  1. Not necessarily spinning this yet. It arrived yesterday: https://www.discogs.com/release/28522522-Syd-Barrett-The-Solo-Works-Of-Syd-Barrett- I'm not a vault subscriber plus, missed the release but found it on discogs. Whether I'll play it soon or not, not sure yet. It's still in a sealed box. I found out about it on Tracking angle dot com. Just happy to have it.

  2. I've been spending more time with the SYS to reduce coloration from my tube preamps because one of my rooms isn't completely treated as well as it should be. What's interesting though is how amazingly quiet the Schiit SYS is since it is basically nothing but a small Alps volume control with no complicated circuit. Connected to my Heresy II and my Dynaco ST70 for example, I can place my ear to the tweeter and the floor noise is literally non existent compared to the average tube preamp. Since the SYS has no gain, it requires a bit more volume but it's not an issue on speakers with high sensitivity. Even while playing with various amps and phono stages, I haven't had any impedance issues so far and I'm extremely impressed with the neutral clarity which allows the actually sound of the ST70 to remain as faithful as possible as the SYS doesn't introduce any coloration or sound signature other than just a volume control. It's just dead quiet. This can easily compete with preamps costing literally thousands of dollars. I just ordered a Nobsound volume control to see how it does as well. Passive volume controls are an excellent option for amplifiers if you don;t have the money to spend on an actual preamp. So far this Schiit SYS which I've had for several years now sounds amazing regardless of cost. Doesn't matter if you spend $15,000 on a preamp. Sometimes it's hard to beat the sound of nothing.

  3. I just spent about 3 months going through these speakers and making them like new. They are in excellent condition. K-43 woofers, K-55V soldered lug mid drivers, new DaveA tweeters. Crossovers are Klipsch AA’s with updated caps. They sound great with no resonance😀 You would be hard pressed to find a set as nice as these. I had plans for these speakers, but they are not going to happen. I already have a set of these for personal use, or I wouldn’t be selling them. These are hooked up in my listening area and are available to demo if you are seriously interested in buying. Price is firm. These are very hard to find. Pick up only in southern Indiana. I wanted to try here before they go to other outlets for sale. Please PM me if you have any questions.

  11. Not good advice. Don’t buy a “cheapy” sub to pair with a LS. The results will be disappointing and you’d be discouraged with the experience. And my thoughts on equalizers (excluding subwoofer eq) have been well documented here.

  12. Nicely cared for pair of 1988 Klipsch Klipschorns in oiled walnut. Sequential serial numbers. Bought in 2010 for my then new (to me) home with proper corners. These are the speakers that started my big horn journey. They are equipped with ALK Engineering universal crossovers replacing the stock AK2. The original crossovers will be included. Conservatively rated 7 for age. Selling to raise funds for more audio adventures and because I've moved on to Jubilees. They sound excellent. A bit sorry to sell the best looking speaker I've ever owned. For local pickup only in Upton, MA 01568. I will not ship but can help you load them safely for transport.

  13. Beautiful, beautiful! My wife didn't mind the plain black MWMs too much but I'm afraid she would balk at al the trim on those. That's ok, the Snails are getting closer to being finished up.

  15. I use a blended system, Ohm Acoustics 2000s for front mains, Klipsch for everything else. I have found that that the Ohms work extremely well with the Klipsch centres. I have never encountered any issue, timber match or otherwise. I switched out a pair of Klipsch RB61 II as my front mains for the Ohms back in 2016. I find the centre and the Ohms neutral enough they blend extremely well together. If you are dipping into HT you must have an AVR. I roll my Ohms off at 60, the centre and rears at 80 and it works like a charm. I would suggest you try this. Which model Ohm do you have? If it is a 3 (upgraded to 3000) it may be a bit too large for your room.

  16. Dec 28, 2005 I ran into town with my younger brother Zachary to try to find some things at the store. Gifts that I hadn't quite had time to purchase before Christmas rolled around due to how busy things were at the house with Mom being sick. The store was closed anyway so I'd have to wait until after new years. My cell phone rang, an indestructible Kyocera that I'd gotten a a year and a half earlier when the old Motorola had died while everyone was out west for A.G.'s graduation. It was the home number but when I picked up it was my uncle George, " I'm sorry son, She's gone." I told him we'd be there in a little while and hung up. Zachary and I said a word or two and then drove the rest of the way home in near silence. Earlier in the week Zachary and I had been at the house when Mom woke up from one of her many naps. She wasn't feeling well started yelling and trying to remove her catheter. We went in and helped her sit up on the edge of the bed and I put my arms around her in a big hug and tried to hold her still. Because of the tumors that had been growing in her brain it had been some time since she was able to form coherent sentences. She babbled some gibberish for a few minutes before seeming to calm down. I gave her a squeeze and she looked up at me and Zachary and as clear as ever said "I want you to know that I love you. I always will love you."

  20. Not sure what are you talking about. You can’t use the Ti diaphragms or use the Ti drivers without modifying the network. The parts go in between the autoformer and driver. Klipsch doesn’t sell the filter section separately. Since it a non Klipsch mod, the Klipsch alternative is the Heresy III upgrade kit - which is really the correct way to do it.

  21. I'll point out that Klipsch has a series of four Heritage sub models coming out, all are horn loaded. I'm sure they will not be inexpensive, but like other Heritage models, worth the price of admission. I had first generation La Scalas and never felt the need for subs. I'm sure I would have enjoyed them but 'need' is a pretty strong, like saying you won't be happy without them. Not so, I love them and could easily see me getting them again (any version).

  25. If you can solder and assemble, also take a look at Elekit amps 8600S and 8900. both are 300B. Reviews in Stereophile--search for Elekit.

  26. Personally, I take a technical approach to choosing an amp before I listen to its sound. By that I mean whether everything fits together really well electrically. I don't know the devices you describe from my own experience. But I briefly googled your Line Magnetic 33, and the output impedance of 10K ohms limits the number of usable amps somewhat. Another point, I have absolutely no idea to what extent these 300B amps really have a pre amp, as was the case with your Prima Luna, it had a real pre amp section. I don't want to talk these mentioned 300B amps down, I even do not know the circuits but you should be vigilant. There are plenty of tube amps with a volume pot and a selector switch that don't actually have a pre amp but only control the gain at the power amp input. I can only speak for myself personally. I am absolutely delighted with the reviews I have read about the Luxmann 550 AXII. The advantage is that it is a really well thought-out and sophisticated device that includes a real preamp. In the tests of the Line Magnetic 33 I read that it cannot drive a power amplifier directly to highest satisfaction. It needs a preamp or a real integrated amp to unfold its sonic splendour. And what would particularly appeal to me is that the Luxmann itself has a highly praised MC and MM phono input. I wouldn't shy away from comparing the two, Luxmann vs. Line Magnetic as you get the MC input „for free“. I'm perhaps a little biased because after 30 years with tubes, which I really enjoyed, I've now rediscovered SS. I had vintage Leak Stereo 20, Quad II, Audion 300B Silvernight power amps with EAR 864, and the last 23 years Mcintosh C22 CE with MC275 and MC2102. Now I have restored old vintage Quad 606 myself together with a Quad 34 Pre amp and EAR MC4 SUT. Don't laugh, the Quad gear is great, both with my vintage LaScala and my underground Jubilees. A bit like class A feeling due to the current dumping circuit. I love to enjoy my music without tube wear and tear and without tube rolling. If I were you, I would choose the Luxmann...also because then you don't have to experience any surprises with incorrect impedances, plus your CW4s may have high sensitivity, but they certainly appreciate the better control that the Luxmann offers.

  29. SET tube amps are class A. Nature of SET. Class A SS amps run hot but both SS class A and SET are the most linear form of amplification. The audio signal is not manipulated in any way.

  30. I normally make some roast duck for Christmas dinner. We had cracked open a ham on Christmas Eve so I didn’t end up making the duck until yesterday. Brined in a pineapple-orange juice and fresh Thyme mixture and then steamed before a high temp sear in a cast iron skillet in the oven. Shallots and Chard were then cooked in a balsamic glaze made from the pan drippings.

I must also include a thank you to everyone here, for being such a great community, for keeping my spirits up during such a hard year, as many here have had as well. As I celebrate the birth of the Savior I do so knowing that I am not alone, or forgotten, and that is how I praise the Savior for showing me a community I find endearing. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL HERE! and thank you Tim

  36. No Sir I´m not the King of Carts , I´m just a littel old guy cart maniac. I´m member of the german analogue audio association. Close to 17.000 Members, it´s about vintage to present analogue audiotechnology for TT´s, Cartridges, R2R, Tuner, Tapedeck, etc. pp. There´re members who own a cartridge collection which has value of approx. 150 K€ , but even these guys a quiet smart and aren´t arrogant or something similar. Last autum they made an event in a hotel andintroduced their private gear to let the members listen to , the top class set up was worth one million € . So as I toldyou .....😉

  39. It was right around 24 years ago I was recovering from a neck operation and was dealing with issues with a set of Klipsch Computer speakers.... I wandered into this forum looking for support for those and stumbled into this 2 channel section......guys were in here "Mobile Homeless" and "Allan Songer" being a few of the most vocal talking about Klipsch and Tubes, which quickly peaked my interest since I learned basic tube electronics from helping my father work om WWW II ham radio gear, he refurbished, used and sold as a sideline from his normal home appliance business which I also worked with him on in my youth. So "Mobile Homeless" was keen on the lowly low quality parts EICO HF-81, "Allan Songer" was a fan of the HH Scott line of vintage amps for a decent build quality and awesome phono section. My father told me EICO brand test equipment was garbage...I quickly gravitated toward the better built and handsome looking Scott line of amplifiers. So, on eBay I bought a pristine condition 222C that the moron eBayer packed improperly so the face plate ended bent over in shipping. I forced him into a deep discount and kept it. Which led me to decide to see just what I could do to improve it. In steps "Mark Deeneen" of Juicy Music Audio and famed Paragon preamplifier of the 1970's which none of knew that was who he was at the time. He takes me under his magical electronics wing! Teaches me most of what I know about tube audio! All the while "Mobile Homeless" obviously feels threatened a resident "tube guy" of the forum! Those 2 proceed to fight for my musical sole LOL!!! Man were those days a riot around here... All the while folks were watching as a reported what I was doing to the 222C... I started getting asked "would you do one for me". I did a few for the part and shipping cost no labor or profit. It mushroomed out my control! I was released back to work (home improvement contractor) and still did the refurbing for profit as a part time thing for about a year! Then I had a recurring neck problem and was told by the Neurosurgeon that I needed to stop working over my head or with any vibrating power tools. I talked with my wife and decided to take the leap and turn my new hobby business into my new full-time business! Man did that work out great! So fast forward 24 years I have become forced into semi-retirement from what seems like never ending nagging health issues to the point I have not taken in new work in 4 years! At 62 I was approved for Federal SS disability in 7 weeks without even seeing a doctor because my health records were that bad in 2021... including lung issue from smoking for years but had quit and sucking solder fumes for 20+ years. Here I am recovering from Total Knee replacement surgery my nagging health issues have stabilized from good health care providers! I design a ventilation system for my shop and I'm back here offering my services starting two months from now. Isn't it strange how things come full circle in life sometimes! Cheers Craig www.nosvalves.com PS forgot one detail I damn near died at home with COVID in 2020 of course it found my weak spot those lungs! But I'm a stubborn Bxxxxxxx In 2016 it was the Flu that almost got me...7 days in the hospital...

  40. Tiger, Well glad you dropped in. Good to see some of the old crew! There are a few that have dropped in! It's great. Funny thing is those first two I mentioned here it is 23 years after landing here I still converse with both Allan Singer and Kelly Holstein. Both great guys from a way different perspective. But we still have immense respect for each other. Some bonds in life can't be broke! Cheers Craig

  45. LaScala's with I know before you roll your eyes and puke on your shoes by reading this post, an Aiwa AV-D30 rated at 75 watts RMS peak @ 8 ohms. with total harmonic distorion of 0.9% and of course using nothing except my Monster Cable. I'm still in search of that illusive tube amp. But until then, I think this will do the trick. My CD player isn't junk either, my turntable as well as my 15,000 records are in storage. Any opinions? 46. Shelf space depends on how tightly packed your records are. Mine are about 77 LPs per linear foot. A record and its cover together will weigh approximately half a pound. 2000 LPs = 26 feet of shelf space = 1000 lbs In my former career I was promoting Records, as well as being a Music Director for several radio stations and handling some 15 different labels of product, with all sorts of genre. I would inevitabily wind up with an extra copy out of 25 or so they would send every day from the major labels. Not to mention, my own special interests that I would tend to collect. I can claim no favorite, because I listen to everything from Frank Sinatra to Butthole Surfers and everything in between. I did cut down my collection from nearly 30,000 to just under 15,000 but the main thing I always did was stack them in alphabetical order in rows on their sides because shelves were just way too fragile "bowed" under the stress and after having them up and down the hall ways and the listening room, I tore the shelves out one day and returned back to my old ways. Thank God my floor supported the weight just fine![][][] FRED

  47. Come to think of it now I didn't ever keep them on shelves, only stacked in alabetical rows. Now my 3,500 CDs that's a different story all together. And the assorted Box Sets just sit on the side. I got one on those little handy dandy CD/VIDEO TAPE Storage shelves nuthin' fancy, but it does the trick. I used to have one of those 100 CD Changer until I learned quickly that 1) I couldn't remember what was in my machine. 2) What the @#$%* did you do with all those empty covers, so I got rid of it and went to the old trusty Sony 5 Disc which has been tough as nails![] FRED
