  1. We had a delicious Vietnamese meal. We were in Norcross, GA, spent the night away from home, got a bunch of Filipino food at the Buford Farmers Market, did some other shopping and came home.

  3. I've twice had LaScalas in my house. Super efficient, articulate, great for just about any style of music. They were for music only, and for me, had plenty of bass. Most of the music I listen to is acoustic and orchestral. They were great for low level to high level listening. Missed them as soon as they were gone. The first pair left due to finances, the second pair went to my older son. They were replaced with much larger Klisch speakers, not wife approved, but she loves me and let me have them. Currently using Klipsch Heresy IIs until the next big system is installed. I could easily go back to La Scalas, though.

  5. @grasshopper that extended family always works out. They pick the bones clean and finish everything in sight so you can start over tomorrow. I actually thought I had more ham than I thought. Just enough left for a small batch of bean soup now. Sucks to be me.

  9. I woke this a.m. with a splitting headache, which hasn't happened in a long time. I realized I hadn't had any caffeine for a day and a half. Two cups in and it's gone. I also know that I would be better of going another day or so and just stop the coffee altogether. Probably never going to happen, though.

  10. Seeing what the Chief has done over the years if he does turn the La Scala into a two way would likely use the k-510m / k-691 combo to keep costs down can't imagine he'd go all out with the Celestion driver from the Jubilee which would require DSP that would probably bump the price to $20k or more

  17. Well folks thought I'd drop back by to say I survived the Knee replacement surgery better than I could have hoped for 4 days in and I slid the walker behind the door and I'm using a cane, after all my vanity can only stand so much of that crap LOL! It'll be a couple month ordeal before I'm jogging, but I should be taking on a limited amount of work again before spring! In the meant time I might be posting a couple more pieces for sale to get me over the hump. On e already has a first dibs call out on it (Stereo VRD). But the other will be a pretty nice 299B that I have to put an upgraded power transformer in. Which I need to get to ordering. Any way again thanks for all the well wishes it good to see this place hasn't lost its friendly nature! I'll be forced to take lots of breaks when I get back to work so I'll probably start hanging out here again. Did I hear right and Mark Deneen is back in the house? Boy it would be nice to catch up with him, What a great guy! If any of you remember Mobile Homeless (Kelly Holstien) I still converse with him now and then. Funny how true friends find a way to bury and hatchet! Anyway, I'm rattling on! Cheers Craig

  18. Looks good, one of my favorite things to smoke, I do one every other week. We get some every time in goes on sale, on sale it's cheaper then even ground beef of chicken and much better to me. I like the way you cooked it, some people overcook it and it gets dry and tough, yours looks good.

  19. It’s rarely talked about but quality amplification benefits the LS, any version LS, bass response, greatly. Whether it be tubes or SS a high quality amp with a well designed, stout power supply really makes a difference with any LS. Nothing can make the bass horn produce low bass beyond its design parameters but you can sure make the most of it with the right front end gear.

  20. …a pile of ash formerly known as KG 5.2… 🔥 Essentially the point of diminishing returns. Exponential increase in $ to achieve infinitesimally smaller, virtually unnoticeable increases in performance, aka placebo.

  27. I didn't end up going to check them out - for the price that the seller was asking and the distance I would have had to drive, it wouldn't have been worth it. If they had ended up being the quartets however....(!). In my listening space, I already have a pair of Vandersteen 2C's, Klipsch RB75's and Dynaco A25's (and two Velodyne's ULD15 and VA 1012XII) so didn't feel the need to add the KG2's to the mix. Again, many thanks for the prompt responses.

  28. Thanks all for the input, I am happy to report that the two get along very well indeed. @wuzzzer, I dont know if its a favorite pure music amp, as its used in a woodshop as there is lot of background noise already, and at 100 dollars the price was right. I may bring the heresy pair into the house and try it with my AXR 100 to compare

  30. I had the T-500 years back while the cabinet quality and construction was cringeworthy they actually did sound quite good, much like a forte 1 but with slightly less bass output. I cranked them up pretty loud a lot and never noticed any issues with the cabinets.

  31. If one had a pair of Heresy IIs (mdf cabinets) that were in bad physical shape and wanted to make new boxes, the logical thing to do would be to build some Tangent 400 cabinets with some good plywood. It wouldn't need to be russian/baltic birch, that might be ideal. Use the baffle for a template for driver placement and move all the parts over. ALL parts are the same. The pcb crossover board is even printed as a Heresy II. You will have better bass and the drivers will be closer to ear level. For me it's a no brainer... and other than the cabinet, it's still a Klipsch, by design.

  32. The cones are hard to damage with just gentle cleaning. (Poly cones and rubber surrounds) I have always just misted a little "SPARKLE" window cleaner on a microfiber rag and just gently wiped them down.

  33. I was in Walmart using the restroom and just as I closed my stall door, a voice from the next stall said, “Hi! How are you?” Embarrassed... I said, “I’m alright!!" The voice said, "So what are you up to?” I said, “Ummm... Just trying to handle a little private business over here!” Then I hear, “Can I come over?” Annoyed... I said “Excuse me?!?!." Then the voice said, “Listen, I will have to call you back, there’s an idiot in the next stall answering all my questions!

  34. I had the BGE sitting right around 225°f. The pork loin was on there for a few hours until it hit about 135° internal temp. At that point I pulled it off and wrapped it in parchment and foil and the heat internally rose to about 150°f. Ive definitely overcooked it before and was really worried about it drying out but it turned out perfect.

  37. I'm working on that. There are some pics in a PDF on page 1 of this thread. I just talked to Gil. He said he'd be glad to go with someone to the location where everything is stored and talk "turkey". You'll need to come with a truck or van for the larger stuff and pick him up where he lives. We will pack and ship the smaller stuff, at buyers expense. Contact him at w.f.mcdermott@gmail.com or PM me and I'll give you his phone number.

  39. Every room has its own acoustic signature, so it could be one model or the other depending on several factors. I have a fondness for the Klipschorns in my space, but I also think that adding a horn subwoofer to a set of La Scala IIs would be a fantastic system with more bass extension, plus you get placement and toe-in flexibility. Seeing that you have the La Scala II, the new Klipsch horn sub is easily the best way to get maximum performance.

  40. I think you are thinking of the Tangent 400. It was a Heresy 2 in taller ported box. There was a Tangent 500 too, using a passive radiator instead of ports. The later series Tangent 4000/5000 are the real sleepers. They had 4 ohm woofers and noticeably better bass as a result.

  41. I use a pair of subs with my LS IIs. But they are completely listenable without them. It sounds like they might work fine for you sans subs.

  42. Hi @AndreG. good later Tull there! Think I've said before here that I can not go too long without some Jethro Tull myself. The drive back up to VA the other day was rain and very heavy rain the whole way. Had this and then the Allman Brothers "Beginnings" playing the entire way up. Played each twice before changing because I wasn't changing CDs until I was stopped for a wreck or some other slowdown.

  43. As Shakeydeal said. They don’t go low, but something about the bass they produce is just perfect. I’ve been through pretty much every speaker Klipsch has made and keep coming back to La Scala’s.

  45. R&D costs higher in 2024? Maybe my guys and I will get a raise in 2024!!!
    1 point
  46. the reality for 2023 are high energy + high interest rates + high labor costs + shortages in the supply chain + staff shortages + regular price increases for materials + high R&D costs , based on the uncertainty , the R&D costs will most likely be even higher in 2024 .
