  2. From folksy music across the Atlantic to some from my neck of the "woods" CDB in more of a showroom clean sound than their great stuff but still Charlie Daniels! With it being 1980 a tribute to Tommy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band passing that spring.

  7. Yes sir, it was me that got them. My SX-1250 is Walnut as well as my PL-570 so that Walnut was a major bonus. I'm going to see how they sound first with my ss receiver but now I'm thinking about tube amps. The saga never ends!

  15. @DizRotus I don't think he meant Iditarod. It was a spacing issue: I did a rod. I have never done a rod myself, but I hear that some people do, and, as they say, there's nothing wrong with that.

  20. Had to look that up, winter festival, once again, if your not local you have no idea. I would guess no wet t shirt contest and Rondy. That would hurt Probably it's not good to type what I think sometimes.

  21. Congrats, mighty fine speakers you got there! Crites drop in Crossovers and titanium tweeters will put these over the top IMO, you'll be spoiled on extreme detail and clarity from that point on so be warned!

  22. Tim is a great guy and this is unfortunate for him so let's help a fellow audio nut out. I bought 4-456's and 4 of the mwm splits. I'll figure out what to do with them later at these prices it's a no brainier.

  24. Bill the problem with trying to assign a single impedance value to a loudspeaker is in the fact that the large majority of them actually have a complex impedance that varies with frequency and the truth is a single number is often of very little use and whenever information is available showing the complex impedance of the loudspeaker then well informed decisions can be made but the average consumer wouldn't understand how best to use this information unfortunately. Also I will say well designed amplifiers should easily be able to handle loads from 4-ohms and up and if they don't I would be looking for a different amplifier because amplifiers must be able to handle impedance swings of loudspeakers. Here again is the Jub LF Raw Impedance Plot and in the specific case of the Jub LF as you are using it the impedance in the range from 20Hz to 600Hz should be the area of focus. Within this range we see the highest impedance peak of about 27 ohm @ 43Hz and the lowest impedance of about 3.35 ohm @ 68 Hz and as can be seen within this range an overall average of about 4 ohms is the best value to use when matching to Tube Amplifiers Output Transformer Tap Options. "They said to switch to 4 ohm's that being on 8 ohm's was forcing the amp to put out double power." While this is true because how you impedance load the secondary of the output transformer will be reflected back to the primary impedance of the output transformer (that the Output Tubes work into) it's not that simple and to blame the mismatched tap settings in this case for excessive wear is very questionable IMO unless you were pushing the amplifier towards it's maximum capabilities over long periods of time. Since we are talking Jubs here as little as 10 watts would send many people out of the typical size listening room in a very short time and the MC275 is capable of much more even if one was to de-rate it's output capability due to the impedance tap mismatch. Now if you are in a very large space and pushing the amplifier toward it's maximum output then they might have a point about excessive wear of the output tubes. Regardless placing the Jub LF on the 4 ohm tap of the amplifier will give your amplifier/loudspeaker the optimum balance of distortion, power output and least wear on the output tubes. miketn

  30. That's enough to cause you to freeze your Wasilla off. Your better than me, I couldn't handle that cold and wind. Another 15 mph winds and that would be the start of a category 1 hurricane. I bet with the winds going through parts of the mountains some places are much worse.

  33. Is there seriously nothing available anywhere on the west coast? It seems like all these speaker adventures are like jumping through huge hoops of fire just to get something there. Isn't there anything where you can just fly to a city, rent a car/truck/van, buy something, drive back, unload, turn car in, and be done? I bought a Mustang Cobra in Seattle years ago and flew in one night then drove back 2,000 miles over 3 days back to Tulsa. It was rather enjoyable. Shipping 100 to 150lb each speakers isn't something that's easy and safe in doing for most average people. When Klipsch dealers typically get their speakers, they come on a pallet on a big truck thus the reason the boxes don't look too major. They're meant to get from the dealer to someone's house. UPS and Fedex aren't big fans of shipping large speakers or boxes of any kind either. Write Fragile on them and see what happens... I was a Manufacturers Rep for 9 years for companies like Onkyo/Integra, NAD, PSB, Elan, Sunfire, Mitek/MTX, Rockford Fosgate, etc., etc. There were order minimums dealers had to hit for getting free shipping to them. If they didn't hit that minimum, the dealer got charged the freight and then it went to the customer. Especially on special orders.

  36. not whining at all.. actually was laughing & just wanted to let others see it so they could have laugh too. people post things like this all the time. honestly, it's hardly worth even commenting on a sarcastic thread like that... however, i will be editing this post as i just spoke to the seller & the $2700 price was was to include free shipping to FRANCE! he said a buyer wanted them very bad & was willing to pay all shipping & seller fees for them. the seller has since deleted the listing & will try to work out the logistics privately. again, was just for laughs as the price was comical if it was a domestic sale.

  38. Dont sign anything. Tell them its unacceptable and show them prices for used K horns in a 500 mile radius. Who are they using to give you an ACV value on the speakers? Trust me, hold out, the longer it goes the more desperate they will be wanting off the books. No one will come pick up them up when you get more money, I promise.

  39. Sure, that was my guess as well. Their problem is the CURRENT value has appreciated, not depreciated. The replacement value new is $12,000. You will have current values listed for the last couple of years Khorns, well documented. Good luck.

  43. My understanding is the K-691 is basically a B&C DE75 8 ohm with modification. Bill maybe when @Chief bonehead has time he will share the raw impedance plot with the K691/K402 with us and the Frequency Response with his Active Application. Maybe this will help in the mean time for what it's worth: Here is the B&C DE 75 P 8 ohm Data taken with the driver on a B&C ME 75 Horn from the B&C website. I would suspect any modification for Klipsch on this driver and loaded on a K402 would possibly smooth and/or possibly lessen some of the peaks and possibly lessen the rising impedance with frequency toward the upper end of the spectrum but the minimum in the frequency range of interest is at least 8 ohm and I suspect it would be for the K-691 also. B&C DE 75 P 8 ohm.pdf Here is the Impedance Plot from the pdf above. Hope this is of some help, miketn

  47. An in-tune BMW airhead twin sounds like a PERFECTLY BALANCED engine design SHOULD SOUND! Actually, when riding, you just hear the valve train...tikka, tikka, tikka...like a Singer sewing machine...it does NOT sound that way, then you DEFINITELY need a valve adjustment ASAP! When my bike starts getting LESS THAN 45-47 mpg on the highway, then it is time for a valve adjustment...I only re-torque the heads about every third or fourth valve adjustment. It takes about 15-20 minutes max on a cold engine to do it all, once you start the job...unless you are lollygagging around or trying to teach somebody how to do their own work. BMW airheads with aluminum alloy nickasil-coated cylinder bores don't have a base gasket, they have an O-ring, instead!
