  1. Afternoon gang.... What a great day....... Sunny 83* right now..... just a good day to take off work and so we did... The BOSS cancelled our one job today and we are chilling at the house, putting some Carver watts too the Chorus II's. The Chorus II's will most likely be leaving this weekend. Some dude that I meet on a audio Facebook group was looking for a pair. He stopped over last weekend and checked them out. I haven't played them in a long time and the last time I did I thought they were lacking bass. Anyway put them against a wall and they kicked as I remember a Chorus II does. I was kinda having 2nd thoughts about offing them. Anyway they've been in my daughters room for two plus years now with all the other gear that don't use. I am looking too get some funds together for other speaker projects.... and I still got my Chorus I's and a shitt load of other Klipsch. The Chorus II's were not in the best condition non-consecutive SR#'s... OK too look at from a distance. Had $475 in em so that's what I told him. Probably could have gotten more if I parted them out.... But then there's the hassle of shipping and e-bay! and I thought there going to someone that can appreciate them. The guy owns K-horns and has had Chorus II's before. So just chillin today... feeling pretty good from the sickness thing, gonna go to the gym tomorrow and see how I do. Later all.... MKP :-)

I did grind coffee the night before. ou would think someone would take qiet operation into consideration when theyy design coffee grinders. I mean, we haven't had our coffee yet and that NOISE!!! Pavlovian repose now. I cringe and salivate.

  6. A learning suggestion: Take pictures in Manual mode only. Most of my photos are taken this way. You will really get to know how ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focus, field of depth, and white balance affect your pictures.

  9. I searched and could not find a "road trip" thread so here is my latest. I thought I would share my experience with Tim in St Louie (Rescue Audio) for those wondering. Friday March 23rd I traveled from Murfreesboro AR over to St Louis MO roughly 450miles one way. My wife and son were on spring break so they joined me in the road trip. I picked up a 6x12 uhaul trailer that morning (beautiful morning a nice 70d out) in Nashville. I had arranged with Tim to unhook it at his house so the family and I could spend the day in St Louis Saturday, more on that later. We hooked it up and headed out. I have to say that the North East side of Arkansas is absolutely terrible for traveling, nothing to look at but farmland. I live in a beautiful state but this has to be my least favorite area. I guess if I was farming that would be a different story. Anyway back on track, we made great time and got to the Hotel about 2:30 on the 23rd. I called up Tim who was waiting for my son and I at his shop. I asked him if he had any landmarks that would make finding his place easy he said yep just look for the BRIGHT YELLOW BMW "there is no missing that car", he was right. I should have snapped a pic of his shop and how he had the 456's displayed. He had them lined up on the loading dock, wiped down and ready to roll. Side story my son is heading off to CRAS in Gilbert AZ next year to pursue a career in the audio industry. So being that Tim used to work (still does from time to time) live audio I thought it would be great for my son to meet a well seasoned engr. Only problem is my son is very introverted, takes him some time to get used to someone before he opens up. Unfortunatly we didn't have a lot of time. Anyway Tim offered him some great advice, on what to do, what not to do and most of all what it takes to be successful. He simply told my son "Hard work produces positive results" I thought that summed it up pretty good. Back on track......so Tim showed me his shop which to say was a candy store for me. He had tall stacks here, drivers there some older vintage Altec stuff lots of JBL empty cabs, EAW fly boxes and SUBS, SUBS and more SUBS just to name a few items! Once we had taken the tour it was time to load up the 4/456 boxes and the 2/EV TL770 subs. Let me say the loading dock is elevated roughly head high from the ground so you will need an additional hand to help if you buy speakers of the size I bought. Anyway got everything loaded up and tied down. Tim and I talked about dropping the trailer at his house, then I noticed something the damn U-Haul trailer did not have a jack to lower and raise the tongue. No way could we "man handle" it with all that Klipsch woofage on the tongue. So I told Tim I would go find a harbor freight and get a small jack and a stand this afternoon and drop the trailer at his house early on Saturday, Tim said that would be great as he had date night with his wife tonight. So my son and I headed out went to harbor freight picked up a small floor jack and jack stand for 35 bucks...gotta love harbor freight and the coupons! We then headed out to eat at a TEX-MEX place called Chevy's next to the hotel. Had a great meal and headed back to the hotel (Residence Inn). I parked way out away from everyone since I needed the space with my truck and the U-Haul trailer. Saturday the 24th. Woke up to cold temps and rain, not the best weather conditions to be walking around sight seeing but we were determined UNTIL I went downstairs to pull my truck around. Some a-hole parked right in front of me and another a-hole parked right behind me in the damn parking lot boxing me in. Hotels don't take the license plate numbers anymore so there was no way to know who the a-hole was. I went back to my room HOT to say the least, who the heck does that? Sooooo it wasn't until about 1pm that the a-hole behind me finally left so I could get the truck out by this time the day was shot so we checked out of the room and headed south. I can say that it was a good thing I wasn't in my younger years or the wife would have been paying bail money to get me out. Got home about 8pm that night. Sunday the 25th After church service my son and I unloaded the goodies, I was like a 5yr old at Christmas time! Couldn't wait to get these fired up. Son and I ran the U-Haul trailer back to Nashville. The experience with Tim was awesome he is a great dude with a wealth of knowledge and is willing to go out of his way to make sure your experience is the best it can be, do not hesitate to buy from him. I ordered a pair of networks from Bob for one set. Man I have to say these are wonderful speakers, far better than what I was expecting and the EV sub is no slouch very clean sub, I like this combo A LOT!

  18. Really simple and effective. It's been around for decades, and in code for well over a decade. A typical scratch is VERY short, and referred to as an impulse noise. The original '70s designs were analog, at least in the signal. They used "bucket brigade" ICs to delay the audio long enough to ID an impulse noise, grab an equal amount of audio on either side of it, then replace it with the patch. Set properly and unless the record was pretty well trashed, it did a pretty great job of masking impulse noises and the "patch" was not audible, as it's very short. Now, it's done in code and with digital or digitized sources. Found in lots of audio editing software these days. Like the earlier ones, one has to use one's ear to determine the best threshold of time/amplitude to trigger it. But the results can be excellent. Dave

  21. With the right content that one has listened to for years in a single setup or their personal listening environment, its easy to pick out a difference in amps or sources in instances. Now you have a group show up even in a crappy room (which surprisingly so many demonstrations happen in) and listen to something in this new environment with AVR power and then jump to a tube setup, its very plausible. Even different Amp classes like a D vs A/AB, maybe. Different AVR's, my money would be on a no.

  22. Hope it's Friday. Wife would be pissed if I wake her on Sat. Oh ... whata ya know? Friday the 13th. Almost a new moon, if you are into those type of things. since everyone needs a hobby I have taken a new one. Buggering telemarketers. Particularly the ones that spoof local numbers. The area is small enough, that I actually know some of the people whose numbers are being spoofed. One was my neighbor. I had one guy swearing at me when I got to the punch line. I wasted about a half hour of his time.

  23. That also happen with my family.... My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer.. and she went to go live with her daughter ( my aunt ).. i took over my grandmothers home... Where I am today.. so my grandmother lived with my uncle and aunt... my grandmother passed in 07, and my uncle passed in 08... Found a video of the home.. Where we would spend Christmas , thanksgiving ,and Easter... The house was a raised ranch... And one of the garage stalls... Turned into a second kitchen and full bath... To accommodate my grandmother needs.. Unfortunately the house was sold ... But Gia was able To be there for her birthday and Christmas.. A few years back.. To be with my family... As I watched the video... There's my grandmother 's Old kitchen table with chairs... That was restored About 20 years back... I sat at that table as a little kid.. Watching my grandmother.. Make homemade pasta and Italian sausage... Now the kitchen table and chairs.. Are back up here At my father's house..

  26. It had a ramp on each side, it was a duck house. Green head mallards, apparently not very smart when half grown. I put that out there for them to go in at night but they insisted on sleeping on land and only going in there house during the day. Over time something got to all of them. We got more, most of these made it and stayed for a while, wild ones flew in and eventually they flew off with the wild ones, they were all wild really. I just never removed it because if i do they will want more ducks.

  28. I think I'll change the subject.... a bad hair day ... tie down the VW. a steady breeze of 25 gusts to 40. I stayed indoors, even though the temp isn't bad 80`. I'm so skinny I need to fill the wagon with rock and tie myself to it if I want to go out. fish and chips tonite. Wife bought some beer battered cod from Schwann's ... not the bicycle people - they're Schwinn. You can smell the beer [flavoring?] when they are cooking. Surprisingly loud. Not bad for frozen. We'll survive them. We're sposed to get a freeze Sat AM. Freeze and frost are different. No humidity, no frost. Our dew point is well below freezing.. The say it is going to struggle to make 70 for a high. Might singe a few things. But, not a hard freeze... or for very long. Temp will go up 45 degrees between sunrise and 5PM.

  35. @Full Range @dirtmudd I've allowed you two to be an influence to my wallet lately. The King Crimson collection I've started to build is what I had known and had an abridged collection on two cassettes one here and one long gone! Got the three 80's recordings either here or on the way here now. It's fun even without the other two parts of the R&R trifecta. That catchy addictive tune by Carla Bley & Nick Mason made me search until I just pulled the trigger on a "Like New" copy of that and an old Weather Report LP that I haven't even bothered to think about until listening to that entire other lp on youtube the other night!

  36. We've seen these before. A guy and his son refurbs Klipsch speakers with exotic looking nice veneers then tries to resell them for quadruple what they would normally sell for on the used market.

  37. One other thing that I should mention: straight-sided horns have a property known as "boundary gain", like other horn profiles (exponential, hyperbolic, parabolic, etc) due to the presence of nearby walls, floor and ceiling. The Khorn bass bin explicitly makes use of corner gain to complete the horn's last fold, and to provide boundary gain loading. This also works the same for other horn-loaded bass bins mentioned above (as well as direct-radiating woofers in the corner of a room). Here is an acoustic impedance plot of a "manifold exponential horn" using three sections in series, like that of a folded horn bass bin in a room corner: Even having one wall and a floor nearby to the horn's mouth will provide added boundary gain, thus further increasing the low frequency throat resistance of the horn, and improving low bass frequency output below the typical "rule of thumb" low frequency cutoff point of the horn. Because the straight-sided horns of the MEH type have very large mouths compared to their conventional horn brothers, they actually load more efficiently via boundary gain than do exponential and hyperbolic horns of the folded-horn type. So the K-402-type full-range MEH loudspeaker is good to 30 Hz--20 kHz by using two woofers of 15" diameter and only a K-402-sized horn in boundary gain. Its low frequency output is increased relative to direct radiating woofers due to horn loading, and this reduces the modulation distortion vis-à-vis direct radiating mode. Chris
