  1. IF ya like a bit of Keef's solo work ya just might enjoy this one. He works his magic... Main Offender is the second studio album by Keith Richards, released in 1992 between the Rolling Stones' Steel Wheels and Voodoo Lounge projects.

  2. If the wire falls out, it's too loose. If the binding post breaks off, it's too tight.

  3. When I got my Technics SL-1210M5G 12 years ago, I replaced the stock thin rubber mat with the thick Sorbothane Platter Matter platter mat that I got with my old SL-1400 Mk2 deck. The records almost stick to it, then I put on the Michell record clamp, and the LPs are held firmly in position for the stylus to read them, and any vibrations other than the ones going into the stylus are damped out. The mat is 5mm (3/16") thick, but it's easy to adjust the tonearm height on the SL-1200/1210 turntables, because the tonearm is on top of a wide threaded "jack" that lets you move the tone arm base/pivot up or down more than 6 mm, with clear index marks, so it's easy to note the setting and return to it if needed. A bit later, it allowed me to experiment with the VTA. I discovered that having the tonearm pivot height set so that the tonearm was just a bit above parallel gave the best bass/treble balance and best clarity on vocals. Having the thick and heavy mat also adds to the rotating mass of the platter, plus it reduces any possible ringing of the aluminum platter. I'm well pleased with it.

  5. My 19-year-old nephew came over yesterday to return the Heresy IIs that he'd borrowed for a party, and I had a chance to spin some tunes for him. First up was Side One of King Crimson's In The Court of The Crimson King, then the Outlaws' Green Grass and High Tides, then Side One of T. Rex's Electric Warrior. He found them pretty interesting. I've already got some music picked out for his next visit, plus he's welcome to bring any of his own music. As he was leaving, I recommended I'm An Adult Now, by The Pursuit of Happiness, a great Toronto band from the Eighties. I'm An Adult Now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVL4GTeLN68 That's odd. I tried to delete that video, to replace it with the version recorded on the sidewalk of Queen Street West in Toronto, but instead this same video appears a second time. The link will take you to the Queen West video, possibly the cheapest music video ever recorded, but it seems to be difficult to get it to post with its picture, like the videos above.

  6. Anyone have an Audiophile torque spec for those binding post? I am always afraid I am missing out on sound by over tightening or not tightening enough.

  7. But as cheap as 8 inches of wire is, why not just do it anyway? I'll further stir the pot and say that I have heard a difference when replacing the brass plates. 😱 Gold actually has a higher resistance than copper, but it won't tarnish as much.

  8. Not a dime's worth of difference. Do what works for you.

  9. Unlikely that wire would be better than bridge in this application. The bridge offers greater contact area for the binding posts, and the potential for greater cross-sectional area, too.

  10. Yup, same here, the new silicone mat grips the LP. I don't use a clamp on either table, the UTurn has an optional, solid acrylic platter, and the Rega has a solid GLASS platter of substantial weight. The Groove Tracer subplatter on the P6 is fully jewel bearing equipped, and I would rather not add any more weight upon those bearings then that, that is already upon them. I am thinking that a second purchase of a silicone mat may be all I need for the Rega. I will be giving my results from the Orbit vs. Rega TEST later this week, so stand by for that. Realize, that spending LOTS more money doesn't always yield better results!! Wait for it...........................................

  13. The Michell record clamp that I use (I got the “R” (REGA) model, which is made for REGA turntables with a short spindle. This was to allow the use of the thick Platter Matter mat, which leaves a reduced length of spindle exposed) is quite light, since it’s made of Delrin, a very hard plastic, not metal. I press down on it momentarily while I tighten it, so the platter bearing isn’t supporting a heavy load for all the time the clamp is on, which includes downtime, since the obvious place to store it is on the spindle. If a record weight is quite heavy, that load is on the bearing something like 24 hours a day, every day, except when records are changed or flipped. EDIT: I just weighed the Michell record clamp on my kitchen scale, and it weighs only 68 grams/2.4 ounces, so there will not be any undue wear caused on the TT’s bearing. As well, when I press down on the clamp with two fingertips before I tighten it, that load is not very high either.

  14. I also prefer a Record Clamp, because this presses through the tightening pressure the record really absolutely evenly flat on the platter. The heavy support weights press the plates from the inside out to the edge of the plate high so that there is a gradient from the outside to the inside. Most do not consider this and worsens the entire geometry. In addition, the high weight stresses the bearings of the platter. I am still hot on a copper plate from Micro Seiki ( this one isn´t the dqx 1000 from micro-seiki, this is the older ddx 1000 , without quartz control. That´s my record clamp The Thorens weight is one of the few support weights that distribute the weight more evenly through the substructure construction, so I have this one in use also.

  19. I don't think you would be true to yourself if you passed them up. After all, you are the only person I know who spent approx. $25,000 on his own twin sub design (M.A.U.L.) that kills everything else in the branded market or DIY. Those 942's are made just for you. Deep down, you KNOW you have to have them!

  20. Granted. Assume a 1mm x 5mm cross-section for the bridge, 50mm (2 inches) long. That's 5mm² cross-section, roughly equivalent to 10ga wire. Brass has a resistivity of 4.7e-8 Ωm, so working the math, the bridge will have a resistance of 0.00050 Ω. Copper has a resistivity of 1.7e-8 Ωm, so the 10ga wire will have a resistance of 0.00018 Ω. As PWK would say, "Not a dime's worth of difference." Add to that the better contact area of the bridge, and that 0.00032 Ω difference might very well be erased completely.

  21. My brother surprised me tonight. Called and then picked up some spicy food for me! So glad I have some Pepcid here. Sure you pepper-heads would recognize the seeds in the red salsa. The green is similar to the Herdez Hot Guacamole salsa except it is more hot also. No beef in the enchiladas, but I've got fresh tamales in the fridge for tomorrow along with the really good different to me guac! yep nothing but habs in the red stuff! Chunkiest guacamole I have ever had, great stuff! Have you ever had frijoles that had cocoa powder in them? yuk

  35. Hooks them EVERY time! My brother in law is Mr. Cool when it comes to anything and they're both tight with their money. He does love his rock n roll though. He was a 901 boy so there's that. 😂 He stopped one day and asked about sound w/his new big high dollar Sony TV he bought. He actually bought the "matching" Sony surround sound and had wired it up. Talkin up his high dollar theater system. So I invited him in. 😂 He came in and totally lost it when heard my LS. Took his Sony speakers back and bought an entire Klipsch system. Invited me over to hear it. hahaha As if... Maybe they'd break out the wine, cheese and crackers.. Quuiiittt iittttttt! 😂 😎

  36. I had a set of speakers with banana plug hole covers I could not get out from the top. I think they were pushed into too far to grab the edge. So, I made this tool out of a sturdy paper clip and used it to push them out from the back through the bare wire hole in the post.

  42. Guess it kinda starts here. Kinda like my lil shrine in here. lol Left is a first silk screen run from the Hendrix show @ the Fillmore East. Small spot upper left corner is how I justified keeping it. Stuck under another one in the stack before it was completely dry Can't stick that in a window looking like that what would people say? I mean this guy was a drug addict right?? Pffft.. Under that is an old handwritten backstage pass that started it all. Stones stuff? I was being clever when Covid hit so came up w/something my kids would laff about (hopefully) some day. The single is from the Stones website as is the cloth mask. Mount it all and frame it? Yea, I'm outta the box. Colored vinyl was used on the disc to differentiate on/line & record store sales. Yellow on one and green on the other. We all know Mick and his marketing. Do your research cause I forget which one's which. lol Above the turntable is a shot I took of Fee Waybill of the Tubes on their "In Thru The Outdoor" tour. She was up on a stack of bins and at the end of their last song always jumped down into his arms. First place the eye sees is her rump the rest just kinda tells the story. Planned that above the table and couldn't find it but just did so that's done. It gives me motivation to get up and flip any album that's on the table. Just have to remember what I'm doing staring or flipping. 😂

  44. Rigggghhhhhht... lol A friend's son was in Camaroon with the Peace Corps in 2016 and met this artist in the small village where he was stationed. When Max came back to the US he got a tube of his stuff sent to him from the artist. He had about 14 pieces and friends bought them then Max sent him the cash. Think I paid about $150 for this one. Hangs above a small desk my grandfather made years ago. Room for my laptop where his old typewriter sat. Laptop and mouse are thee w/a couple lil wooden draws full of junk. hahaha. I just lean back in my chair and laff everytime. Back to the roots of music. It's just me! lolol THE MORE YOU LOOK THE MORE YOU SEE!
