  5. Good morning friends ! Looks like MPK has things WELL covered in the audio dept. for the gathering. I wouldn't look forward to hauling it around so much Speaking of hauling, my SUV is full of my keyboard rig, as we had our first show of the season last night, a real blast. I was home before 10:30pm. and had a few glasses of vino to unwind and then head to the rack.. Up to start the coffee and be about the day here...............tonight, it will be relaxing with new music, both Vinyl and a CD to open and listen with friends over in RTM. Got a bottle of Indian vino to drink as well.. I need a little down time after more outdoor chores to tend to today. Enjoy your day everyone......more later for sure

  6. I had to look up a portion of these to make sure I got the band right for the time period (many songs have remake versions after those on my list) and verify they fall between 64 and 67; however, I remember listening to them from the radio, Mom's records, Dad's records, television, commercials, movies, etc. The following songs in the first group had always given me the impression of having somewhat of a 1950's "style" of "rock n roll" music and an "American Bandstand / Dick Clark" type of dancing. Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels: Devil With A Blue Dress On and Good Golly Miss Molly Lovin' Spoonful: Do You Believe In Magic Searchers: Love Potion Number Nine ? and The Mysterians: 96 Tears Sam The Sham and The Pharaohs: Wooly Bully Beach Boys: Help Me, Rhonda Tom Jones: It's Not Unusual Four Tops: I Can't Help Myself Sugar Pie Honey Bunch Supremes: Stop! In The Name Of Love Gerry and The Pacemakers: Ferry Cross The Mersey Beach Boys: California Girls Petula Clark: Downtown James Brown and The Famous Flames: Papa's Got A Brand New Bag Lovin' Spoonful: Summer In The City Nancy Sinatra: These Boots Are Made For Walkin' Beach Boys: Barbara Ann Manfred Mann: Do Wah Diddy Diddy Martha and The Vandellas: Dancing In The Street Drifters: Under The Boardwalk Surfaris: Wipe Out Aretha Franklin: Respect Sam and Dave: Soul Man Association: Windy Easy Beats: Friday On My Mind Spencer Davis Group: Gimme Some Lovin' Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell: Ain't No Mountain High Enough Peter, Paul and Mary: I Dig Rock And Roll Music Jackie Wilson: Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher And Higher Roy Orbison: Oh, Pretty Woman Beach Boys: I Get Around Kingsmen: Louie Louie Louis Armstrong: Hello, Dolly! Shangri-Las: Leader Of The Pack Reflections: (Just Like) Romeo And Juliet Roger Williams: Born Free This group is representative of the type of "rock n roll" records that I had bought back in the day. Buffalo Springfield: For What It's Worth Bobby Gentry: Ode To Billie Joe Doors: Light My Fire Rolling Stones: I Can't Get No Satisfaction Byrds: Mr. Tambourine Man Troggs: Wild Thing Bob Dylan: Like A Rolling Stone Yardbirds For Your Love Animals: We Gotta Get Out Of This Place Standells: Dirty Water Box Tops: The Letter Jefferson Airplane: Somebody To Love Who: I Can See For Miles Kinks: You Really Got Me Animals: The House Of The Rising Sun Rolling Stones: Ruby Tuesday Turtles: Happy Together Mama's and The Papa's: Monday, Monday Simon and Garfunkel: The Sounds Of Silence Simon and Garfunkel: Homeward Bound This group that follows are my examples of songs for "slow dances" with either the "partner" you brought or maybe the "partner" you want to take home. Neil Diamond: Cherry, Cherry Dusty Springfield: You Don't Have To Say You Love Me Brenda Lee: Coming On Strong Frankie Valli: Can't Take My Eyes Off You Neil Diamond: Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon Dusty Springfield: Wishin' And Hopin' Sonny and Cher: I Got You Babe Marvin Gaye: How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) Procol Harum: A Whiter Shade Of Pale Temptations: My Girl Righteous Brothers: (You're My) Soul And Inspiration Frank Sinatra: Strangers In The Night Percy Sledge When A Man Loves A Woman Lou Rawls: Love Is A Hurtin' Thing Ray Conniff and The Singers: Somewhere My Love Four Tops: Reach Out I'll Be There Righteous Brothers: You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' Finally, the last group contains a selection of the obligatory Monkees and Beatles songs. Monkees: Last Train To Clarksville Monkees: I'm A Believer Beatles: Help! Beatles: Ticket To Ride Beatles: Eight Days A Week Beatles: We Can Work It Out Beatles: Paperback Writer Beatles: Yellow Submarine Beatles: A Hard Day's Night Beatles: Twist And Shout .

  9. Should I alert the authorities? While retrieving a newspaper from the mouth of our driveway, I saw the attached in the street. It seems to be in some sort of code. It's possibly an indication of an impending invasion. In any case, enjoy a safe weekend. Alien message.pdf

  10. Rule number one; go to Hope Rule number two: make sure Carl is going to Hope Rule number three: make sure Carl shakes it 100 times, not 99 and not 101, 100, it's critical, just ask him. Golden rule: make sure it's the first martini that you've ever had and I promise you it will be the best! Seriously, I had never had a martini in my life, vodka yes, martini no, and in my ignorance, I thought they were the same thing, until the master educated me and many others, as I recall. I told Carl that I would try one, and after he was finished, there wasn't much for me to say with the exception of, "I don't really taste anything at all" but to my surprise, after I was then given a taste of the vodka that was used straight up I was pretty amazed that he had taken something, that really didn't taste that great at all on it's own, and made it as clean as a glass of ice cold spring water. Kinda weird and Carl might be a witch or something, but worked for me and one of these clear concoctions seemed to supply quite a buzz to those who participated. Anyone who makes claims that "they" are the best Martini maker, well, all I can say is quit talking and prove it at the next event and until then may I formally introduce, Carl, the Martini King!

  15. Watched "The Finest Hours" on Friday night about a Coast Guard rescue off the coast of Massachusetts in 1952. Great story. Movie was a bit too dramatic at times. 2.5/4 stars. Watched "13 Hours" last night. I wasn't aware of all the bureaucratic BS and poor decisions leading up to that night that four guys paid for with their lives. My son thought it was on-par or better than American Sniper. I would put it just a notch below. 3.5/4 stars.

  19. While the weekend has just started, and I've only begun to burn in the new Xovers, the old ones have already lost in the matchup against the new Crites ones. To clear things up, I did a double blind A/B test in my listening space, then had a couple others do the same. The results were flat out obvious. The result is that I now have an extra pair of stock RF-3 crossovers that I don't have a use for. I don't really know how pricing on these goes, but I'm making a stab at $100 $80 shipped. I'll hear offers too if anyone has one.

  20. Right now I'm pretty much stuck with a smaller bedroom system and probably will be for about another year and a half so I've been experimenting with various smaller speakers that will fit my space. I've went from Klipsch RB-81 II's to the RB-75's to the Sunfire CRS-3 Ribbon speakers to my current set up of a pair of KV-4's. All of these speakers have worked very well for TV and movies, absolutely no complaints there at all but when it comes to music each one has had it deficiencies, maybe I've just been forever spoiled by my Chorus II's? Anyway, just sealed a very sweet deal on a pair of these P-17's and can't wait for them to arrive next week!

  23. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that there's anything wrong with a Speakerlab K. I actually own a pair of homebrew khorn clones, they get daily play time and are not for sale. There's a certain kind of CL ad, describing any moldy old homebrew speaker that happens to have a triangular cross-section as a "Klipschorn". If these are Speakerlabs built under license from Klipsch, this ad would be the mildest example of the form.

  26. I'll tell you I love the look and idea of the salamander designs. Saw them in person. Absolute junk. They buzz and rattle of you have REAL subwoofers. And I see your planning on buying a couple. If price were no object, no questions about it I would get the standout design. 100% hardwood and made in the us. As another vet I appreciate that kind of thing. As for Svs subs, i used to own a pair and have moved on from them. They are not the cream of the crop anymore. Their is Better subs out there for sure. Everyone on this forum made the pb-13 ultra sound like it was the best sub on the planet. So I bought two. Then moved back to the Midwest and started hanging out with Avs guys. Heard ones like the seaton submersive, JTR S2, JTR orbit shifter. Every single one of those will put a spanking on the Svs. Period.

  27. Ok, we've have the magic shake ratio. Now what about the ice - vodka/gin ratio? I imagine that is critical to the finished product?? Inquiring, thirsty minds need to know, dontcha' know.

  28. I just wanted to say a big "Thank you" to everyone that was free in sharing their alcohol with me! Just like different perceptions in or Audio hobby, I got to enjoy a few Gems that others liked that pleased my pallet, that I never had tried before First, to Carl, my first ever Martini. I believe that Carl made me a total of 5 over the event, but the two I had the first night back to back, coupled with the wild turkey American Honey really had me snookered for awhile Thank you Ron, for sharing your top shelf whiskey with me Thank you Dave / Seadog, for the great beer you shared with me! And Thank you Travis, for freely sharing your Gallon of local spirits freely with myself and just about everyone else! Finally, it wasn't liquor, but a big Thank you to Luther, for bringing 70 pounds of great smoked sausage clear from Smity's in Texas for everyone to enjoy! Thank you all for making this such a great time for myself, and everyone... Roger

  31. Fine choice K2 is great for sub duty I'm a Crown fan for running my pro audio speakers and if you have a problem you can't beat Crowns repair department its a flat $213 charge to fix a problem and a max of $363 if the amp needs new boards etc. however I have only had one issue with a Crown amp in the past they are very reliable.

  33. Yep Memorial Day with the touristas coming to the beach only to be greeted by tropical storm Bonnie LF bought an 10x14 oriental rug and we went Thursday to pick it up. While she was paying I rolled it up and because there was a low hanging chandelier I lifted the rug a little off balance and there went the hamstring Some better today but far from normal. I guess Jake gets a reprieve from his bath. At LF's new place the roof replacement is complete, LP gas tank installed, electrical boxes installed in the soon to be new kitchen, garage painted and epoxy floor finished, old kitchen cabinets and granite installed in garage. Next for master bath demo Congrats Dave on the weight loss! Have a great weekend and holiday ladies and gents.

  47. Only thing I have to add is that it appears that you have ten seats and others are saying spend a ton on a single sub, which I don't agree with. I'd be looking at multiple DIY 18's or at least make sure you get two factory subs. Personally I'd say just start out with four 18's. You're going to end up there anyway and its cheaper than a single good factory sub.
