  2. Got the day off work today. I'm out in the garage listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn at levels that belie the time of day. The track saw is humming as I'm building a sub for my son's Christmas present. Life doesn't get much better than this. Have a good day guys. Back to making saw dust.

  6. Morning again gang Up from my nap, i wake to the smell of Oyster Stuffing (first batch) cooking. Wife unit always takes off day before turkey day to prepare the feast. It's my job to simply make dam sure BM fixins are stocked throughout the day. If i was Tarheel, right about now with no one around, i be figuring how to hook up one of those elect guitars to my system, crank that puppy and sit in front of the speaker. Looks like everyone has their chores for the day.

  7. Mornin' all. Gonna mix the ingredients and start brining the bird and extra bird breast soon. Big cooking/smoking day for me tomorrow. Love to cook. Baxter will celebrate his 1st holiday with us and has informed me that he can't wait for the frozen beef bone we have for him and a few bites of smoked turkey. Tarheel - hang in there with the guitar. Learn some chords and we'll jam next time you're in Colorado!! (My instrument isn't so portable). Happy Thanksgiving Eve, guys.

  9. Getting your rain now billybob. Suppose to clear and turn cooler this afternoon. Critter patiently waiting to be walked. May make another cup of coffee as the usual two is not enough this morning. LF is gone but calls 3X a day. I have one of her guitars, a Taylor, but going is slow. Mostly watching beginner lessons on YouTube. You guys have a great Thanksgiving and don't worry about me. I have a loaf of multigrain bread and a jar of crunchy peanut butter so all is well. Jake has a new bone and a spiffy new collar. Cheers Gents

  10. Rain past, sunshine out. Cooler today, just in time for the turkeyday. Friend asks, beer or liquor or both? I am thinking a little wine for a change. Or nothing, as I am contemplating riding cycle. Promise to not over-indulge in anything, even food. GF sister is a coffee drinker so... Today cover up paddlewheel boat from the weather. Make sure to gas-up cycle if ride. Replace bad ignition coil on the Volvo wagon. Relax and contemplate

Of course tonight was a special treat, some of my other Blogs are having fun with the Riot(s). Time for some coffee, still have of all things, speaker wire/antenna to buy.

  19. I use Greg's horns with the BMS 4592-mid driver 16ohm version, and the T90A Fostex tweeters with two SVS subs crossed at 80hz and enjoy the sound very much. My journey for the sound I was looking for has ended I am completely happy with what I have now no more changes to gear just the settings.

  22. Whether your interests are directed to Audio, Broadcasting, Electronics Hobbyist, you will find a treasure trove of information at www.americanradiohistory.com. David Gleason, a retired broadcaster, has, at his expense scanned hundreds of magazine, catalog and other publications for your perusal. Many of the titles are searchable--an invaluable aid if you are researching a topic. Rather than go into any detail on the site, just go there and be prepared to spend a pleasant hour or more. Note that the drop down menus have sub menus. Enjoy!!! Lee

  25. I do see what you mean. Like when I read that someone went to best buy and heard synergy speakers or something like that. And then tell one person after another that klipsch speakers sounds like crap. It bugs the hell out of me. But thats really on klipsch. They put out these cheap lines for everyone to hear and demo in stores. While they leave all the really good speakers hidden. With just pictures for all us to just look at. I know some places here and there have them. But the cheaper line speakers have become the face of the klipsch brand. And I don't know why but it bugs me. I should care less being that it affects me in no way. But maybe its because when you love something you hate to see its name tarnished. And the lowest level speakers should not be the face of klipsch. Get the good stuff in stores! .....Please.

  26. Klipsch speakers are the epitome of 'garbage in garbage out', especially with digital music. I have heard good things about the Teac DACs. I use a similar tube DAC called the Aune T1 and its amazing how 'alive' it makes music from Spotify sound. If I try to listen to music through my iPod jack or even my Xbox I have to turn it off after 3 min due to ear fatigue.

  27. Actually my layout is very similar to this. Either I need to cut in to the wall behind it somehow, which is odd since there is some plumbing that goes through it, move to in-wall speakers maybe, or I'll have to build it out, or I'll have to mount the stuff on wall shelves then drape a dangling screen in front of it.

  30. Canyonman what tweeters you had before? How do you think sound improved and what crossovers are you using? You have a klipschorn like mine with bms and vtracs. Why did you crossover @ 80hz. My khorns can go down to 40hz and are sounding nice. What benefit you had from crossing @80hz?

  32. yeah it seems so. it's a fc253hz horn just like Greg's V-trac. I'm going to use BMS 4592ND-mid on it. the tweeter is Beyma CP-25. for the lower notes I'll use a LS-like folded horn I've been tweaking for months not. I would say it's also very similar to Greg's Vittora bassbins. I'm not a carpenter but I can build things with wood. veneer is something new in my area but I'm working on it and experiencing different glues and ways of applying veneer on the BB plywood. for now it's a horn I built with veneered BB. not bad but not the end of my endeavor. we have 1ton air press in store and I'll soon build a vacuum bag press, then I would go for other sizes of Egdar style horn and maybe biradials

  34. I spoke to my customer and it looks like he will not be able to order the projector until the first of the year. That will likely be around the time we begin working on the new front wall. I can't complain since it won't cost me anything out of pocket, just lots of labor hours.

  36. A very rough guess is start with the number $600. If the cosmetics/finish are exceptional, then add 20-30%. However if there are problems, then subtract 20%. Keep in mind that folks can be very fussy about the cosmetic issues (what is a trivial blemish to you may be a major problem for someone else). Occasionally, a pristine pair may sell for more, but that is the exception. Good luck, -Tom

  38. The climate has been changing since the earth was formed. Over the last 450,000 years or so there have been 5 temperature cycles. The current cycle, the second warmest recorded, has peaked and is now trending downward. The warmest cycle, the one previous to the current cycle, occurred before man began using fossil fuels. Those who suggest "man made global warming" are ignoring a lot of evidence to the contrary.

  39. Doesn't matter to me in the least. I listen to music, not test tones. If you can tell the difference between 0.5% and 0.0015% distortion, you are a bat and probably can't afford a high end stereo system..... Im surprised someone that is a RCA cable roller and a speaker wire enthusiast would scoff at hard data. My amp probably has ~1% distortion at rated output and I would bet dollars to doughnuts that it sounds better than any Emotiva or Outlaw amp. And that, my friend, is something you don't need an oscilloscope to hear......... Shakey

  42. Maybe he took that online course advertised on late-night television titled "you too can be a psychologist in ten easy online lessons" and watched an hour presentation regarding "economics" on youtube and now he thinks he is creating "artificial scarcity" and "increased buyer demand" for an unmodified, original pair by stating, "If for some reason they don't move in a week or so you are screwed as you lost your chance at an unmodified original pair."

  43. We grew up with very modest means and there was a lot of sacrifice during the year; however, my memories are similar to yours as my parents always tried to make Christmas special for us kids. I have tried to continue that tradition in several ways to make Christmas special for a selection of unfortunate kids when I can. One of my most memorable was actually very 'close to home' and was for my girlfriend's two daughters (I believe the youngest may have been 10 and the other was maybe 14 at the time) that had very limited prospects for a special Christmas that year. The girls' father had passed away unexpectedly a couple of years before (leaving them all with bills and very limited prospects) and their mother and I had broken-up during the fall and not really dating that Christmas; however, both of the girls had already considered me their father and did not want me to leave their lives, even though I had decided to leave their mother's life at the time. After re-reading the next paragraph, I realize that it may have been similar to feeding a stray cat milk and finding the cat back at your door the next day. During the previous summer I had taken the girls to many double A baseball games, the X games tour (BMX bicycles, Skateboarding, etc.) that had booked dates in the city during the summer, events and places they each found interesting from an individual perspective, let them pick out as many pieces of clothes as they wanted from the 'teen second hand store' they loved to shop at, and general 'window-shopping,' among other things that they liked to do. During the 'window shopping' expeditions I would watch and evaluate how they were looking at items and ask questions to help gauge the actual interest in the items. That year, even though I was no longer dating their mother, I decided to go back to these stores and bought them most of the items that I had on the list from the window-shopping expeditions. When I got back in town I had the car loaded with wrapped packages but it was unclear to the girls who the packages were actually for. I had the girls unload the car and put the packages under the tree. The youngest had commented in such an innocent way that it was really exciting, like she was helping to unload Santa's sleigh (I love that she does NOT seem to have a pretentious bone in her body). Once all packages were under the tree and the lights all lit and Christmas music playing in the background, I then showed the girls how to 'break the code' on the packages to indicate who they were for and divide them up. They were really shocked that I even came back to see them for Christmas and expressed more shock after opening the presents in wondering how I knew about all of this stuff that they really wanted, especially since they did not even remember telling anyone about most of the items. Now both are in their 20s (I'll be walking the oldest down the aisle for her wedding this summer) and both still talk about how magical Christmas was for them that year. The youngest is now attending college, working full time, and in her own place for the first time this year and wants to make the Thanksgiving dinner. Since she has never cooked a turkey before and has started asking me questions, I've coyly devised a few ways to help her with the task. On a side note, when she asks, I keep telling my girlfriend that I want an insulated Stumps gravity feed smoker for Christmas. Once I have the cash to pay for it, she says she will be happy to place the order. At this stage in my life, I like the aspect of the gravity feed smoker holding a really steady temperature as I do not want to always be watching the smoker and a smoker that fluctuates a lot in temperature can affect the juiciness of the meat. From everyone that I know with a Stumps Smoker, the universal comment seems to be the temperature is extremely precise. If you set the Stumps at 225 degrees, it might fluctuate three or four degrees, and that's it. They have a reputation of holding a tighter temperature range than an electric or gas oven. I like his tag line too of, STUMP DON'T BUILD NO JUNK! Wishing all on the forum a happy holiday season!!!

I was kind of confused by what I was reading. By no means am I delusional audiophile. Just an A/V enthusiast of 20+ years, who is looking to make an upgrade and wants to reach out to the community so I can make the most informed decision possible based on member's past and present experiences.....

  46. the mid range horn of the KLF20/30 is used on a couple of pro Klipsch as a tweeter. This by the way demonstrates the superiority of these designs over the mid horns of the Heritage line up. The wider the available bandwidth the better the horn design. The CF3/4 horn is also suitable as a tweeter. For id and low mid you want a horn which is as large as is acceptable that is why the K402 is the size that it is. This delivers good polar control to as low as possible. Best regards Moray James.
