  2. 65? And 'Ceptor, 50? Come on guys hike 'em up and ride. Now admittedly as I've gotten older my extreme cold riding has dwindled but I would ride in the mid-30's regularly, streets permitting. And rode many many days into the 20's where it does start to cool you a bit. Best riding accessory I own are electric heated gloves plugged into the battery. If my hands are warm I'm good to go. Is funny that when its really cold you don't feel the warmth from the gloves but your hands don't get cold. Electric gloves and electric vest/jacket under your main riding coat and you can darn near ride no matter how cold. And the "club" I ride with always meets for a New Year's Day breakfast regardless of temps and there have been plenty into the teens. Don't show and you may as well hang your ballz on the mantel !?

  4. I would say 60 is a good number. But after a long cold winter, maybe a temp in the 40s would be ok with the top down.

  5. 50 if you got a couple of martinis in ya!

  6. morning all. more of a lurker than a poster over in this thread but thought I'd check in. it's been as cold here as most anywhere else. dipped in places night before last near 10 I think. in the teens last night. got a dusting of snow Tuesday, barely got to freezing yesterday. should get to +/- 40 today, and 65 Saturday. you know what they say - don't like the weather? give it a little while.

  7. We will have a warmup also...High of 30 today, 38 tomorrow, and in the 50s over the weekend! I like the snow, but hate the cold. Ever rode a snowmobile?

  11. Lol, now I know you cannot have forgotten about vinegar, as much as we drink it here. A little white vinegar on a white cloth. Too cold for a ladder. Try a skyhook instead. Although, I prefer the diffusion of sunlight through a dirty window. A bit of old world charm about it as it claSHES WITH MY Spartan OCCUPREMENTS.

  12. As some of may know I've been trying to find a pair of Chorus 1's for a little over 2 years now local to me in the Seattle area without any luck. I grew so frustrated and impatient that I actually assembled my own creation with a mixture of parts that ended up being closer to a hybrid Pro CornScala / Heritage Inspired 362, details are in another thread. Long story short as I was adding the finishing touches to my 362 build a pair of empty Chorus 1 cabinets became available in Portland, a short 6 hour round trip from my house so I dropped everything and went and picked them up. I just finished assembling them a day or two ago and have been enjoying them ever since so figured I'd post a few pictures of the project so here it goes. Parts include titanium tweeters, NOS k-52-H mid diaphragms, Crites rebuilt Chorus II crossovers and new k-45 woofers. All horns / drivers input cups have gasket tape and I added egg crate acoustic foam inside the cabinets. The paint job turned out much nicer than I could have imagined, not perfect but very nice!

  14. I would think 10 around you would be right, it was 14 last night here and 18 the night before, sucks, but we should be back to around 70 by the end of the week. What's funny is we got a light dusting of snow Tuesday night for a few hours, schools and business are still closed today, for a second day, if you look really hard you might find a patch of snow in the shade where the sun couldn't reach. I don't like cold but we are NOT moving more South to avoid it, this is close enough to the sun in the summer as I care to live. I'll be complaining about the heat in a few months, as usual, guess it happens more the older you get.

  15. if it bothers you because or area used and you have a good sub already, just go get a plate amp and put it in the sub. There are some good Class D amps that will not use up much volume in the cabinet and are very powerful.

  16. My magic number on a bike was 50, now it's 60! I grew up on dirt bikes and quads, they are a blast. Jet skis are fun also. Gokarts are awesome. Riding a street bike is a little more fun. Racing a motorcycle is a thrill. But nothing is as much fun as riding a snowmobile

  17. 21 here this morning. The electricity at work went off in the middle of the night but just came back on. Things are starting to finally warm up. Tomorrow I think it will be in the 60s and Sat maybe 70 (AHHHHHH).

  18. We were warned of possible flurries but nothing but cold. 22 degree low and sunny. The horror.....

  19. I have never ridden a snowmobile. I know they have some fast ones. But then again I wont ride my motorcycle under 65 degrees.

  20. I was born in Indiana, moved to Michigan when I was 10. When you cross the border they give you a snowmobile as a house warming gift. I remember going trick-or-treating with a snowmobile suit over my costume because it was so damn cold. Had to unzip like a flasher at every house then run to the next with my frozen snickers. No thanks, been moving further south since I was in my 20s. I won't be happy till I live at the equator. Don't care if I ever see snow again...and I was just back in Michigan for a week. It totally reinforced my thoughts. If there was any part of my being that thought "well maybe the cold is not so bad" it was eradicated upon that fist morning with frozen nose hairs. You Michigan/Wisconsin/Minnesota people know what I am talking about. You breath in and all your snot/hairs are frozen together like a faulty zipped Ziploc bag of veggies in your freezer. All crystalized and nasty. Sorry, frozen rant over. I think I have frozen-PTSD from my recent trip back home. I'll try and thaw out with some more coffee!

  22. I want one! Was on the wagon last night. I think I have the shakes. Top of the morning to all you Coffee Consuming Cowboys. I think today is the day we move above freezing. I'm ready for a mid-winter thaw. What say you all?

  23. He placed it there for the added color to enhance the posters' colors. As you can see in the picture, that plant is made to hang. <edit> It was there for the photo only and is now hanging somewhere else, where it belongs.

  32. Funny that you mention that Bill. I was talking to my bud bluesboy out on the west coast and mentioned that some guys on the forum had said I should have the top down on the bubble at 50 degrees. I told him maybe at 60 degrees

  33. New 3636 Autoformers from Bob C came in yesterday and I should be seeing my Parts Express order with the caps, coils, barrier strips, and other parts today. And I have two Mouser orders that should show up today, as well. I had ordered the terminals, per Dean's thread, along with some main filter caps for my Sunfire sub that was buzzing. I emailed Bob (Carver) on Tuesday morning and we emailed back and forth a little about what to do with the sub. He said it was "easy" and told which capacitors to change out so those were ordered "after" my first order. No biggie. Bob Carver is a helluva guy and I'm proud to say I've known him for about 30 years now. He's hoping to get to finally retire but "just can't seem to stop", as he put it. I'm "hoping" that I can build and cover the grills for the Belle's this weekend as it's actually supposed to get to 50 degrees outside! Woo hoo! I'd like to have them completely done before they go to my best friends house in his upstairs music room for storage in the next couple of months. Maybe there'll be time to build the new AA networks, too, this weekend. Since our offer was accepted for the land, we will be packing some things away and putting in a storage building to have the house cleared out some to get it listed But, stereo things are not going into storage....my buddy offered to store all of my electronics stuff. I'll be listing my CF-3's at some point in Garage Sale, too. I'd rather whittle things down than pack them away and hoard them. They won't see much use with the new speakers.

  35. Their products are factory refurbished so you may be getting a unit in better shape than new out of box. I have bought two receivers from them in the past, both performed flawlessly and didn't have a scratch on them. My Pioneer Elite came with a 3 year warranty that I upgraded to a 5 year warranty. I plan on keeping it a while. I have been looking at the 7011 myself. BTW, that 6011 shows $729. as of this posting.. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  36. "Efficiency" "From a technical standpoint, “efficiency” is defined as the sound power output divided by the electrical power input—but that’s not how consumers use the word. So rather than try to turn laypeople into engineers, we’ll just concentrate on sensitivity. The reason for quoting sensitivity rather than efficiency is that the true efficiency of a speaker varies wildly with frequency because of its impedance variation. The efficiency quote would be fairly meaningless, so loudspeaker engineers measure and refer to “sensitivity” instead."

  37. My 4 unpowered VMPS subs are all run by outboard power amps (Acurus A250s). Nothing is wrong with that. Multiple subs are more about lower distortion and smooth response, though you will pick up an extra 6 dB peak for each doubling (1 -> 2 = +6, 2 -> 4 = +6 more dB).

  38. For anyone that may have followed the Industrial La Scala saga, I delivered them to @jimjimbo today. In the end jimjimbo did compensate me for the transportation of the LaScalas in banana nut bread. I am a lucky guy!

  39. I just use an AVR, top of the line if I can (like the Yamaha 3070). I don't care as much for it's amp section, but I do use it for some channels, as I am running 11.1 (or 7.1.4 I guess). And the height / surround channels don't typically need as much juice. Good processors cost the same or more, I'm ok with the level of processing I get with an AVR and I like the flexibiity of using the AVR amp if I need to. Take a deeper look at the specs, in particular the DACs used. Maybe that's not something I can hear the difference in, but I know my 3070 uses superior DACs to the 2070 and below. Peace of mind I guess. Also the best room correction software is provided in the top of the line.

  40. I Wonder if that is new. I was looking at the Marantz 8012 and they quote it now one channel too. I did a double take when I saw 205 per channel

  43. Ordered all new parts today to build a Type AA crossover just to have something all new. It may not be what everyone would work with for parts but it will work for me and my tinkering. I now know what an original parts Type AA from older Belle's sounds like with adding Russian MGBO NOS paper in oil caps and they sound good but seem a little laid back. With my tinnitus and non-extended HF hearing these days, I need something that runs a little hotter in the upper register. So instead of just replacing caps in what I have, I decided to "go new". I have a pair of 3636 autoformers from Bob coming, then Audyn Plus caps for the tweeters and Q4 for the squawker, Jantzen coils for the tweeter and Erse for the woofer, and barrier strips from Parts Express. I also ordered the parts @Deang recommended in the Type AA build thread from Mouser. Maybe they'll be here by the end of the week and I can find some time to build them. Saturday, I'm installing an add-on remote start in my best friends' wife's Ford Edge Sport (his birthday present to her...my install). He and I have been best friends for over 41 years now and her for over 30 years.
