  1. kudos 1.) this is a term that one uses to acknowledge A Job Well Done Over the last almost 3 years, first I have bought RC64ii, then RS62ii, and now two R-115SW's all from Cory. Great guy to deal with, pricing is great, stays in touch, delivered as promised, the very least I can do is a note here. Anyone undecided to do an online purchase I can say Cory hasn't changed a bit in 3 years!

  3. Talk about things getting crazy out of hand...!!!!! Good Grief Now we have a new KHorn owner wondering if his sounds as good as he thinks they do..!!! AaronB123 a room and/or setup can make or break any loudspeaker's reproduction and I promise you they have far more influence overall than any production variations over the last few decades of the Klipschorn or any other heritage model for that matter. I've had my Klipschorns, Jubilees, LaScalas, Belle Klipschs, Heresy II, Chorus, and KPT 904 (With K402/HF Grand HF) in multiple rooms and any of these systems can sound like crap or magical depending on how well the room/setup was brought into balance with the loudspeakers and listener locations. We now have 10 pages of pure speculation with no one except the OP having any first hand experience/knowledge of what he is experiencing. The logical and common sense thing to do at this point is if the OP is interested in continuing to try to find out what is causing the issues he is experiencing would be to wait for the crossovers to arrive and then see what the results are at that point and then work with his dealer and Klipsch. As far as warranty issues give me a break.... if they are willing to send him the networks and he is comfortable in replacing them then why should anyone think warranty might be voided. Changing networks isn't rocket science..!!! I also want to say that I have owned LaScala from the late 80's and have heard the LaScala II on several occasions over several years and IMHO they sounded excellent and were definitely superior versus the original in LF clarity due to the cabinet and crossover improvements of the LaScala II.... While I don't know if Roy/Klipsch can resolve this to the OP's satisfaction I wish him the best. miketn

  4. So, I’m finally getting to understand this friend thing. Once again, a forum member causes me to reevaluate my cynicism of people. I was looking for some advice as I wanted to show my appreciation to a family member, and JimJimbo went above & beyond the call of duty and did more than just help me. His act of kindness wasn’t cheap—it cost him in both money and time; but, that didn’t stop him from immediately stepping up and helping in an area where he was able. I’m still amazed that I’m the recipient of such a wonderful gesture of goodwill. Now a wonderful relative will get a nice Thank You gift and she can get on her knees and thank God that she knows me (and that I know Jim) ... come on, you know i couldn't go an entire post without being a punk. I’m sure you already know this; but, it bears repeating – Jim is a quality individual and his kindness deserves recognition. It is my hope to be able to share this friendship back to Jim and other forum members in the future. THANK YOU JIM. Sincerely, Steve

  7. Everything in place. Have to get some speaker wire and a couple of longer cables and they will SING! Also will make temporary false corners from plywood with hinges. Figure I'll commission them with a PWK recording, perhaps Flem Ferguson and his Dixieland Band from the 1956 KOSY-Texarkana studio session in 1956. Transferred it today and it is truly awesome. Dave

  8. Been really busy since Christmas. After being mostly out of work since last April, I'm back at it full time. Now I wonder how people ever get anything done at home... Nice thing is my wife and I work at the same facility, so we can ride to work together, which will save us some more on gas. Now we can start getting caught up on the bills. (And a power amp from Duder, a pc build I need to run some software I have, finishing the LS cabs... and much more. Must resist and hit the bills first)

  9. Mornin' folks ....looks like C&C has slowed up a bit ....where ya'll at? Still fighting the stupid cold I've had or whatever it is. Gonna see the doc in a bit to see if it's 'whatever' as opposed to a cold. And ... the Colorado front range is bracing for up to a foot of snow plus frigid temps. Our weather wizzards tend to be accurate when it's right on top of them, so this is probably gonna happen. Trusty Pathfinder should be up to it. Wlll try to check back later. Cheers.

  10. @AaronB123 The only reason I sold my pair of La Scala IIs is because I preferred my Palladiums to them. There was nothing wrong with the sound. They could throw a huge soundstage and I wish I could have kept both. For reference I have also owned Heresy IIIs, Fortes, CF-3s, RF7IIs and Klipschorns. There was nothing wrong with the sound of the La Scala IIs

  11. And the jackass award goes to... ME! There were enough posts here to cause me to stay up WAY later than normal, rack my brain and second guess myself (thank GOD). Ultimately, I did a factory reset of my AVR, skipped Audyssey and manually set the EQ for all channels. They seem to sound more on-par with my 78's. I don't get it because I've got those same frequencies Audyssey had set at +6Db no higher than 4Db and yet those frequencies are so much more present than before. Also, I've never had a problem using Audyssey; not with any speakers I've had using all the same equipment in the same room. Again, I thank ALL of you for your input, advice and patience. Too late for a drink now. Tomorrow we'll celebrate!!!

  13. Agree. He wasn't some newbie upgrading from his Bose Acoustimass, he has a solid background with Klipsch, how to power them, how to set them up, and he knew right away the sound wasn't right. He came here for a second opinion and contacted Klipsch directly for help. I don't know what more the man could have done that he hasn't already done.

  14. I think the most important thing is that you like them. You can drive yourself nuts trying to keep up with internet opinions. At the end of the day you are the one enjoying these. If you like them, enjoy them.

  15. Easiest way for me to say what I think. Two VERY good peep! But wait, there's more! I was the recipient of an incredibly kind act in my first year on the Forum. Sheriff Amy hadn't arrived to krush the kruel klipsch klan yet and I had a pretty rough newbie experience. This guy swept down and sent me, at his own expense, a boxed Shure classic arm. He wished to remain anonymous and I've maintained that. That was only the beginning. I've been graced with incredible Forum friends who've supported me, sent me LP's out of the blue, the world's finest...and hardest to come by...record cleaner, and so many other things over the years. But if you act NOW, we'll include incredibly good times at private homes and most of all at Pilgrimage, now Forum sponsored and doubling in attendance every year. To use Nimitz great quote adapted, "UNCOMMON LOVE WAS A COMMON VIRTUE" And that's all I got to say about that... Dave

  19. I'd personally never use a A/V receiver for 2-channel listening but that's just me. Yeah, there are some that do sound decent and have nice features but then you are loaded with all sorts of bells and whistles that can, and do, add noise. Simple is better. Then again, I don't do home theater anymore either. I was in that industry for 25 years including being a Manufacturers Rep. Just let me with a sense of "don't want any of that". But that's personal choice. Definitely glad you got it figured out.

  20. The desktop powered speakers look killer with their K-horn top hat traits. Will be nice to see the driver specs on them. Its also good to see great things come back. Hopefully the Forte III will catch a lot of orders and we might get a Chorus III offering.

It's too cold for me to finish my outside job, so I think I'll apply some satin polyurethane to a wood beam project I'm working on. Maybe I'll just bug you fine folks today The older I get, the more the cold becomes an annoyance. I wish it would snow, at least I would be busy.

  30. If it were me, I would not go with a slightly above entry level AVR for a main setup. The amps will be weak, the DACs/processing will be "entry level", and of course your mentioned "deal breaker". Bill

  31. Well I'm glad you figured it out. Don't feel bad I have seen these posts before. Where at the end it was something that was overlooked. I went to help a friend with his AVR but I never owned one so I started from scratch. Turns out one speaker had shorted wire and it would shut down the whole AVR when ever it got to that speaker. Took me a few minutes to say to myself that speaker is doing it oh and that speaker was a blose..... Walked over looked at the back the banana plugs were touching together...DUUUHHH. To my defense I did not wire them up but I did look at all the connections for polarity like I always do for every system. Well let us know how things sound now that they are sounding better. Maybe A/B the old Scala with the New Scala.

  32. I was blinded by my own experiences. My Onkyo 717 has Audyssey but it is a basic version. It doesn't set EQ the way the better versions do. I didn't think about that. When Pete said he re-ran Audyssey with the new speakers, that sure sounded like the 100% right thing to do. We all saw the EQ graph he put on Post 1 but I didn't really comprehend what it meant. Several people suggested it was the Audyssey settings but I figured he had already done the proper thing so my assumption was that Audyssey could be ruled out as a problem. Did I ever tell you about the time I took my Honda 100 motor apart because I assumed when it quit running on me that I had blown a valve? And did I tell you when I found nothing wrong with the motor and put it back together, it turns out the gas tank was empty? You would think I would have learned the first time, "never assume."

  33. I wonder how many people have their audyssey settings messed up and don't know it? I run purely old school rigs so when my SIL had problems with her stereo, I knew it was probably the processor but it took me three trips to figure it out. The mains were set to big but the frequency cut off was set too high. Pretty sure my SIL would have never figured it out.

  37. I own a couple xo's for the LSii... the stock al-4's sound fine in my room with a good frontend but my room is not hard like OP's. Room treatments couldn't hurt pete, hence my comment about the brick wall.

  38. Two people that were owners of previous versions of lascalas and also other models of Klipsch. These guys had references to be able to make the comments you see here. I think this is a very important point. I am impressed with the OP in this thread that he never backed down about where the problem was (in the speakers).....never doubted his room and setup, his other equipment. He had references. He knew and it was obvious to him.

  39. I've used an Onkyo preamp/processor since 2009 and have been fairly impressed. However, I use active crossovers and external amplifiers since I acquired the Onkyo PR-SC886 (which is the same internal electronics as an Integra DHC-9.9). I've found that the amplifiers are responsible for the majority of the differences in sound. YMMV. I personally recommend AVPs, which are usually better performers than most AVRs, unless you can find exactly what you're looking for in the amplifiers in an AVR and their resulting sound. Using an AVP also makes it much easier if you ever intend to use active crossovers.

  42. Dumb drummer here! Great idea using music to teach drums. If it's fun your daughter has a much better chance of sticking with it. My basic idea of teaching drums is to teach snare drum. If you can play one drum, you can play them all. The best and most basic beat is the single stroke roll L R L R L R and the the double stroke roll, or diddle (2 beats with one stick, then alternate LL RR LL RR etc. Start slow (REAL slow) then accelerate slowly emphasizing all the beats being equal, same sound. Also remember there is an OPEN snare drum roll, and a CLOSED or buzzed snare drum roll. I would teach both, but especially the open roll. I just reviewed several snare drum rolls on Youtube. There are a LOT of really bad ones! So many I couldn't find a good one. A good snare roll is even on both the left and right hands. You should not be able to hear a "pulse" or uneven sound. +++ Songs: It's because I'm old, I would recommend the Beatles, Beach Boys and other band from that era. The daughter can work on keeping tempo and all the songs from that era were simple, straight forward 4/4 time with no tempo changes. Lots of fun and anyone can do it.

  43. Here's the design for the listening and performance area. Dave

  44. Oddly, the acoustics are incredible. I had a Frazier/sub system in there and couldn't believe the sound. I suspect it is the massive volume that makes the difference. The image is very precise and defined, but with a great sense of "space" without any slap. Reverb is very soft and I'd guess about 2 seconds, but the amount is reduced due to firing across the space rather than up and down. Come on up some weekend and see what you think. I'll likely have Roy and Jim over to see what they think. When I renovate the space the listening and performance area will definitely be analyzed and optimized. It will be world-class. Hope to host a "Classic Album Sunday" in a year or so. Dave
