Went to the Custer's Last Stand/Battle of Little Bighorn National Monument yesterday. Cool history. Off to Mt. Rushmore today. I hope somebody I know wins the Powerball, just the scraps from their table would probably do me3 points

Welcome to the forums. I was going to suggest adding a powered amp (200 x 2 or 200 x 3) for your front speakers but unfortunately your receiver does not have preouts. Keep in mind, the more speakers you add to your system, typically the less wattage the receiver will send to each speaker. I had a Yamaha RX-V1800 and it sounded fantastic with 5 speakers. Once I connected two more, it's like the sound became lifeless. I later found out the 130 x 7 claim ended up being more like 55 x 7.3 points

Rush "Presto". This was first Rush record to be released after I was "aware" of who they were. It was kind of difficult to be on a high school drum line and not have someone offer you a little Rush. I heard them before this but never really listened. On this album, they started to drift away from the synth heavier stuff that was on some of the previous records. Also, the first time I saw Rush was for this tour.3 points

yeah, I think a little luck comes into play as well. As others have noted, Pavlov's Dog sounded a lot like RUSH, who went on to stardom. Not really sure who came first as they started at around the same time, but I was aware of PD long before I heard Rush due to them being a local band (to me). Like Rush, the musicians in the band were very talented. Maybe all the disharmony within the band made Columbia give up on them after two albums. Who knows. There was another local band that did the same thing, two albums and out, Mama's Pride, another one of my favorites. They too were real close but never broke out (stayed in AAA as Diz would say) They did have a few bad breaks as they had just signed to open several venues for Lynyrd Skynyrd right before the plane crash. That would have given them some good exposure. They put out a lot of great music on just two lp's (and one 45)3 points

I'm going to break this thread into four sections, the 5.0 setup, RF-83 vs Khorns, the RS-62's, and bi-amp. I am of the opinion that passive bi-amping works but the sound differences are minute. I intend to bi-amp the RF-83's with the Marantz expecting to confirm that theory. +++ I picked up a nice RF-83 package last week for a good price. RF-83, RC-64, and RS-62. Power is by the Marantz SR-6011. Thank you @jwc. I've got Khorns, CF-4's and some other nice speakers, but the WAF for the giant speakers is very low. The RF-83's are much higher on the WAF scale. After having the Khorns in the living room in a 3.1 to 5.1 configuration I didn't know if I could take less good sounding speakers. The RF-83's probably suffer technically, but in terms of pure fun the RF-83's with their mid-slam is proving to be "good enough" and they are much nicer looking in the living room.2 points

Kick yourself? Nay, nay Mr. dirtmudd, you should stub you second and third toes on an outside corner shoe molding in your hallway and say BAD! don't do that again!!2 points

@dirtmudd what you said abiut the Rush media collection. Have only 1 cd by them Rush Exit Left or ? Anyway live and a good one. Did not know they were as prolific. Anyway FR and JohnJ, Bloodrock was the band that did the famous DOA song, played to death on rafio in the day. Good band in their own right. Higher on the radar screen back then. Kool-Aid Kids... Alright then enough from me...2 points

If you do win you will have new LF's lined up around the block, but for the wrong reason.2 points

MassiveG, Welcome to the forum. I can't say for sure that replacing your AVR with Denon 4200 will be an earth shattering improvement but it definitely will not be a downgrade. Even though the RF-7II system does not "need" tons of power, it sure likes it. Headroom baby. I am all about suggesting adding an outboard amp but with your current Onkyo AVR it just can't happen. What size room do you have? How loud do you like it? Bill2 points

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, 'When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah'. The teacher asked, 'What if Jonah went to hell?' The little girl replied, 'Then you ask him'.2 points

We were in Wyoming, 2 mins 30 secs of totality. We had a documented (EDIT, typo) 15 degree drop in temprature. We were fortunate enough to also have shadow bands before and after totality which we were able to capture on a white sheet with video. The hundreds of acres of sunflowers we saw before the eclipse were following the sun as they normally do, after the eclipse they were all facing east, fooled into thinking the sun had set. You could look in any direction during totality and it looked just aftet sunset. Without a doubt the most spectacular natural event I have ever seen. Awe-struck doesn't even come close. Many much more able to describe it than I still come up short. Photos don't do it, videos don't do it; a total eclipse of the sun is just something you have to experience in person one time.2 points

We were in the 90% zone. It was cool, but the eclipse of 2024 will have us in the 100% zone. Watching him will make anybody reconsider their healthy eating habits. He eats a lot of fried stuff. Biscuits/gravy, pork chops, fried steak. I will shake his hand and it feels like he could crush my hand. WOW....that's a lot of rain. That storm came through here earlier today, some spots had a couple inches.2 points

ONE channel driven. It drops to 100 wpc with two channels driven. If you only got 40-50 wpc with all speakers driven as @Youthmansuggested, I would not be surprised. https://www.onkyousa.com/Products/model.php?m=TX-NR646&class=Receiver I am an Onkyo fanboy, but I find that kind of advertising on power ratings deceptive. Who runs a home theater on only one channel? The Denon AVR-X4200W is 140 wpc 2 channels driven. Much stronger. https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheater/receivers/avrx6300h1 point

Bob measured ESR, they were right on the money and identical to each other. The stock transformers were doing some strange things on his spectrum analyzer so I replaced them with a pair of his. All issues went away. On the second set, I just replaced them as I don't trust the stock ones anymore.1 point

Some break in will likely make the speakers get a warmer fuller sound but it may be that in the room and placement, the horn is putting out too much to balance the mids.1 point

I know that's what you said, but that was when the payout was a measly 300 mill. Your promise should increase in regards to the payout.1 point

I said whaaaaaa ?! I offered a generous four night stay in Hope's luxurious Hampton Inn figuring that to be enough for a lucky peasant. Offer someone five miles - they want the entire hiway !!1 point

This sounds like quite the event you're planning, I'm excited. Count me in for any help I can provide up here. Do I need to start securing speakers for your WOK....Wall of Klipsch? The HQ has speakers scattered all over their facility, some very cool prototypes.1 point

I know we all enjoy coffee for different reasons and with the rich taste being one this idea would defeat that purpose but with consumption in those amounts have you ever considered an I V? You know the kind where you can control the times, amount, etc. Just wheel that sucker around with you for a 24/7 coffee buzz.1 point

That Bloodrock 3 (Texas band) is what I would, and others have considered as an American Black Sabbath sound. Takeaway or add the organ. By the time you hit the 4th song, you may or may not agree on the comparison. Now Rush I have never thought near as much a fair analogy but, have not listened to all Rush. In the 69=70's time era, there was a band called Purple Underground I saw a couple of times in Orlando when living there that as may recall was haunted but flat out rocked as well. Looked on the tube but saw not the PU I am thinking about. Unless I am totally off on recall, there was another band in Florida by the name of Rush but, guess could have been the same. Would have to check when the big Rush, we all know and some love was created. Thanks...1 point

Klipsch had emailed me back the Rep contact for the Arkansas area and there's actually a dealer in Hot Springs, AR that displays all of the Heritage line...except Klipschorns, which is fine. So an easy 1.5 hour road trip will be in order soon to hear the Forte 3's and Cornwall 3's in direct comparison. Heck, might even listen to the La Scala 2's for the heck of it. Looking forward to getting to hear both side by side before deciding.1 point

I used to drive 13 hours to go see the boys in Hope. Did it a few times a year. I got my Horns in '78 from the sales manager at the time. They were made for him, but he took another job in Texas and when I was visiting him at his place in Washington (outside of Hope) he made me a deal I couldn't pass up on these rather rare horns. Later, Paul said, you SOB, I don't even have speakers that nice! I said; ya wanna buy some? Hahaha. Also, the guys gave me all the T-Shirts, original showroom sign, all types of memorabilia. All early stuff, which I was so thankful for. So, all these years later, still enjoying my horns and everything the boys did for me. Paul gave me the Crown amp and preamp. Bob Morris and VeeGee gave me the Thorns turntable. I'm blessed.1 point
