  1. Gary....I understand where you are coming from but if I had to guess, the vast majority of sales is in the Reference Line or maybe that's one of the more profitable lines for Klipsch. They probably could add the other lines but they would have to include questions like: "Does your wife care how big they are?" "Do you prefer Modern or Old School" "Are your pockets shallow or deep?"

  4. Better yet, install VirtualBox on Linux and you can run Windows on Linux and use both of them at the same time if you choose. Some days you need Linux, others Windows, and, of course, there are the days you need a Mac; all have their strengths and weaknesses. Then you can get crazy and use your virtual machines to run alternate operating systems that I suppose most have never heard of before: Haiku, ReactOS, MenuetOS, or Aros (for the Amiga fans.) There are others as well.

  5. I just listened to two new releases of OLD albums I own in MULTIPLE formats. I just received (last night) Yes- Close to the Edge and The Yes Album in Blu ray Audio... I own both Albums, in Vinyl... I own both Albums on CD... I also Own Close to the Edge on Half Speed Master Vinyl and SACD... in addition I own The Yes Album on SACD. ALL OF THOSE FORMATS are no where near what Blu ray audio uncompressed has delivered... Pure Nirvana. The presence, the presentation, the separation are all light years ahead of any of those older formats. both those releases are stunning.

  6. Personally, I am disgusted that this person made it into the U.S. from Liberia. WHY haven't we - our government - on the advice of the CDC - closed our borders to any person or flight originating from these infected countries? Perhaps because the CDC hasn't made such a recommendation?? WHY NOT? Why has THIS president decided that it is better to keep people coming into the country and risk losing millions of Americans than to screen out anybody coming from these infected countries? Seriously WTF is going on when we must be subjected to such blatant incompetence and we can't comment on it without being labeled a racist? This is shaping up to be the WORST 8 YEARS IN THE HISTORY OF THE COUNTRY. /rant

  7. Kind of doubt this was his thinking as he went to the hospital 2 days b-4 he was ultimately admitted, was sent home with antibiotics. If he had any notion he may have had Ebola and made this trip to be cured. I am sure all he would have had to do was tell hospital staff " Hey I just left Liberia and I think I am suffering from Ebola" In your scenario if he were willing to travel here illegally to get healthcare he would certainly do everything he could to be admitted and cared for I personally hold the view that healthcare in the U.S. is overwhelmingly great, However I also hold the belief that the powers that be will not produce all the facts and will lie like hell if they think it will keep the public silent and calm, I also believe that health care persons can not possibly know everything there is to know about a virus if they have no cure (for if you knew all there is to know then you could certainly cure it) I recall CDC stating a dentist could not contract HIV from a patient, shortly thereafter a dentist contracted HIV Go Figure There are ways to come into contact with bodily fluids that dont involve direct contact with another human, say I have a cut I rub then i touch a door knob a couple minutes later you touch that knob and then pick your nose, or touch an open cut of your own. Your job has you cleaning bathrooms and someone left you a mess on the toilet or floor and an open sore on your arm comes in contact with.............hundreds of possible variables I truly hope everyone gets better and they can stop the spread here and in Africa 3000 us troops heading to Africa to help stop the spread, Not sure I fully understand this move, they say it is to build shelters for the sick, I suppose the people already there can not erect gp medium tents and set up cots.........they were good enough for me while I served, seems like an un needed risk of US Troops I digress

  11. Got this in finally this morning. I bought this from a guy in NC who had had Craig at NOS Valves rework it in June of 2011. Its a nice looking little unit, in remarkable shape for something built in 1961. She's very much alive and sounds sweet. I've been playing this for a couple hours now through the living room system. Damn it sounds good! I've got my Marantz cd player going through my Jolida DAC into The Fisher feeding the RF82-II's. At 3 on the volume knob its as loud as I need. This thing has an interesting assortment of tubes too. The output tubes are the only current production present, a matched quad of Sovtek EL84 Craig provided. The rectifier is a Fisher branded Mullard GZ34. There are two tubes in the front that I'm not sure their function. They're a pair of NOS 7247's by Ei in Yugoslavia (former obviously) Now, the preamp tubes in this I believe to be original to the amp, and they're good ones. All I'll say is that I'm very, very pleased with this little Fisher amp. Its going to stay in the front room for awhile. Note to add: I had intended to post this last night but got side tracked.

  12. Hey everyone! I bought these speakers on this forum about 4 years ago and looking to sell them back to another Klipsch lover. These speakers have been great and have had zero issues. They don't have any scratches or tears in the cones. The only reason I'm selling them is that they don't fit in my livingroom (issues of having to place a tv in the corner). All well! Looking to get $250 for both speakers and shipping should run about $40-50. Let me know if you want them!

  17. Some of the pulse waves is the movie are off the hook. Did you see Godzilla, it has some excellent pulse waves to tingle your eardrums. TAOE is a bass flick like Tron Legacy but with more continuous bass. If you like loud then it has it. The movie need a bit more dynamic range for me. I would like to see a graph to see how much clipping was in the movie.

  19. Slammed with work here, but a torrent is nopt needed. Just download the dvd directly from one of the mirror sites. Download a MD5sum checker and run it. Burn the iso to a DVD (I screwed this one up at first) and then run from the dvd. When you install, plug an ethernet cable in to the laptop and everything should work (meaning it will download the right drivers for all of your hardware). I forget how, but the wireless is an easy fix. No time now, but there is a program already loaded that will fix this (I think).

  25. "If so what would you suggest the resistance be for this fuse?" Change the crossover to 18dB/oct (like the Klipschorn, LaScala, etc) first, then add a 211-2 lightbulb. The driver is failing from mechanical damage from excessive excursion, not excessive heat.

  26. a light bulb would be much more effective than a fuse much faster than a fuse and sounds better. Best regards Moray James

  28. Your right but I think they said it asked if they were in contact or around anyone sick in x amount of days, or something like that. But it's still just a form which anyone can answer however they want, like this guy. this is going to get bad fast I would think, now there are many out there who have no idea if they have been around anyone who is sick and some have. Reminds me of the 1995 movie outbreak.

  29. OK........ I've looked around for the tags & original reciept & can not find them.......yet......... The pics are ok at best as it's hard to get good light where they are.......no room at home, but maybe I could take them out into the parking lot or something, if need be.......... The stickers are me wanting a place ton save them out of the fray at the time...... They can fairly easily go, as the finish ain't all that good & would need to get re-done anyway........

  30. As one hard headed Texan to another your problem with digital kind of flies in the face of your superior format don't you think. I to this day never have that residual toe tapping, continuing to sing after the fact with digital that analog has always given me and that includes tape. I have oh so missed cassette in my cars for years now

  31. to some, it may be the best they've heard. to some, it may be good enough. I'll use myself as an example. I recently wanted a nice car. I bought a BMW 528...not the best car available and the guy in the Bentley may look down on me; but, it's still a luxury car and i'm happy with it. Perhaps some view music gear the same way. My ex would have been completely happy listening to music from the clock-radio (but she let me buy Klipsch and then more Klipsch).

  32. I think the bottom line for most of us, certainly me anyway, is that we want what we hear to "Sound Good" to us! I was addressing earlier the subject questioning the death of analog which implies a life span. Not just the life span in regards to how many people use a given format but life span concerning how long any given music is even available. More often than I'd like, I run into the issue of not being able to find an album in a digital format. I could try to find the record but that is not always easy. If it is never copied to new formats on new media it might eventually be lost... or at the least unavailable to most. Anyway, I feel bad for anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to hear an excellent recording on a good vinyl setup where they were totally immersed and mesmerized by great music. I've had this experience with digital as well. Isn't your enjoyment of the music what matters?

  33. "Is it live or is it Memorex?"...it was Memorex, it was always Memorex - we all knew and still know it. We just close our eyes and believe. If you think its hard recreating a chamber orchestra in your listening room, go see a chamber orchestra and try to make it sound like your listening room.

  34. That's very thoughtful or you to hold off until the weekend for us poor un-retired bastids. It's only Thursday, but is TNF an acceptable excuse? Here's another great BM recipe... Tomato juice, Zing Zang, worcestershire, horseradish, pickle juice, pepperoncini juice, stuffed olives, pearl onions, beef stick, celery, asparagus, bacon salt rim, celery salt, salt, pepper, burger w , cheese, bacon, pickle, shrimp,lemon/lime slice, pepperoncinis, Tabasco and Cilanto vodka, and of course a on the side. Been buying Hot & Spicy V8 in cans for the last few years. Convenient (1 can makes 2 BM's) and way less sodium then the ridiculously high off the shelf Bloody Mary Mixes. I can't drink that crap anymore. The other big improvement was going with a squeezed lemon slice instead of a lime slice, but just personal preference. In Cheesehead WI land they typically add a large cheese stick.

  36. On my system, TRON Legacy was like that too. Powerful sounding, but really harsh at times, and the sub sounding like it's gonna bust a seam. It's a red flag for a clipped audio track, which as of late, I've been running across a lot of DTS-Master soundtracks exhibiting. Try AVS forum to see if anyone has run it through an analyzer program yet. Considering the film's target audience, I'd wouldn't doubt it one bit.

  38. Transformers, Age of Extinction; The cast of characters has changed. Shia Leboeuf is gone and in comes Marky, Mark. Good cinematography, lots of ULF effect but, not the best use of it that I have seen this year. This one is worth a rental for Transformer fans. This was a summer blockbuster so it is a long, long, movie, lol.

  39. .Back on topic. Vinyls are certainly not dead, far from it. It's everything else that's doomed. Cd's are about dead, cassettes are dead, RTR is on life support, 8 tracts are dead, and several digital formats are dead. Digital? You bet! Remember floppies? Still got all your music on the large ones, or maybe a few cuts on the small ones? Try finding something to play that on. How about ATA hard drives? Most computers these days, you have a choice, either a dvd player or a ATA drive because there are not enough slots for both, because everybody went to SATA. MP3's are a dinosaur. Now that digital space for the purposes of storage is darn well infinite, their day is done. They were designed to shrink space and they did a horrible job of it. DVD-A. SACD. Nonstarters as a mass medium whit little content. HD? For how Long? Remember Dolby? BluRay? For Music? DAC's? What will they be replaced with? How about The Cloud? Which one and for how long. What happens when industry consolidation or a bankruptcy leaves millions and billions and Tera bits of music vanishing into the netherworld, a simple key stroke from a programmer, or hell, some drone functionary, rendering all those tunes gone, gone, gone. Oh yes, the digital realm is such a safe place to put important things. Like a bank vault made of swiss cheese. Whistle while ye may, because after your zeros and ones all disappear, you'll have to entertain yourself by whistling, whilst I spin a platter.

  41. I think some of the compressed music is made that way because: The "powers that be" realize that most people who buy music do not own a system capable of reproducing a recording with full dynamic range. It sounds better on the radio when compressed. Some genres of music sound better when slammed. The record company execs are idiots.

  42. I know most users know how to calculate an auto-transformer for speaker atteunation based on the voltage/turn ratio and tapping the winding, etc... I thought someone might need to wind his own atteunation auto-trans so I'll explain how to do that. you need 57EI lamination and a bobbin. about 60 feet AWG#19 wire. this is how you should start: Tap 0 (-) |||||||||||| 38 turns |||||||||||| Tap 1 (-12db) |||||||||||| 16 turns |||||||||||| Tap 2 (-9db) |||||||||||| 22 turns |||||||||||| Tap 3 (-6db) |||||||||||| 27 turns |||||||||||| Tap 4 (-3db) |||||||||||| 49 turns |||||||||||| Tap 5 (+) important: all interleaving are connected together. for example end of first 38 turns winding is tap 1 and next level is also connected to tap 1 when you start winding. this mean all taps except + and - are connected to two wires. one which is end of previous interleaving and one which is the starting lead of next interleaving. in other word, after each layer of winding "DO NOT CUT THE WIRE" just take the wire out from the bobbin slot and lap it over and then pass it in the bobbin again and start the new layer! use 0.1mm insultation paper between each layer use shellac or wax fit the EI stacks in cross order. one E from left and one from right, one left one right. when it's done, fill the gaps using "I"s the result is a direct replacement for T2A Klipsch Auto-transformer
