  5. Good evening everyone...............back from a multi 70ies highschool reunion my sister invited me to........ Now relaxing with a freshly opened bottle of Shiraz vino, listening to the latest Boston LP. I bought the limited edition double set in RED vinyl............ Tom mixed this one on ALL the original analog equipment the FIRST album release was made on! Here is a photo of side two on the Rega.. dTel, I went for my inspection this morning, the owner who told me about the dry rot on the original tires last year was there again. I told him I just came from my dealer having done what HE told me to do previously... He said "Great, new skins...........ok" Then had me simply test lights and horn etc. all good, so I am set for the season. Also was able to complete and send out the minutes from our motorcycle rider's club meeting earlier this month. (yeah, I'm the secretary!!) Anyway, here is side two of Boston's "Life, Love and Hope' album...

  7. Mookie, you are to be congratulated. Had I gotten married at 23 it would have been a huge mistake. Somehow when my father got married in 1947 at the age of 23 he was more mature than I was at the same age. I guess getting yanked from school to serve in France and the Philippines makes one grow up fast.

  8. Afternoon all.... Congrats to all on the anniversary's...... man, 34-35 years is fantastic and dtel coming up on 38..... really cool stuff..... Looks like The BOSS and I are about 10+ years behind most of you guys.... The BOSS and I will be at 25 years in October...... and for the last 18 years we have been working together at the shop Yea the A/C thing..... we have all window units..... about three years ago the A/C system took a dump.... Every year I would have to fill it. My landlord from the shop sold me a 30lb container of 22R several years ago.... that worked good for awhile.... but then the compressor took a dump.... It's a old system..... almost 20 years old.... The window units work good, and being we are the only ones in the house now we have a big unit in the main living area and one in our bedroom... A good afternoon to all.... MKP :-)

  9. Good to hear about so many marriages that made it. Between working and raising 4 kids, it seems like a blur. Diz, despite already "knowing everything" I was just a pup in '82 as I got married shortly before my 24th birthday. I still managed to learn a few things.

  11. We just returned from ldv. It was very nice. The card, flowers, coffee and Cuisinart burr mill were a hit. I deliberately made only 2 cups of the pedestrian Folgers until the gift of 8 O'Clock Colombian whole bean was presented. She then pointed out that the coffee was whole bean and we have no grinder. I feigned surprise, scratched my head and then had a staged eureka moment before reaching behind a chair to get the grinder. The first batch was a tad weak. It will take some time to get the hang of the quantity of whole beans and the grind setting to brew the correct quantity of strong, but smooth coffee. I was 33 in 1982 when we tied the knot. Nancy's birthday is tomorrow, 7/18. I kid her that we avoided the dreaded spinster tax by only a day. The point of this is that we were not kids when we wed 34 years ago today.

  13. I've been eyeing a new avr for months. I knew I wanted a Pioneers Elite but, wasn't sure which one. Just went looking last night to see if BB had the SC 95 or 91. They had one 91 but, no preouts and what to do with the 5 channel Acurus amp. BB had slim pickings, the only other was two Elite 99's. I brought the flagship SC 99 home after careful questions on the return policy. It's a big sucker like the SC 35. What features lead to the purchase? Sub EQ, Full band phase control, Atmos and a few others. It was late so I just sat it in the HT last night. This morning I did a quick setup. Setup can be confusing due to the Atmos and the numerous configurations. You can read the 151 page manual, lol. Luckily I was familiar with most of the setup since it is similar to the SC 35. Then came autocalibration with MCACC Pro. This went a bit faster than MCACC. The sub setup consisted of full bandwidth phase control, PEQ/DSP, and standing wave control. MCACC did a great job calibrating the system and is definitely several steps above MCACC. It appears to EQ the subs below 20 Hz to my surprise. It also EQ the left and right side separately in the .2 option is chose. Music: Norha Jone just came alive and the sound was projected to the MLP with authority 20 ft. away. The full band phase control gives great imaging and separation and perfect bass, tight and clean. Nick Colionne, Celine Dion finished the music session off just as nice. Movies: Transformers Age of Extinction was even more dynamic than before. Increase TR with a lower sub trim. Dialogue clear and sharp. No harshness to the sound. I almost lost a lamp and two table top pieces. The picture quality was excellent just like the SC 35. War of The Worlds and the second Tron where very immersive also. If any one is looking for a good HT and music avr, the Pioneer's avr with MCACC Pro are no joke, they are better than good at getting great sound! I am sure I will be learning new things over the next few month after I get the Atmos speakers setup 9.2.2, wires ran, the fun stuff.

  21. The way I hear the recording, it's her. She doesn't sound very well trained, probably self-taught. Her guitar playing is weak very tentative, there is no confidence in the playing. One reason you can't make out her words is she doesn't fill out her lungs with air so she is not articulating she is slurring in sort of a breathy way. She is also running out of air at the end of every phrase so just as you say, you can't make out the words. I also agree she has a pleasant tone to her voice and with some training and practice who knows what her next level is? Her consonants are soft and she is not singing all of the letters in all the words. "Sun-shine" is being sung "suh-sigh." Too much "artsy sing-song" and not enough substance for my tastes. Agree about the looping pedal. It's a computer gimmick where a phrase is recorded in real time then played back and she sings along with herself. Here's what I mean. See if this guy(s) makes you Happy. It does me.

  24. MARKETING. Why did they replace the time tested zipcord with Monster cable? MARKETING, not because it was a needed "improvement." Similarly, why did Klipsch build speakers with bi-wire capability? Again, MARKETING trumped science. Bi-wiring is total yellow button, but the same customers who welcomed Monster Cable also welcomed bi-wire. Such superfluous BS did not put off the knowledgeable customers, so why not throw the marketing people some bones? Great examples and I'll buy that. tc

  25. Take a bare K400, hang it from a string, tap it with a metal object and it will ring like a bell. However, properly mount it in your La Scalas -- secured at both ends and tap it again with a metal object and you will just hear a thud. As long as you're not tapping the horn while you are playing music, you won't hear any noises you don't want to hear.

  37. If you heard her live you would probably think she is pretty good. By the time someone does something on a video (major artist or production), there is a lot of processing that gets done to make it understandable.
