  1. I think we should leave any enforcement of the rules to the moderators. We should always be interested in helping somebody figure out a problem. It’s not like he’s here shilling. The sound you are describing is what one might hear with no tweeters, yet you said you changed the diaphragms out. You should start by double-checking that they are actually working.

  2. It looks like the OP has already been chased away. Blaming every speaker problem on third party capacitors is stupid. I like to wait until the speakers are actually working first before I blame the brand/type of caps, lol.

  3. @mark1101 Speaker Exchange (reconingspeakers.com) sells the factory part. Klipsch parts of course also has them, but you don’t get the instant turnaround. For the life of me I can’t figure why Klipsch doesn’t have an online store for most requested items.

  5. Interesting note. Mark Chatfield is going back on the road ASAP since Bob Seger retired. Mark is replacing Bruce Kulick from Grand Funk Railroad. 23 amazing years touring with a group that originated in Flint, MI. and has withstood the test of time for more than 50 years. Mark and Bruce are long time friends and GFR is doing a "Loco-Motion" tour this year. 23 years for Bruce and Mark's 40 year stint w/Bob? It's a zero brainer if ya think about it. Should be a great tour. The first of 40 tour stops will take place on Friday, January 12th at Ledyard, Connecticut’s Foxwood’s Casino. I remember Seger hitting Cbus at the old Sugar Shack and Mark was telling me one day he was gonna play lead for him. I told him to tell Bob that and he did. Seger told him if he could bring it to let him know. Funny cause he did it. 40 years with him and when Bob retired Mark went back and has been packing the house w/his old band "The Godz" here in Ohio. Then the phone rang. lol Trust me he can git it and will be a great add to GFR! Most sites are casino gigs but what better place to kick back and enjoy an evening? Check me out! Laced w/a few Seger hits ya better buckle up. Great ticket prices and a good time for sure!

  10. Could be a phase issue. The 76 khorns I purchased had the xovers wired out of phase. Sound was horrible until I caught that issue.

  16. Sooooo Nicky boy is retiring from Alabama? Word on the street anyway. Things that make ya go hmmmm? Who's gonna do the AFLAC commercials w/the duck? Saying he can't deal with the transfer portal or doesn't want to. Who knows? Saban's retirement wasn't a big surprise to me. He paid 18M for an ocean side estate in southern Florida in August. The only people that were truly shocked were the 21 recruits he just signed as the #2 recruiting class.

  19. A big thanks for letting me join the forum. Sadly my Father recently passed away and the family has been trying to decide what to do with all his beautiful stereo equipment. I have a set of Cornwalls that i believe he purchased new in 1976....CD-BR 7N289 and 7N290. They have actually sat unused probably since the mid 80's.....never opened up or modified.....completely original. I did hook them up to the Pioneer SA9100 a few weeks ago and they still sound beautiful to me. Am just looking for any feedback on them and what they might be worth . Thanks Chris

  20. My phone won't let me put one pic after another. It only lets me put the pic before the first one. This is the delivery. I've seen a picture of it installed just a few months ago. There is not as much of that lighter color in this stuff.

  22. The K-43 is going back into the LSI to resume its role as a great party speaker. Any time I have a woofer out, I carefully inspect and tighten the wire connections to the cabinet, use a leaf blower to remove any dust and I also replace the gasket tape on the cover panel.

  23. At the moment it is RF7II and the RC7 center, and the R112SW. It has been fine for some time. As an aside, I can't imagine why people have two subwoofers, just this one shakes the room. But, there is an opportunity and I could get an additional two RP-600m ii speakers. Then I'd have the 5.1 system. I've been trying to research, and on a rare occasion the RP-600m (or RP-600m ii) has been mentioned as rear speakers. One suggestion was from 001, with 73.3k posts (at that time) so I'm thinking they know what they're talking about. So I'm hoping an expert or two might help out.

  24. That is where they are out of stock. Did not tell me until I ordered it. Found it elsewhere so back on track.

  25. Welcome, I like that model, you did good. If it were me I would start with cleaning all the connections first, inside and out, I had the same problem with a speaker I got years ago. It's free and could possibly fix the problem ? If that don't fix it go from there to find the problem.

  26. Need to tread softly before speculation about those not here. M00N, a past example. Nothing quite like being labelled expired prematurely.

  27. I can confirm it. As far as I can tell, my old LaScala is one of the speakers I know that takes the most getting used to. It's a psycho-acoustic wonder. My speakers are well-rehearsed, nothing changes anymore. But when I put them away for two months to listen to my BBC speakers, for example, the first day back with the LaScala took some getting used to, to put it mildly, harsh, metallic violins, thin bass colored treble etc etc. The second day they sounded completely normal and from the third day on the sun rises and never sets again. I'm not saying that the topic starter has not legitimate reasons to check everything technically. BTW @GravityBored if you look, I have made threads on the capacitors and the autoformer of the AA Xover. You are brand new to the forum, so you may not know. But the original Klipsch capacitors, which are now available from JEM (see above in the technical section) will make your LaScala sound completely original again. You can also buy the original Autoformer again. The one in your third party crossover has different values and makes the midrange horn sound unnatural. Don't ask me why I know all this. BTW @OO1 had posted somewhere the real good diaphragms, because there are a lot of cheap bad copies around..

  29. Discussion of modified speakers and non-Klipsch components is, unfortunately, discouraged/prohibited on this forum. I suggest you pose this question on the “Klipsch Korner” forum on Audiokarma.

  31. I moved my C2's from the back of our minivan. S L O L W L Y slid them on to a 2 wheel cart with a bungie cord, one at a time. Up the front steps, turned boxes upside down and lifted off like @Stephen Buck and slid them on our wood floors with reversible furniture sliders: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/furniture-sliders,/k,/results.html?cid=327759&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=pkwcpc&track=psmsn&msclkid=9862a15a42a21507130fc4c55db7122b&utm_campaign=B_PKW_S_Headterms_[Home_Improvement]|327759&utm_term=furniture sliders&utm_content=Furniture Sliders

  32. Woohoo! It’s not the weigth per se it’s the width. Even out of the box it’s still hard to move alone esp on wood floor. We do a 2-hand press and lift method on both sides. You can certainly lift and flip up stairs in box if desperate just watch the shifting. Also if in original box open top, leave styrofoam in, flip then lift. You’re gonna love them. Hope they’re in good shape and working order.

  33. I am picking up on Friday! Hopefully I can dolly them up stairs... 90 lbs cabinets solo is tough to wrangle. I may need (will likely need) to ask a neighbor for help. I'm going to clear out a bunch of audio stuff I don't use anymore to justify these. Can't wait.

  35. The grills on my LS were also held on with velcro... I used a guitar pick (heavy) to go between the edge of the grill and cabinet. Pry loose. The grill shouldn't break. That's a steal at that price. Welcome to the forums.

  36. We’ve got a two hour delay for the kid’s school in the morning, possible cancelation if things get bad enough. I’m supposed to drive down the mountain to Statesville for a dept meeting on Wednesday, I guess I’ll see how things are by then. For said meeting, my boss messaged us today asking about suggestions for lunch. The Dominican girl that works for us and I both quickly piped up and suggested the local Mexican place. We quickly got another couple votes for the Mexican place the dept chat. At that point the boss dropped the link to order on DoorDash and told us to let him know what we wanted to order. Why choose Mexican food if you can’t sit around stuffing your face with chips and salsa while you wait for your food to be delivered hot and sizzling fresh to your table?

  38. The less “stuff” in the signal path the better, especially if the device is powered. As long as you can drive the amps to the levels you desire all is well. If a source has variable output, direct connection to the amps would be ideal. Maynard

  39. Good call! I disconnected the transformer and pulled it out then connected the xover directly to the input cup as you described. What a difference in efficiency/sensitivity/load on the amp - Aww Hell! It's much louder! Looking forward to ceiling mounting my 4 much like you did your 6.

  40. What is the general condition of them? In nice condition they are still demanding a premium. I see them regularly go for $2500 - $3000. Tweeter diaphragms are inexpensive. Dead squawker could certainly be a bad connection. Loosen and retighten all of the screws on the terminal strips. AL-3 would be the best network for that driver complement. Least expensive route would be to find some on eBay and recap them. I build new with OEM parts. Cost is $645.00 a pair.

  41. I don't think I'd describe either Edcor or Hammond as great output transformers... Good for the $ yes, but far from great! Great cost a lot more than that!

  42. Mullard. I had some branded as IEC. Tried them in a tube microphone, very 'pipe & slippers' warm.

  43. It is not possible to make such a recommendation. A particular tube will likely sound different in every piece of equipment in which it is used because of differences in operating parameters. Personally, I don’t believe in tube rolling but, if it’s important to you, you need to buy a number of different types and evaluate them yourself in your piece of equipment. Maynard

  45. I just bought a Rotel RB-1080 to go with my Yamaha receiver. Any recommendations for what brand of cables to use to connect the two? I want to get a good set of cables, but I'm not too familiar with about how much they cost. That being said, I probably don't want to spend more than $100 (pretax and S&H). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. A website link would also be helpful. Thanks

  46. How much are they asking for for the tweeter/horns? You could always buy a second if you are concerned

  47. Hell ****in' yeah!! That would be awesome, but you need to think bigger. How 'bout a 1500 Watt bash amplifier to make it seriously slam hard. I would fork over a paycheck for one!!
