  11. Everybody who sells an item wants to get the most they can out of it. Everybody who buys wants the least price. It is always a delicate subject here because we have people who follow prices and know what items typically sell for. It is always dependent upon condition, location, and of course supply and demand. Some items are more rare than others. And even the "experts" here are surprised upon occasion that an item might sell higher or lower than what is typical. OTOH if you really want to sell an item the people who post here are a great targeted audience because you don't have to educate them on how great Klipsch speakers are. You can try to sell your Belles for $8K per pair and if you can get that, great. But if you get no responses to your ad at that price, you might want to find out from these experts here how they would value them. I would suggest you ask for forum members to send you a Private Message with their valuation, and reasons for their opinions. You will find people here very honest and it will be helpful to you so you can move the speakers in a reasonable amount of time. Good luck.

  24. Since there doesn't seem to be a lot on the internet about the Klipsch KG 5.2, why not a thread? I'd mentioned in passing to a client that I prefer Klipsch speakers for home listening. He then said that he not only had a pair, but that they'd never been used. It turns out that he's moving, and he'd rather give them to someone than keep hanging onto them. In all fairness, I did mention prior that older Klipsch pairs are often worth a buck; he didn't know the model, but he knew they were about twenty years old. Needless to say, when he said he would give them to me, I said I'd have no problem hanging onto them. I spent some time excitedly going through the Klipsch catalog from twenty-ish years ago. Things were either looking pretty good or a bit rough; the early nineties could mean the KG, Epic, KLF, or Cornwalls, based on how big he said they were. The late nineties/early 2000s, on the other hand, could have meant the early Synergy towers. (Never heard them, but based on how my F-20s were, I don't think I'd like the early Synergy towers) As pictured, they're only set up like that to test them out. Everything works! If they've really never been used like he said, they'll be in need of some break-in. Even still, I'm surprised by how much bass they can make. I'd never liked how these looked in pictures, but they're actually quite visually pleasing in person. These have a visual growl that'll tell your friends, "Yes, they go loud." Why did wide tower speakers go out of style? You'll notice the top of the left speaker has been chewed up just a bit. It also has a scuffed corner now, due to an unloading error. How easily can cosmetic blemishes be repaired?

  25. using my old HK 560 receiver right now. building this out a little at a time. we've got a lot of things going on, with a fair measure of employment insecurity going on too, that includes a possible relocation in the near future. much of that is very undecided. so, until we find out if we'll be moving, and then all the fun of selling our current home, finding & buying the next one, moving & all of that, and then getting a new space setup, hopefully with more room for a better AV center in the living area. once we see how all that plays out, with an updated entertainment center to house the electronics, THEN we can begin considering how we want to go with a new receiver - what kind of AV receiver we want to go with, etc.

  31. I will see your RIDICULOUS and raise you one more RIDICULOUS as to why that ball movement should be a penalty in the first place. The purpose of a rule is to give everyone a level playing field and to make sure a player can't gain competitive advantage so if the ball rolls a half turn, or moves a half inch, then yeah, I can see that. But for a ball to stay in place and shimmy? RIDICULOUS.

  37. With the first speaker taken apart and with a better idea of where we're headed, we will begin to apply each step to all four speakers simultaneously. I have the ok to use my budget to invest in this project...in our own reality show "Flip these Speakers". It looks like we are going to order larger sheets (4x8) of the veneer to meet the La Scala dimensions, so there will be some extra to practice with. A number of years back (this is my 41st year working here) our Clubhouse went through a complete year-long renovation. We moved the wood shop into the gym and the members helped custom fabricate the cabinets, counters and sinks for our third floor arts & crafts studios: woodworking, screen printing, ceramics, jewelry/metal arts (now also bike repair), photo lighting studio and darkrooms (yes, we still process B&W!). I've had a lot of practice with contact cement and plastic laminate, j-rollers and routers but not so much with wood veneers...though we have done some chess boards and geometric inlay. As we are going to be working with much larger pieces of veneer and trying a heat activated glue for the first time your suggestion for a prototype is a good one we'll certainly follow. Thanks for the good thoughts!

However once I got to measuring I just don't have enough room in between rows for nearfield subs. Room is the issue period. Now when we finish the other part of my basement off and if I decide to ditch the second row of seats then the other two 8's I have will come straight down and go behind the couch to pummel my back lol

  42. Update on our rebuild. Made facsimile labels to preserve the serial numbers as the refinishing / painting will make the stamped numbers even more difficult (if not impossible) to see...this will be the only label on one of the cabinets, on the other three they will be sandwiched between the original labels and the plexi covers (none of our labels still show any numbers). Had good success with removing the badges. Citristrip seemed a pretty safe product to use around kids (following the precautions). After removing what looked like three layers of paint, heat was applied to soften the adhesive (a tip from a friend who rebuilds bicycles) and a tape measure "floss" was used to release. Note: acetone was used to remove residual adhesive from the back and it didn't damage the logo surface, Thanks to everyone for the ongoing advise, making the process really interesting...

  43. I've been doing this so long that it's easy to spot the liars. It only takes a few minutes to figure them out. It's getting harder and harder for me to be pleasant talking to them but this is not my company and I'm supposed to represent it professionally. If we break something or cause a failure, I'll be the first one to apologize and take responsibility of the situation. It happens and we're not perfect. If there's ever a grey area, I'll always side with the customer but when people come in with damaged suspension pieces and say they never hit anything, it's hard for me not to tell them politely that they're mistaken.

  44. Congratulations. For decades my only experience with Klipsch was with Klipschorns, Cornwalls, La Scalas and Heresy. If it wasn't plywood with a tweeter from 600 Cecil St., Buchanan, MI, I wasn't interested. Then, through this forum, I was exposed to some of the more recent Klipsch offerings by the HT setups of local members. I was very impressed. Heck, the vast majority of my music listening is at the computer using Promedia 2.1. I'm continually amazed at how fantastic those small cheap plastic Chinese speakers sound near field. Klipsch knows what it's doing.

  45. Sorry, not much "updates" over the past week....it's been quite hectic. We are in the middle of VBS (children's ministry) and Wild Week (youth) at our church so that has consumed all of my time this week but it ends tonight at 9pm. My wife, son and one of my daughters are leaving tomorrow morning for a Missions Trip in Mexico. I have to take them to the airport at 4am (remember me saying I'm not a morning person). ABSOLUTELY! The Phantom 4 is soooo much fun to fly. It's really incredible watching 1st person view on my iPad exactly what the P4 sees while in flight. I can't wait to take it to Alabama this weekend when I visit Shaun. Hoping to get some great shots and include it in a video for the build thread. Honestly, it's easy to fly from the beginning. GPS Positioning allows the bird to hover anytime you let go of the sticks. You just have to be really careful when you are flying with objects nearby (houses, power lines, trees etc). Once you get above those things, you pretty much have free reign to fly without the fear of crashing into anything. No plans myself but apparently guys on youtube are now delivering beer to their friends and neighbors. LOL I did use the Phantom 4 during Wild Week one night when we played Kick Ball Slip n Slide. I bought 4 sheets of 12' x 50', 4 kiddie swimming pools and a kickball. Once they kick the ball, they have to run and slide into the base (ie swimming pool). The youth has a blast. I'll share the video once I get it edited.

  47. There are some very good reasons why it will sound better in your new room: 1) La Scalas, like Khorns, need to be several feet from your listening position in order to "coalesce" into a more-or-less single image (due mostly to time misalignment of tweeter-midrange). If you move the tweeters to the top of their cabinets and move to the back of to align with the midrange driver, you will hear much more improvement in the imaging. 2) Higher ceiling is a big, big deal. The Heritage series of midrange horns all have collapsing polars and will improve their in-room performance when there is sufficient carpet absorption on the floor and the first reflections from the ceiling bounce are further than the typical eight-feet ceilings. 3) Getting the La Scalas spread wider increases the sense of envelopment fairly dramatically, which is one of the two biggies in terms of realism of reproduction (i.e., sense of envelopment) Some of the above is discussed in Toole's excellent book. Chris For some reason I read this in Morgan Freeman's voice, and it made an even bigger impact. Thanks for the input!
