  2. Great shirt! OK, so here is what I was playing most recently. This is my Dual 1229Q TT, which I hook up when I want to play quadraphonic (what the "Q" is for). I have several vintage Pioneer turntables that are also quad "rated", but the Dual currently has an AT 1440MLB cart which is the only one that can do CD-4 (quadradisc) records. Sticky Fingers is, obviously stereo. Can't you hear me knocking?

  3. I know that my good forum friends in the USA and Europe are in the midst of freezing temperatures But we have a heat wave warning in place today with 35+ C but the killer is 90% humidity The best option is to be holed up with the aircon on and play music in between tax paperwork So first up is Artist - Fleetwood Mac Title - Rumours

  4. They make GREAT rear surrounds if you need something that is approaching Full Range... And they make a GREAT Center Chanel for the same reasons... Of course for the 'Mains' duty, they also excel in more intimate settings because of the nature of their engineering and usage of a Compression Driver/horn-controlled directivity for the meaty part of the frequency range. There are MANY different Speakers these days, but how many of them will still be around in 10-20 years... I know one that will be for sure. Get the IV's, you won't be sorry.

  8. Ive also never been quite happy with a passive attenuation set up... and I have tried a few, topping out at a Hattor that was by far the best build quality I have seen for a long time. it's not that I couldn't live with one if I needed to, but they all seem to do similar things... that is the reduce the impact and transients. Not terribly, but ever so slightly that it is annoying to me personally... this also makes the sound more 'ruler flat' and less dimensional. it's just a personal preference as many of those passive are really great at what they do... 'attenuate' if you catch my drift.

  13. Yes! What a difference three years does make. Looking back at this thread after finally building a pair of ALK clones, or five to be exact… That 33uF cap in the CSW 450s is/was not doing your La Scalas any favours, anyone’s for that matter. That is the value for a 600 Hz (roughly) cross, a 47uF cap will make the La Scalas come alive. No wonder you preferred the Volti VTK 400s, amongst other reasons. I would bet the Volti has two 24s paralleled for 48uF.

  15. Listened to some very nice Steely Dan this morning... from 72 - 80 on those two long discs. Then Sting's Blue Turtles, that's a must have in my book! Now onto my favorite R&R singer the last couple decades. If you'd seen him perform... you'd know why These two from Audioslave hit me right today. Actually the whole release does!

  17. My first piece of advice I can give you is stop going by what you're told and go by what YOU hear. This is a self-gratification type hobby. If the sound from your own system pleases you the job is complete. Also do not be so presumptuous as to think just because you love how it sounds others should too! There are absolutely no absolutes in this hobby. Now onto the rest...I suggest you invest in a better digital front end...if everything is "right" you should hear very little difference in the sound of the two formats. Do not think this requires megabucks to be spent. Look for the latest greatest DAC from 5 or more years ago on the used market and also make sure you are listening to digital recordings up to the task. Good Luck Craig PS don't get me wrong I'm a vinyl lover! But digital can sound every bit as good if done right.

  18. I thought I would never let this go, but it's time. This is the receiver I always used to demo speakers that I was selling, due to its generous power supply providing extreme clarity and a solid amount of power to the speakers when needed. It's in perfect condition with no issues. Remote is included... a rarity for older receivers these days! Of course I will demo it at time of purchase. I've priced it lower than any other one I could find in like condition. Located Western burbs of Chicago... 60511 Asking $275 for forum members. Audition comes with a taste test of several tasty bourbons as well! I can demo on: Klipsch: RF7 II's / RF-3II's / RF-62 II's / WF-35's JBL: HP-520's Focal: Chorus 714V Polk Audio: LSi 15 Monitor 7's or anything you want to bring. I'm always up for hearing speakers!

  19. I have been super satisfied with my Energy Veritas setup (v6.3 x 2 and V5.1 x 2) and I have never felt the urge to open my new and sealed RF 7 II in the limited walnut edition. Since I have the free time and space I’m thinking about trying the RF 7 II out and see if that will inspire me to find a new home for the Veritas or throw them in a spare room in my basement. Any of you guys had both the RF 7 II and the Veritas V6.3 or auditioned both?

  23. FYI, I am using the black background and can not see the description without highlighting it. Up for sale I have a JTR Orbit Shifter LFU Horn Subwoofer in great condition. Unit works perfectly and has no issues. This is one of the more extreme subwoofers you can get for a home. This is NOT the pro model that cuts off response in the high 30s. This will dig well below 20 hz in room. If you aren't familiar with this sub, EACH these will arguably best most pairs of DUAL 18" ported subs with far better SQ and attack of a Horn sub. 27. I've acquired the Nobsound and it's dead silent to my ears with my Dynaco ST35 and ST70 amps as well as my Schiit Vidar 2. Even when I place my ear up to my Heresy's and Forte's I can't hear any high pitch frequencies so the floor noise is dead silent I'm posting a review on it today. BTW, the volume is smooth and solid and the build quality is first rate. The volume increases perfectly as I rotate it and so there's no impedance issues. Definitely a much nicer build than the Schiit SYS and I prefer the larger, more solid rotating knob. Wow, really amazed. Thanks, Daniel

  28. Glad to hear you like the Nobsound. 75% of the reviews are very positive while a few had issues where most of the volume occurred near the end of the rotation of the volume. I like its sleeker design and build quality much more than the SYS and I too like the larger volume control. Thanks for sharing.

  30. I'll just make a drive-by comment and say that there's more than one way to skin a cat. In a crossover network, as with any network, there are a number of parameters that can be optimized. Fully competent designers may disagree not only on what to optimize, but on how to optimize it. That doesn't make any of them right or wrong, it just means that they approach the problem differently.

  36. I got an email from our cable/ Internet / phone provider ( Cox ) , that we went over our data usage " cap" last month for Internet . Evidently we average around15 gigs ,or more,of usage a day,and are "allowed" 250 gigs a month. I have 2 teens at home who spend way to much time watching YouTube , Netflix, and online gaming evidently. I am streaming music wirelessly from a laptop to a Squeezebox for a few hours a day, and am guilty of streaming a couple of tv shows from amazon prime a couple nights a week. My wife piddles around on her iPad playing games. I have changed the settings on Netflix to the lowest quality, and don't stream anything HD , told the kids to not download games, and left most cloud services set to off, in addition I hooked the laptop up to the squeezebox with a Ethernet connection( which takes the ipeng app away and totally bums me out) I have also looked at all settings on the wireless network and changed the passwords on wpa2 for the router. According to the data usage meter on Cox's website we are averaging using 10 gigs a day now.....still seems like a lot to me. Other than us all getting a life and not using the Internet does anyone have any suggestions on what consumes so much usage? ..School starts in a couple of weeks so the kids usage will decrease , and football will be starting up, so that will be all I watch on tv ..evidently not on Cox's newly acquired ESPN3 tho. it seems to me that having a 250 gig cap on usage is kind of retro in this age of instant everything and all the high tech gadgets. If all Internet providers are doing this , then buying stock in the movie Studio's that release blurays and DVD 's is probably a good move , the streaming services are going to take a major hit. Is anyone else going through this?

  37. No problem,, I think as long as its got its own power source the handshake issue goes away. My receiver got some terrible reviews because of hdmi switching,( pita), so I was hesitant about adding a potential problem, but so far so good. I hope it works well for you also.

  39. I second Scrappy's suggestion. We had some connection/speed issues for a while, I got an AirPort Extreme and we very rarely have any issues. I can keep my iPad connected to wifi when I am outside 40 ft from our house.(maybe farther, haven't jumped our fence to test yet). apple might be the evil empire, but their stuff works really well together. good luck

  41. Stoned redneck hippie ....one of those words don't go with the others. I always thought a redneck meant a person was a prick , but looking at the definition I have been mistaken and to make matters worse it seems I am indeed a redneck myself.....bummer.[:|] As far as licensing naturopaths, I live in the uber conservative state of corn , as backward as I consider our state to be, we have had licensed naturopaths for years. I figure the insurance industry must have saw some potential for profit as well as the state receiving revenue from the licenses. I am really interested in the fallout over the pot legalization thing. I think that may be a step in the right direction. I haven't imbibed for close to a couple decades and have no intention of firing up again, but anything that can reduce the number of people incarcerated ( for smoking) is a step in the right direction.
