It's not often I find myself without words but every time I think about my dad (dtel), I'm left speechless. He's a spitting image of my Paw Paw. He's sarcastic even when sarcasm is the least appropriate. He's a prankster. He is always 100% bluntly honest (he has no filter between his brain and mouth). He's the best dad I could ever ask for and an even greater Paw Paw to all of these wild hooligans he calls his grandchildren. If you ask Rylee, my 11 year old chocolate freak, she'd tell you he's hider/keeper of the chocolate covered cherries and all things sweet. If you ask Allie, my 16year old, she'd say he has the best taste in music (Bob Marley and Jamaica, mon!) and has the "most bumpin' system EVER". He really is all-around a jack of all trades. I've seen him build/construct/put together some of the neatest contraptions! He's an excellent woodworker, just like my Paw Paw was. The kids would all say "if Paw Paw can't fix it, NOBODY can. It's trash!" There is absolutely nothing my dad can't do...building, welding, cooking, operating equipment, plumbing, electrical, mechanical--you name it. It's only fitting that I sing his praises today since it's his 60th birthday!!! Dad I love you and hope you have the best birthday EVER!!!!! Thank you for being the man you are, the daddy you are, and the Paw Paw you are!!! ❤️🎉🎂🍦🎈🛍 (Please excuse the terrible iPhone picture.)9 points

Well Thank You Jennifer and Christy, and everyone else, I did not do anything except wake up everyday. I can't believe I made it this long, I would have never thought it. No special plans today or tonight, but I will get to cook the next few days for friends and family, I like to eat so I like to cook. Carl I didn't know you were that old, I feel a little better now. Thanks everybody5 points

Thabk you for posting @Dtelsdaughter By the way your old moniker was @just_like_dtel! Love you Jennifer!4 points

As a teenage audiophile I lusted after Klipsch speakers such as the Klipschorn and La Scala. They were way too big and expensive however, but they just looked like they would sound good. And they had ridiculously high sensitivity. In the late 1950s JBL and Electrovoice used horns in their best speakers as well. I have been looking for another speaker system for some time now and wanted something different from my Thiels….that is, not just another 3 way cone system. I came across the Forte IIIs and they seemed to meet my criteria…..high efficiency, horn-based. I didn’t think they would necessarily be better than my Thiels but different in a way that I would find appealing. They are very close on most sonic parameters. Tonal balance and smoothness are about the same. The 3.6s have lower bass extension, somewhat better image specificity and a bit more depth to the sound stage. Apart from these differences, the Fortes still shine in those areas. I initially worried that they would have a distinctive “horn” sound. Not so. Their general tonal character is no different from my Thiels. The area where the Fortes standout is the one I anticipated: dynamic range. Loud, sudden bursts pop out of the soundstage with greater impact and crispness with no noticeable strain or distortion. They really strut their stuff on Jazz at the Pawn Shop, Santana’s Sacred Fire, the 4th movement of Mahler’s 1st Symphony, and any balls to the wall version of The Rite of Spring. This is not surprising given the difference in sensitivity, 86db verses 99db. I have read that for each 3db increase in sensitivity means you need half as much power. The great thing about well-made high efficiency speakers with high power handling (the Forte’s are 100 continuous 400 watts peak) is you get greater dynamic sound with reduced demand on your amp and perhaps less distortion. Overall, I believe my Thiels are bit more refined but the Fortes win out in the boogie competition. The Fortes work well with my tube mono blocks and solid state XPA-2. However, the tonal balance is bit more linear on the XPA-2. $3600 isn’t inexpensive by civilian standards but as true audiophile quality speakers, I think they’re a bargain. I use a sub with both my Thiels and Fortes. I can’t position the Fortes near a back wall as recommended. If you can get to Knoxville, TN area, I have two of them (dual drivers each) that do NOT have any drivers....that you could have for free. So, for the cost of the drivers alone, you could have a nice foundation.3 points

Know what? I've found that a few of the most boneheaded people I've met really have a lot to offer. And some of those actually know something! But please let me know if things go sideways. I'm free for the weekend.2 points

That may apply to Bill; but, not me. If I showed up at Hope -- you all would run & hide. Then i’d be wandering around the area wondering where everyone went. And being nearly deaf, i can’t follow the music anymore2 points

Happy Birthday dtel, you've contributed a lot of useful knowledge and experience here that has helped more than you know. I'll find that old Beatles record with the song on it and blast it on my Forte IIIs for ya!2 points

Thanks. They did find 3 polyps, she cut them out, will test 1 but she said I had a nice log flume (Carl's words) Holy Heck!! Thanks Birthday Boy. I will always remember your birthday. It's the day I had my first anal probe! I heard salsa passed up ketchup a few years ago as America's favorite condiment.2 points

You can't really expect us to believe, that even for a second you couldn't remember, I could have even guessed DelTaco, probably with ketchup.2 points

You are a lucky man. I’m envious. With the love surrounding you, it’s no wonder you’ve made it to 60. I really wish you a happy birthday.2 points

I knew the old one but it would have taken 24 hours to reset the password so I just started a new one. @Ceptorman---"just_like_dtel" ...hmmmm...what's that tell you??2 points

I'm already home, was pretty easy, especially when you don't remember a thing after the sedation. I did see one of my daughter's friends Mom in the operating room. She was more talkative than I've ever noticed. I said hi! I normally see you in the halls of the high school, but this is nice too A cheeseburger is always on my radar, but I had a couple leftover homemade burritos instead.2 points

Happy Birthday Elden! No monkey business on your day. The orangutan in your avatar is a primate, it has no tail, unlike a monkey. You, on the other hand, have many tales, but no one can make a monkey out of you.2 points

I've tried amplifiers that by the specs and extremely low THD should have sounded amazing only to rip them out after a few days of listening. Among a few I tried were NAD and Tripath but I couldn't do it for long. Tripath was just terrible. There is indeed more going on than specs suggest.2 points

Uh, is there some photoshop involved here? Claude, did the MWM come up that high on your waist? Your right hand looks small. No doubt, I've heard MWMs side by side compared to Jubes with same track going......MWMs were awesome. BIG foot print. Granted, When I heard the Jubes at Hope this past year in a barn and not in corners, they sound even better than I remembered.2 points

Are you feeling a bit anxious? I wouldn't blame you if you were, I know I was just before my procedure. I dealt with my anxiety with the usual inappropriate male humor. You can say anything you want to the nurses, they just laugh too. +++ Carl is probably wondering "what the heck is this crap on my amp thread?" Free bump, Carl, free bump.2 points

The KG series, I believe. I bought a new SW-8 in '94. Still have it. Agreed, not very exciting only because they're 20+ years old. Lots of improvements since. I'll let you know if I see RB-61 IIs.2 points

Now we're cookin'! Good job getting those up and running. It seems simple but it's confusing if you haven't done it before. +++ Static: There are a couple of things that could cause that static. It could be in the speaker itself or it could be in the Sony receiver. I doubt the problem is with the phone or the TV. Speaker: Reverse the speaker wire from the left to the right and see if the static follows the wires or of the static stays with the speaker. Then we'll know how to troubleshoot a little further. That static might be something that can fixed fairly easy if it's in the Sony.2 points
