  2. Scared me for a second. Don't feel bad we live about 5 miles from Steins Space center, not once have they called me, I have some good ideas about what they can shoot up in space or blow up, either way I got it covered.

  5. "As I’ve often stated in these articles, it is the production path that establishes the fidelity of the final master. Things like how a track was recorded, what processing was applied during recording and mixing, and how the tracks were ultimately mastered. If all of these things are done with maximizing fidelity as the primary goal, a great track will result. However, it’s very easy to destroy fidelity at any number of steps in the process." The continuation of the quote that Edgar stated above. What good is 24 bits over 16 bits of quantization if you're only using 6 of 'em And clipping the schiit out of it.

  8. All the doctors can do is line up the bones and add metal splints to hopefully keep them in line. You know, like when you have a small plant with a broken stem and you place a popsicle stick into the soil beside it, secure it with twist-ties and hope for the best. Doctors and scientists have not yet learned how to repair the spinal cord. I think the solution will not be a mechanical repair, but instead something that will cause regrowth to occur. There’s also the concept of installing a tiny bridge/scaffold that will support the spinal cord as it somehow grows across the gap between the side that still connects to the brain and the side that does not. As for orthopedic surgeons, I know mechanics and carpenters who work to finer tolerances. Ask anyone who’s had a broken femur if the legs are both the same length after the surgery. It’s very unlikely. Frank Zappa even mentioned that about the repairs to the leg that he broke when a “fan” pushed him off the stage, causing him to fall 20 feet onto the concrete floor of the orchestra pit of the music hall where the Mothers were playing. In the song Dancin’ Fool, Frank sang that: ”I don’t know much about dancin’, That’s why I got this song, One of my legs is is shorter than the other, And both my feets too long!” I don’t know about Frank’s shoe size, but the leg complaint was genuine.

  10. uh huh... off the top of the left eye socket. it was just waiting for me... oh... this job was full of learning opportunities. cold [looking] welds still sizzle when you grab one. when I look at the jobs I did, there was always an element of danger. Never had a desk job. First problem with that, I hate paperwork. I did have one desk job and it didn't involve paperwork. I worked for Bell Aerospace. Stop laughing.... "We" were [in hindsight] testing digital com.. They needed some monkeys that could read to punch a button if they could guess the word with various interferences... That was my job. I learned that you can daydream in less than 4 seconds... They were shooting words at us on 2 sec intervals... then switched to 4 sec. You can respond and think about after work before the 4 secs is up.

  11. Received an informative article written by Roy McCammon - Electrical/Electronics Engineer What do electrical engineers know that many audiophiles do not? We filter out the best electrons (seven sigma at least) and take them home for our own audio systems. After they get worn out we bring them back the factory and swap them out for new ones. You get the worn out electrons. This is much easier with solid state electronics. That’s why tubes sound better. A seven sigma electron is good for about 100 hours of use. That takes me several weeks. After 100 hours, it becomes a six sigma electron. We let management use those. We never told them that there was anything better. It takes 200 hours to become a five sigma electron 500 to become a four and so forth. Most people cannot tell the difference between a seven sigma electron and a four sigma electron, so we put four sigma electrons in most consumer audio. We round it out and say that those four sigma electrons will last about 1000 hours. So, don’t leave your solid state audio running when you are not listening to it. But if you accidentally let your’s run down, you don’t have to replace the whole system. This is the one case where speaker wires really make a difference. We use ion implantation to fill those special speaker cables with seven sigma electrons, so that you can refill your system just by swapping out the speaker wires every 1000 hours or so. We use gold plating on the wires to keep the seven sigma electrons in and keep common environmental electrons out. Those are typically crass one sigma electrons. But, not all gold plated speaker wire is implanted with seven sigma electrons. You should always buy certified gold plated seven sigma speaker wire. Look at this picture: Do you see that little notch in the end. That is an electron tunneling filter port that allows seven sigma electrons out and all lessor electrons in. Not every integrated circuit has a notch. Some of them have a dimple. Sometimes, the port is hard to see, but we know where to look. Edit: A question came up about class A versus class B. With regard to ordinary consumer and audiophile gear (which is so far below my expectations) I have no comment, because it depends too much on other factors and emotions. But if you have access to a supply of seven plus sigma electrons, the situation is different. As I explained, tubes sound better because we leave the seven sigma electrons in them. But the transistor amps I have at home sound better than tubes because I load them up with seven sigma (and even a few eight and nine sigma electrons). With so many seven plus sigma electrons, I get an inversion where there are more seven plus sigma electrons than there are six sigma electrons. If you then cool the transistors (dry ice temperature is cool enough) you can quantum entangle the electrons in two transistors, if the transistors start out identical enough and if they are used in an identical circuit. As it turns out, the entangled electrons are in anti-symmetry. When one is up the other is down. The transistors can be mode locked out of phase and such that they produce exactly complimentary outputs. This makes it possible to produce a perfect push-pull class B output stage.

  13. While things are somber around here with my mother in her final days... my brother and I have had some memories we've brought up that have kept the past weeks from being plain awful. Seen good stuff pass through here and My Collection?? From what I think I'm keeping I've had to put early 70s softer harmonic stuff in my reconfigured closet. Lots of Poco came with the last group, Steve Winwood that I do remember some other stuff too. Now in the rack I did get some YES that I did not have before, some Who, Wishbone Ash and more from Hawkwind I got to check out. A couple look possibly like they are blues too. early and repeat Floyd, a much more clean DSotM Great year for vinyl here, not so much for our family C'est la vie really fits with this week. RIP Charlie Daniels You will always be loved by many around here!!

Prospects of rain are slim and 100`+ good. The humidity bumped enough to notice. Thanks?!? Wife goes in for her other eye this week...Wed. She sailed thru the first one and doing well. We hope #2 is as easy. Saw news from the ol' stomping grounds made national news. Big party at DiamondLake in Cass Co, MI on the 4th. My BIL has a house on that lake... Not far from Elkhart...

  22. With Stereophile being the worst offender at spreading audio MARKETING BS...........I'm glad I chose to listen to PWK when I was 23 and joined the Audio Engineering Society, where the best people are doing true innovations. As an offshoot of that, there was a group called the Southeast Michigan Woofer and Tweeter Marching Society that INVENTED the AB/X box, and I was there for the initial demonstrations. This CLEARLY was a great tool to determine, with science and statistics, whether a DIFFERENCE could be heard between 2 components (usually amps, pre-amps, cables, etc.) but mostly they got criticism from the "golden ears" people that claimed they could hear a picoBEL drop across a relay contact!!! So over 4 decades ago, I became fully aware of the BS factor in the industry, which is worse than ever today.

  24. Way better. She said that before was like wearing sunglasses indoors. She drove herself to Tucson and back Fri/Sat. ...yeah, oxy and acetylene in a grocery bag will make a helluva pop. Calcium carbide give off acetylene when you add water. We used it to launch coffee cans into "space"... Can't do that anymore. Coffee cans don't open with a key.

  25. They are doing tracing, but the administration isn't telling everyone. Those who they know may have been in contact have certainly been notified, so they are working to find the source/path and let folks know. Our admin and medical staff have done pretty well so far. We have approx. 800 clients, so it has been a real imperative to keep them safe. They have done a good job so far, and other companies which work with us have been good as well. (had our internet provider check at one of our residential houses... they wore PPE while inside the house, not just masks) My wife is working at three of our houses, and has been tested, as they are testing everyone who meets with the clients.

  42. PS: Made mention to the wife about the golf course. She's been wanting to buy the back half of the farm and create a wedding reception place. The hill we're on is the highest in the county so when you're at the top, but for the trees, you have a commanding view up/down the lake. Would make for a nice reception hall (or 5 star restaurant)
