  1. Yes it is very obvious that some recordings have been engineered/marketed to sound best when played over very compromised systems and environments like car audio systems over the past decades and those are a lost cause as far as any EQ correction. Recordings engineered/marketed with Tonal Balance issues I find can be improved and enjoyed with well designed Program EQ like the McIntosh designs (especially the 8 band version). I’m impressed with the Loki Max design features and especially the ability to adjust from the listener’s seat. From the Specs I wouldn’t expect any noise floor issues if implemented and used properly so I’m curious what your experience is in that regard especially considering the Jubilee sensitivity…? miketn To obtain the maximum benefits and enjoyment of using the McIntosh EQ Controls I have part of my system setup within easy reach from my listening position.

  2. Speaking to others with Jubilee, or Jubilee-level speakers, doesn’t it seem odd sometimes that some features in a recording are only audible with a premium system? I don’t mean the sound of a guitarist’s fingers on the strings, or other audio subtleties, I mean parts of the performance that the performers and engineers worked to include, but are inaudible with 90-95% of the systems they’ll be played on. A personal example is the song Rainy Day, Dream Away by Jimi Hendrix. I’ve been listening to this song for over 50 years, on a variety of systems, so I thought I knew it pretty well. However, I was listening to it a few months ago, and I heard a word I didn’t know was there. At one point, Jimi sings, “Do you know what I mean?” That’s what I’d heard all those years, but this time, I heard “Do you know what I mean, brother?” The word “brother” is quite a bit lower in volume than the rest of the sentence, but it’s easy to hear once you’ve heard it. I’ve upgraded my system over the years, from original La Scalas with 510 horns and K-69-A drivers, up to its current La Scala IIs with 402 horns and K-691 drivers. My conclusion is that the 691 drivers added that last bit of detail retrieval, allowing that faint word to be heard. Incidentally, that was on the LP, so those grooves still have secrets for us to hear. With your Heritage Jubilee system, I expect that you’ll be hearing new things on old songs. It should be very interesting, and rewarding.

  3. I take zero pills other than a vitamin I check no boxes on the medical form profiles. No bleeding gums etc..... 60's, walk a mile per day, ride a bike 10 miles weather permitting, can bench my weight 250lbs would rather be lifting 210 lbs..... maybe someday Have no difficulty walking 3-5 miles The human body is made to perform physical work and lots of walking. If you don't walk, you don't have an immune system, and moving food through the digestive process becomes much more difficult. Your sinovial joints aka knees don't get lubricated and fed, reducing mobility You don't burn your calories, and the body stores the energy as fat. You don't metabolize the toxins in your body Likely you don't get enough sunlight to function properly A mile a day after dinner seems to be sufficient, a minimum std. The primary solvent used in the body is water, lots of it. Soft drinks, fruit juice, and alcohol are unnatural to the diet and place stress on the liver and kidneys Cigarettes are poison IMHO the more processed the food, the less you benefit The mental health and social aspect of cooking, socializing in the kitchen area, and preparing the food can not be under estimated. Sugar is a heavily processed food that tastes good, damn them ! Growing herbs is easy as are veggies such as Kale which produces like crazy once on line. Fruit, veggies, herbs are necessary for the digestive tract to function properly If you are performing physical work or sports, carbs seem essential to me. Unprocessed foods that taste good, generally are good, the reverse is true. My two cents

  4. Just fired-up my ancient reel-to-reel tape deck -- wanted to see what, if anything, was on some old tapes. Threading the tape over the heads, through the pinch roller, and onto the takeup reel brought back memories of the rituals that we used to go through with R2R. Playing vinyl has similar rituals. Audio used to be participatory. Remember? Watching the reels turn is mesmerizing.

  9. I agree except for the fasting part I work 8-10 sometimes 12 hour shifts and I require fuel to keep my mind right- running too low on calories makes me rummy in the head. I also believe that exercise or physical activity go hand and hand with diet as both are important and need to be balanced. Staying active to me is just as important as eating right. Curious to here your thoughts on this or anyone else's?

  13. It makes you wonder, doesn't it? The USG has plenty of scientists, doctors, researchers, and people capable of rational thought within it's myriad bureaus, and yet when it came to one of the most important goals - keeping the public healthy - the failure was monumental and no one can claim it was an accident or mistake. It was all very purposeful. The McGovern Commission had held TEN YEARS worth of hearings on the subject! 1. The chief theorist relied upon was not even a medical doctor. Ancel Keys was an oceanographer. 2. The man who actually wrote the guidelines was neither a doctor or scientist or nutritionalist. He was a labor reporter with zero training in any science. 3. The "data" fabricated by Keys was known alrready by real scientists to be fraudulent associations - not trial data. 4. Now, 50 years later there is still not one shred of scientific evidence gained from any trial that can demonstrate cholesterol causes heart disease. There is not a shred of evidence that saturated fats cause heart disease. 5. In spite of all this, the USDA is stilll running down the same track promoting "polyunsaturated fats". What are the conclusions one can draw from that set of events? My conclusion is that they knew exactly what they were doing, why they were doing it, and whom the beneficiaries would be.

  18. Hello Mark, Glad to see you back on the forum! I have a JM Peach that you brought back to better than new condition (RMA #P113). I'd like to have it looked it again. Have you gotten back in the business of repairing these units or can you recommend a repair shop? I have a local repair shop that would do the work if they can get a copy of the schematic. Maybe you'd be willing to consult with my local technician? I'm very impressed that you moved away from carbohydrates and have obviously been very busy training yourself on how to get healthy! We definitely share many of the same viewpoints on nutrition. And very well done on striving to achieve one-meal-a-day! I've been off carb's for 26 years and have been doing OMAD for about 10 years and I also do a water fast for 3-4 days every 4 months or so. The procedure to rehabilitate one's health by getting rid of insulin resistance and making the transition from consuming mass quantities of sugar to running on ketones isn't as easy as one might think. It's not just that the food nowadays is mostly of negative nutritional value, it's because most everybody is physically in a such state of extremely poor health than they know or they'd care to admit or they are much worse off than they think. Not only is the average intestinal tract generally incapable of absorbing essential nutrients due to years of abuse and neglect, but organs like the liver, gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys and spleen are in such bad shape that it's a wonder that most people are walking around at all. Getting healthy is not just a simple matter of switching to eating better quality food and cutting out toxic things like alcohol and grains. What has to happen is a gradual process where the body has to essentially rehabilitate and repair the entire system and restore it to proper functionality. It's a wonder that it can straighten it all out and heal it up at all, but it's a very tall order after 50 or more years of total neglect and degradation.

  20. In early summer last year, I acquired a pair of 1986 La Scalas. They had suffered a little over the years: a dog had chewed the cabinet corners and mice had made their presence known in the doghouse. However, apart from a coat of polyurethane over the Raw Birch plywood, they were entirely original. After having wanted La Scalas for more than 40 years, I was a bit underwhelmed by how they sounded. Fortunately, this forum provided a wealth of ideas, suggestions, and advice on how to improve my system. Over the course of the past year, I’ve: Disassembled and cleaned everything Replaced the original AL network with a new AA network from Crites Replaced the squawker gaskets Repaired the cabinets Laminated 3/8” plywood to the top, bottom, and sides of the speakers Replaced the K-77 tweeters with DaveA’s SMAHL tweeters and lenses I’ve matched the La Scalas with a pair of THTLP subwoofers that I’m feeding via a MiniDSP 2x4HD. I use a Yamaha R-N803 receiver and a Bluesound Node streamer. Yesterday, I finished veneering (with ribbon Sapele) and refinishing (with Rubio Monocoat "Pure") the La Scalas. Because I wasn't confident that I had the skill to veneer the doghouses I painted them the same black that I used for the squawkers and tweeters. I’m quite pleased with how the speakers turned out. Here is a close-up of one of the refinished speakers and a photo of them in my living room. The speakers --- augmented by the THTLPs --- now sound as good as I had always imagined they would. I'm delighted with them. It's been a journey getting them to this point, but the journey has been entirely enjoyable. The help of members of this form has been indispensable to me. Rather than call out each of the more than 20 people who gave suggestions and advice, I'll just say thank-you to all.

  22. OK, so upon hearing this for the first time, wondered why it sounded so familiar: Apparently a couple of members of the Turtles were among Zappa's band at the time. And although we have jumped way far ahead to the climax of this album, live performance, it would behoove all to become familiar with this entire album, especially for the legendary Mud Shark episode very well retold here.

  29. Mine is pretty much the same I brown 4 or 5 chicken thighs. Throw a little cumin and black pepper while that's happening. Add a diced onion and some diced bell pepper. Cook until the onion softens. Toss in 2 cans petite dice tomatoes, 1 can of tomato sauce...Basil, oregano, and parsley, S & P to taste... simmer until the meat falls off the bones. I like angel hair pasta.

  31. It took me a long time and lots of research and reading to learn about nutrition. I am still learning and will never stop. It would be nice if the government actually just put out good data and guidelines instead of nutritional advice made by lobbyist. I do not doubt your results at all. I am sure that many people have cured chronic illness following his advice. Here is what I said in my original post said another way. He recommends a very clean diet which will stop an 'illness' that is caused by constant exposure to irritants. Get rid of the junk and eat nutritious food and most chronic conditions will be solved. This is what we all need to do. The problem is his weird advice about olive oil and other foods are not necessary and like 'adding a little witchcraft' to otherwise good advice. In any event, if it works for you I commend you for following through as solving any medical problem is a positive thing. Most people do not have any discipline so you are a good example as you made the effort and. followed through. I am glad to see that you have improved your life. We are all on the same team. When a person sees a doctor and has chronic problems, the first thing to figure out is what garbage do you eat and fix that to get a proper baseline. Once that is fixed then move on to what remains as many conditions will resolve. Other factors are sleep, exercise, stress and are you doing anything that you enjoy (hobbies, social interaction, etc.), but our society is not ready for doctors or 'healthcare professionals' to address these items at a checkup.

  32. Great comments you made Dude. I do drink milk, and eat plenty of cheese and yogurt. I also eat beef. From the "ancestral diet" POV, it worked for thousands of generations. I understand ethical vegitarianism, but for those who do eat red meat, what's the important distinction between eating muscle, organs, fat or milk? Absolutely agree that everyone must find their individual path here. Like with most things, there is more than one way to skin a chicken (never skin a cat!). And people surely have different goals for their bodies.

  33. Yes ketosis maybe the term @Schu was looking for. But to be clear it is not a state of shock. We are supposed to biologically be able to burn ketones(state of ketosis). The ability to swich from burning sugar to fatty acids and ketones is called metabolic flexibility.

  34. THAT'S what I don't understand. There are concrete slabs thru the river and they can SEE it's high so why chance it? I actually have another one somewhere of a woman who walked out and left her car sitting. Tow truck drivers have to wade out and hook to something underwater to just drag them out. After a couple days rain I usually take a drive out and around the park nosin for fools. lol

  35. No water rescues around here this summer. There are two ways into the park here. Drive around it or take a couple streets off the main drag and down the hill and thru the river. 90% of the time the water is low and it's simple but after a rain the river naturally rises. Young kids and women always seem to try to make it thru. Some do and some don't. Others stall out and sit there or crawl out and sit on the roof til someone shows up to pull them out. Caught this one a couple years ago. lol Italian place about 15 miles south has that on the menu. It's great and I usually add fried eggplant to it. I eat all the eggplant and a bit of spaghetti then take the rest home. Their menu is killer and the food is fantastic.

  36. Who said "film caps never go bad"? They're not exactly the same. The dielectric is the same but construction is different. Lead attachment is different too, which is probably the reason the older films caps are having some issues. Leads on the older caps were pressed on/in with a conductive paste and are prone to moisture creep and corrosion. Leads on most metallized caps these days are attached using an end spray and soldered/welded. FYI, both the Chorus and Chorus II use an electrolytic for the midrange. I don't know about the Forte/ Forte II and all the others - it's been years since I've worked on any of them. If Klipsch/Roy says capacitors sound different, I don't think I'm going to argue with that. I sent the OP to JEM. I did it because he just wanted them back the way they were. People who think that way shouldn't get beat up for it. If someone wants something different, there are options for them too.

  37. Did some tiding up and some checking with scope. Sine wave looks good at 50hz, 1Khz, 10Khz and 20kz. Here are some pictures of the underside after doing some tiding up. Mine will never look as good as say Maynard or Mike but I am proud of it. The other picture is the coin Area51 picked out. We decided to glue it over the hole with the date showing. Who knows years from now someone might see it in a thrift store and will think it was built in Mexico in 1953. 🙂

  38. I just compared the MPS 10 watt OPT to the Edcor 10 watt OPT. The MPS is 2.1lb, the Edcor is 1.75lb, so the MPS is slightly bigger. Overall build quality is good, but not as clean as the Edcor. The MPS transformer varnish dip is not as clean as Edcor's process. This has no bearing on performance, but is strictly an aesthetic issue. Other than that, the end bells are natural finish, not painted.
