  2. I see it as no different to selling a car and purchasing another car And it works the same for HiFi gear Sell one and purchase the other

  3. If you can’t hear a difference, consider yourself money ahead and just relax and enjoy the cheapest one and sell anything else. As for me, I can hear it and have long since lost my way in the rabbit hole. There’s no hope for me, so save yourself……

  6. @grasshopper To more directly answer your question above, the sampling frequency must be at least 2x the frequency you are trying/wanting to capture. This is why CDs, wave files, had a sampling freq. of 44.1 kilohertz, just a little over twice what good ears can hear, around 20kHz. Now, we have fairly inexpensive equipment that can sample 44.1, 88.2, 96, 192 kHz or higher. There's a lot to it, and while Tom said it's not magic, I call a lot of things 'technological magic'.

  7. It's not magic. The necessary ingredient is the reconstruction filter. Yes, it does work ....

  8. What is really interesting is Digital audio... let's say the recording part, is sampling. I'll use a sampling frequency of 88.2 thousand times a second. That's double a regular audio CD. You record the signal level 88.2 thousand times a second, like a picket fence going by. When those get played back at the same rate, just individual levels, you hear all the audio frequencies, tone, percussion, etc. It's magic!

  9. Yes, Jimi and I go back nearly 40 years now. He invited me to audition along with our bass player for HOL . But, that fell through for certain reasons I won't mention here. It would have been perfect because they wouldn't need those damn tracks on the iPOD any longer for backing vocals and keyboards because we would have had that covered LIVE. Just as well, I kept my current job of 34 years now, AND continued with the Neil Diamond show band which I dearly enjoyed and miss since it was retired after a 20 year run due to Covid...

  14. It was well into the night before I had things back together. I listened for only 15 minutes. I'm terrible at putting things into words, but I'll try. It is very possible that I'm only hearing the things that have been planted in my brain by reading others. That said, I noticed a shimmer in the highs that I didn't have before. Crash cymbals had more shine on them. I also noticed detail and even sound field improvements. My wife didn't notice anything. It sounds very sweet. My room has been tweaked to death for 15 years now, and at no point has it sounded as good as it is right now. I need to stop messing around with things.

  15. I agree with Shakey. I’ve dug so far down the rabbit hole the next shovel full will put me into China. As you start spending more and more coin you will hear differences in presentation -

  17. Good to hear from you dtel. Yeah, I don't watch any sports and travel the world on YouTube and my modest 55" monitor. I have a library of Live-cams from favorite places where I visit daily and usually put on the headphones for a recent (or Live) walk or train ride in Europe...Amazing footage with alot being 4K.

  18. What really kills me is when someone refers to a quality brand of gear and asks, "Is it as good as Bose?" In the Bose Lifestyle system, the low frequency speaker is called a "bass module", not a subwoofer. Is this because a government agency found out they don't go nearly deep enough to be called subwoofers, or did they apply that name without being required to?

  19. Got to 105` then ...it rained. I'm sitting in the living room. Wife asks, "What direction is the rain coming from?" ... "Ummmm ..... from 'up" The question isn't a dumb one. We don't have A/C. I think the new term is "passive solar"...Open and close windows at appropriate times. I have several squirrel cage blowers. Forced air might be in our future. With our weather, it will get use in the winter, too. Push warm from outside to in.

  21. One sign there might be a problem is when a company does not supply ANY specs on performance. Instead of saying " Better sound through science" it should say "Better sound through Marketing".

  23. That's true some just use quote and add nothing to it. True, but when they never come back or ask what happened, it's usually spam, some are so obvious it's funny, not even remotely on topic and full of links. They are hidden and marked as spam, it happens more than you think. I read each post from new members and even if silly I just click approve, 90% are real and have good intentions.

  35. Dion was a "Shutdown Cornerback". He was so fast he would give the receiver a lot of room to bait the quarterback into throwing then accelerate and intercept the ball. I haven't seen anyone to compare after he retired. JJK

  39. Thanks again for working with me and building the ACP+ preamp in chassis. It sounds very good and a lot like a miniature First Watt J2 going to my Amp Camp Amps into Heresy 1 speakers. Your builds are so clean with great attention to detail and aesthetics.
