  1. My first album to spin on my newly acquired Dual 1245 turntable. So far i'm half way through record 1 side 2 and I'm loving it. At one point in my life there were upwards of 3000 albums (vinyl) either in active circulation or in storage. Don't know what possessed me to garage sale them or give them all away but I did. Today marks album number one of what I hope will become a small collection that that will provide me with hours and hours of listening enjoyment. The hardware involved is pretty modest. An Onkyo Integra A-9711 integrated amp, an Onkyo Integra T-4711 tuner, an Onkyo DX-C340 6 disc CD changer, a Dual 1245 turntable with a Shure V15 type III cartridge, a Dayton Audio SUB-1200 subwoofer and finally a pair of 84 HBR Heresys. Not "audiophile" or "high end" by any stretch of the imagination but sounding pretty D@MN good to my 57 year old badly damaged hears right now.

  4. Afternoon folks. Just placed Christmas peanut order. Two cases of 12. Break it up this way.....4 chocolate covered, 4 blister fried, 2 sea salt, 2 honey roasted. In the second case added Weeping Mary (ghost pepper) peanuts and butterscotch. Always order from Bertie County Peanuts right here in NC. Don't forget the flak jackets guys....getting scary out there. Watched Anthony Bourdain on TV on demand last night. The one about Lebanon....highly recommended. Release date of June. Being next to Syria they have absorbed 2 million refugees. Much concern over ISIS. Tony manages to eat and drink through the entire hour...... Gotta run......

  5. Heh. My Girlfriend has to take "be nice" pills to keep from wanting to kill people. One thing you don't do is bark at her first thing in the morning before the coffee and meds kick in. It gets real ugly.

  8. Yes. Capacitors are a little cranky and the sound will settle down between 10 and 20 hours of listening. Some say it's just the ear/brain "getting used to the new sound" - I don't buy into that. I've spoken to several in the industry, including Richard Marsh, and ALL agree that there is a short settling in period.

  21. Hi all, Due to recent medical bills that have drained us financially i need to sell my Marantz 2238 receiver. I've bought it a while back and used it only occasionally to listen to my music collection. It's in great condition - clean, lights work, sounds good. Wood case has a few small imperfections (rear corner had chipped veneer and was repaired). I would really like to sell it locally if at all possible (San Diego, California) as shipping this guy is just asking for trouble. I may still ship, but you will need to cover packaging/shipping costs - fedex, insured for full value and understand the danger of shipping. Should be around $50 or so in my estimate. You are welcome to come to my place and check it out or listen while hooked up to RF-7s. By the way - looks great next to Cherry RF7s. Would like to get $350 for it.

  22. Just so everyone understands, if the original poster is in talks for any of the goods he is sharing a link to, I am assuming he would not be posting said alert in the forum. At the same time I do not understand why anybody here would try to sabotage a fellow forum member to drive up prices. That seems rather strange to me if you yourself are not interested. Just my two cents

  25. There is no replacement for displacement. Headroom does and will make a huge difference! People that think that the single power supply in there AVR is enough for even the most efficient Klipsch speaker are only fooling themselves. I compromised and replaced my two monster DBX BX-1 configurable amplifiers with a Sherbourn 7 channel true mono block amplifier. That said the huge power supplies and headroom available in the DBX units made them superior to even the 115lb Sherbourn 7/2100A monolith. I did run a nice pair of McIntosh MC-30 tube amps on my Klipschorn's while they sounded fabulous at low to moderate levels they could not complete with the horsepower of the big DBX amps.

  26. I shot competition airguns both springer and PCP (Pre-Charged Pneumatic) for quite a number of years. Participated in 3 National Championship matches, numerous Washington State Championship matches, and set two world records. I witnessed the Lewis and Clark gun in person at a National Championship match in Connecticut a number of years ago.

  27. This whole "Alerts" business is complicated. Not everyone agrees with the concept. I do. IMO, knowledge is power. In the dark days before there even was a specific "Alerts" forum, some members attacked other members for alerting the forum to good deals. They were upset when they lost the opportunity to "steal" a deal. IMO it's a marketplace, let the one who values an item the most prevail. Similarly, let the seller who is willing to take the least be exposed to potential buyers. Related to the alerts controversy was the, IMO, misguided notion that once a forum member expressed an interest in an item, others should stay away. I recall members asking other members not to bid on eBay items that they, or a relative, were interested in. IMO, that is naive. It's OK to decide who gets the last slice of pizza over the family dinner table. It's foolish to attempt to allocate the last slice at an all you can eat buffet. The concept of "dibs" should have remained in grade school. At one time or another we're all sellers or buyers. A fair deal is one that is fair to all. Transparency provides an opportunity for the market to work. Please keep posting alerts. It helps sellers and buyers. The only sore losers are the ones who were too slow or too cheap to stike a deal. PS: Arrow- I like your new avatar. I've never seen an Arrow in the flesh. It appears to be larger than a DN. Am I correct?

  28. I wasn't quite sure if any of those 3 items were "good enough deals" to post. So instead of doing the analysis, or being subjected to membership scrutiny, I thought it best to just post my finds - only. See how this can go bad quickly? Post your finds you stingy bastards ! And, if you buy something found on the alerts, acknowledging / thanking the finder / poster wouldn't kill you.

  30. Seller motivation, condition, and final selling price are all variables that tend to be hidden behind the original "listing". There is NO need to rag on a poster for sharing information. Good deal or bad, who cares? If members are paying attention then most here will know rough values and an inquisitive buyer must usually uncover the "rest of the story" from a seller anyway. Keep posting your finds !

  34. I for one without getting political, will never go see another movie he makes after the escapades he pulled calling cops murderers.Ironic that he says that and walks with black lives matter and they publicly call for people to shoot and kill cops. Sorry to sidetrack the thread. His movies however have been very good.

  36. +1 (at least!) to Minermark. Your mother does not think like you. She changed your diapers so there is nothing you know that she didn't know first. And besides, the polite young man at Frys was very nice to her. It would help you to know that manners goes a long way when making a speaker purchase, so please take note, your mother probably thinks you could visit a little more often if you really cared. But I digress. Whatever you suggest to her, even one more button is confusing. Don't argue with me, please just accept that this is true. She would really like it if she could it the "on" button and everything simply worked. It's your job to make that happen. I would suggest some kind of powered speakers connected to the headphones out jack of the TV. If that's a soundbar, then so be it. If you can get HDMI to do that, then we are really in business here. I know most of us audio nerds all like to gang up on Bose, but they make a product a lot of people like. I would say if you could steer her towards a sound bar with better sound for the same money, then you have done your job. Doesn't Klipsch make a sound bar? http://www.klipsch.com/soundbars

  38. Good morning all. Been a while since I've checked in.. Been super busy with the "De-Clutter". Moving from 3700 sqft to 1500 sqft puts A LOT into perspective. Almost to a point where we feel like we aren't tripping over each other and "STUFF". Wife got her Winter Garden in and a temporary chicken coop....got our first half dozen eggs yesterday....will be converting an old work shed into a larger coop this weekend. So far I've replaced about 80% of the plumbing.....fix one thing and then another pops up...think I've just about stopped the bleeding for now. With the move I donated my beloved Sony 55" LCD and Yamaha YSP-5100 Sound Projector to my parents....they've been wanting a flat screen for years and I figured it was best to give it to them rather than get a few hundred for it....they promptly rewarded me with their Klipsch Quintet Micro Theater setup that has been used maybe twice since 2001 along with the KSW-15 that I gave them around the same time. I may use that instead of my Reference stuff....it seems to be too much for the small space and takes up valuable space. I'll get pictures up soon....wife is almost comfortable enough to allow people to come over for a bon fire and oysters

  39. Thanks for the help with the window repair. The guy that framed my house 27 years ago is working on my street and I got him to drop by to look at the windows. He can replace parts of the sill and do a couple of other small jobs. Good day for a bike ride. Cheers Ladies and Gents

  42. Chuck, try this stuff...kind of like bondo but less messy and you only need water. Just mix up a little at a time. You have a short window of time to shape it...before you know it, it is hard as rock. Really cheap too. Do you have Menards down there? Only $2.38 for a 16 oz can. I have used it to fill rotten logs on my log barn and house. It holds up well. You can either try to put a dye in it to match, or paint it. I have not tried dying it.

  43. Morning folks. House is washed! Decorations up. LF leaves for W Va. next Monday for nine days so Jake and I'll do Christmas together. I think Jake wants a rare steak and a longer leash. Does anyone have any experience with a product called Magic Wood for repairing rot on a window sill? A guy proposes to do the repair with that product...says he has used it before. May have to google it. Bondo doesn't work so well for that I hear. Cheers Ladies and Gents BTW....we need a Santa head emoji.
