  4. To go back to less conventional and less commercial discs, music will not please everyone, because it is not easy music to listen to. I have an original bought in 1983 the day of its release, near mint and in original plastic sleeve https://www.discogs.com/fr/Various-40-Days-40-Nights/release/716932

  5. Hmmmmmm, getting caught up consider stuff "liked." Sounds like we're all going to be in trouble w/micro hanging around. I'm now thinking about incorporating lasers just for giggle's in this room IF I ever get it done. Ha! Just one question for @JohnJ. Why in the world did you give him those emotie's? hahahaha Started throwin some down this afternoon. No rhyme or reason.

  6. I have at least five of these that are not broken or chipped. I am not going to use these as they are too fragile but if someone is interested they can have them for $15 each FREE and PICK UP ONLY!!. I am NOT going to even try to send these because the amount of packing to get them safely to the other end is not worth it to me. These are crude, I mean really crude compared to the later models. This is a limited time offer and soon I might just give them to the speaker place where all parts go to die if they are still here. If you are interested be forewarned that slight overtightening of a screw will cause pieces to spall out or the mounting flange to break.

  7. Great news, I just got a response from Rudy and though he's still in the hospital, he's feeling better and appears to be on the road to recovery! I'm sure he will tell us all about it when he's back at home.

  9. Puhleeze stop attempting to equate covid19 to any flu except the 1918 flu. Why? Because those 2 events have one big thing in common - ZERO human immunity to a lethal virus. During a normal flu season hospitals do not get buried in critically sick peoples. Sure a lot of people get sick but it is spread out spatially and over time. A regular flu season is manageable. Yes influenza kills but covid19 is shown to be 15X more fatal and that’s with the best care possible. Hopefully covid19 will ONLY kill less than 100,000. That will happen ONLY if America keeps itself shut-in and sequestered for whatever length of time is needed to stifle this bug.

  11. Their not for the faint of heart... Listen to the Fripp Sacred Songs is American singer/songwriter Daryl Hall's first solo album. It was produced by guitarist Robert Fripp, who also played on the album. 1977, Hall and Fripp reconnected while Hall was writing songs for his solo debut; Hall drafted Fripp as producer and guitarist. Hall wrote all the songs, except "Urban Landscape", (a 'Frippertronics' solo), and "NYCNY" for which Fripp wrote the music and Hall the lyrics, and which appeared also on Fripp's Exposure (1979) only with different lyrics as "I May Not Have Had Enough of Me but I've Had Enough of You". Sacred Songs was recorded in a span of three weeks, with most of the songs initially recorded with Hall singing and playing piano alongside Fripp's guitar work, followed by overdubs by Hall & Oates' regular touring band. Hall insisted on working with his own band rather than with the Los Angeles session musicians who had played on Bigger Than Both of Us (1976), the previous fifth Hall & Oates album. Although the session players were uniformly excellent musicians, Hall felt their performances were hampered by a disconnectedness from the songs. The album was originally intended to be part of a loose trilogy of sorts with Peter Gabriel's 1978 second album and Fripp's Exposure (1979), all of which Fripp produced.[2]

  21. For a person who has not left my yard in 12 days that is a very wonderful fantasy. With the exception of the Speedo comment, which made me gag, it's everything I hope for when we meet again in a brave new world. It is going to be different but most of us will be the same. Laws of physics won't have changed and neither will our loudspeakers. Dave

  23. This thing is kind of like a hurricane. You have those people who say I'm going to prepare, be ready to evacuate, and leave well before it's too late. They look at the "cone", the models and do what they're supposed to do. There is less death as a result. But there is a fringe who look at the lower numbers and say, "see it was a panic, over reaction." My biggest fear is when it rebounds, and it will rebound, people come away from this first round thinking it was media hype and no big deal. The better you react to it and prepare, the more you prove the view of the uneducated and ill informed. It's a paradox.

  24. 18 days Last night I made final preparations for swag, packed up the truck and it's fully loaded with speakers, amps, extension cords, mics and the laptop. I almost forgot to get the massive amount of Chili out of the freezer and load it in the cooler but the bottles of bourbon are in along with a special glass from which to drink it from. I really hope I left enough room for @richieb Heresy slants that I have to pick up from @Budman while heading through Cincinnati. I have a couple of stops to make driving through Kentucky and @Woofers and Tweeters suggested a few liquor stores to check out where I might be able to score a few more bottles of hard to find bourbon. it's 5:00AM, 40oz of DD coffee in the travel mug, just kissed Denise goodbye and getting on the road. If all goes well I should have the slants picked up and a few more bottles of bourbon in the truck by noon, I've got to make it to @Paducah Home Theater and experience Cory's newly finished listening rooms, can't wait to hear the C4's and H4's. I'm going to really be pushing it to try and make it to Memphis and meet up with @jimjimbo grab some dinner and a few drinks before calling it a day and getting some rest so I can get up early and try and make it to Hope by noon. Made it and it's time to get this gear out of the truck and set up in the Barn, wow, this is a really cool place, plenty of room and couldn't ask for nicer weather. There's @Dave A with the van, I'm going to help him unload those monster MWM's, they're freaking huge, can't wait to hear them. Looks like @Chris A is pulling in as well, more big freaking speakers, I'm going to holler at @babadono @USNRET @Seadog to get busy and help setup, I'm not doing all of this myself. Finally, there's @CECAA850 in his new ride, damn, look at all that booze! I hope he didn't change his mind about trading the LSI's so I better confirm before we get them hooked up. Where the hell is @rockhound, he lives closer than anyone else and he needs to get unloaded so we can run back to his house and load up the 942 rig. I need to find some straw bales before @Thaddeus Smith gets here and tell him that he's responsible for moving them, he's going to be pis$ed. Hey Dave @Mallette, what are you doing over there? Medicinal purposes my ***, I hope you brought enough to share. That must be @Rudy81 getting his ESS stack out, I'm going to ask him to put them on top of Carl's (soon to be mine) LSI bins, I really want to hear that combination. @Coytee isn't here yet, but I'm sure he had to stop quite a few times along the way for bathroom breaks. So many new people to meet @ZEUS121996, @WPS, @Trippigs, @Davis. What's going on Lyle @Rivernuggets, I finally opened up the RB61's and they were in perfect condition, exactly what I would expect from you. I hope when @ssh gets here he brings some of the cigars from last year, I think they were called Rare Air, really smooth for sure. Here comes @totalcomfort with the camper, I think he's staying onsite and will be the security officer at the barn for the weekend. @kirby those are some big freaking horns, can you get @CarlMay to give you a hand moving them in? Finally, music is playing, Carl's doing his thing shaking the hell out of vodka, Jerry's drinking a white claw, really, maybe I can find him a little pink umbrella to put in it. LOL, I think it's time to get a fire going and get a nice pour of Weller 12 and just listen for a while. Good Times. Just 18 days ago, that was still a possibility, wow, what a different reality we all face now. I hope all of you and your families get through this time safely and that i will see you all in September.

  29. Made some changes tonight. Still have to spend some time listening for any audible improvements. Since purchasing the Yamaha DSP from Claude, he and I have had a running dialogue about utilizing the AES/EBU input and reducing the amount of D/A to A/D to D/A conversions by having a digital source and an AVR in place ahead of the DSP. In practice, it doesn't seem to have much impact, but it's one of those things where it would be ideal if one could keep the signal entirely within the digital realm before that final D/A conversion to the amplification targets. I was overthinking it, especially when it came to volume control, of how to get audio from either a PC or my raspberry pi + spdif coax HAT and into the AES/EBU format. I was also chastising Rodney about an expensive music server that he ordered and it forced me to go take a look back at some Roon configuration options. This led me to look more seriously at HQPlayer as a companion application for across-the-board upsampling of my FLAC files in the software domain. It's actually fairly easy to configure Roon as the front end, sending the data to HQPlayer via bitstream, and then from HQPlayer over to the raspberry pi running ROPIEEE XL with the native HQPlayer network endpoint protocol. I can also still stream Spotify natively to the RopieeeXL. Keep up. Volume control was my primary need for a pre-amp, along with video splitting for movies and tv and so on. Roon/HQPlayer have volume control software functions, as does Spotify. Ok, then what about that pesky conversion of SPDIF coax to AES/EBU. After digging through old forums, it looks like SPDIF to AES is actually really simple and that it's the AES to SPDIF where you need some fairly particular attenuation to keep from frying your electronics. Otherwise, it's just a matter of an inline impedance adapter, or simply giving it a shot with an RCA to XLR cable. Which I have. I no longer use the AVR for DSP, subwoofer management, or channel levels. That's all living within the Yamaha DSP. It's now just a preamp with a DAC and a video switcher for sending sweet sweet 4k UHD (or lesser) video to my TV. All still a very important function. Keep keeping up. Then there's the issue of keeping things simple for the wife and kids. The AVR absolutely does that, but when it comes to music my wife only uses spotify through my primary media source - the NVIDIA Shield TV. I'm the only one who switches over to using the raspberry pi and Roon, with Ppotify also available on that device for my own convenience. So that means, that since I'm already manually switching to an input unknown to the family I can keep the raspberry pi directly connected to my Yamaha DSP's digital input, the AVR connected to the Yamaha's analogue inputs, and simply shift my input selection efforts from the AVR to the front panel of the Yamaha where it's just a couple of button clicks to change between analogue and digital inputs. So.. for movies and general family use I just run the Shield TV > Denon AVR > Yamaha > Amps, where there's a bunch of DAC and CAD conversion happening, but everything plays nice and is just fine for that type of content. Now.. when I want to go into Hi-Fi mode, my new signal chain is dramatically decreased to Roon > HQPlayer > RaspberryPI > Yamaha > Amps, where the first four layers remain entirely in the digital domain. Questions?

  36. The last picture with the laser light was one of an infinite number of multimedia productions that we have made for concerts, company events, product presentations, theme parks and also in-outdoor permanent installations. I have been doing this job for more than 20 years, travelling every year worldwide to trade fairs in North-South America, Europe and Asia. After a good 20 years of continuous traveling, I would get tired of this job, could not stand hotels, airports and airplanes anymore. In addition, the company was sold to a large electronics group in Germany and then branched out into individual companies. Then I decided to quit this job and change my career. That was the case about 10 years ago. The Showlaser company still exists today https://www.tarm.de/lasershow?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI28aTybfD6AIVihnTCh1BoQ5GEAAYASAAEgLUvvD_BwE
