  2. Lily is doing extremely well. Being young they bounce back quicker like kids? Here is a week... Sunday was her first day time walk around the block. (Prior to this I had her walk at night a couple times to get her used to the "sights" as best as she could by our neighborhood street lamps and scent to break her in slowly) Lot's of stops and hesitation. Took half an hour to go around our circular block that with normal walking is maybe five minutes. (Five time around it is a mile) Monday same thing and less hesitation but still stop and go. Kinda jerky walking with leash. Fifteen minutes this time. Making progress! Tuesday decided to take her on my usual big oval three miles walk that I do and she did great. Still a little leery of people going either on their own morning walk/jog/cycling and would hug my leg for "protection". Even the HOA landscape guys were suspect as she would tip toe past them. Wednesday semi normal walk around and learned to sit before crossing the street. Proud of her! Oh and walked past the HOA landscaper sloowly but did good. Lotsa "atta girl" belly & head rubs. Today she trotted along side of me while I huffed and puffed shuffled this 230 lbs as best as I could. She was on her tippy-toes light as ever like a butterfly. I was envious her. I let her know between gasp of breath I would have outrun her at 18. Felt better after that. Now this is how she greets us every morning... https://photos.app.goo.gl/FZrsZPuj8UvRC0wp2 So progress is slow and she still occasionally reverts back to her crouching when I walk towards her sometimes. But follows me around the house freely. She's potty trained too. Our two older daughters came over along with the two our grandsons ages 3-5. Lily did OK with our daughters and more importantly our grandkids. Sniffing them (everywhere ) and walking with them. It's obvious she likes kids. Our middle daughter (26) used to work for SPCA so she knew right away seeing her the first time. Lily came right over to her. She loves that family room couch you see in the video. Exhausted, yesterday I took a nap in the formal living room and Lily woke me up with kisses and lots of butt wagging. I'd been out two hours! Vet check up Friday to assess her weight and overall health. Hopefully she's gained a little fat. Thanks for asking. My face after her sneak attack..got the boxer kiss.... yuk!

  3. Good morning CC&C Crew (at least still so in Alaska)! Just wanted to say hi and that I really enjoy reading this thread even though I so randomly post and flee again! Have a rarity in my world in that last week I spent 10 days in Hawaii with my wife, the boys and her parents. We had a GREAT time! Natural Vitamin D in Feb/Mar for Alaskans is wonderful! (also why they have almost daily full flights direct from Anchorage to Maui! ) Home this week and leave Saturday for Florence and Rome with my mother. I've never done back to back trips like this, but I am so grateful to be able to spend quality time with my family! It's still bouncing between 6 and 26 right now - but with the clock flip Saturday night - It will probably be light out until 7:30ish @ night (from 3:15 on Dec 21) and spring should finally feel like it's commencing! Aloha and Ciao! Hope you're all well! One day I hope to make the trip to Hope and meet a bunch of you!

  7. Alright @BigStewMan you just dated yourself as an old guy like me. Could you imagine some of the young-ins in their 3" off the ground cars that scream 6k rpm when they're doing 45mph going over the humps at a drive-in???

  13. Long ago there were only a handful of decent yeasts. I had built up a yeast library by culturing small traces from bottles with live yeast still in them and growing them up. I stored samples in test tubes with a mix of things that prevented the cell walls from being broken when frozen. When I needed that yeast again I could take a small amount and grow it back up to size. Now there are several decent companies that sell various yeasts for the style/type of beer you want to make. And yes the yeast makes a huge difference in the final product. I try to plan my brews so that I can grow a sufficient amount for a lighter gravity beer (end products has less alcohol) lighter color, and less hoppy. Then reuse that yeast for 2-6 more batches with stronger beers, darker beers and more hoppy beers. Not a hard fast rule but typically you try to go up in alcohol, darkness and hops. For me the yeast is the most interesting part of brewing. I've made several beers using coffee....but that is for another thread, no? Found a few pictures of my Port-o-Beer contraption I built. It is a cooler on wheels that holds two 3-gallong kegs. Its had a few iterations over the years but now it has a small paintball C02 canister and a regulator for dispensing. Everything self-contained inside the cooler. It's been to numerous St. Patrick's Day parades and will go to another on the 17th. The last picture is of it at the UofM v PSU game at PSU a few years back. I was the only one in head to toe Michigan garb. I was not the most popular person there, but I did have my own beer. BTW, I'm taking these pictures I'm not in any of them.

  22. yes, that would have been cool to see. I have listened to that album more times than i can count. The first time i heard it was when i was a teenager, tagging along with my brother and his friend going to the drive-in movies. It was on an eight-track player. First time i head one of Rick’s solos -- i was hooked.

  23. It was cool but the rain quit and I had the windows down jamming on "Close to the Edge" all over the south side today. Should have snapped photos of the looks I got from different folks that were enjoying the fresh air today. When he was jamming on the keyboards at one point at a light near Southpark (the mall they built near my house in `69 not Chef & Cartman) a dude my age just held up his lighter and lit it. Priceless!

  30. If my hair gets much longer, I will be curling haHaha Made the trip to the lake.. Was nice. Saw some deer just as I was leaving town. Appears the BorderPatrol have a new toy. A new tower. One with more sensors.. Ruby Rd was paved/patched enough to drive on the road. It had gotten so bad, even the BP were driving on the shoulder. They road to the lake had been graded. I guess they were expecting me. Caught some nice gills. 10in+. Barely made it home. I am blaming on my Dr. I have a bad back. She told me to do as much as I can. It won't hurt.... it will keep me from worse faster. What she meant was, "It won't KILL you". Hurt???? I got plenty of that. Almost walking. almost

  31. We've been doing this for maybe six months. Easy to make and turns out quite well. 1 (.25 oz) package active dry yeast 1 t white suger 2 1/2 cups flour 1 cup warm water (110 degrees) - microwave for 60 seconds 2 T olive oil 1 t salt Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In medium bowl, dissolve yeast and suger in warm water. Let stand 10 mins until creamy. Add flour, salt, and oil and mix together. Let rest 5 mins. Roll dough - makes roughly 4 personal sized pizzas, or make them thicker if you like. Move onto a slightly greased pan, dusted with corn meal (optional, and really good!). Add sauce (we've been using organic canned) and toppings. bake 15-20 minutes. We usually bake the crusts alone for about 6 minutes, add toppings, then bake for another 10 minutes. Makes for a crispier crust.

  34. I think everyone loves low distortion whether they realize it or not. They may not be aware of what they are appreciating. If I invite people to my house and we are hanging out in the cave, there is no appreciation for 3d sound, imaging, sound stage, or vocals in the middle of the room. They have more interest in the furniture and walls vibrating, clarity, details, dynamics, and maybe stereo separation. If I'm on my own, fire up the tube CD player, tube preamp and tube amps...and move the Cornscalas out about 3 feet from wall and about 10-15 feet apart........break out the wiskey or scotch....then there is a different kind of appreciation goin' on.

  38. Moray, I can't agree with this. Differences in sound when trying the various impedance taps are caused by a slight shift in output stage distortion characteristics since the speaker impedance variations are reflected back to the opt primary. In the case of the HF-81, the global fb loop is taken from the 16 ohm tap so that almost the entire secondary (there is also a 32 ohm tap if I recall correctly- please tell me if that is inaccurate) is "active." And, of course, the nfb does make the output stage fairly immune to the impedance variations anyway. It's simply a matter of using whichever tap provides the most pleasing sound with a particular speaker. Maynard

  42. I guess I’m allowed to threadmance my own thread. Almost a year after I started this post, and nine months since I last posted, the Fortes are now sitting in front of me. I’m currently listening to Bill Evans Trio “Sunday at the Village Vanguard” on vinyl through my tube amp, and wow. Not overly harsh, unbelievable ambience, and gorgeous sound in general. Some of the first rock tunes I put through were a mixed bag. But this? Wow, just wow. I now finally hear the “live music” that people claim Klipsch delivers better than other speakers. I think these here will make an excellent complimentary set to the B&W 683 beside them. Amazing what a difference the upstream electronics and room make. Like a different speaker than I demoed. Wonder what the Mrs will say when she sees them.....
