  3. Not to throw cold water on your plans, but just be aware that forte and chorus ii are going to need room for the passive to breathe so if your Lascala were taking up to much space I’m not sure that will improve with one of these two sitting further out in the floor. I own Chorus ii and love them, but you might need stick with Chorus I. Just something to think about. And yea, $1800 is too much!

  4. I did a bit more research on the wonderful recording quality of Bill Evans Trio's 'Waltz for Debby'. Together with 'Bill Evans Trio live at the Village Vanguard' and 'Explorations', it forms a trilogy. Like most, if not all Riverside albums, the recording is of the highest quality. The set became legendary because of its sound quality, and also because the bassist, Scott LaFarro, died 11 days later, in a car crash. You can buy a box with The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings, 1961 also, if you like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Complete_Village_Vanguard_Recordings,_1961 The recordings are lauded for their excellent quality: excellent bass, clarity, left/right channel separation etc. If you don't know it already, you should listen to it now! This is a live recording, and you can actually hear the people talk, drink and their glasses! Dave Jones was the recording engineer, and he is often credited for being responsible for 'some of the finest jazz recordings ever'. The weird thing is that after these recordings, he simply disappeared. Some say he became a worker for the National Post Service (!). He used good quality recording gear, and really good microphones, but the few pictures of him that exist, show a very messy setup! I found the pictures below HERE (Stephe Hoffman forum). The picture with the recording machines was uploaded by Chris Albertson, who also so took the picture. This was not at the Vilage Vanguard, btw. The second picture shows Bill Evans, with a member of the public in the foreground, whose glass plays a prominent role in the recording! And I just had to add this video too:

  5. I have a 100 watt tube PA head sitting in my living room at the moment. I think it uses 6550/KT88 for the output section. I’m planning on using it as an electric bass rig with the original pair of 4x10” vertical cabs.

  6. Do hope everyone's well or getting better now. Took a vacation from the pc, except for music. Holidays aren't the best for me lately so I just kept my merino base layer on because 60 at the thermostat is more like 57 everywhere else in this hundred year old place. Using hundred watt hybrids for the past while. With the gain up it's 200w into 4 ohms... but I've got 8 and split with the sub it is good. Don't need `em turned up more than halfway most of the time. https://www.amazon.com/Douk-Audio-Amplifier-Subwoofer-Full-Frequency/dp/B08R3QN896 They were cheap a couple years ago, but with better tubes they are real nice to the baby Klipsch.

  7. I've never really looked into tube amps. I'm just a touch young to have much recollection of them in my youth... and now... well... they are kinda, way kinda, out of my budget. ... and after spending 25 years in the backend of a bowling alley... I prolly could not tell the difference. Not unless it was a quantum better. My buddy and I were talking about life "in the pit".... and we could hear a machine getting sick from its sound... with 23 other machines running. Maybe I owe it to myself to hear some. I know just a place. They have/had a pair of LS, too. A small shop, that does repair on vintage SS and other... I assume tube stuff. They have some amps, speakers and tt's for sale. I don't quite know how to feel. Boy got me a little bottle of Maker'sMark and a fifth of Brother'sBond Bourbon for Christmas... I'm still working on last Christmas's WoodfordReserve. Now I have a choice...

  8. You won’t find one, but between Chorus II and Forte’s, I would pick the Chorus.

  9. That won’t be to hard to get the complete output Andre They only released 3 albums 1 in 1978 - Your copy UK and 2 in 1979 - Danger Money and the Live album Night After Night I have all 3 and all worth it 🤘

  13. What you said here is important , I agree completely , just to further emphasize , if ANY of the Lascala bass output is being passed to a subwoofer, great care must be taken to ensure that there is no loss of IMPACT , OUTPUT or QUALITY to what the Lascala was providing , we must be careful not to make negative compromise to the Lascala sound .This also applies to Klipschorn 🤓

  14. I use a toilet plunger, the type with the red rubber cup and screw in wooden handle. Un-screw the handle & poke a hole through where the handle was screwed into the center of cup. Place cup over dust cover and apply vacuum just enough to pop it out. I have done several whit no issue, YMMV

  15. When I bought my iFi Zen Phono amp, I had a similar bad experience with a malafide Dutch webside audio dealer. The amp was 'in stock' but as soon as I had paid, I received a message that it was no longer in stock and if I was willing to wait some weeks until back in stock. I declined, and lucky for me, they paid back instantly. I suspect there are 'virtual' shops on the internet with no stock at all. As soon as they sell an item, they start looking for it elsewhere, which may take a while, until they find it cheaper and make a profit. It's their business model...

  17. Adding to this thread as I just (mid-Dec. 2022) got a new pair of Hersey IV's (not Forte I know, but similar) and am pairing them with my Yamaha A-S1200 amp, CD-S1000 SACD player, 15" Definitive Technologies sub-woof and SMSL SU-9 DAC. I'm a few days in now and overall I'm happy with the speakers. Obviously they look great, I've already received a ton of "wow those look fantastic" type comments from friends. However, I'd be lying if I said I'm blown away by the sound, don't get me wrong, the sound is fantastic but you're clearly paying for much more than just the audio here. I've been tweaking the placement and toe-ing and generally think I've got them optionally positioned my my space. I came from a much less expensive pair of JBL Studio 570's and honestly (with the sub on for both) there isn't a huge difference in overall sound. The imaging and dynamics are a bit better with the Klipsch, possibly less fatiguing on the highs and more low end push. I rarely need to go past 9 o’clock (6:30 being silent) on the Yamaha. It gets loud very quickly! There is something super pleasing about watching those VU meters bounce and hearing the Hersey's rock the house. Additionally the fit and finish blows the doors off the cheaper JBLs (they probably should for 5x the price!) but I can't say enough about the build quality, it absolutely feels like a speaker that I'll hand down to my kids someday. FWIW the same holds true for the Yamaha amp, it's amazing. Just a hunch but I'd guess a pair of Polk R700's or JBL 590's would deliver a similar (or maybe better) sonic experience but they can't match up in the other aspects.. build, fit finish, aesthetics, and sheer cool factor (love the grills). So yeah.. the Klipsch + Yamaha A-S1200 are a good match.

  18. Merry Christmas @Islander have seen that you have it icecold and lot´s ( too much ) snow in Canada right now. Hope you´re fine so far. To answer your question ... Application: Hold the spray head vertically to the ear and spray into each ear one to two times. Leave the liquid on for 15 to 30 minutes. Massage the base of the ear for a few seconds, tilting the head to the side. The residual liquid can then run out more easily. I´m using it once a week .

  19. The turntable is driven by a DC servo motor with integrated tachogenerator which directly drives the turntable with the standard speeds 33 1/3 and 45 RPM . Obviously, the tachogenerator has to be readjusted to 45 RPM. You can open the motor unit from below as shown here,if you´re not experienced you better bring this wonderful TT to a technician to readjust the tachogenerator

  21. As part of a 5.1 setup,, I'm installing Pro-180RPW speakers in a 45-degree ceiling just above a 10 ft vertical wall for rear surrounds. There is no opportunity to place the speakers in the wall due to passageways interfering. The Pro-180RPWs are designed for infinite baffle. I have an aversion to having the speaker backside exposed to the extremes of a northern Indiana attic, so I am considering building a sealed box of approx 3 cubic feet interior space to lessen the exposure to temperature, humidity, dust bugs and critters. Also, the master bedroom is next door, so placing boxes over the speakers would help keep sound from traveling through the attic. The box would have rockwool blanket inside to help with temperature and acoustics. What do you think? Good thing? Waste of time? Positive or negative impact on sound? Thanks for any competent guidance.

  23. The corner out to about 4-4 1/2 feet actually makes the designed bass horn length. You will still have bass without the complete length but it will be rolling off. Roy can correct me if I am wrong, but that is how I understand it.

  24. I was just thinking ... When Khorns were designed, tube amps were about all there was Y/N? doesn't really matter. I was trying to envision a 100W tube amp.

  25. Well you are wrong, and you apparently don’t have the capacity to understand why. The designer of the speaker @Chief bonehead has already addressed this up above.

  26. Yep....you have to hear it to believe. I heard it in (what I think was) his old house. Three LaScalas across the front and the imaging was stunning. He was playing 2-channel and the center sound was absolutely locked in. I took it upon myself to walk towards the center speaker and as I got four feet away....three feet away.... the sound "it" was providing gently widened and dissappated to the right and left channels. I've never heard imaging as strong as this setup. As I recall, he might (did I say might?) have gone a bit bonkers on the room treatments but the reality was, it worked very well. I've owned LaScalas for a couple years (43)and never felt slighted by them however, I did always lust after a pair of Khorns which was my introduction to the family.

  29. I don't keep bees any more... but, am still interested. There has been a problem with colonies dying off for a number of years.... and nobody seems to know anything. I don't much believe in coincidence... genetically modified crops came into more widespread usage shortly before all this happened. They are calling it Colony Collapse Syndrome or something akin

  33. A three cubic ft internal volume is a fairly large volume for a 8 inch woofer playing down to only 52hz . (Relatively infinite)Drivers intended to operate in free air ,( like in wall speakers without boxes )need a driver that can compensate for the lack of damping that a box would provide ,and that’s what you have here. Your plan should be fine .🤓

I expect them back for some. gathered up some wood ... put some in the wheelbarrow ... and was coming back to the house when I came across a rattlesnake sunning. Little one. 3 rattles. I guess it hatched last year. It won't see its birthday. It had an unfortunate collision with a shovel. life in the desert

  40. Just finished prep on the roast. Poked holes and inserted garlic, covered all sides in Kerrygold Irish butter, Susie Q spice blend, garlic and Rosemary blend. Cut off the bone and tied at the butcher's shop. I do the 500 degree method for 30 minutes, turn off oven and do not open the door till 120 internal temp, rest for 30 min. Seems to work well.......

  42. Morning gang, Christmas Eve, -1°, just finished some eggs over easy, sweet potato hash browns, and chicken sausage. Now enjoying the French roast from Starbucks that was on sale at Costco for $13.99. Christmas tunes on the Cornwalls this morning. Speaking of cocktails, met a friend at a speakeasy this last week for a drink or two. Had a smoke old fashion that was smooth and nice to drink. For Christmas dinner I'll be firing the Big Green Egg up for some brisket and ham, having the family over, which hopefully results in us down at the bar in the basement with cocktails and music on the big rig.

  43. I think we're having venison. We are going shopping tomorrow. Told wife that I am not making an expedition of it. I want a couple strings of LEDs... to light the back of our pantry shelves. Some lite Christmas shopping. I'm not making it a life or death thing. If they don't have what I want... oh well.

She gets a 5 pound box of See's candy from California and I got a half gallon of Elijah Craig bourbon. Old CCC&C member minermark got us hooked on the See's when he gifted us a box. All the fixings have been purchased for both big meals so little left to do. Swanky the Norwich Terrier will get prime rib left overs. Winter is here and will be 19 by morning Christmas eve. Landscaping crew worked half a day landscaping by the hot tub deck. Looks good. Cheers........
