  3. Les MacCann Heavily influenced by blues and gospel, pianist Les McCann was one of the pioneers of soul jazz, along with Ramsey Lewis. In 1969, Les McCann performed with jazz saxophonist Eddie Harris at the Montreux Jazz Festival. In the 1970s, Les McCann released numerous other records as a singer, with clear soul and funk influences. In 1971, McCann and Harris performed with Wilson Pickett, The Staple Singers, Santana, and Ike & Tina Turner in Accra, Ghana, in a concert before 100,000 Ghanaians. The concert was recorded as the documentary Soul To Soul and released on DVD in 2004. In 1975, he toured with Klaus Doldinger's Passport (heard on Doldinger Jubilee '75). In 2004 he performed with Cornell Dupree (guitar), Ronnie Cuber (tenor saxophone), Gordon Edwarts (bass) and Buddy Williams (drums) at the Jazzwoche Burghausen, where he presented his song Little Blue Volkswagen, among others. " Music lets me be " Produced by Esmond Edwards & Les MacCann , 1977 , ABC Records

  5. Taxi Driver, original soundtrack, 1976. Bernard Hermann Edit: The music by Bernard Herrmann was his final score before his death on December 24, 1975, and the film is dedicated to his memory. EDIT: For a Scorsese film, Taxi Driver is relatively light on popular music: the extensive pop culture quotation that many people associate with his films would come with bigger budgets. The only noticeable instance in the film is a scene where Jackson Browne’s “Late for the Sky” plays as Travis watches American Bandstand. There’s a lyrical reference of sorts in the way that Betsy quotes Kris Kristofferson’s “The Pilgrim” to describe Travis: “He’s a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction/Taking every wrong direction on his lonely way back home.” But there’s one literal needle drop that is easy to overlook, and it might be the most audacious of Scorsese’s career. It comes in one of the few scenes that does not involve Travis at all, a discussion between the teenage prostitute Iris (Jodie Foster) and her pimp Sport (Harvey Keitel). As he attempts to seduce Iris, Sport puts a record in a stereo, drops the needle, and out comes a slight variation of Bernard Herrmann’s score for the movie. It’s genuinely jarring when it happens, a postmodern moment thrown into the middle of a movie that to this point has felt grounded in psychological realism. It would be like if The Graduate had a scene where Benjamin Braddock went to a Simon & Garfunkel concert and they played “Mrs. Robinson” for him. (https://thespool.net/features/taxi-driver/ )

  8. I know it's surely a superb machine (must be for the $$$), but it looks too much like an industrial robot to me... I like my wooden plinths and metal arms and tables... It's just me rambelin´...

  9. There is a small scandinavian TT Manufacturer called " Bergmann " Audio. Bergmann aims to develop air-bearing turntables and air-bearing tangential tone arms with the least amount of parts.

  10. My current electric guitar amp is 100 watts class A/B with a class A preamp. Kind of hard to describe but it feels very natural compared to some other solid state amps I’ve played.

  12. Well friends ...a third arm will make it complicated to put a record on the TT 🤣

  15. There's a back story on all of that according to EC. Then there is also another story about his current wife, which I know is crap. It would be a short novel for me to write and no one would believe it so there's that.

  20. 25 right now in Ohio. Who knows what's up here with the weather? It is what it is I guess. Sitting here wondering if the G men are going to show to pick up the garbage. Yea, that's all that's on my mind. Lil dusting of snow but that's about it. You all can just keep that snow

  21. A balmy 29° for this time of year. we finally got some snow. We had temps in the 60’s all last week.

  22. After some extremely unseasonably warm weather.... mid to upper 60's into the the 70's for the past two weeks... including yesterday, it is snowing today like crazy, following some sever wind and rain last night. In North Carolina, if you don't like the weather, just wait for a minute, it'll change.

  24. I wish I had said this: "If an audio company is able to violate some fundamental law of physics, chemistry, magnetics, etc., these are the kinds of discoveries that win you Nobel prizes and millions of dollars. A transformer lamination alloy that would allow for significantly higher flux density than what we have now would be worth a lot of money. This kind of tech tends to trickle down into audio rather than the other way around." https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/carver-crimson-275-measurements.29271/page-13

  26. Two things for me one had I known it was a 15wpc amp I would not have bought new / paid full price and two resale value is likely to be seriously impacted. While its true the amp works great for me and I have no plans to sell I don't think I'm alone in not wanting to be deceived especially when the deception cons me into paying more for something than I otherwise would have.

  28. I’m in Spruce Pine at 2600 ft above sea level and my office is up in Banner Elk at about 3750. I’ve been getting pinged all weekend that a power supply in our core switch is acting up so I really should go in tomorrow. I guess I’ll see what Mother Nature thinks about it in the morning.

  32. What I have come to realize quickly and which likely bothered me quite a bit at first is that the bass drops off STRONGLY in class A over class A/B. However, after much listening, it brings a much better balance to the mix and those sweet sweet highs are incredibly detailed and in line this way. The reach out and touch it factor on better recordings alone is worth it, surely. For rhythm driven music solely, this certainly may not be the best choice IMO. I think more amps should be made like this plinius with pure class A or pure class A/B...

  38. When you get really, really bored today, there are some interesting comments by Frank Malitz on Audiogon's forums re: the Crimson 275: https://forum.audiogon.com/users/fmalitz/posts Its worth reading if only to find this comment in an early review of the amp: "Concerned about the unit’s lack of weight, I called Frank Malitz, Bob Carver’s partner, and who is the current owner of the Bob Carver Corporation, he explained the light weight is due to the proprietary output transformers which actually had a better signal-to-noise ratio due to the nature of the winds, he advised adding more heft was destructive to the soundstage. The other reason he mentioned its lighter weight revolves around the power transformers, all three use a special steel, high-efficiency alloy, due to “magnetostriction”, which forces changes to steel’s molecular structure, which is common in transformers, requiring more sophisticated materials if the transformers are intended for high-performance audio use. Frank also explained Bob claims his specifications for the alloy and the winds are unique to this brand resulting in a high-efficiency yet lighter design. Mr. Malitz claims 90W x 2 within specification, and 130 W at 3% THD which David Manley, founder of VTL, Manley Laboratories, claims is not audible in a tube circuit, but Frank mentioned you can contact him through the Bob Carver website and he’ll send you a white paper on the topic. " Of course the bragging that Carver has no service department because they never need repairs is good too.

  39. I do not think it is AWD - the engine on the C8 does not drive the front wheels - hooked to only the rear wheels. This is my Grand Sport and it is a fun car to own and drive

  40. I would not let what you read about the F4's give you doubts about your F3's... ..If you're so concerned, see if your dealer will allow you to bring your F3's to the store to compare them to the F4's (side-by-side, volumes carefully matched). Chances are, you will find the improvements that people go on and on about will in reality be very very subtle. EVERY speaker I've ever owned was described as being vastly superior to the previous generation and vastly inferior to the next. Yet, in EVERY case where I was able to directly compare one generation to the next (side-by-side, volumes carefully matched), the differences ended up being very very subtle - so subtle that in some cases you'd be hard pressed to distinguish them while blinded. This was true even in cases where the cabinet was re-braced and EVERY driver was supposedly upgraded and improved. And when a difference was heard, it wasn't necessarily an improvement. So enjoy your Forte III's. ...They're great speakers. ..And stop being overly influenced by the gushing of those who bought the latest “new and improved” version.
