  9. Welcome to the forum. Your LaScala look absolutely honest and original. In my opinion, they were bought very attractively for USD 1,000. Others will know better than I do, but the configuration of your LaScala is absolutely historically correct. The drivers are very original and the Type AA Xover also looks very original even with the authentic Klipsch wire, red and white, which I never would change against something ā€žfancyā€œ from today.. Klipsch built it like this in the early 80s. Original with K77M. I wouldn't swap the original drivers if I were you, I think there was some confusion here in the forum a few weeks ago about the choice of K55V dual phase plug together with Type AA Xover...a confusion that has never been discussed before...as if the dual phase plug K55V wouldn't harmonise with a Type AA? I think this is BS as PWK himself would say in this case, and he designed it. If I were you, I would first leave everything as it is and listen. I would replace things in this order. First new rubber rings between K55V and K400 horn. Then just listen to see if the treble is too muffled. It could be that the Aerovox capacitors are too old. If they are already wet and leaking oil, I would replace them. There is a dealer JEM who sells the customised and selected polyester caps for your Type AA. Only they are Klipsch approved and it really doesn't make sense to use anything else because Klipsch was really looking to restore the original good sound. JEM is mentioned in the upper fixed zone in the Technical/Restoration zone. There really isn't much more to do for now. The bass should last forever if kept dry and not abused. Never change the coils and especially the autoformers of the Xover, they are worth their weight in gold and have a big impact on the original sound. I only realised this at the end of an odyssey after I had some wrong parts in my 1977 LaScala. You can also reseal the bass cabinet with thin insulating tape on the underside. Maybe you can think about replacing the diaphragms of the K55V with original new ones, but that would be one of the last measures of a fine tuning. In the meantime, have fun with your very great new acquisition.

  10. I'm running a pair of Danley subs along with Khorns and LaScala. They seem matched very well to me. Enough that I haven't changed in 12 years so far... Understandable that they are difficult to fit in the decor without hiding them.

  12. Well after the long fridayĀ“s session I was busy to wash some records and while washing I spun some easy listening stuff in the background Earl Klugh with " wishful thinking " Ry CooderĀ“s " Borderline " and " Get Rhythm " finally Lee RitenourĀ“s " Festival " As an exception, I turned on the TV earlier in the evening around 8.pm and watched a thriller, normally I don't turn on the TV before 11.pm and only once a day.

  13. Hi All, I have the luxury of having my own music room. Kids moved out. I have a 5.5 meter frontwall by 6.5 meter long room. Frontwall will be speakers. Console with equipment on the side. Behind me a desk for my Computer and my photography work. I am now at a point where I have to consider hard woord flooring (with a rug) or a carpet with under felt. This room is on first floor above a garage, and has a concrete slab. I prefer not to have carpet. I think it might make music too dull, plus we are in a hot weather conditions. Another question is the ceiling. I am fitting bulkheads around with a square of perforated ceiling in middel (2x2 meter). Is that good or bad idea? I am based in Africa so I do not have acces to all the fancy sound specialist here. i would appreciate some comments. I have a Klipsch Cornwall 4 with Cary amp.

  14. Title pretty much says it all need to down size my stereo these speakers sound absolutely amazing the 2" exit driver is a game changer with my Carver VTA-180's it was like having the band right here in the living room of course my neighbors didn't appreciate that as much as I did. Currently I'm running these with my little Carver 275 amplifier and they still sound awesome with plenty of kick if you're local (Snohomish WA) and interested send me a PM and we'll set up a listening session. I bought the k-691's from @Schu and the Beyma's brand new my asking price is basically what I have into these in parts Chorus II cabinets thrown in for free. Below is thread where I detailed the build, these changed from 396's to 325's as I strongly preferred the 325 crossovers in this application: Below is the CL listing: https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/ele/d/snohomish-modified-klipsch-chorus-iis/7689238951.html

  16. My vote is for carpet. The more hard reflective surfaces you can avoid, the better. And there is no way that carpet alone will "overdamp" a room. I had a thin berber carpet in my listening room and when I replaced it with a high pile carpet, the acoustics improved. Wood flooring certainly looks nicer than carpet, but if acoustics are the first priority, don't go with the wood.

  17. hard wood flooring would avoid allergens , carpets except Persian rugs also contain chemicals , wood remains cooler with excellent sound properties .

  25. Hi @Subi and welcome to the Klipsch Community forums. Can you describe what happened with step 3? What documentation did you follow when doing the upgrade? Here are the Cinema 1200 - Current Firmware Update Notes. With the newer firmware, the soundbar will phone home overnight and complete the firmware update but it needs a network connection. If your soundbar was using older firmware that didn't provide this capability there was a different procedure to update it: Cinema 1200 - Updating Older Firmware. This procedure includes a link to the WiFi firmware. Firmware updates can be finicky even if you follow the instructions exactly. I hate to say it but you may just get lucky after the second, third, or tenth attempt. I would make a small change to the step 3 procedure and perform #15 in between #5 & #6. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

  28. I offered Iā€™d come up and look for possible 1k, explaining conditions and xo etcā€¦ he said heā€™d take 1kā€¦ Iā€™ll drive up tomorrow and check them out. Iā€™m ok with the look and they will be ā€œupstairsā€ and not in every day view per se. With that price I can sort out the horns and xo and should enjoy them and not be buried in them.

  29. Iā€™d like to experiment with two ceiling channels myself ( a new direction for me ), maybe this winter . My room may not allow enough distance to accommodate ceiling speakers , I like a fair amount of space between surround speakers and my ears , I imagine the same principle will apply here also . Good luck dropping down to two channels, give us a critique on your results, Iā€™d be interested šŸ¤“

  30. They look pretty tired for 2K. I've noticed a lot of people are shooting pretty high when they price speakers lately. I guess the reasoning is that groceries went up around 30% that everything else has as well. I would offer 1K and have fun refinishing them and doing some driver/crossover work.

  40. Of course we don't know all the specifics including what subwoofer is being used and room size, but moving from entry level small 4" bookshelf speakers to an upper tier pair of larger dual 6.5" floorstanders would have to yield noticeable improvements all around. Now this idea would be something to consider if you wanted to upgrade without breaking the bank. Of course seamless subwoofer integration would be a must. Bill

  44. If you are using the 335 and 325 networks, those are meant to have an exaggerated mid because they go behind a screen in a cinema. the 396 networks are essentially flat but do allow for an exaggerated low end when played on the floor. Typically 396ā€™s are flown and donā€™t have much of a plane to load the bass. just thought Iā€™d give you a little more insight on how the networks are designed for these particular speakers.

  45. Let me begin by saying that I sense some natural discomfort from some ā€œUnderground Jubileeā€ owners with the introduction of the newly designed Jubilee. This happened with the introduction of the ā€œUnderground Jubileeā€ in 2006 with Klipschorn Owners and what I would like to point out and I experienced recently is if you listen to a 1954 Klipschorn, 2020 AK6 Klipschorn, Underground Jubilee or the newly developed Jubilee the quality of sound reproduction is awesome in so many ways that create an emotional connection with music that many of us covet and will never forget the first time we experienced it. If you are fortunate to own and enjoy any of these systems you have some of the best sound reproducers ever made and as the 1954 Klipschorn reproduction I experienced at the KHMA Feild House during this Chief Bonehead ā€œLast Jubfestā€ event proved I would gladly own and be extremely happy with any of them. With that said here are my impressions of the Jubileeā€¦ The first impression and longest lasting for me was the overall absolute effortless most natural reproduction over the Jubileeā€™s full bandwidth (18Hz - 20kHz) that I have ever experienced from a loudspeaker with well recorded material. Iā€™ve personally experienced this type of feeling to a degree with the ā€œUnderground Jubileeā€ and Drivers on the K402 such as the TAD-4001, TAD-4002, Radian 950BePB and the KPT-HLS-1502 prototype subwoofer but the new Jubilee takes this to another level that I believe most listeners will notice within a few minutes into good recordings. The Jubileeā€™s extension down to 18Hz is real and is as clean and natural feeling/sounding as the KPT-HLS-1502 prototype that I use with my ā€œUnderground Jubileeā€ as well as the La Scala AL5 ME systems. My one question about this area was the feeling based on the recording I was using (Andrea Bocelli- ā€œFall On Meā€) and my experiences with my systems and a few others was in the frequency region somewhere below 100Hz and probably more in the 18Hz - 40Hz region was if it needed to be raised a few db because Iā€™m use to a certain low pressure wave washing over and around me during this song and it was clearly there with the Jubilee but didnā€™t hardly reach the level I expected. Roy mentioned that it was possible to raise the LF Level and that might have resolved this question for me but there simply wasnā€™t enough time available for me to explore this option. Again maybe Iā€™m running my sub a little hotter than I should and that was the cause of the difference but either way that was the only question I was left with and a difference that Iā€™m certain I could easily adjust to my taste in my room. The attack and decay of instruments was accurate and wonderfully reproduced especially noticeable on many of the recordings using piano, drums, cymbals and string instruments. On good recordings the Imaging was excellent with very specific locations of vocals and instruments within the soundstage and these images possessed realistic life size qualities which I found extremely engaging. The movement of images in some recordings was as focused and smooth as I have ever experienced and again very engaging for me. The Soundstage and Imaging on good recordings was presented with Height, Width and Depth that was as good or better than anything Iā€™ve ever experienced and this Imaging/Sound-staging capability will be something that can draw listeners emotionally deeper into recordings and is a highly coveted aspect of music reproduction for me. The Clarity and Inner-detail was also among the best Iā€™ve experienced from a loudspeaker and the Jubilee was unique in my experience in that it exhibited these qualities across its full spectrum bandwidth of 18Hz - 20kHz and this makes it my new reference when comparing other loudspeakers in the future. The Jubilee reproduces sound in such a cohesive way that I really couldnā€™t describe or identify it as a 2-way loudspeaker but instead it truly reproduces sound as ā€œOne Complete Voiceā€ for lack of a better description with no tell-tale indications of a crossover region or drivers/horns of dissimilar characters and I consider it as a new reference standard for me in this area as well. One last but very important observation for me was how the Jubilee reproduction quality in the Lab Listening Room here in Hope (which I have been fortunate to experience many times now since 2006) wasnā€™t altered as much by being in or out of the corner versus my past experiences listening to the ā€œUnderground Jubileeā€ and other Klipsch Loudspeakers in this same room and this was equally true of the Listening Locations where reproduction was very close to equal in quality with the least variation from seat to seat that I have ever experienced in this room and totally surprised me. miketn
