  10. Wire for 7.4.4. You will have trouble doing it later. Run a wire for subs at each wall about in the middle, or a run to each corner for a sub (2nd best location).

  11. Well, I will soon be taking inheritance of some Cornwalls ! What year I am not exact but the pristine condition and the age of the owner I am going to guess 1990's ? I think that puts them in the II range if I read right? My question here is I have read the Caps need replacing at 20+ yrs ? does this sound reasonable and if so what about the rest. Inductors, transformers? I can ohm out a transformer but other then visual I have no way to test a Capacitor....This a good problem to have as these will be a gift! Way to excited

  12. By adding 2 speakers to one speaker out, you will change the ohm load from 8ohm to 4ohm and will cause the amp to run hotter. I personally believe a properly setup 5.1 is better than a non properly setup 7.1

  15. Dave, If I'm not mistaken, BluBitRates is offering the KV-4 for $325 packed and shipped by Fedex. IMHO, I would say that's a pretty good price for this beautiful unit, with the packing service, shipping, and of course included insurance. I would absolutely opt for Fedex over anyone else. I just recently shipped a Mcintosh tube preamp through Fedex with their included packing service, and it arrived in perfect condition. @wvu80, @BluBitRates

  28. I came across this really terrific thread about measuring just how much power is needed for a given listening level. Looking at the results, and knowing that most of the participants are not using speakers nearly as efficient as ours, I thought it might be fun to try duplicating the experiment here. New forum member Albert Zinski has graciously offered to oversee the thread and help clarify/answer any questions which come up. I publicly thank him in advance as I simply don't have time right now to be on the computer for more than a few minutes here and there: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/204857-test-how-much-voltage-power-do-your-speakers-need.html I suspect that it is going to come as a big surprise when folks discover that they don't need 500 wpc to their K-horns for even extremely loud levels! 29. I think Tom is correct here. For an 8 ohm reference impedance, simply square the measured voltage and you're done. So, Derrick's required power is 4 watts. If we look at this differently, we can say the power he measured is 2^2/8= .5W at -12db, -9db would be 1W, -6db would be 2W, and -3db would be 4W. That's as far as we need to go as a -3db sine wave has a peak of zero db. I'll ask Albert about this to see if he agrees with this interpretation. Maynard

  31. I love watermelon. I can, and have many times, eaten a whole one in one sitting (sans salt you barbarians), but the seedless ones lack in flavor, are mealy, have the off taste and texture of badly done cardboard. Even the farmers market watermelons suck. Indeed it's getting harder to find decent strawberries or tomatoes at a farmers market. Why? Because they buy the same seeds, use the same fertilizer and growing practices as the bigger corporate farmers. Now don't get me started about what they've done to peaches!

  32. Tman, Quickly googling all of your list, it looks like a large amount of the equipment (all Control4 equip, Episode e-1230-a, and the Binary B-210) is ideal for setting up a whole home system (i.e. speakers in individual rooms) from a central location. Is that your plan or are you focused on a theatre room/2-channel room only? If not focused on a whole house set up, my opinion would be to sell off that equipment. Setting up a whole home system would ideally be done during new construction. I'm sure others (that probably understand this equipment better) will chime in. Monster HTS 3600: This is your power conditioner. Plug it into the wall and then have all of the other components plugged into this unit. Supposed to protect against lighting strikes damaging your equipment and filters your power to components. Does this actually provide cleaner power to your components? probably. Is there an audible difference? that's up to your ears. KL-7800THX - run speaker wires into the RX-V3900 RSA-500: Run the "Subwoofer Out" from your RX-V3900 to this and then connect your RW-5802 to the "speaker-in" on the RSA. Congrats on your deal.

  33. Thanks Youthman, another quick question for you. My room is 15x25. I have 2 stages of couches first one is 10FT from front, the other is 13FT. I placed the subwoofer to the far right front but ill be honest because I have no false wall it is fairly cluttery. In your honest opinion should I keep the sub right where it is, or could I place it all the way in the back? Cabling is not an issue I can crawl above, and to the sides. I know you have a few 15s do you keep all their gain knobs at 0 and adjust from the amplifier? Thanks!

  36. I believe most distortion measurements include noise. The noise ratio gets higher as the power increases. I believe that is why a lot of distortion measurements start higher, tail down lower as power increases and then go into high distortion when power supply and output devices have reached close to maximum. If the noise is very low, it likely doesn't matter against the low output.

  37. For reference... I've owned both Forte I and Forte II (and Chorus II and Quartets as well)... And loved them all! But it's been a long time since I had a chance to listen to any of them (I own LaScalas now), so my opinion is based on my memories at this point. For me the Tractrix midrange in the Forte II and Chorus II was a huge step up from the exponential midrange in Forte I. And from what I briefly heard from the Forte III, the new mumps Tractrix is more of an incremental improvement. It still has that great, smooth midrange, with just a bit bigger/deeper soundstage. The bass did seem to be better (more solid) and a bit deeper... again compared to my memories of the Forte II. But that could be the room as well. Though, as my pictures show, they were well away from the corner and the walls. So my guess is the slightly bigger cabinet allowed them to tune it just a bit lower. Overall, I'd say that anyone who buys a pair won't be disappointed. And even with the increased cost they would probably still be the best thing (dollar for dollar) Klipsch makes for home music use. Unless they make a Chorus III... And compared to a Heresy II, they would be a huge step up the ladder. Just don't listen to any of the big heritage (Khorns or LaScalas) before you make your final decision to purchase.

  39. Actually, the Promedia 2.1 sounds good, and will play louder than the dorm officials would want it to. When the authorities respond to noise complaints she could say, "Wait, it only has a 35 w.p.c. amplifier! We use a Promedia 2.1 attached to the TV/DVD/CD in our bedroom. After several years, we added EV T35 tweeters (basically the same as the ones -- K77s-- used in La Scalla, Klipschorns, and the discontinued Belles, Cornwall and Heresy Is), along with X36 crossovers (Xover at 3,500 Hz @ 12 dB/octave) and Centralab L pads. They sound pleasantly brighter. When one of us has insomnia and the other wants to sleep, the Lpad can be turned up, not down, and the main volume way down, now possible because the boosted tweeter makes speech very clear and intelligible at a very low volume. That's where the people who make TVs for motels usually get it wrong; several we have seen have severely attenuated treble, meaning travelers who wish to be considerate, and listen at low volume, often can't, so they may turn it up, and the lower midrange, and what bass there is, goes right through the walls. EDIT: It turns out the old P 2.1 were 18 wts continuous for the satellites, and 65 wts continuous for the sub. The new (Bluetooth) ones are 35 wts continuous for the satellites and 58 wts continuous for the sub. Hey, everything is below 150 wts.!

  41. Only thing I'll hurt dtel is my budget for the rest of 2017! The nuances of what sounds good to me or to you just can't be explained in sappy Hallmark card words. I read so much of that last year looking for a receiver and then a half-assed new turntable. One thing I expect from all of y'all Klipsch fans is that the sound we're seeking is true, tonally correct, bass is realistic too. No muddy crap, "No Bullshit!" Soft & rich for the background or loud at the schoolyard 3 blocks away for glow in the dark frisbee. Klipsch doesn't have any substitute in my book.

  42. Wouldn't excessive cone movement damage result in cracks/separations that go around as opposed to radially?

  43. This appears to be another perfectly OK thing made bad by the laws. Had some of the stuff when it was legal in Texas, original K2. Very nice and apparently actually pretty much synthetic THC or very close. Then, they made it illegal and the makers kept changing the formula and it eventually apparently wound up pretty nasty. Went the same way as the "real" stuff. Perfectly good pastime rendered illegal and dangerous ignorance. Dave
