  1. Well I've listened to my 'fridge on more than one occasion and my Jubes sound far superior.

  2. They are actually readily available from me, and you can even come audition them, but the problem in the current form is that the product complexity, shipping logistics, aesthetics that aren't most people's idea of being living room friendly, and for dealers having to be somewhat immersed and personally use them in order to do the product justice in sales and support, kind of makes them a poor choice to just throw up on the website and let any customer buy them and any dealer sell them. That could be somewhat of a nightmare from what I've seen, that doesn't need to be reality right now. They are starting to push them more in the residential space though. Notice the brochure below which was just handed out at CEDIA.

  3. It's still nice to hear an old album and realize just how well the Forte III makes it sound. Different from a lot of what I've been listening to lately, more mature maybe, a very good musician. Billy Joel's "The Stranger" Side one of the Stranger then: side two of "Streetlife Serenade"

  6. Picked up a monster today. 5 hours in the van and $450 later. Man...that 10 looks tiny now... The guy still has a Cherry 15 for $500 and another black one for $475. He's moving Friday, so these are only around until then...

  9. Reminds me of my 20 year old daughter, when she played HS basketball. She is 5'2", 112 lbs, doesn't have much basketball skills. But where her skills left, her heart took off. That kid would give everything she had during the games. She never scored, mainly was in for defense, and getting her team fired up. Many games she left with bruised knees, fat lip, beat up, her coaches loved her.

  10. Well... My Xilica XP-4080 is now programmed with brand new settings from the Jubilee creator at Klipsch himself- Roy Delgado! I'd like to extend a huge thanks to Roy for working on this for current and future Jubilee owners!!! And... another big thanks to Cory @MetropolisLakeOutfitters for working with Roy to make this happen!!! Right now, without any added EQ my Jubilees sound natural right out of the box! I personally believe this is going to be a huge game changer for anyone previously scared to mess with Jubilees and an active crossover. Heres the back story... Cory @MetropolisLakeOutfitters ended up with a set of Roy's Jubilees after the Klipsch Pilgrimage... something about a friendly competive fishing bet (but only Cory and Roy know the real story). Afterwards Cory sent Roy a Xilica XP-4080 to work with. The Xilica is a more modern DSP than the previously popular Electro Voice DX38 that has been discontinued. Long story short- we now have settings from Roy for the Xilica. I've been listening for a few days and the results are fantastic right out of the box! I'm loving it! So what does this mean? Technically your Jubilees can be ordered with a pre-programmed Xilica DSP when you buy your Jubilees! Follow the simple instructions included for connecting your Preamp or Receiver to the Xilica, then to your amps (bi-amping is required) and then connect the speaker wires to your Jubilees. That's it and you're done! Pretty cool.

  11. I noticed this as well. I believe it's because roys setting are 24db/oct and my other settings are 48db/oct. They both sound much better than the passives to me.

  12. Adding a separate tweeter when you really don't need one because you have a good full-range compression driver that can handle those frequencies without issue--introduces polar coverage problems, especially in a home hi-fi setup, IMO. Jubs introduce another level of sound quality that responds strongly to better setup than other Klipsch offerings from the past. The more you work to flatten the frequency response and correct phase issues (crossover interference band polar coverage/time alignment issues), the better and more transparent they sound. They sound like nothing that I've heard elsewhere, especially when you get them dialed in well. If you did the same thing with Khorns (i.e., tri-amp, time-align, and EQ flat), you'd get 80-90% of the performance of the Jubs, particularly in terms of improved neutral sound. What you won't get is Jubilee room-filling sound whose soundstage covers the entire end of the room, and the improved clarity of performance that the Jubs present. The other Klipsch Heritage models including Khorns have a significantly narrower soundstage even when dialed-in using DSP. Chris

  13. That's the beauty of it, this DSP is actually pretty affordable considering what you're getting. Even full MSRP is like $1,140. A DX38 in great shape is often $1,500 on eBay, it's out of warranty, and you might need two. Just got to where it didn't make sense anymore. These new Xilica units have more PEQ bands, more powerful processors, double the processor speed on the sampling, a 31 band graphic EQ that I believe didn't exist before, twice the inputs and outputs, it's current, in stock, under warranty... and it's cheaper. And it's approved.

  15. The Cambridge CP2 was on the porch this morn when I took the mail out. Solid little chunk of dark aluminum, I've listened to several tunes on different records. The mid and high frequencies are more detailed and "out front" in the sound imaging I hear. Nice but "dry" sounding. It removes the bass from records I've played the past week that are fresh in my mind. I can hear and feel a substantial difference in that respect. So... the preamp that's internal in my Audio Technica AT LP-5 tt can make more full, rich and impactful bass than this external preamp. It's lacking the detail and clarity that the CP2 provides. Time for plan B.

  19. I've found so far Roy's settings are what I prefer. @Chris A and I got these Jubes sounding pretty darn good before I had any settings. Now between Roy's settings as a starting point and the things that Chris taught me I'm set. I can tinker until I'm blue in the face knowing I can always go back to Roy's or Chris's base settings at the click of a mouse. I knew nothing about active crossovers and was pretty intimidated at first. Chris A was really helpful and walked me through XConsole and REW. The basic knowledge he patiently taught me has allowed me to tinker weekly. I know a lot of people would prefer to go passive, but active is the future for bigger speakers/custom builds, etc. Heck- a set of Klipschorns would be a totally different speaker if they were time aligned, tri-amped, and crossed over with a DSP. The price between active and passive is nearly identical if you have amps. The deciding factors for me to go active were the following: 1. Fix the time alignment between the bass bin and the 402. I'd like to tell you it's not detectable, but it is. 2. Klipsch (Roy) approved settings for the Jubilee with the new K691 driver. This driver is awesome with the correct settings and so far I see no need to upgrade at this point. 3. 31 band EQ in the Xilica. If you know absolutely nothing about PEQ's, low shelf filters, etc... you can at least salt to taste here. EQ's have been around forever, and almost any audiophile has played with one. 4. If you're not afraid to tinker you can chase that last 5% of performance. I now actually enjoy tinkering thanks to Chris- lol

  22. I think it's a pretty huge deal myself. You're going to spend almost that much with a passive network anyway. The biggest problem with the passive solution right now is that a schematic does not exist for the current K-691 and new 402 combination. You can go with Crites but that's with a different compression driver, Roy doesn't consider it to be a Klipsch approved design and I respect that. You guys are pretty hardened by now so this stuff is second nature, but I've seen too many people get extremely frustrated trying to get the things working halfway decently when they get them. Look up the thread called "Just purchased Klipsch 535 B Jubilee. Have questions.". It was already a total cluster before it's halfway done with the second page and just gets worse. All this mess is now gone with this solution. This way it works out of the box, leaves you room to expand in the future at no extra cost such as adding a sub that needs some DSP tweaks, and allows you to customize it once you are comfortable assuming you ever feel the need. Most importantly though, this guy could have been smiling within minutes even while knowing relatively little about them.

  25. I think that there are a lot of potential Jubilee owners that aren't comfortable with the DSP programming part--at least up-front. That's okay since Cory is supporting and can get you going with a pre-programmed Xilica. The really big deal, as you've pointed out Mike, is that you can later dial the low frequency end below the room's Schroeder frequency, and even tweak the overall system frequency response to further flatten it out due to amplifier--preamp--source frequency response irregularities...or even perhaps integrate another pair of compression drivers, if you so choose. There's no cost associated with any of this except a little of your time to dial it in further. It only takes a little familiarization with the unit's controls and the freely provided XConsole running on your PC/Mac, and a calibrated microphone--such as a UMIK-1. and the freeware REW in-room measurement app. Chris

  26. So my clone Jubs came out of finishing today. Almost ready to play again. These are clones wernt made by me. I did tear them down to wood again, reglued the doghouse and resealed her. The Crites 12" woofers (K22/K24 compatibles) were bolted back into place and I remade a new wiring harness. There are doghouse doors on top and bottom. The top door now holds the binding posts and there is a corresponding hole cut into the top hat. ALK was kind enough to revist his ESN500 for Jubs and redid simulations. The project came with the Fastlane Eliptrac 400 and Faital HF200s so they were reused. The horn is fully glued in likely will never be removed again. I had to head to work before I could finish this. I love the look. Instead of looking like a science project, she now looks mighty respectable. I do have access to the famous 223 tratrix but the increased size and need for 3way operation dissuaded me. Deep down my favorite systems are 2way and this is the summit for that use. My wife has threatened to end me if I try to bring them in the house, but life without risk is boring .

  27. Excellent! Interesting that the first 3 quotes from JFK (during the Eisenhower administration) counseled caution in getting involved, and the 4th one seemed to say, something like, "We helped build this mess, so we can't just leave." Toward the end of his administration, in the interview with Cronkite (coming soon on the series, I'm sure) he seemed to show frustration with the South ... "In the last analysis, it's their war." People will never stop debating whether he was considering withdrawing the advisors and arms. "Truth is the first casualty."

  32. I find this whole Jubes discussion fascinating. The Jubes are spoken of with almost reverential respect by those who have them. We all know Klipsch sells speakers to make money, so there must be a reason why these are not readily available. Please correct me if I am wrong. EDIT: @dtel's wife did correct me a little bit downstream. She said they were available and to contact @MetropolisLakeOutfitters for info. Thanks for the correction. -DS They certainly have a golden reputation by those who have them.

  33. ^^^ Yep what Chris A said! My Jubilees smoke my Klipschorns. Jubilees are truly next level which is why they were going to be the replacement for the Klipschorn in the first place. I think I saw a quote that described the Jubilee as the best speaker Klipsch NEVER built- I think Roy may have said it. And officially the two-way Jubilee still doesn't exist. It's not on any price sheets, not on the website, etc. The Jubilee just exists as another option for movie auditoriums on the Pro site as a three-way design with no marketing for home use as a two-way whatsoever. My prediction; however, is that will shortly change as the word gets out. I think in total there are less than 70 people that actually own Jubilees with the largest increase in owners probably this year. I think the new active settings however change the game. I wouldn't be surprised if they become available with a passive crossover or available as active - maybe shipped with something similar to a Klipsch KDA-1000 with all crossover settings, delay, PEQ's etc. pre-programmed.

  34. So this is trying to make my records sound like they used to on my old turntable at a minimum. Current tt has pretty good sound, stock cart had a not all there half held back bass response and it lacked the timbre ( my word of the week) in vocals and high frequencies. Upgraded the cart and fixed that. Played tunes from 70s, 80s and 90s decent lps just now and they lost the bass that they had prior to the CP2. Plan B will be here tomorrow: https://ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/micro-itube2/ I'll stick with the tt internal preamp until or unless another aspect regresses with "B"

  40. Not true, whoever told you that is either a tinkerer or trying to over complicate things, or has a really terrible room, that simple. I am in that 70%, I use the original DSP's, I did play with another program but always went back to the original. If you can buy a active crossover from Cory, it's plug and play, if you feel like changing anything that's your choice BUT definitely not required. The general idea with a preset EQ from Cory is it's ready to go like any other Klipsch speaker, but unlike any other passive this setup can be changed easily at no cost. This really needed to happen, like many people wanting to get into something like this I was very intimidated not being a tinkerer. I got lucky, JC was selling a EV DX-38 and generously offered to put in the settings for the mwm/402. It's what I still use
    1 point
  41. Yes, previously if you used the EV settings on a Xilica unit, once you got to the low shelf filter, it just went haywire. That's why I sent one in.

  42. It's actually quite easy, as a matter of fact. And if you subtract the effort required to dial in the settings to start with--i.e., Cory supplies Xilicas with Roy's anechoic settings--then it gets really easy. Of the home Jub owners that I'm aware of--about 53 to date--70% use DSP crossovers and most of those use Roy's settings if they're still using the Klipsch-supplied compression drivers--i.e., they're not really "tinkering", although it's there if they want to tinker. ...and the Xilica is a really good device to have in order to "tinker". Chris
