  2. That's very thoughtful or you to hold off until the weekend for us poor un-retired bastids. It's only Thursday, but is TNF an acceptable excuse? Here's another great BM recipe... Tomato juice, Zing Zang, worcestershire, horseradish, pickle juice, pepperoncini juice, stuffed olives, pearl onions, beef stick, celery, asparagus, bacon salt rim, celery salt, salt, pepper, burger w , cheese, bacon, pickle, shrimp,lemon/lime slice, pepperoncinis, Tabasco and Cilanto vodka, and of course a on the side. Been buying Hot & Spicy V8 in cans for the last few years. Convenient (1 can makes 2 BM's) and way less sodium then the ridiculously high off the shelf Bloody Mary Mixes. I can't drink that crap anymore. The other big improvement was going with a squeezed lemon slice instead of a lime slice, but just personal preference. In Cheesehead WI land they typically add a large cheese stick.

  4. Oh they're loading their high price oxygen free Monster bullets into their carbon fiber high performance low harmonic distortion gun. They are making sure that at no time static from the carpet interferes with the signal and clarity of the shot. It takes time to fire this shot into your backside. And now without further ado.... wait for it...

  5. Going to go out and just say it, what a clown......... All of that and not even room for another person to sit, not one friend of partner who may want to share ? Wires lifted by wooden blocks, your own wires are no good touching the carpet George ? A turntable that looks like something broken off the mars shuttle and a Lp that's warped and moving up and down. And be sure to hold the dog for the video and close your eyes and think how impressed you are. SORRY I feel better now, this is what I get for reading those stupid websites with reviewers pushing BS "improvements" like $40 receptacles and special cover plates, oil rubbed rosewood wire lifters, if your setup is to the point that this is your last improvement, congratulations, but I need to stay away from this level of silliness. Anyway he obviously needs more lifters there sagging to much in between, it will create lulls in the signal, only makes sense really, you would think George would know that ? Edit............thought someone would have shot me in the back side for this by now........

  6. Forum peeps get first peeks. This is a web app that fills a need we've long had - a way to suggest certain systems (5.1 mainly) based on just a few questions being asked. It is not a "be all, end all" or "last word" thing. It is merely meant to steer prospective customers in a certain direction. that said, there was some science that went into this. It will be updated as new products are released. Please check it out! Also as with any new application, there may be bugs. Feel free to let me know about them. http://selector.klipsch.com Thanks!

  9. Welcome to the forum! You might post location and see if there's someone close to you with a reference set up that you could hear. No matter how many opinions you get, none of them will be as valid as the opinion of your own ears. People like different things, it's as simple as that. I have Heritage and Reference. I like them both but they have a completely different sound from each other. Try to line up some auditions.

  14. I own a pair of Belles with refreshed AA crossovers (Crites kits). They are incredible at low input levels.....I have driven my Belles with a 5 watt Chinese tube amp....So, having said that, there are a bunch of questions to be asked... XX- Before getting to the list below...are you sure all of the drivers are working properly, and the speaker wiring is correct? 1. What are your listening space dimensions and properties? (Carpet, flooring, furniture, wall construction, ceiling construction, any acoustic treatment) 2. Where do you have the Belles situated in reference to the rear walls, side walls? 3. What are your listening parameters? (How far apart are the Belles, how far are you from the speakers?) 4. What kind of music are you testing them with? 5. Using any kind of room correction? 6. Are they properly configured through your processor? (small, large, etc?) Have you tried test tones through them? Probably lots more questions to come, but this might be a good start to help you.

  15. For those from Oklahoma it's the "Okie Pokey." not to be confused with that party dance hit, the Hokey Pokey … “put your left channel in, put your left channel out …" "put your center channel in.... and you shake it all about....."

  17. Once again I am the oddball, I can't stand naps I feel like I'm missing something and it messes me up the rest of the day, I never take one, well unless I am really sick . Nap Taking 101: Turn on oscillating fan, remove shoes and socks, elevate feet, cover yourself with a light quilt (if fan is making it cold), put on your favorite "relaxing" music over your Klipsch speakers, close eyes, now think about what you want to eat and drink after you catch some winks. Remember you are not missing anything. If indeed you do, your wife will remind you what needs to be done. Don't wait until you are sick to enjoy this pleasure.....

  18. Yes, that's exactly what I'm suggesting. I made a thread about it when I first joined the forum, I called the speakers "mini" Chorus II's. I've always loved the Chorus II's and have tried out a lot of the different Klipsch speakers including the Forte I & II, Quartet, original Chorus, Cornwall, KLF-30's and always end up back at the Chorus II. After selling my last set of Chorus II's (because of a move) I ended up with a set of Klipsch KP-250 II's. I was really impressed with them as to me they were the closest thing I'd heard to the Chorus II's just without the bass slam. So I started thinking about building a custom set of speakers using the K-61 mid horn with the K-42 in a larger, properly tuned cabinet to extract the most bass possible out of the 12" woofer and just use the Chorus II crossover and tweeter. Long story short I picked up a pair of Forte II's for $150 locally and as I sat there looking at them I realized they were perfect for my mod as they already had the proper mid horn and the Chorus II terminal cup with crossover was a straight swap out. I later found out that the tweeters are also the same, just without the ferrofluid. I put them together and man do they sound great. And like Moray said, nice easy swap that can be changed out if you don't like it.

  19. I finally have some time to refresh my Forte II’s, but am reluctant. Is there a minority opinion on this? Does anyone here prefer them(or Choruses, or Quartets) stock? If so, what are your reasons? Thanks Serge

  24. You're 100% correct in that thinking--those things may very well be what led him to do this. Like you, I don't know what I'd do; but, I'd hope I wouldn't do it. Even if I came to America and got the cure--how horrible would the rest of my life be knowing that i spread it others...some that didn't make it. That's a fate worse than death in my opinion.

  25. See that's where it gets sticky. As an example, you might get 95% of the performance you are looking for (insert any sport, hobby, pastime) for XXX dollars. However, that last 5% is going to cost you dearly. Now it's up to the consumer to decide if that elusive 5% is worth the cash outlay, or if he is completely happy with the 95% he has already achieved. I have heard preamps up to 8K that didn't sound as good as mine. But I did hear one at 8K that was better than mine, but the margin was so small as to make me unwilling to spend the money for that marginal performance. Another listener would just have to have that little extra and be willing to shell out the $$ for it. So bottom line is, it's only worth what you are willing to pay. What we perceive as minute differences still exist as a difference. You would spend no more than 65.00 to wire your system. My limit is probably 500-1000 dollars for speaker cables. I once heard a power cord that cost 300.00 (mid-90s) that sounded so good that I immediately ordered one the next day for my power amp. Ten years later I heard a different power cord that made an even bigger improvement. This time the cost was 2K. I had to say no to that one. Shakey

  26. Solid advice. I used to like the sound of Heritage, just didn't care for the "old school" look of them. As you can see from my Avatar, things are beginning to change for me but I still have my RF-7ii as a 2ch setup and love the sound of them. As mentioned, see what you can find locally on Craigslist and go listen to as many setups as you can.

  29. Got my first issues of Stereophile and The Absolute Sound last week, and, I won't be renewing my subscriptions. IMHO, the only content worth reading were the reviews of recently released music, or re-releases. The remainder of the issues seemed to be nothing more than showcases ("Come on down!!") for manufacturers of "high end" equipment. $200,000 turntable (really), $90,000 pre-amp, $2,000 headphone amp....and on, and on, and on..........I honestly didn't know what to expect when I ordered the subscriptions, so now I know I guess....

  30. I think the bottom line for most of us, certainly me anyway, is that we want what we hear to "Sound Good" to us! I was addressing earlier the subject questioning the death of analog which implies a life span. Not just the life span in regards to how many people use a given format but life span concerning how long any given music is even available. More often than I'd like, I run into the issue of not being able to find an album in a digital format. I could try to find the record but that is not always easy. If it is never copied to new formats on new media it might eventually be lost... or at the least unavailable to most. Anyway, I feel bad for anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to hear an excellent recording on a good vinyl setup where they were totally immersed and mesmerized by great music. I've had this experience with digital as well. Isn't your enjoyment of the music what matters?

  32. Analog hit the evolutionary brick wall, while digital is evolving and getting better. I am always amazed how good a well produced record can sound, but the limitations are there and can't be gotten around. There is a clarity on good digital recordings that no turntable will ever be able to produce. There is a lot of blasting of digital formats, but are MP3 files really inferior to 8 track tape? Both formats have their garbage versions. The standard for great digital sound is now 24/96 and 24/196. There are sounds present in those recording that will not come across on a record. I have no plans to sell my turntable and part with my records, and I am very willing to pick up used records. But to expect a new record to equal or best a digital version of the same recording in wishful and romantic thinking.

  33. I wondered about some kind of adverse 'Sonic Quality' or other electrical condition. Won't be storing the Supra this way once it's installed just to be sure. Ha! You should have seen the jumbled mess before! Again, will eliminate once replaced. Yes it is. Pulled away a few inches so no bad dreams. Autocalibration? Is that's something an amp does does? Using a Scott 299 Gen2 just refurbed by Craig/NOS (great).

  34. What operations do you go through to distinguish between a real effect and placebo effect? No "operations". I just use my ears. I bet that if most people in here sat down in front of a system that is set up properly in a well treated room and really pay attention, they could hear the differences better cables, tweaks, etc. impart. Now some would deny it to the end and go down with the ship, not unlike the staunch supporters of our fine president. I'm not throwing stones here. If you can't hear it, don't buy it. But don't make fun of people who do hear an improvement. I don't claim to hear the effects of some tweaks either, so I don't bother to use them. But as for better power cords, speaker cables and interconnects, count me in. And looking at some system pics from most internet forums, it's no wonder people poo poo these things. Speakers haphazardly placed, components stacked on top of each other, big honking screens between speakers. And I am not pointing the finger at anyone here, I see it on some of the hated "audiophile" forums that you guys make fun of too. Those aren't the systems you will resolve these differences with. Just ain't happenin'. So what I am saying is that there are two sides to every coin. Hell, a couple of years ago you would have had a hard time convincing me a Klipsch speaker could truly be musical. Now I am a true believer. So keep an open mind to what's possible. Shakey

  36. They're good little speakers. Same 8" woofer as in all other Klipsch 8" pro, K-8. K-76 tweeter as used in Heresy II, Quartet, and several Tangent models.

  37. Also, you cannot expect chest pounding bass out of the Belles. They have good bass, but were designed to only go down to 54hz. In two channel with Belles or La Scalas, I am not a 2 channel purist . . . I always go 2.1 on go with a sub for the lows . . . The Belles shine with the mids and highs. The other speakers you mention in your first post are capable of lower bass: KLF 20s of down to 34hz, KlF10s go down to 32hz, the KG3.5s play down to 36hz, and KG4.5 go down to 36hz. Make sure you are running your Belles set to "Large" on your AVR on a 2 channel setup without a sub to experience their full range. If you are comparing those speakers to your Belles and playing low bass heavy music, expecting the Belles to bang out the same low bass notes, that could be the source of your displeasure. Add in a sub in a 2.1 configuration with your Belles and see if that makes them more sonically pleasing. I know it does for me, but I like bass heavy music with the incredible mid and high clarity of the Belles. +1 on Jimjimbo's checklist above.

  42. Well that didn't hurt, guess my wife has toughened it up over the years with all her shots ? I apologize, I had no idea about that distortions gun , I'm just old time I guess. It is very nice equipment it just get's me going when I see things like cable lifts and a fancy turntable playing a warped record. 40 years ago I kept my Lp's in old wooden crates like milk crates and they were straighter than that.

  46. They're still in pieces guys, but I'll get some photos up this weekend for ya. Jim will have first dibs on a BG top and the metal trimmed LF bin. There is one other BG top, two painted tops, the three remaining LF bottoms are of the 'older style' but still are structurally in great shape. If you'd like to do painting/trim sanding yourselves, I can leave them torn down and save you that labor. It took the better part of an afternoon to pull apart all 8 cabinets, but a labor of love I can tell you!

  48. I'd recommend replacing the stock crossovers with Chorus II crossovers and the woofers with the K-42's. The woofers seem to need a little more power than the stock ones but you'll be blown away by the difference this makes.
