  8. WE are rolling with it for sure have no choice currently , Frankly the old beast is growing on me I have not had / driven a V8 in a long time, always been a fan of the 302 (great motor).....................she does have a little chatter sounds like the harmonic balancer ?? but it holds good pressure and idles smooth as glass The only issue currently is driving down the road at speed it seems to have a miss, then you slow back to idle its smooth again, I am thinking vacuum leak, I had another fella tell me the base plate on the throttle body's were known to have internal cracks and that would cause the sputter at speed. Dont really see how this could be an issue since that would be sealed with gasket on top and bottom of the plate. Im no expert shade tree at best Good morning folks, boys on the way to school sipping some Chai Tea this morning Bit of a sore throat. Actually had to turn on the heat this morning dropped down below 60 last night , Knocked the chill off for the boys Later

  11. Coffee pun Arrrr Arrrr Arrrrr. Welcome back to the work week all. Still working on the bathroom. Should have all the concrete board floated by this weekend and maybe start tiling it the weekend after next. I'm going to try and con my brother into coming down for a weekend. Together we can probably knock out 2/3 to 3/4 of it. I've taken in a boarder. My nephew is now here in town working for the ATF. He's also active military reserves and stays very busy with both vocations. Problem is that his wife is active military also and is in FL with his son and step sons. I don't know how they do it, breaks my heart to see them stationed so far apart. They've both tried for hardship transfers but so far no go. I hope they can get closer together some how but he's welcome in our home for as long as the need is there. He did a lot of swimming this weekend with our Rottie so now they're best buds. Bowling is doing well as I keep setting personal bests. I averaged 192 over 3 games yesterday. I wish I learned how to bowl correctly a long time ago. Joe, your oil pressure seems high at idle. Guess it's better than you blood pressure. Everyone have a great week!!!! Carl

  12. If you are in a friend's car and hear a great song by Dream Theater you have not heard in a long time... Do you: 1) Say this sound system sucks. 2) Think this song rocks, reach over and turn it up and start playing air guitar and sing along. 3) Punch the driver in the ribs cause you just saw a VW bug. 4) Wish the DAC was better. 5) Ask how much longer until we reach Arby's. ???

A perfect example of why we are moving to a home school friendly state like Mississippi as soon as I get settled The BIGGEST problem with Home Schooling is the parents need to know enough and be smart enough to teach it..... Sadly MOST do not. I even have an IDIOT cousin that has Home "UNSCHOOLED" her kids! Roger

  15. Speaking of a great cassette story.Think about this....I am 57....Back in my younger days while living at my parents house in the late 70's there was a radio station WXRT that would play a midnight album every Friday. At the time I had a Sharp Rt 3388A...the most high tech computer controlled cassette deck. I had the ability to plug my receiver into it and I could set a start recording at midnight...so I would use it to start my receiver and my Pioneer Rt 707 reel to reel start recording the midnight album... You could fit a whole album on one side of a 7 inch reel to reel tape if you recorded it at the slower speed...Then I would transfer them to cassette so I could play them in my car. This was heaven free albums and I did not even have to be awake to record them. Well I recorded so many midnight albums and transferred them to cassette I need to buy one of those big brief case type cassette holders....I think it may have held 48 cassettes.... Over the years while dating my now wife of 30 years every vacation we went on we would remember to pack the cassette case to listen to on our trip...at every tourist attraction we stopped at whether it was the Corn Palace....Grand Canyon... Devils Tower we would always buy one of those stickers and stick it onto the case with all the cassettes....By the time we got married the case was full . About 12 years ago I started to get rid of a lot of old analog gear one of which was the RT3388A and the cassette case...About a month ago a kid from work (he's 28) come up to me with his cell phone to show me a picture of what he bought at a garage sale....There is the fricken case with the stickers and all and it was still full with the same midnight albums. The kid said ...YOU recorded those... I said F...ing A enjoy

  17. Thinking about this as it relates to the internet, Back when I grew up and there was no internet you were as good as your word. Break your word and you can bet you were called on it (the max effective range of an excuse was ZERO meters) I carry that philosophy over to my dealing on the net, and I tend to hold people that I deal with to that same standard. Fail to do what you say and I question your integrity (but I am reasonable stuff does happen), Fail 2 or 3 times and my trust is basically lost, Fail to do what you say and become a ghost (IE... fail to contact and at least offer a reason for failing to do what you said, and ignore my contact and request for information) Now we have an Issue I understand people have lives, and that things can come up, I follow the rule I wont say I will do it if I am not SURE I can, further if an emergency happens I will make an effort to notify / contact whom ever I am dealing with in a timely manner (timely means hours not days) How do you hold people responsible for a standard of conduct on the internet ?? I love it when people tell me I am straight forward and they Like dealing with folks this way, then that same individual pulls a ghost act for more than 3 days, (some may consider 3 days petty in the grand scheme But I would bet that same persons Boss would not consider it petty) and they have the nerve to be offended when called on it It is like a double standard today Hold ones self accountable for work etc...but shine on anyone you feel like you can get over on I am already on the boys about Honesty, It is a pet peeve of mine if you lie the punishment is much worse than just telling the truth

  24. They don't teach cursive writing anymore, not for at least the last 10 years, at least in most states. Email, texts, etc. were seen as the replacement for cursive writing and therefor no longer necessary to be taught. I don't think that was well thought out.

  26. here is a nice news clip that is actually right on the nose “In 2009, the Common Core owners convinced the U.S. Department of Education to drive the standards into the states through a carrot-and-stick approach,” McGroarty continued. “In state after state, the state departments and boards of education, which are executive branch agencies, adopted the Common Core despite their demonstrably inferior quality. They did so because their institutional focus is on courting the favor of the federal government, the entity that provides conditional money.”

  29. Regarding the op's original question, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I do think however that the RF-7II's need a sub to sound "complete". They're also very revealing and will make compressed or low bit rate recordings sound like crapola. I've never heard Cornwalls so I can't offer an opinion on the comparison.

  31. Well, took me 4 hours round trip to get em, but got them home and am now listening to them. Have to get new cloth for the speaker covers on 1 as it has a tear and a patch, and someone used them for plants,so there is some slight bubbling of the veneer on top. Other than that they sound very good. Can definitely hear the difference between them and the KG speakers.

  38. Things to ponder: Tapped Horn Tapped horns are similar in design theory to the Front Loaded Horns. However, rather than placing the driver in the sealed chamber at the rear of the horn, it is placed in the mouth (no chamber), so that the output from both sides of the cone can be utilized. Tapped horns can typically achieve a much flatter frequency response in singles, but do not benefit from extended low frequency sensitivity in groups like FLH's do. Generally, this leads to an overall smaller system footprint to get desired frequency response, with a slightly lower bandwidth,as tapped horns display massive peaks and dips just above the subwoofer passband where the rear and front waves of the driver start to negatively interact. Pros: Tapped horns can achieve similar sensitivity vs a single horn enclosure out of slightly smaller box size, as output from the rear of the driver helps Low frequency response Generally a tapped horn is much flatter than a single FLH in its passband. This makes running them in singles worthwhile, and still achieves about 6 db of added sensitivity over that found in a vented enclosure (or equivalent output out of half the drivers). Due to the lack of rear chamber, it is easier to fit large drivers (18" and 21") inside a tapped horn design, without blowing the size budget. This can further increase performance when one compares a single tapped horn vs a single FLH, as added displacement aids in both peak output a and LF response. For equivalent driver size, Tapped horns end up smaller than FLHs with similar tuning and sensitivity. Cons: Not only does excursion rise quickly below horn tuning, there is also a very high excursion peak withing the passband of the horn. This means that even employing a hipass does not adequately protect you from driver overexcursion and the distortion/risk of failure that comes along with it, as the design will now reach peak excursion inside the frequency range it has been designed to reproduce. To combat the problem above, most tapped horn designs require a driver with extreme Xmax (linear excursion) capabilities, otherwise they are very limited in the amount of power they can take before driver damage occurs. Unless the designer opts for one of these "super drivers" (which can be quite expensive), the design may be limited in peak output at the same point as a dual vented design (although it will take far less amp power and half the drivers to reach that output) Even a well designed tapped horn will display response "glitches" only slightly above the passband (between 100hz and 250hz). The is marked by massive peaks and valleys where the rear and front waves interact poorly. Although these fall above the horn passband, extreme peaks may still require notch filters to keep them from coloring the crossover region. Tapped horns do not gain a lower corner frequency from being used in multiples. While they do display a generally flat frequency response as a single unit, this is as good as it gets. Doubling cabs produces a 6 db increase in output, just as we see with vented designs. Distortion is not filtered out as seen with Front loaded horns, as the rear wave is produced directly in the mouth and does not travel through any folded horn path. Given that max excursion is seen within the passband, that means distortion can be very high when the cab is pushed to its limits. Just like with any horn design, they are harder than direct radiators to design and build. That being said, they are slightly easier to build than FLH's, due to the lack of a rear chamber. Additional DSP would be something I would like to have for one of these subs. Most people will use this in an HT setting. Driver damage is a major concern if one get's over zealous with the gain control or DSP. 6 db for output advantege over a slot port design. The subwoofer world is full of trade-offs.

  39. All those things are fine but remember when your child goes to school and what you have taught is at odds with the schools agenda, now you are confusing your 8 year old child, I also feel like this confusion is a HUGE reason kids start to resent school, and eventually begin to give up Our boys are ahead of the curve exactly because we do teach them at home, of course the schools take no notice of there levels and the bore the hell out of them for hours on end going over the same thing or confusing the hell out of them with this type crap................. This is another MAJOR problem with "COMON CORE", Teachers have an agenda for their kids to do well on the tests set forth by the government. There is ABSOLUTELY no initiative for a teacher to HELP an advanced student with their studies and as a matter of fact it is counter productive for a teacher to push a kid who is smart into a higher grade level as I was, because it is going to effectively bring down their grade as a teacher. The Federal Government needs to get the HEIl out of Public Education. Roger

  40. Best of both worlds, more bass + raising drivers closer to ear level. Heresy's really need a sub anyways in my opinion, just not a sloppy/muddy sounding one that subtracts from its natural snappiness. Is snappiness a word ? Not sure, i used it anyways.
