  1. Evening Gang Sittin in my Fav Bar w/Coffee and Rocky Road Casino is doing a good job beating the wife up. Easy day, wired in 11 fixtures 13 to go. Forum looks calm leading up to Hope Gathering, that should be a party. I learned sometime back if your going to be in a casino for a week, and you have a fav place to hang out, tip the person $20 as soon as they are on you, iv have service here like a high roller, even get reports from the floor on how/where the wife is

  7. Got my yard mowed this morning as I won't be able to do it this weekend. I'm meeting a bunch of speaker nerds in another state. Yeah, I know, it sounds weird but everyone has to have a hobby I suppose. Leaving after lunch to see my brother 3 hours north of here so Friday's drive will be basically cut in half compared to if I left from here. I'll check in from time to time.

  12. How many besides me have regular "music nights"? A "music night" is defined as an entire evening dedicated to NOTHING other than sitting in the sweet spot, sipping a favorite libation, and listening to music. Absolutely nothing else. I like to have them 2 or 3 times a week when possible. As for me last night was one. The first in a while considering a recent move. I've missed them. But I sincerely enjoyed last night. My neighbors? Well... Not so much. Too bad. Last night was a mix of Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler, Carlos Santana, and Ottmar Liebert. Yes... I like "guitar" music.

  18. Hi, First post here - Moray James asked me over in diyAudio to take a look at the University Classic and reverse engineer the driver parameters. I have built the Akabak model with all the turns and expansions and contractions - this horn is super efficient, with a decent driver it can make 130dB+ at xmax but problem is the tuning frequency is a modest 75Hz. I find it rather tolerant of different drivers and certain modestly priced modern pro audio drivers can really make it rock. I will post results tomorrow. There is a very simple mod that will take this down to 60Hz without too much loss of sensitivity. Cheers, X

  19. Finally watched Interstellar tonight. Great ride. Would have enjoyed it even more if it wasn't for the asinine post from derrickdj1 (#1144). Geezz, who does that ?!? EDIT: If you've yet to watch Interstellar.... don't read the aforementioned post #1144 or you'll be as pissed as I am.

  20. Heresy Industrial Slant Monitors (HISM) is what those are with the metal trim, Moray. Mine were just HDBL speakers with an industrial Heresy motorboard (what the grill is attached to) added by Gwin Cox, to keep my adopted cat from clawing the woofers. HIP are Heresy Industrial PORTED.

  21. no fair making fun of dead people. It was probably the “Jackass” that kept us alive. Take the stuff from the bottom of a wine barrel and run through a still -- strongest stuff you’ll ever drink. We called it the Jackass and even the old folks did shots of it. Fun times.I am pretty sure I did not make fun of dead people. Would maybe have a drink of jackass though

  22. of course... I have always rowed or shoveled my own. the TL I traded in was the first Automagic I have ever purchased and I thought I was ready for the big slow down and sailing off into the sunset... I guess the answer was no way because I only had that car for about 2.5 months before looking elsewhere. this thing is EVERYTHING that is advertised... specially with the performance package of brembos and 3.73 gearing. needs to be lowered a bit... and many other things, but I think I will live with a simple drop for a little while.

  24. Hey folks, it's been awhile, but I am finally back...I'll be around on and off as I prepare to go into semi-retirement. Does anybody have the pics I posted years ago of my birch HDBL Heresys? The ones that look like flames on the front and habe the black metal grilles over the woofers? Bob Crites, didn't you have those pics saved somewhere? Please let me know if any of you have those pics somewhere...thanks! Andy

  27. Ditto to what youthman said. Many of us use power amps or flagship avr's with more power. I would suspect that impedance dips may be causing the problem. Let's see what others have to say.

  31. You don't need multiple channels....just send the full signal through the Marantz like you've been doing. Just turn the subwoofer power off when testing the mains, and then disconnect the speaker cable going to the mains when testing the sub...

  36. I have taken the time to assemble an impressive HT system Scrappydue , but i don't have a leg iron to klipsch . Mains are highly modified K-horns , center is a CF-7 , rears are K-horns , 2 subs are ksw-300 & ksw 15 Main amp is a Rotel RB -1090 (380WPC ) Center and rears handled by a Rotel RB-993 , Bass enhancement done with pair of Audio control Phasedcoupled activators , monster cable handles the power conditioning and the Rotel RSP-985 sincs it all to life . The second channel of the RB-1090 run the second headset and a pair of Lowther drivers in the bass bin . That 1.5 " thick cable you see on the left side of the K-horn is monster cable ME2 @ $900.00 per speaker . This HT is one of 6 complete systems i currently run ... As for the privacy comment , once a disc is purchased you can do with it what you want , there is no law against making a back up copy ... 90% of Blu-rays now come in a combo pack that actually gives you a Digital copy for those who don't have the software to rip a Blu-ray . The law states you can't play or broadcast to the public .

  40. I agree with Schu. There are some important numbers, just not the unqualified THD numbers. Have a look at input sensitivity, does the wattage double when the impedance of the load is halved (approximately). Fortunately, Klipsch speakers usually do not present a difficult load and they usually have tons of efficiency (which also means any hiss or hum will come through). So reviews done with lower efficiency speakers or difficult loads (electrostats etc) are not very useful.

  42. Genevieve and Alex, welcome to the family. It's an honor to have you two join us. I have been absent from the forum for quite a while, but my husband spoke of your father often. His passing is surely a great loss to this "virtual" community. If you haven't already, you will soon discover why your dad visited here so often. My deepest sympathy to you, your mom, your family and your friends.

  44. I do not have very much experience with horns and driver combos, so take my comments with an amateur's point to view. I have not heard a 3-way system that is as coherent as a 2-way without spending a TON of money. My friend has $9K 3-way speakers (direct radiators) that are fantastic in that regards. The 2-way system has much more focus to the centre image than any 3-way at this price range. There simply is no contest for razor sharp centre image and placement of musicians left to right within the sound stage. With not having a tweeter, I do not detect any loss of detail or high end information through the rest of my equipment*. If I were to start again from scratch for any build, I would consider the simpler crossover and lack of tweeter as budget surplus to spend on 'full-range' horn and driver. The 510 does not suck. Again without a ton of experience and no 'double blind' testing, the 510 sounds awesome and huge in my apartment. It is huge; near floor to ceiling presentation. Very efficient. Great dynamics. I fear there may be a little thinness in the lowest mid range. I am quite happy with the horn. *the rest of my equipment: Grace F9 w/ Soundsmith Ruby-OCL VPI Classic Leben RS30-eq Leben CS-600 2way modern Belles

  45. No, Bob...I still have them, just no PICS of them. They are in storage at the moment along with most of what I own, so it isn't feasible to dig thru everything to try to get a pic. Thanks for posting this! I am about to be semi-retired soon, and have some nifty surprises in mind for the forumites to drool over...and some business for you, too! Andy

  46. The KSP-300 was a fine speaker. You can use most any of the Reference centers with it. He is right the KSP-C6 is the right center. I am not sure how many parts we have for any of that line. That is a solid amp used for the sub. It can have a hum due to grounding...If you get them get 2 of the ground lift adapters for the power wire.
