  1. Happy Friday everyone. Picked up this all in one Philips music center for my office. It has a built in CD player, FM tuner and hard drive for music. It uses flat panel speakers with two built in subs. It won't replace a big system but it does very well filling my office with rich sound. I also like having a full function remote so I can control the system from my desk.

  2. The rack of SAE gear is sitting in the sun room at my house. The pre started turning off by itself, so it needs some bench time. Not sure what I'll do with the system. I don't need it, I'm not using it and it's taking up room. It may be time to move it along to the next care taker.

  12. Happy Friday Y'all Not a thing Happening here, tested the boys Xmas present out this AM and it survived the shipping Pulled the switch head off the ringer washer I am somewhat restoring for camper use, totally gummed up with 67 year old grease. Soaking in a couple gallons of diesel as I type Hoping that will soften up the grease without peeling the original paint off, slap some new grease on the gears and get the wheels turning Later

  15. That's what I tell my wife - the "weatherman" must go to acting school to make even the most mundane forecast sound like the world coming to an end. Can't hardly stand to watch any of them although the station managers must know this as they have started putting some lookers/bodies on to attract/keep more of an audience. Put all the news people in a bag and shake it up, they all fall out the same. News readers is all they are, few true journalists. And I love the term "anchor". What do you do for a living "we'll I'm a news anchor". Like all anchors, throw 'em overboard.

  24. Your like a mad scientist at work, as long as your using your powers for good were safe. This is a hobby, when i was 10 dad woud drop me at a surplus store of my choice, money was never a problem, what i wanted was always a problem. Hobbys take a back seat to getting through working life, this i have done, now the hobby rules again. Had no internet as a kid, now i have it made. Hobby is at least paying for itself, cant say that about speakers!

  35. Two channel, stereo vs. multi-channel or home theater. You have center channel speakers at your disposal, and the fronts, and the rears for that matter, so I thought you may want to try that. If not, at least you have more value in each of those center speakers than you spent on the whole shebang. Quite a windfall, you're one of the lucky ones. As to what to choose, you'll probably be limited to used gear, of the two channel variety, or a mid to high tier AVR (even for stereo use). You shouldn't have to spend much to get busy with the music. Peruse your local craigslist and let us know what's available. Academy centers are in demand here, so you may get lucky with a forum member who wants to swap an old receiver they have lying around for it (start a thread in the garage sale forum).

  40. All this is to say: the term "x-curve" is not appropriate for HT...and roll-offs of HF in HT-sized rooms has probably got a lot more to do with badly mastered music and perhaps even too-hot movie soundtrack than it does in terms of psychoacoustics, as Toole and Eargle have pointed out. The BBC curve is another issue that I'll leave alone here, other to say that it was tied to a "boo-boo" in a certain BBC monitor design in terms of polar control and vertical separation of the midrange vs. tweeter. 42. Good "late" morning once again Wife served up a great Bacon/Bagle/Egg spread, her Ks are cranked. Me, im playin with "The Chip" and like iv said, the quality of this chip blows me away. That being said as you can see in the lower left corner of this chip is the condenser Mic, the way you input sound. What iv now found by messin around is, the chip is "Quality" the condenser Mic is $0.3 cents. And there is my new challange, (re-work-re-introduce a better signal) I love nothing better than a good bench problem(s) No fear in playing around with these things because at the price per unit, i always buy two/three. So if/when i fry it, no big deal......Fun.

  43. I have a manual screen and pull it down over the TV when I want some big screen action. I hung it from the ceiling so it would clear the TV... Wall mounting was a bit close. I would rather get an electric and a 4k projector, but this was my "cheap" step 1 and it sounds like what you are doing. IMO, with your room being dark you don't have to worry about high dollar screens or getting a light cannon. That screen Scrappy listed is probably fine. The projector is easily decided by what you want to spend. $800.00 BenQ 1070 is probably the best sub 1k HT projector. The Panny 8000 for $1,700.00 and then you jump up in price to the Epson, Sony, and JVC...$2,000.00 and beyond. My biggest problem was running the cables. I bought the Sony that has the IR 3d so I had to run HDMI, Power and an Cat 5/6 cable for the IR extender. I split my signal also and send it to another TV in the back of the room, but the splitter has to be taken off when I watch 3d. Order your cables and projector mount beforehand...running to Best Buy and other Brick and Mortor stores can end up costing you a bunch. Just shooting you a couple of my own lessons learned and suggestions.

  44. Last night, I saw Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band. It was a great show. The keyboard player was Greg Rollie from Santana, one guitarist was Steve Lukather (5-time Grammy winner) from Toto and the other guitarist was Todd Rundgren. Richard Page, the singer from Mr. Mister played bass, the percussion/sax player was Warren Ham, of Bloodrock and Kansas, and the second drummer was Greg Bissonette. At first, I wondered why a second drummer was needed, but it was because Ringo was down in front at centre stage singing about half the time. The band did some of Ringo's old Beatles songs, along with some of his new ones, and each band member did a few of the songs he was famous for. Steve Lukather accompanied Greg Rollie on Evil Ways, Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen and Oye como va, and he sounded as good as Carlos Santana. All the players were good, but Steve impressed me the most. Unlike the rock concerts from many years ago that started 45 minutes late, this started just after its scheduled time of 8 pm and finished at 10 pm. I guess the old guys on stage and in the audience don't have time to mess around anymore. Yes, many in the audience had totally white hair. It made me feel a bit young. I remembered seeing lots of older folks the last time I saw Pink Floyd, then I realized that was back in 1994, and we've all aged since then.
