  4. OK Minermark, I did what you asked, I was checking Rodney's front porch and (I think) it was Friday a package showed up. There were more people than just Klipsch people at the pilgrimage, some were from Cory's Klipsch facebook page, and others were Klipsch dealers and distributors from around the country. I would go out to the car and load up my pockets and walk around giving them out to make sure the Klipsch group got them first. Mark had 100 of these voltmeter things shipped to Rodney's to give to every forum member. I didn't take a picture of one yet but "borrowed" a pic from online. I went to everyone, (I'm pretty sure) and gave them one and told them......do you know Minermark on the forum ? Most would say yes, so I told them he sent 100 of these voltmeters and asked me to give them out to all Klipsch forum people, and I told them he couldn't make it here even after being registered because something came up, and he wanted you to know he was thinking of everyone and wished he could have been here. Everyone was surprised and said wow that's cool, or that was very nice of him or something similar, most people looked shocked. I even gave one to each of the bosses from the Klipsch office in Indy that were there at the time, most were in charge of marketing, like Matt Sommers, Jill Escoll, Mark Casavant and Kayla. It blew them away that someone would do something like this. I am sorry I know I spelled those names wrong, probably all of them. They were very surprised as everyone else was that someone would do something like that. It was a very nice thing to do, so I will do as everyone asked,..... Thank You Mark that was very nice of you to do that. I have to say I tried one and it's a cool little thing, I plugged one in and would turn on and off other things on the same circuit and the meter would change voltages for a second as things were added to the line, it's instant. It would change by only a volt or two for just a second, they all seem to be 118v mostly, sometimes 117v to 119v changing. it's kind of addicting to plug it in in different places to see what it says. Like everyone said, Thank You, it was very nice of you to do something like that !

  6. Man, if I were closer, I'd buy these in an instant. But a 2k mile road trip is not gonna happen. I'd just sell off all of my parts for these. Anyone down that way that's coming to central Arkansas? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-KLIPSCH-BELLE-speakers-Minty-/122473969447?

  8. I've used this name since I lived in Texas and was a Manufacturer's Rep back in 2003. I moved from there back to Arkansas in Jan 2010 (to go back to college at 43) and I've just kept the name. If I changed it, I guess it could be avguyar but, since I'm not in audio/video anymore (thankfully), maybe I need to go to something like ITguyAR or NetAdminGuyAR.

  13. I have a feeling this guy would be very happy with the sound from a 1960s jukebox. He sounds like an idiot, and probably is an idiot. Whenever a person compares one speaker with another, you have to consider that person's listening experience and qualifications. This guy does not appear to have the necessary bona fides for me to pay much attention to him. He says the Khorn isn't good because it only goes down to 33 Hz. At 33 Hz the Khorn can output a higher SPL with lower distortion than any commercially available home speaker, with a 100 watt amplifier. My guess is that he likes distorted bass because he compares speaker to speaker, not speaker to the original sound.

  16. He sounds like I did when I was 14 yrs old, looking at specs and using them for my evaluation vs. listening. Just keeps going back to the frequency response so they must be bad. To some points, Heresy is a small speaker so won't have bass. Yes that is designed though size doesn't necessarily force a 54hz cut off. My Frazier Mark Va's in the 70's would go quite deep and were not much bigger volume wise to the Heresy. Using a Heresy does require some support of fundamentals from a sub or other woofered box if you want to hear size and breadth of a venue. He really looses credibility by complaining only on speaker response when you can complain about the Heresy in a lot of other ways (depending on version) that would make his argument much more credible. Then again, I haven't heard a speaker you couldn't complain about in one way or another. When I build my speakers, there are inherent compromises that have to be made so just buy something you can live with all the warts on. They will definitely have some.

  22. Just brainstorming here. Invest in a simple high-quality integrated amp and then get an external streaming device like an Airport Express feeding an external DAC to add the convenience of wifi. Although it looks like most of the sub-$1K integrated amps include a built-in DAC and optional blue-tooth, so you might as well use it to start. wifi streaming has better quality although the newest blue-tooth apt-x is pretty decent. If you use iTunes, I would get a Yamaha A-S701, Airport Express, and an optical toslink cable and call it a day. You can stream Pandora over Airplay. Add an external DAC down the road.

  23. To be fair though, he trash talked the Khorn and inherently the entirety of the heritage line up. Actually, he just generally balked at Klipsch on the whole. I get that some people don't like them, but this guy was just a bag full of doody.

  26. The Heresy is a small speaker that simply needs a sub to support the low end just like most small speakers. As far as the Hi frequency cutoff, you are really not missing much since most of the populations hearing is not that acute above 17 k Hz. It is not a bad speaker and people who want a Heresy, just need to be a where of the speakers limitations which applies to all other speakers for the most part. If there was a perfect speakers, there would only be one produced! Application should always be considered when purchasing a speaker.

  28. No, I get some of what he is saying. Except lacking the lower 2 octaves and upper 1/2 octave is not half the musical frequency range. The Heresy is not a full range floorstander nor a bookshelf speaker it has a niche of it's own. A subwoofer can fill in the lower octaves and most(older adults) can't even hear the upper half octave. I love me some Heresys and no goofball on YouTube can tell me otherwise. Bill

  29. These are my new ones. My room is so dark due to being solid flat black that I can never take decent pics but surely you get the idea. Coming home in the U-Haul. Just for size comparison. The dinky thing on the left is 1/4 of an 800 pound quad 18 setup. RP-260F to the right, then Heresy. It's slightly humorous I suppose. Temporarily set up, probably not their permanent home, room will probably be flipped 180 degrees.

  32. Just got back in town from the pilgrimage, need to get caught up on this conversation. I knew there was supposedly some hissing in the Xilica unit but this is the first I've heard of there being weak midbass. Anyway, been listening to and/or playing with jubes for the past few days, and yeah the midbass was far from weak, even in the middle of a pole barn. I brought two home with me, these were Roy's personal ones which I'm honored to have, they are the very first pair of the current build style. Jubes were used on Friday night for the Q and A from Paul Jacobs as well as some music playing. The new 1502 sub was introduced in between them, it's basically a smaller version of the 1802, otherwise same concept. This one single 15 and two jubes were about the punchiest midbass I have ever heard. Drums like big floor toms were insane on the better recordings. Mark Casavant the VP played something, seems like it was Rush, he told me and of course I forgot, but it was nuts, the attack was just second to none. Will upload pics soon, I can't figure out how to share to PhotoBucket on my new phone.

  35. This may just be me but, to often, I hear things like this speaker is better than that speaker or, this speaker kills that one. This type of info tells you nothing, did I say nothing. Newbies are always asking for speaker selection help. They will get the, this will kill that? What should we be telling them? First, a speaker is a transducer that converts an electrical signal to an acoustic one. This is no different than the job done by the CD player, BDP, amp or turn table. That is not the whole story, how do we judge a speaker. You need several pieces of info, room size, application and will it meet it's objective of accuracy and clarity. Room size is a big factor. To many blanket answers of buy the biggest you can get or afford. If the speaker is to big for the room, namely the bass production of the speaker, it will create modal issues. These problems can be difficult to overcome in a small 2 ch room or HT. If the speaker is to small, poor bass attack and the thing sounds like it does not have enough gas. How much low frequency energy can the room handle? Getting a speaker to large for the space will take a lot of EQ and room treatments that would not have been necessary. No reason to make problems that can be avoided. A speaker to tall will cause more reflections off the ceiling. This will cause delay issues. This also causes SBIE, speaker boundary interference effects. This show up as comb filtering and create a phantom image. Sometime you will hear a sound where it should not be or blurring of the image. For those with low ceilings, speaker height should not be greater than 50% of room height. Now, how to evaluate the speaker in the room. Look for accuracy and clarity. Judge how the speaker presentation is, things sound balance from top to bottom, wide sound stage, tonal balance, strong bass, clear vocals and a sparkling treble region should be heard. Do cymbals and triangles have air, slowly decay are signs of good treble. How is the off axis performance? Without some of this type of info, it is hard to say will one speaker be better in a given room.

  36. In honor of @CECAA850 and inspired by @jimjimbo, if you were to change your Forum name, what would it be, and explain your thinking. I would go with OutOfPhase. I think it's how I feel half the time.

  37. It would sound fine for the most part, as long as you only sit in one position. At the minimum maybe try to rotate the horn 90 degrees. What you're going to run in to is off-axis response. You can potentially also take it apart and build a custom enclosure as mentioned above as well. The midbass out of such a thing is so ridiculously nice that you'll love it. And the off-axis lobing / comb filtering issues on upper midrange is so bad that you'll hate it if you know what to listen for. The WTW design sounds a little different in itself, but the biggest issue is that those woofers are so big, so spread out, and crossed over so high, that lobing is unavoidable and is quite simply a really bad design for a center channel. The RC-64ii sounds better in this regard because the horn is smaller, woofers are smaller (everything is closer together), and the inner vs. outer woofers are crossed over at different frequencies. All that thoughtful design gets thrown out the window with a custom center made out of RF-7ii parts. Midbass rules tho. Here is one I built. I just threw the horn on top but there's supposed to be a cutout the size of the actual horn then a backing plate for it to mount to, then the horn lens goes over it. It's more complicated than the old original RF-7 which just dropped in but had exposed screw holes.

  38. Haven't had much time to catch up reading here, but will soon I hope. I first posted pictures here because everyone who could not make wants pictures, I would think there will be more pics. Then I need to make a post to Mark telling him what happened with the voltmeters, well I actually slept for like 10 hours first and made some real coffee...... Shockingly I only had 4 cups of coffee the whole week, Roy gave me two, I made one cup in Kevins bus and a very nice lady seen me wandering around looking really rough, rougher than normal and went and made me a big cup of coffee, after that I had a new name for her, it was the coffee angel.

  39. I agree with the above. If it really takes 5 people a full year to build two pair of cabinets, the company will quickly go broke. I also agree the horn is probably a JBL 2360. If it is, that is not JBL's best effort. edit: taking another look, it might be an Altec. The JBL had an "extra" section on the throat that the driver bolted to. I can not see it in this picture As far as the veneer goes, yes it is a pretty veneer and finish. However, given the cost it does not seem that attractive and your wife is sure to hate it. You will end up having an expensive veneer item "sentenced" to live down in the basement

  41. I saw that myself..but like I posted earlier... not so much of the simple mind in a video.. to little information is dangerous in any situation.. I have someone ranting and raving about their speaker was the best... based on a consumer reports/union. Oct 1978.. and he further told me it was done sciencetifically.. He told me the heresy where at number 15... I don't know what full list of speakers tested.. but like posted earlier the heresy is not a full range speaker.. so the testing is lop sided all ready. but the test was for large speakers.. nor do I know the test equipment used.. so I gave him nos valves testing gear info.. told I have your science right here! but sent him the full page. thanks Craig !!!! and like Pkw claimed crap in crap out !! Klipsch LaScala fully Horn Loaded 104dB efficient speakers These speakers are extremely revealing, exposing flaws in equipment upstream. Hard to locate Hums or buzzes, easily missed on a scope or less revealing speaker, suddenly become very evident via the 104dB three-way horn Klipsch LaScala. These speakers are highly underrated and surpass many audiophile offerings. They are a tremendous asset in reaching the full capabilities of these low watt vintage tube amplifiers, not to mention any of the fine tube offerings. The LaScala is currently our reference speaker at NOSValves.
