  1. Here is the massive aluminum frame to hold my 150" AT Screen! Holy cow is this thing enormous! We brought in one of the columns to see how it would look. When we raised the screen, the frame just barely touched one of the columns. Shaun asked me to give him some time to think how to fix it. I step out of the room for about 20 minutes to catch up on some emails and when I come back in, he hands me a 1/16" sliver of wood. He ended up using a skill saw to hand cut the back side of the column a 1/16th of an inch so that the column would sit closer to the wall and provide enough clearance for the screen frame to be raised without it touching the columns. Now that was impressive! There is a latch (similar to a hood latch) installed that allows the screen to be raised for easy access to the inside of the cabinet and speakers. It is supported by dual gas shocks. Wooden framing was added to the left and right of the screen that will be used to support the diamond pattern. This diamond pattern turned out absolutely gorgeous! I'll get some close up shots of it after we finish the build. Five carpeted plywood sections are installed to support the LaScala Trio and (4) RSW-15's. These are just sitting on top of the wooden frame so they are very easy to remove to gain access below the carpeted platform. The bottom middle section is attached to sliding rails that will support up to 300lbs. I will finally be able to easily gain access behind my equipment when I need to install or swap out components. Well, that's all for tonight. Will share more pics tomorrow evening. It's not 3:22am....I have no idea how I'm going to function at 7am. Haha. Hope you enjoyed the pics. I know I LOVE what I'm seeing. This is turning out far above what I could have ever asked for. Absolutely incredible craftsmanship.

  2. Good job Ben….it's rewarding to finish a project like that. And makes me appreciate a good mechanic that can do it in a couple of hours. Next up. Spark plugs and wires. Plugs and wires not terribly expensive. One plug so loose jiggling the mushy wire, besides the lovely tingling sensation, would release a puff of exhaust from the engine block..... front one's not too bad... the back ones... well, hiopefully can get back to work and hire a professional. this gets serious. I think recommenced is to drop engine, really drop, probably disconnect more?, and rotate the engine...so would probably require an engine stand.... Almost enough room to access the rear with the engine dropped. almost. Need Flat Stanley Mechanic?

  3. In general for a 2K budget you might want to consider pre-owned. Speakers are one of the things I think you can pick up on the used market and still get good quality and reliability. I prefer to buy electronics like AVR's new, but that's just me. I would buy an amp or AVR from a trusted forum member, but not on Ebay or CL. Again, that is just my personal preference. If you do want to go pre-owned I suggest you give the guys here a chance to guide you in choice of speakers, especially Klipsch. They are very tuned in to what is available regionally and what products are high quality sound. They can and will explain why one product is better than another for your individual needs. And as you found out directly above ^^^ you will also get very straight forward advice if they don't think a certain product is in the best-bang-for-YOUR-buck category.

  4. I cherry picked your dual sub package suggestion, but all of your suggestions would make a tremendous 5.1 setup! You would not need to upgrade for a long time, if ever. I pulled out the sub part of the post because of the Do It Yourself component. I hesitate to suggest DIY because this is the Klipsch forum, not the DIY forum, but I am a HUGE fan of DIY and I recognize not everybody wants to that. The two-sub package w/amp that TWK referenced is the current KING of bang-for-the-buck in dual subwoofers in the DIY world. It hits that sweet spot in the price/performance ratio BECAUSE of the two sub setup. A single sub would still be a great sub and a good value, but adding the second sub does not double the price and it greatly increases the overall sound. I have Ulimax's close cousin, the Dayton Audio Reference 15 sub and mine is fantastic. The kits mentioned are a notch still above mine in every way. The kits w/flatpack are not only easy to put together, they are fun. The performance of the powerful dual subs would MAKE your theater tops for theater with virtually any speakers you would pair with them. Bold suggestion, Mr. TWK. Home run.

  5. Just returned from having my ten year 'procedure'... Since I didn't eat anything at all yesterday, I was ready to have breakfast today. Yum! Fresh rice, some leftover lechon (roast pig) and a couple of eggs. Added a fresh asian mango to top it all off. Finishing a fresh cup of coffee and will take a good nap. Good news is I can wait another ten years before I do it again... Bruce

  7. Hey Ben, I think you can access the back bank of plugs if you pull the intake manifold. Alot of V-6 are set up like that. I've only had a few Caravan's in the shop but I've never done plugs on them....... Carl might know more on this... A tip or two if I may..... When I do ignition components on my customer's cars I will always use OEM parts.. ie: 99% of all Honda's use NGK spark plugs.... a few Denso plugs here and there. If I'm replacing wires I will use ether dealer parts or NGK wires. NGK wire are "aftermarket" but there fit a performance is that of OEM. Also NGK does make wires for some car manufactures. I will never use Autolite spark plugs..... over the years I have pulled put more Autolite plugs out of peoples cars that they have put in. All come in with missfire codes and they tell me it couldn't be the plugs I just did them last year...... what do I find????? Autolite plugs..... IMHO.... price out the ignition parts from the dealer......Oh if the intake has to come off..... get a intake gasket Good luck MKP :-)

  14. so this time what i did was to turn off all eq and see where i was at. before i really only had a null at 72hz. well these being higher up towards my ceiling must have excited a room mode and got rid of that null. so with absolutely no eq applied i just let audyssey run. it smoothed out a tiny bit more down low. so basically to get them all to work together, i stacked them and turned them up. lucky in this room and with my placement. things have been working out for me big time in this room. i have a feeling my next house i won't be so lucky in. but thats ok the challenge will be accepted. i have much more to learn before that next room and have been making friends in all the right places to gain as much knowledge as i can before then.

  20. Hello friends....... Enjoying the 'banter' on exotic woods and the 'cane' grill requests.. Since Dude® was so nice to compliment on my pair of K'Horns I thought I would dig up the photo from years ago after I cleaned and oiled them up... These are the ONLY known pair I have ever seen with WHITE grill cloth, and the Walnut does seem to have hints of red tone in it. From 1968 and made WITHOUT the 'spacer' which was common back in those days. Why these were not made with them is interesting and different. The grain pattern is not too shabby either.. So, for your perusal, here is the photo, and possible idea for the white grill cloth .. PS. Ryan has been to 'Music Hall', and seen them up close and personal, oh yeah, and he heard them too

  29. Last night, when I saw on Facebook that Meat Loaf had collapsed on stage while performing in Edmonton in western Canada, I thought that might be the end of him, but in a few hours it turned out that he was recovering in hospital after suffering from severe dehydration. That was good to hear. We don't need to lose any more rock icons for a while, please. However, the New York Post jumped the gun and declared him dead on their front page, much to the amusement of the New York Daily News: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/ny-post-kills-meat-loaf-digital-editions-singer-not-dead-article-1.2677589 In a video clip recorded from the audience, it appears that he was thinking something like, "Uh-oh, feeling wobbly. Better lie down before I fall down and get injured!" Meat Loaf stops singing, takes a few steps away from the microphone, and heads for the floor. The singing continues, but it's not clear whether it's him or it's backup singers who sound a lot like him. Stage crew members rush over to him, and after about ten seconds the band stops playing. Here's a page about it from CBC News. It seems he has collapsed onstage at least twice before. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/meatloaf-medical-emergency-edmonton-show-1.3639880

  33. I had never heard of RF-7 “Classic” until now. (I see them listed as a discontinued product, but no info.) If it’s the dark cherry pair on craigslist for $800, I’d buy them. (Excellent condition, perfect unused grills in original boxes.) I own one RF-7 and one RF-7 II. Both are capable of great sound quality with the caveat that they can sound bright – so I recommend tone controls. I prefer tube amps with Klipsch. I mostly listen to classical music and opera, plus occasionally big band music. A subwoofer would be needed only if you want really deep powerful bass (e.g., pipe organ pedal notes or obnoxiously loud movie LFE). You can read more about RF-7 (and RF-7 II) on other threads here. I’ve never heard La Scala, so I can’t offer a comparison.

  34. Good advice here. Buying pre-owned can definitely get you more for your money. The only bad part is you have to wait till a deal shows up in your area, or pay for shipping. There's a smoking deal on a great pair of RF83s in the classified section here.

  39. Maybe means nothing, but when I wired my 2014 dodge truck I had the same problem. I was running speaker outputs to a LOC and then to my amps and could not get any sound. Found out that if the factory head unit did not see a load on the speaker output it would not send a signal. Tried a few different size resistors till I got it working. Also check your settings in the menu, sometimes even the best of us miss something simple.

  40. I can't wait to upgrade my receiver. It has Mcacc but it's practically useless. It must be their $0.02 version.. It sets speaker distance and that's it. So that would be for delay only I think. I can't wait to have more sophisticated gear to tweak and tune a room to hit its highest potential.

  47. Full disclosure: I'm an owner of a pair of Forte II (bought new). I've used literally dozens of various amplifiers/receivers with them over the past 26+ years. My speakers have served in many different sized rooms of all kinds of shapes. Never once have I or any other listener complained about "shy" bass response. Their brilliant versatility is exactly why I chose the Forte II back in 1990 when I was picking a "rest of my life" speaker from the Heritage lineup consisting of Cornwall/Chorus/Forte/Quartet, etc. In my experience, and from decades of reading opinions on this forum, I believe the Forte II is the easiest Klipsch design for the majority of listeners to live with in real-world (ie non-audiophile) situations combined with real-world (ie non-audiophile) choices in electronics. Their measured response goes lower (32Hz) than just about every other Klipsch speaker of their generation and the Tractrix midrange horn eliminates beaming, honking, and all other complaints typically thrown at Klipsch speakers and horn designs in general. I have found them to be far less room-dependent, electronics-dependent, and cable-dependent than any other speaker I've owned. In short, they are the perfect speaker...for me, an ordinary average guy. In fact, my love for my Forte IIs and their phenomenal ruggedness and all-purpose utility prompted me to write about them for the Storyteller contest Klipsch held 15 years ago. My story was judged by none other than Billy Bob Thornton and Henry Rollins. It won second place. My story was proof: I have great speakers. Having said that, I believe you might have a bad set of Crites crossovers. Everything else has been covered by other comments above, but it should be pointed out that if your room isn't the culprit, and your electronics are functioning normally, and phase, drivers, or wiring issues can be ruled out, then a crossover issue is all that is left. I have Crites crossovers on my Forte II. When installed, the bass response was unchanged. I got smoother midrange, clearer treble, and an overall sensitivity gain of a dB or two. But my bass stayed exactly the same. Recommendation: contact Bob Crites and ask for help. I have no doubt that he will work with you to make sure you have a good set of the correct crossovers in your speakers. In the meantime, try reinstalling the original Klipsch crossovers and see what happens. Good luck.
