Mornin' all. Missed ya yesterday but had quite a day. Better Half unit bought me a Groupon for my B-day back in Sept to drive a Lamborghini Spyder 15 miles through the Golden Gate Canyon a few miles from our home. Yesterday was the day and what a kick. That is one magnificent machine. Now I just need to win the lottery to own one. Gonna try one more leaf mulching today since the Weather Witch is supposed to be turning on us again in the next day or so. Cheers and have a great Sunday everyone.6 points

I was just fishing to get Pancho riled up, didn't realize I might catch Diz! Anyway, I've got Mich St beating Ohio St Saturday. Surely you do too? As far as Alabama's schedule, how many top 20 teams do they need to face? Lets be fair, NOBODY could stop Fournette until LSU played Alabama. Now he's not so hot.4 points

Good "Rain" morning gang Well dam man i was going out to the farms to finish up the shop compressor, but it's raining, like REAL water. Have not seen drops this big since last winter, and that was only 20Min. Should clear up around 10ish, think i'll just wait till tomarrow for the farm. Good chance to R&D the air manifold, could do the Depot for parts also. Coffee time, picked up some Duggans yesterday, time for some Taste :emotion-44:4 points

Full disclosure, I'm listening to Hi-Res FLAC files on Pono, not CDs.4 points

Given your take on the PWK CD's, I think it would be interesting to listen to same on my Aristocrat and another EV setup. Will be listening for more about where to purchase the set. Like some jazz from that era. Stella Artois 6 pack again from 7-11. Last 6 went down too smoothly the other week. Cheers...4 points

The Klipsch Tapes Vol. II The Joe Holland Quartet is marvelous. The percussion, such as cymbals, snares, bongos, kick drum & stand-up bass, is stunning. The dynamics and quick attack are startling. It's amazing to realize that these tapes were recorded in stereo in 1954, when I was 6 and listening to Lady and the Tramp on 78s. PWK was way ahead of the curve. I've still not listened to most of Vol. I, other than the PWK interview.4 points

Sitting here doing home work in the craft room. This is where the Scott 222 and Heresies are, listening to Otis Redding and it sounds so good. I don't listen to this system enough. I just fixed the Thorens as one of the output wires had broken. I all so made some rca cables, as the cheap ones I was using was creating a hum. I don't get how listening to this on this system, makes me feel that life good, but it does.3 points

Good afternoon gang Things are drying out around here from our two hour rain. This is the most rain since April 2015, all ski resorts are open. Drama queen weather hacks were squashed by the events in France. Pretty cool to turn on the news and they say this is what is coming and when, it last this long and its gone. Zero Drama/Lies. R&D air supply for the Barn/Shop, have most of the stuff in stock, so it's been a fruitfull day. Checking my email, all of the sudden i have a offer for another "Mr Crow" Kit/Pieces, had to do it. I figure i can build this one "Static", she can have this new one, and my Mr Crow can come back to the cave where i can once again get on with my original ideas for him. Time for a Libation2 points

Of the 12 rules applicable under the Marquess of Queensberry rules which have fundamentally guided modern boxing the UFC game violates almost all of them. As such, I view UFC as just a small step up from a bar fight.2 points

Thanks, Dave. I think these guys are just local but not certain. If interested, check out oxotic.com. Think their name is Oxotic Supercars or something like that. They have 2 Lambos, a Porche and one or 2 other offerings. You can sign up for longer drives than the one I had, but gets pricey. Oh yeah, no coffee spilled!2 points

What a great experience! Glad you enjoyed it, I'm sure that will bring a smile everytime you look back on it. Hopefully you didn't spill your coffee taking those tight turns! ;-)2 points

I will be sharing a new "non-tech" thread soon with photos of the build progress. Matt has been very good about keeping me involved with this build. He fills me in, with photos and explanation of his progress (in laymans terms for me LOL). Making me feel like I really am a part of this whole thing. Pretty incredible... I, and many others I'm sure, am looking forward to seeing the posts you make as the build progresses. It's always enjoyable to witness the "birth" of a new piece of audio equipment! William stated the case very well and, for the record, I use $2 Deltron binding posts on all of my amps and they "sound" as good as anything out there. Don't forget that all we are looking for is a solid electromechanical connection to the speaker cable. We only need to occasionally verify that the nut is tight if using bare wire or lugs. With banana plugs, removing and reinserting them occasionally is more than sufficient as well. Back in the day, when I was much more seriously involved in this stuff, my colleagues and I did lots of blind listening testing. One experiment was to make up 3 identical length speaker cables using the same wire. We had one set internally soldered directly to the speaker's binding posts (you can't get a better connection than that), another was attached to the binding posts using bare wire, and the third attached to the binding posts with banana plugs. All 3 sets were connected to a switchbox which allowed near instantaneous switching between them (we didn't worry about the amp being unloaded with music playing for a split second). To make a long story short, not one person (including myself) could hear any difference or identify which connection they were listening to. Maynard2 points

Interesting. In reading your post I believe that you may have significantly missed the point of my post as the price of the binding posts; whether the binding posts cost $3, $57, or $600, was NOT the issue that I responded to in conjunction with the posts [# 143 through # 147] that appear to directly, or indirectly, analyze your prior posts and I do not see a reason to feel silly for adding my analysis to posts # 143 through # 147. However, given that you have stated that you were a moderator for the better part of 10 years, I suspect you may already understand the nuances of what is going on here and the nuance of where certain language can be interpreted as "troll-like." If you don’t, I suspect that it may be prudent to read the “New Hardware” thread over in the technical/modifications forum at some point. On a side note, I’m not one to state that a person cannot present their views on any topic, regardless of whether the information presented is driven by anecdotal experience or empirical data. In addition, I do not believe that disagreement is a form of disrespect and welcome diversity and difference of opinion as the process can result in a foundation of great new information; however, I tend to disagree with discussion that can be construed as using condescending language when in disagreement. Given the above and considering the posts in question, I believe that Carl may have said it best in this post that I quoted below; and noting that Carl's post must be one that you have read since you had added a “like.” Oh, and welcome back to the forum after your 10 year hiatus.2 points

Sore winners, as always. Good morning . Caffeine courtesy of Mr. Coffee and Folgers. Too lazy to use the more complicated system received as a gift from older son. It's a sunny seasonably cool day in Southeast Michigan. I'll spend some of it organizing music files on my computer and Pono player. Klipsch Tapes Vol. I resists being displayed as an "album" rather than individual tracks. KT Vol. II, The Joe Holland Quartet, is excellent as a FLAC file. I'm sure it's also excellent as a CD or any of the available formats. PWK's choice of music and recording procedure were fantastic. Bama has still got to get by Charleston Southern next week. Fortunately for the Tide, they aren't playing the much peskier Charleston Northern School of Cosmetology.2 points

Mirrorless is NOT the answer. There are always compromises. Mirrorless cameras take a lot of battery power to keep the electronics up and feeding images to the screens. Those images are also delayed and the cameras take longer to autofocus than DSLRs. Watch any college or pro football this weekend? They are all up and down the sidelines with those good ole DSLRs. Those guys are the best and use the best. Like I said, there are always compromises and that is as true as ever with camera technologies.2 points

I've just begun to listen to the Klipsch Tapes. The recordings I've listened to so far are excellent when listened to through my modified Klipsch S4 IEMs on my Pono in balanced mode. Perhaps later this weekend I'll get a chance to hook the Pono up to my new TSA3118 amp to see how the recordings sound from speakers and proper subs. The interview of PWK is very enjoyable.2 points

Afternoon all..... So far all I have done today is drink my two cups of coffee..... The wife and I just sitting on the couch watching a movie.....Stone Hearst Asylum..... We just finnished a movie that we started last night.... Circle.... ahhhh was ok..... Was a ok week...kinda slow at the shop.....but we did make enough for payroll....I like getting payed...lol lol We have a customer that dropped off his old 1991 Honda CRX "hf"..... his car has 369K miles on it...and it still gets close to 48 mpg. These cars were built for fuel economy.... Years ago I owned a 87 CRX hf and that car got 45+ mpg...it was a carburated car. I sold it one of my mechanic buddies at the dealership and he was getting almost 50 mpg highway...those old cars were incredible.... Not to much planned.....will proberly do some house clean-up.... might suck-up some leaves tomorrow, got a whole yard full now. Chuck...I got new gutters years ago when we got a new roof. We got the gutters that have caps on them. So far so good with em....they have been on for about 10 years now. I still get on the roof a blow off the leaves and crapp. We have some 37 oak trees on our lot and it's only 1/2 acre and then there's the neighbous trees.... I was on the roof last week blowing off the leaves....I tooks some pic's of the yard, I'll post them for ya.... Not much else going on......wishing all a great weekend.... MKP :-)2 points

Good morning/afternoon my friends.............again, thanks for the photo compliments... Today is putting up some Christmas deco on the front pines and shrubs while the weather is good.. DIZ, please let us know what you think of those very 'old' recordings, they sound fresh! I also of the other on DVD-A (yes, they were pricey, but I feel worth every penny). The first one is a great sampler. The other VERY IMPORTANT thing with the first one is, one of the finest recording engineers who was very young that year, and PK took him under his wing, and so this early work is heard on that first sampler... His name?, John Eargle ! He passed away a few years back. Best known for his books on recording/engineering and pipeorgan recordings (since he was the organist I believe as well) orchestral recordings too, and believed in minimal miking, as do I.... He was also famous for his work with Delos records. Enjoy2 points

Morning gang working on the third cup, breakfast burrito down. It has been a nice relaxing morning with coffee and reading about Mr. Pass's creations over at Firstwatt. Wife just informed me she was thinking of going out and getting her hair cut. Normally I don't mind, however she mentioned one of the higher scale salon $$$$ . Chuck I maid something of the sort last night for dinner as well. Roasted turkey breast with brown rice in chicken broth and spinach. Very simple to make and low on sugar, the kids liked it, so that is a win. As for today, I have to finish a paper for my English Comp 2 class. Around 2 we are heading to a baby welcoming party with roasted pig. After that its a low key bachelor party. Neil, Hopefully we get good football, regardless of bad officiating.2 points

........ok, I just had to share my next play..... A high res. DVD-A and recorded by our beloved PWK back in 1955-57... He knew way back then that multi channel miking wasn't good enough to capture a live performance... I am totally in his camp here ;0) Stereo as well, and a number of years before offered to the masses.......a remarkable recording!!2 points

What's happening in France is tragic. What is amazing is that in the U.S there have been upward of 200 mass shootings this year, it has become so commonplace that as a nation, we are no longer fazed by it. It happens one day and a week later it is all but forgotten by everyone except those directly affected by it Steve (and I am addressing you directly) I NEVER told you how you should think. That WOULD be control. I said that people should think before they speak, THAT would be considerate of others.2 points
-
Since the other thread got locked I want to make my thoughts made very clearly here: I'm so saddened for what France is going through right now. There is no cause, no belief, nor frailty of the human soul that can justify what they have been subjected to. What happened in France is an affront to the very essence of what it means to be a human being. Thoughts, prayers, and love to all of the families affected by this, and my support to the people of France in whatever they feel is the appropriate course of action to protect their great nation so that they can begin the long healing process.2 points

The home stretch; crossovers complete, horns, motors, and spiders insulated. Mahogany stain applied today, new grill cloth and topcoat next weekend. Debating between lacquer and water borne urethane. And by the way, they sound AWESOME! Decided to leave ports on the rear, bass response is super, slightly reducing the cabinet volume had no negative effects. In reality the cabinet is huge so there is more than enough breathing room in there. Attached a couple pics of Norm Cerveny completing the final touches, this guy is amazing as well as some before and after shots.1 point
