  2. OK I'm a little slow on the uptake. What (or who) got cleaned out with Oxyclean? Ahh, i see my statement could be read in yet another way. We here on the CCC thread have blogged about how we clean our coffee makers. I have discovered trying many things over the years, for SS coffee maker that of the Perkin type, a good heaping tablespoon of Oxyclean every two or three weeks keeps it brand new, and a couple good rinses.

  5. Happy Veterans' Day to all who served and a huge thank you. Made it to Bodcaw, AR around 6 pm yesterday. Had an informal meeting with Roy and Rodney, involving a little tequila and Fireball whiskey. Lots of surprises planned for April's Pilgrimage! Rodney is making good progress on his planned improvements which include building the road in higher. Could have used four wheel drive to get in yesterday. This is our current situation.

  6. Happy Veterans Day to all the vets. I'm not a vet either but deeply grateful. My son-in-law did 2 tours in Iraq and is currently stationed in Germany as a Staff Seargent. The Weather Witch was right ... we got about 3 inches of snow last night. Much more in the mountains and foothills. Should be a good ski season at this rate. Our area is supposed to be back up in the 50s or 60s. by Saturday. Try to check back .....later.....

  9. As we said, it was a crappy little war but the one they stuck us with... :-). Share this place with two other AFRTS guys. The box on the table was a teak cigarette dispenser our house girl kept filled with fresh rolled joints. I still have the candlestick for which I paid 5.00. The Christmas tree on the speaker remained a mystery to our local nationals. We put it up Christmas and left it until we pulled out in July. The system was a "joint" effort. TT was mine, a Garrard Zero 100 with a Shure stylus, and we had a 4 channel Teac and a quad Pioneer receiver with 4 Pioneer speakers. The other is me at the station, obviously really working hard for victory. Must have a been a real treat for whoever dismantled that structure back in the states as there was a small fortune in roaches dropped in the AC intake in that room. Spent many days and nights in the near chair a long time ago in a galaxy far away. Dave

  10. Yes JL happy Veteran's Day and thank you for your service. A beautiful day here to celebrate. Got in a bike ride yesterday thanks to Jake. He wandered off exploring without permission. Got on my bike and found him in the neighborhood. Escorted him back. So while the bike was out the LF and I took a ride. LF playing tennis and going to a Veteran's Day tribute in her community. Her father was aboard a landing craft at Normandy.....in the second wave. When I consider that......I picture the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan. I am not a veteran but wondering who on the CC&C thread is. Cheers Ladies and Gents.....and please thank a Veteran.....today in particular.

Served during the time of Desert Shield and Desert Storm (the invasion of Iraq) making me a state side veteran of that foreign war. Happy Veterans Day! One of our planes from that time. I performed preflight/postflight work on 833 many times.

  12. Just picked up another Sherbourn PT7020C4 today. Going to run this one in two channel for now with an XPA-2 powering a pair of Klipsch Industrial Slant Heresies. Shipped today so I am hioping to have it by weeks end! Replacing a pair of Outlaw Audio MM2200 mono block amps and an Emotiva XDA-2 Gen 2. They will be going up for sale soon. They performed well but I prefer this new set up as it offers bass management, which I need!

  13. Thanks guys, let's just say there is a LOT of live music and an ocean in my near future. It's been a great year musically and professionally. Saw Tesla/Styx/Def Leppard on a Toronto adventure (9 hours from home), mixed at the Key West Songwriters Festival again, took a cruise this spring with Dtels and my Gina. Summer was working for a local PA company, seeing a lot more live rock, even if a bit of drive and ticket scalping was involved. Whitesnake, TOTO/Yes in Detroit, Robert Plant here in Indy from the 5th row center. Joining the local stagehands union IATSE 30 and starting their internship program Jan 2016 at the age of 57. I'll be 60 when I become a Journeyman but it's the next step in this journey. Working larger shows with professional gear and touring pros has got to be near the nth degree of what this hobby as become for me.

That was a heck of a game, I don't know what goop is.I read your last post, sure, I can you a good vinyl cleaner, but don't worry about it as we never really made the bet, we'll call it a gentleman's bet. I did google goop and came up with this. http://goop.com/ So if you have Gwen Paltrow, I will take her. If you take her, you'll have to talk to her. I heard she is difficult to work with. 15. It's been almost a month since I have posted something on the forum and it's been killing me.. I wanted my 1000th post to be somewhat special... I was going to post something like.....my Klipsch/audio journey for the last 25+ years....but I just could not get my thoughts together. I have a hard time taking my thoughts out of my head and putting them into written form. My brain just does not work good like that. Like most of my speakers and audio gear my Chorus that I'm about to tell you about come with a story... A story that I think is worthy of "My 1000th post"... So here goes..... The Chorus........ While surfing the E-bay some 8-9 years ago I came across a set of Chorus I's. They had a starting bid of 99 cents, so they caught my attention. I clicked on the pics to see some really bad looking cabs. I mean these thinks were busted. The corners were gone on most of the top of the cabs. There were only four pics just enough to show how bad they were. All four pics were taken with the grills on, so I could not see any of the horns or woofers. A very brief description that didn't tell me a whole lot. So I placed my bid and I forgot about the auction. To this day I forget how much I bid but it wasn't much. As some of you guys might know my wife and I work together. We own a small auto shop and it's just me and her. So at the shop one afternoon my wife yells in the bay at me.. "hey you won those Klipsch"..... I was really at a loss, I really forgot about the auction. I went into her office to see what she was talking about. As soon as I looked at them it "clicked". She asked me what they are, I told her they are some Bad A$$ speakers..... Now my wife loves our audio gear... she was the one that found our LaScala's some 25+ yeras ago. So we looking at these really bad looking Chorus and she said something like... are you sure you want those?? I was at a loss, I won them for less than $30.... I forget how much I got them for but it was something like 27 bucks. The auction house was down in Washington DC... Down in the hood. DC is about an hour drive for me... but I hate driving in DC. I'm thinking let me call the auction house and get the scoop on these things. Like I said there were no pics of any of the drivers and if these are just bare busted cabs I'm going to pay for them and tell them to trash em. I wanted to keep my 100% feedback on my E-bay. But I was not going to drive in that DC hell for some busted up cabs. The call went something like this.... The guy told me that they sold these Klipsch for a customer several weeks ago. They shipped them but they got damaged in the shipping. This is how they got them back. They made a claim and everyone was made whole. He said they just want to off these Klipsch to someone that could use them. He said they were 100% working before the shipping damage, but had no clue if they work now.. but all the drivers are in the cabs. I told him I would be down tonight to pick them up. They were open late into the evening so I didn't have to fight that 5-6 hour DC hell traffic. The drive down there was not to bad....it was not that deep into the DC hood like I thought it was. We pay my man for them and loaded them into van. We got back to the house around 10:00 or so. I got them into the house and had a good look at them.... they looked much worse in the pics...oh they were still ugly.... well lets hear them... a quick hook up to one of my amps. Put about 20 watts to em and I could quickly tell somethings not right. One of the woofers was blown. But the other one was 100%. Now it just so happens I had a pair of K-48's in the basement. I got them years ago for something. I forget why I got them but I have them.. I get crapp from my wife about the stuff I buy. My wife was just shaking her head when I came upstairs with the woofer. I swapped out the offending woofer and put the watts to em..... Oh my they sound great.... the wife was like holy shitt. Despite how they looked these things kicked.... The cabs were still solid... I was very happy.. The Chorus was one of the 1st klipsch speakers I heard many many years ago. My old x brother-in-law brother got four of them when they 1st came on the market. He powered them with two Carver cube's. I never forgot that sound... it blew me away.... Now I have a set for a really good price. I must now end this 1000th post.....ohhhh I'm not done... I'm just getting started on the story of these Chorus... Like I said It is really hard for me to put things into written form and my brain is killing me right now. This is just how I got these things... and I am also at my home computer and this thing is slow and if I loose this I'm going shitt a brick... I hope you like it so far.... I will continue later and I will get the wife to load some pics tomorrow at the shop. Stay tuned..... MKP :-)

  22. Well, 25 pages and still wandering from the original post. Nobody has really addressed the basic question as to whether our society is better off with us directly supporting the below poverty line people by paying more food, clothes, manual and unskilled labor, etc or through the proven waste of doing it with tax money. Personally, I think it would be a worth experiment to determine as closely as possible what the minimum wage must be to make having a job worthwhile and providing a minimal healthy existence and simply raise it to that...then let prices follow. Consumers will pay for a number one meal or even supersized if the price is the same everywhere even if it's gone up 20 percent. Frankly, I'd don't think prices would go up that much but it might be worth it. More taxes for defense, infrastructure and less for welfare, workfare, and related. Taxes would remain stable and we'd get more for what we pay. Nothing else seems to work, and the 25 pages of wandering here seem to prove that. Conceptually, LBJ's "Great Society" was a noble thought. It was never carried out but even the "conservatives" of the day found merit in it. Maybe it's time to consider a better way to deal with poverty with a hand up instead of a handout. I am retired now so my money is important to watch...but I am not adverse to helping others a bit and believe it comes back in the end. Dave

  31. The era of the mindless manufacturing jobs where an operator can make bank with very little skills is over. Sorry but it just is. That's what everybody is really getting at when they ask for manufacturing to come back. You have to follow the economy and reinvent yourself into something useful. My immediate area was hit hard by this type of thing, this place used to be booming back in the day with the USEC plant. Now it's a sad situation. Anyway, my fear isn't offshoring as much as the wave of robotics that will be here in 15 years. They're predicting that everybody from sales to customer support will be replaced by robots sooner than you think. Lots of minimum wage jobs will be able to be automated soon, that's not really debatable, but the powers that be are shooting higher than that.

  35. I got a Tiny Joy in my email, yesterday and it mentioned Turkish coffee. Hmmmm. I then decided I *needed* a backpack/survival stove, to make Turkish Coffee and an Ibrik, or facsimile, to make it in. So I went to Gander Mtn and didn't like what I found and finally Wal-mart and brought this home. Turkish coffee is interesting and I like it! Four rounded tablespoons per cup of water, add 3-ish teaspoons of sugar, heat until it foams up 3 times and decant slowly. I think the Ibrik should be a Christmas hint.

  38. I COMPLETELY agree with everything you just said. That is why I presented the design the way I did, Version #1 is the design that would pair best with SS amplifiers (Higher distortion, mostly 2nd order), and the "Revision" which, to be honest, is actually MY Pre-amp design (actually revised for Version #1 to be more compatible with SS Amps). So, no more "funny business". DIY'ers can build the Pre as either V1 for use with SS Amps or V2 for use with S.E. Tube amps (During the build, we will allow for connection points that the DIY'ers can use to CHANGE their build from V1 to V2 in the event they buy or build a Tube Amp). As for the comment about the voltage change depending on a "specific" tubes' plate resistance, I agree, however, we as designers (just like voters) have to make informed decisions and select the topology (or candidate) that most closely relates to our Utopian ideals. What I have stated regarding non-matching tubes has been proven by my own empirical data over the course of many years now. I started using the lowly LM317 as a current sink several years ago, and in fact, they still exist in several of my old builds, none the worse for wear. So, we will get on to the Power Supply discussion shortly, perhaps later this afternoon. Matt.

  39. This linestage project would be great for lessoning the harshness of some CDs, mp3s, etc. The linestage, (with it's second harmonics) would be nice for use in front of a SS amplifier, that may have been harsh/bright sounding. Where the tube linestage helps smooth out the overall sound of the system...something like that... But when using a tube amplifier, like a single ended class A that has it's own 2nd harmonic distortion, and then adding a tube linestage...would that seem like too much of a good thing? I used a stepped attenuator nowdays, because I don't need the extra gain when using a CD player or my Raspberry Pi2/HiFiBerry DAC+. Sometime ago, I lashed up a pair a Aikido linestages, right and left. The circuit has a sort of self cancelling of noise from the way it's designed. It worked/sounded rather well actually, but I didn't need the extra gain and they eventually got shelved. Had to really watch out for microphonic 6SN7s, some of them really howled in circuit with no signal.

  42. To summarize:People in the lowest 90% should go around tipping each other to solve the low wages problem. No, that won't help a bit. We need to change the bad rules that were forced on the economy by the plutocrats. We need to take a large carving knife and slice into the top plutocrats income flows, and push that money down to the bottom. How? By canceling the horrendous trade agreements they have secretly foisted onto the population, which cause massive surplus labor, and subsequent loss wages, while simultaneously increasing their already bloated incomes. That's the economic adjustment program we need to fulfill our moral obligation to our fellow citizens. The lowest paid workers today are not of any lower virtue than the lowest paid workers of 20 years ago, 50 years ago, or 200 years ago. They are just the lowest on the economic leader. Since wages are falling steadily for 90% of the population, and prices are rising steadily, you might want to look beyond your own comfy situation and wonder, "is this good for the country?" Is it going to be good to have 290 million people in poverty? Because right now, that IS the direction it is going. This issue has nothing to do with taxes. It has nothing to do with welfare, it has nothing to do with taking your money. It had to do with the conditions of creating huge amounts of excess labor through agreements devised by global plutocrats. Sent from my SM-T330NU using Tapatalk

  44. What kind of economy do you want to live in? My own preference is for a high wage, expanding middle class economy. You can not maintain a middle class (by anyone's definition) without high wages. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that high wages for working people are the foundation or meaning of middle class. If the middle is to mean anything, it must lie between two poles. On the bottom are subsistence workers who can exist only week to week on a wage that only provides the minimum for sustaining life. On the top are the wealthy who can be defined as having so much that luxury is an every day phenomenon. Economies don't just happen. They are designed. It's not an accident of nature that Germany has a high wage middle class economy (classic bell curve) and Mexico has a low wage feudal economy (hockey stick). People, events, powers drive the economy where they want it. The USA in my lifetime (post WWII) began with building a very successful middle class economy in the 1950s and 1960s, but then veered off radically in the direction of "Mexico." Gradually forcing down ward that middle class bubble in the middle of the bell curve, gradually flattening it into the elitist economies of the 3W. No, not there yet, but speeding down the highway full steam toward that goal. No accident was involved. Specific people drove a new direction and with enough time, the results followed. Middle class should mean: ability to support a family with one income, ability to save for the future, access to health care that doesn't bankrupt the family, good housing, adequate food, access to education, and above all a semblance of security. Not luxurious, but secure. That's what occurred in the post WWII era. Blue collar skilled workers could enter the Middle Class. Not anymore. Now, to be Middle Class requires one to be a professional or quasi-professional (high technicians). Skilled labor jobs barely exist, having been replaced by either automation or offshoring. The data doesn't lie. The bulk of our population is living well below middle class standards. Sure, you can say to yourself they all must be dumb, lazy, ignorant, immoral, slobs. But, you are talking about 85 million people! No sir, it's not a moral problem (in spite of the viscous circulating propaganda). It's an economic systems problem. Knobs and levers in the economic engine have been purposely, with great intent, turned this and that way, resulting in a different set of outcomes, which now wildly favor a few thousand people who had access to the knobs and levers, while seriously hurting the millions who didn't. To restore the Gold Age of the American middle class, we need to get hands on to those very knobs and levers and turn them back to a better operation of the machinery of the economy. The Minimum Wage Lever, is nothing more than one of a couple dozen that needs adjustment.
