  2. Hi all Klipsch fanatics, Anyone here wheelchair users? I push a wheelchair much of the time. Birth defects (spasticity and spina bifida, hip rotated out and bad clubfeet). Maybe my lack of a precision body makes me like precision HiFi gear much better. Your thoughts welcomed.

  3. The best metallized capacitor for the money is the ClarityCap ESA series. I wouldn't use anything less unless I was using it in a charge coupled application (DC biasing applied). Best sounding film and foil type is the Jupiter followed by the AudioCap PPT Theta. The Hovlands are back in a slightly different form, and I just ordered some for evaluation. If you're only going to do this once, save up your money and do it right.

  6. I have a friend from Croatia he has the same attitude, he is a very nice guy. He is marring a friend of my wife's, he cant believe the things she is buying for the wedding. He says we spend to much money on pointless things. I don't even try to talk to him about stereos, if its not small or practical he wants nothing to do with it. Except his car.

  7. At this point in time with the turmoil and atrocities there I think they would do anything to get out. My friend Nataliya is very refreshing in her attitude about things we take for granted. So....no I would not pay for a mail order bride but if she can get here on her own I would be willing to talk.

  8. Yes mail order bride is the way to go. Do you know people actually try to pay for those through PayPal. My buddies wife is the one the investigates purchase made over 10,000, and she catches people all the time.

  9. As the drywallers were finishing the room and paint, I found another pair of Cornwalls off of CL. The guy selling them had these same JBL horns on top of some Peavey bass bins and they sounded great. I decided to go find the same horns, since they seemed like they would fit nicely in the space on each side of the stage. I had already booked my first house concert in the new house, even though the basement wasn't finished. I decided at the last minute to put the flooring on the stage. I tried a couple old professional amps with the PA, but I wound up using a Rotel home theater amp, as it was the quietest compared to the old pro amps. I got a lot of compliments with the sound.

  10. Hey Kent, physical limitations are only part of the story. The rest of the story is guts, determination and imagination. Today, I was reading on AVS about a couple of guys that are blind building a mega train display with an audio system. Erik Weihenmayer did not let his physical disability stopping him from reaching the top of Mt. Everest.

  11. But a lovely novel. Five kids. Wow! Congratulations to all!To answer your question, the room is less than ideal. That's ok. The window treatments help, but it's very long and goes to 18 ft with an open hall on the second level. But it is not the main listening room. It's my family room where everyone enjoys. Actually, by that measure, it IS the main system. Anyway, That pic is a few years old and I've changed to something more period appropriate for my house: JBL Metregon and a vintage McIntosh MA 230 integrated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Some funny sounds occasionally erupting from my Paradigm 2200. Unfortunately, just sold my RW-12. Looking for a replacement to go with the Scala's. My budget is TIGHT! Any help or suggestions much appreciated. Thinking about BIC but know nothing about the mfg. Prefer an oak veneer but again, budget... 16. I'm convinced high humidity can cause these things to leak enough to trip. GFCI outlet in our case and in a garage. Tripping all the time when a cord is plugged up and its humid. Different cords do it too. Getting real tired of it. I'm gonna pull the GFCI outlet and toss it in the garbage. Installing a regular outlet feeding off a regular 15 amp circuit breaker. Problem will be solved. Now if I move a hot tub nearby I might rethink it.

  19. I want to actually tape out the size to get an idea before purchasing
    1 point
  20. I just don't like that idea. I mean, I understand it, especially if someone is flat broke - but consider: Most people will only do this once, so what is the point in half-assing it? You can't make a signal better, you can only make it worse. The signal leaves the amp - that right there is as good as it gets. If the downstream components corrupt the signal, the network isn't going to fix it. Most of us know that, so we ask a lot of questions about preamplifiers and amplifiers - and spend a good deal of money on them too. This full range signal then hits the network, where the signal is split up and gets sent to its respective driver. At this point we should quit using words like "crossover" and "network" - we should really be seeing these things for what they really are - filters. So, we have simple filters that really don't do much except tie the drivers together, and then we have complex filters - which correct for all manner of things. The preferred approach is left to the individual. The parts issue has become such a point of contention, for reasons that make no sense whatsoever. Build any piece of audio gear with cheap parts, and though it will be affordable and sound pretty decent - I think we're all smart enough to know that it won't sound as good as the higher priced stuff. Why? Why is the expensive stuff "expensive"? Like I say on my site - sometimes it's brand related, but people forget that the brand became "established" largely due to an established pattern of using high quality materials and superior workmanship. Capacitors, resistors and inductors aren't any different. The price point the part inhabits is mostly related to the materials and the amount of hassle that goes into making it. Some things seem overpriced, until you learn more about how they're made. Jupiter Flat Stacks are a good example, which are mostly made by hand. The advantage is that the film isn't put under any form of duress while being manufactured. Due to the amount of time and effort it takes to make these, combined with lackluster sales - Jupiter has decided to discontinue making them. A simply amazing product is going away, and in my world, it's like being told that BMW is going out of business. There is a real lack of consistency when it comes to this topic. We have all of these different parts, and they're all really quite different in many ways, and yet we are told by some that a single measurement has determined that they are "the same" - and so sound the same. Seriously, in what other world does that happen in? Amplifiers? Preamps? Cars? No, only on message boards. Reality is this: things that use different materials, or use them in a different way, and are built differently, WILL perform differently - and they will also not sound the same. Effective marketing requires that outlandish claims be made - you see it with everything. It's a shame that flooby dust and voodoo are such a big part of this hobby, but if you dig, the engineering behind the product is there. Try to remember that we are not average consumers. Average consumers don't have much interest in the engineering behind things, and the manufacturers of these various parts know this. I've spent countless hours on the phone running people down who will talk to me about their product, only to be told, "I would very much appreciate it if you kept that to yourself." A 2uF Dayton capacitor costs $1.48. It is an entry level metallized capacitor. The film is so thin that if you touch it and try to handle it, it immediately begins to tear. They sound okay - much better with DC biasing applied. A 2uF AudioCap PPT Theta costs $18.41. The Theta is a film and foil type. Construction is vastly different, which is reflected in the price. I don't want to hear how the price is what it is because it's an "audiophile" capacitor - because you will pay the same or more for a Vishay of the same type. ESR measurements won't be all that different, they will both be in the milliohms. Raise your hand if you think these two parts, which are made completely different - will sound the same? So, which do you really want handling the filtering duties between your amplifier and your drivers? When comparing capacitors of the same type, there are differences there as well. The Auricap XO and the Sonicap are both metallized capacitors. The Auricap XO is double wound (one of those things I'm not supposed to talk about). So, physically, they are significantly bigger than a Sonicap of the same value and voltage rating. Everything from the top down is different, including lead terminations. Think they sound the same? I wish people would exhibit some common sense with this stuff. A $2 cap is a $2 cap for a reason.

  23. Yes we come from the land of plenty yet there are more chronically discontent people here than you can shake a stick at. You just have to look at our stereo systems for example. Rarely are we content with the status quo. We think if we can just tweak this or upgrade that then we will be happy. I think the psychological term is dysthymia or chronic discontent. Nothing wrong with that as long as you can be happy while on your way to nirvana. Getting too deep here........ Getting back to Nataliya she told me her friend looks "like a model, will cook your meals, and clean your house and be the best companion you could want". My thoughts........she would probably split after she got citizenship.

  26. I guess I don't know for a fact but I thought you could buy just the horns from klipsch. Did you call them yet? No I guess that would be the best place to start. Last time I tried emailing them about home audio horns they didn't seem interested in selling them. i told you to call Klipsch. Gotta get to the cinema department. I've talked to a few guys in there all willing to sell me either a 510 or 402 horn. The cinema stuff is kind of hard to track down prices for. But I mean come on guys we all are on this forum a lot. It's not that hard to send a couple emails back and forth with cinequip. Then boom they are on the way to you. And beek you have to remember that Klipsch is trying to cater to all audiences and face it, the audiophile breed is slimming down. People want small stuff, mp3 stuff, headphones. Don't get me wrong I feel the exact same way about the new reference line and they are coming out with something in between current reference stuff and palladium. Although I'm betting pricing will be a bit stout for my Wallet. I will stick with my cinema gear to me that's where it at if you have a dedicated space. Living room, no freakin way! And I immediately worry about if they try to start making cinema gear for home that stuff will be compromised for sound and made prettier, then whammy! Price doubles. If I were anyone on here and thinking the cinema gear might be for me? I'd buy now before Klipsch changes stuff around. Large, "unattractive" black painted cabinets and fantastic drivers all equal great sound in a very affordable package. Just gotta have space for them. Do like ref did and put grills on them, build a top hat for them and grill that up too. Then they are nice enough for a living room if you don't mind small refrigerators.

  27. If one were looking for a new set of amplifiers, I would point them to the NOSValves VRDs without reservation. A bit of history on these: Time and time again, people were buying vintage tube amplifiers because they possessed all of the desired traits of amplifiers for Heritage - tube rectified, clear, sweet, powerful. There were lots of vintage options that fit the bill, but no doubt there were people who wanted a NEW solution. These amplifiers were designed as a "wish list" in amplifiers for Heritage - if one could draw it up custom in a single pair of full range amps, this is what we would do. Buy 'em and enjoy them for life without need or worry for upgrade, save for a few tubes if desired for finishing flavor preference. They are that good. A 30-50 year life cycle product, like the vintage predecessors, whose life can be extended with new caps for another 30 years. Nothing wrong with McIntosh either, but I prefer the early tube rectified stuff: MC30, MC60. MC225 is a good choice too in SS rectification. See also a Marantz 8B. These usually need rebuild, being as old as they are, and they benefit greatly from doing so with a well chosen parts package. The vintage amps tend to benefit more from top flight vintage tubes, as they aren't as simple as VRD's are - more stages to go through on vintage amps and therefore benefit from the best tubes. An MC30/60 pair well rebuilt with all the best vintage tubes are absolute sonic joys - but get yer wallets out to do it these days. Not as big of fan of the new Macs - all on complex circuit boards and have a tendency to need resistor replacement if power tubes flame out. Sound pretty good, though. There are also those who like the single ended triode approach, but those leave me wanting in the lower registers - bi-amping is necessary IMO. Owning VRDs and MC30 in a couple of different builds I see no reason to go through the process of building a bi-amp setup with triodes - in my view a complex solution to a simpler issue of choosing a very good two channel pair. There's no accounting for taste, however, so I'll never say never to an amp hunter because triodes do have their allure - but they also have limitations that the above listed do not have.

  28. Not me but my wifes niece had (has?) spina bifida when she was born. I remain astounded at what she's gone through over her life (around 24 years old) and yet she's got the heart & spirit of an angel. It's brought a bit of sensitivity to me when I see someone park in a handicap space (with no sticker).... I'll try to make a polite comment to them that those spaces are needed, especially when they take the wider spaces where a van with a lift is supposed to go. Her family has a van with a side lift and if that extra wide space isn't available (sometimes taken by someone WITH a handicap sticker in a regular car) it can make her process very difficult even to the point of loading/unloading her "in traffic" and then pulling the vehicle into the standard spot.

  29. It's all about position at this stage. Depending on your room layout, purpose-built surrounds will be able to be more accurately positioned, so as to gain a more convincing surround effect. I have three of the KPT250's that I hope to install one day. Build that 5th, use three across the front, and sell me the other two, mmk?

  31. SIGH! Perhaps if all you MASTER ELECTRICIANS lived in my town and would actually respond to phone calls and emails instead of being asses on a forum I might have had this fixed by now. I realize this is a holiday weekend and folks are not at work....COOL, I am good with that. On the other hand, I can read a meter and would like to be able to tell the MASTER ELECTRICIAN what I know about the situation. Read the thread, I have mentioned a couple of times that I need a MASTER ELECTRICIAN. Get the F over yourself! Remind me of this thread next time you need an annual or hundred hour on your airplane, I'll be sure to jump right on it.

Personally, i’ve not had a problem; but, then again, I’m wearing silver & black.

  41. These are great stories and pictures. My daughter drools over our systems when she comes to visit and grew up with great sound. Right now her husband is overseas in the military, but should be back in the states within a year or so. I've set aside enough Klipsch and electronics to get 'em started with a fine system as soon as they are stateside again and can't wait to give it to them!

  42. Our Grandson, standing by the Klipsch museum in Hope, also sitting on the door to the Anechoic chamber. This was in 2010, he is 14 now. He has been to three pilgrimages and two klipsch tours of the plant, one of our Granddaughters has been to one Pilgrimage also. They all listen to music, whether they want to or not but they love it. My daughter came inside and got me the other day and said come see quick, Rylee who is 8 was sitting outside singing "get up stand up, stand up for your rights" Her bigger sister Allie 13 loves Bob Marley and reggae music, don't know where they got that from ? All of our kids and now there kids have grown up with music since they were born, I don't care if they get into audio as long as they get into music.

  43. The pair (77 Cornwalls) I recently purchased came with paperwork that indicates Klipsch supplied the owner with an upgrade kit (to "B-2" from "B") and printed instructions for the upgrade. The number 2 was scratched into the space after the "B" on the metal label which looks odd. Never-the-less, I ordered new Crites crossovers which I still need to install, and am anxious to. Have to wait till I get back to Arizona in a couple of months though. I'm looking forward to an even better listening experience which part of me finds hard to imagine, but will anxiously await. I kind of like it that Klipsch at least used to (don't have current experience) work with customers so well. I remember in the 80's, needing a new woofer for my Heresy's after a dog, or kid got to it. They just sent me one, no muss, no fuss.

  44. Finally getting replacements through Bob. On closer inspection they are labelled "B" in the traditional red print label on the crossover but more faintly they have been embossed with 2T after the B and this is also handwritten on the label on the back of the cabinet. I noticed elsewhere on this site that another member in 2002 had the same thing but the community could not resolve the issue. I'm here to say he was not alone, a B2-T it is! T for transition maybe?
