  1. I mean really....I'm kind of ticked off. No, really ticked off....Try to do something good, something productive, get some participation, and get a bunch of crap....quit it, stop it, oh I can't handle it....it's not me, it's you.... Look, if you don't like a thread, stay out of it! Just like watching TV (if you're into that)...if you don't like the show, turn the channel for crying out loud. Not that big a deal. Get a life.

  2. I know I thread crap for the following reasons: 1) i find the thread to be utterly useless, but still want to feel included. 2) the purpose of the thread has been achieved, but won't seem to die. 3) someone makes a comment that triggers a thought or idea and I don't want to go through the hassle of creating a new thread, starting a PM, etc. 4) i'm having a bad day. 5) i'm having a good day, but just want to push buttons. 6) it's a monday, wednesday, or saturday. 7) retaliation. 8) it's a tuesday, thursday, friday, or sunday. 9) shrug.

  3. Stupid squirrel came back and is digging in my window well again. Thought it was trapped yesterday and took the cover off, leveled off the dirt and put it back on. Digging so much it had dirt 1/4 way up the window, again! The war is on. I wonder if the local Walmart has clay. I need some M80's too, and not the amp. Wife came in with a yell for help. One of the tomato plants fell over. All this rain is yielding a nice crop.

  5. Hey all--I had posted on the Fitzmaurice forum, without too many responses. Most people said just give it a try. I drove to Wisconsin yesterday and met a very nice guy who likes these kinds of projects. He had a BEAUTIFUL set of Belle Klipsch in teak, Khorns, Scalas, and 3 pairs of Heresys all being driven at the same time from different parts of the room. I listened to his THT and Tuba Table and they sounded spectacular. The modification makes very little difference to my untrained ear, so I purchased it at a healthy discount. The Tuba Table is now home! It's in need of veneering, which will be my next "to do" project. I'll have to work on the placement, too (as you can see). I picked up the sub, driver, and a 240W Dayton amp (all boxes and manuals included) for $100! He just wanted to make room for building other projects. Anyway, it finally rounded out the base problem I was having with these Scalas and I'm thrilled to have it here. (Not sure the neighbors are thrilled, though! )

  6. Morning gang, up early for a flight back home. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it down to see Tarheel. Would you believe it, he has his own cab service here. Anyways had a great time with my uncle here in Jacksonville. Well coffee is done along with my breakfast so I've got to run.

  7. But that’s the fun part … i hate half the people on this forum and just don’t like the other half … i don’t respect any of their opinions on speakers, music, or life; and that’s what has kept me around for years and almost made someone nominate me for moderator (that and i’m not wearing any shoes). i just reread it and i agree with myself.

  10. It's an interesting mindset to complain about thread crapping on one's own post(s), while simultaneously crapping on the thread(s) of another. Tends to rankle some members, apparently. What's good for the goose is good for the goose, as grandpa used to say...

  15. I am selling my pair of 1977 La Scala speakers. They are marked LS-BR on the back and were finished by the original owner who did a decent job. The color is a little darker and richer than it appears in the photos. Overall the cabinets are in very good condition. They have been updated with Crites CT-125 tweeters and Crites A networks. The original owner said the grills were factory done and on the speakers when he purchased them new in Louisville, KY. The grills are attached like Corwalls of the era and are not detachable. They actually look like Cornwalls but are deeper. The speakers also come with custom glass tops. Price is $1,000 OBO. Pick-up only in Cincinnati area.

  18. Your probably to young to remember but many years ago motels had that with quarter slots to activate it. (cheesy motels) Anyway thought about buttkickers years ago and never did it, being married for 36 years with three kids, my butt has been kicked enough already, the sub will have to do.

  19. Ah, the burningman set up, i chatted with an owner of these, nice guys, dont know if they will ever do it again though, people liked the tunes and did not give a Rats Pattoot about what the sound was coming from. That's sad, I would have been parked in that area, a little back but in that area. I know what two single bins sound like outside in the yard with just a few watts, I would love to hear a setup like that, or just the normal MWM setup outside fired up, it would be amazing.

  20. You can but at 7:51 not the normal Minermark crank, keep it under structure rattling volumes. Some "Lite FM Rock" is in order, yesterday it was inagoddavida drum solo @90Spl, also@9am, perhaps that is what pizzed off the neighbor?

  25. waiting on the UBEC to arrive. Still need to order the DAC. fiddling with some wifi configurations on the raspberry pi. otherwise I have the case all laid out and wired and ready for use. Cornwall components are transferred to the new cabinets. Probably another couple of weeks before I'm ready to fire it up and play - both for part acquisition and it's too damn hot to use my office where the system is located (it's part of my detached garage). So I'm enjoying my KP-201's in the house for now

  27. Used to have a neighbor lady that would sign up as some part of the crew on some of the littler freighters. She seemed to come out Happy with the arrangements. Made some friends with the crew, who would advise her as to were to buy things. She was going to buy something at one port they stopped at and the crew told her she could get the same item only better and cheaper when they got to the island where they were made. Another time she signed up for crew in a sailboat. All the fun and maybe some $$$, I know she enjoyed that trip as well. If you think you might be open to such adventure I'd be willing to try to get you in touch with her. I knowed she sailed many times to different global areas and I don't recall any complaints.

  28. Morning gang Had to check my calender, yep, it's Sunday. Cleaning the cave/guns today, not much more planned. Planning yet another Reno run, this time it's a real estate run, kind of hone in on where/location outside of Reno. Reno Nevada has every service Calif has, great VA if needed, but more important the wife likes it. Three things Nevada has going for it, great gun laws, tax's, people friendly. Oregon/Arz are the same. Oregon is a tad too wet, Arz a tad too hot. Coffee / Duggans is ready......

  29. Shakey, Agreed. The different sound could be dynamics, detail, tone, etc. or all of the above. No point in buying different gear if all "sounds" the same. Bill

  30. I find it hard to understand why anyone could think otherwise. If it were not so, why wouldn't you just buy any off the shelf cdp and be happy? Everything has it's own sound, amps, preamps, cables (shudder the thought), etc. It's the raison d'etre that this hobby exists. Otherwise we would all be shopping for rack systems at Best Buy...... Off my soapbox now....... Shakey

  31. you’re probably right; but, you know that i don’t eat at home even when i’m at home. Renting that house does save you some money--me…i would have showed up on Chuck’s doorstep at dinnertime … but, he’d probably be out on a date! i think cruises are the ultimate vacation--big fan of the cruise. took one from los angeles to hawaii and back to los angeles. 15 days--loved it. 10 days at sea (which is why i loved it) five days in hawaii (Oahu, Big Island, Maui, and Kauai). Plus they rolled out the red carpet for me on that trip as my former boss is a senior vice president of the cruise line--he sent the captain of the ship an email saying i was going to be onboard and how much i’d helped him in the past. People were looking at me getting special treatment and they must have been wondering who i was. Got to be friends with the piano player in one of the bars … he’d throw in a Queen tune every now & then for me. I want to take a transatlantic … one that stops in the Azores. Relatives there that i’ve never met.

  35. Why are you keeping the Brand and Model of the Dac such a secret. You would probably get better responses if you told us what you were actually considering. Not at all... there is a Bel Canto V3 dac for sale and the owner just wants to move it for a very reasonable price... around 700 shipped... 2500$ new. They aren't really discounted new because production from bel canto is fairly low and quite boutiquey

  40. All good stories, you just never know when things will pop up or happen. Went to a Klipsch pilgrimage, my name was drawn and we won a FREE pair of Cornwall lll's and even got to pick the wood flavor used to build them and was given a cd with pictures of all the plant employees building them. When Trey picked my name I was hoping to win a t shirt, well this was shocking, it took a good while to realize what happened. There priceless to me Thank you klipsch http://www.cyclonecj.com/dtel/Dtelcorns-small/ Second would be Groomlake giving my grandson a pair of heresy ll's in perfect shape and a Onkyo receiver to play his games with, he loves them, and not just for games. Marshal also gave my wife another onkyo for music in her sewing room. I wish he was still posting. Third was a forum member, Arfanbark he sent us a HK 930 as a 33 anniversary present, it's used with the Cornwalls. His took care of his father who loved pecans so we sent him a sack of pecans from a place in GA with great Pecans, his dad was happy. Forth would be a pair of Black RB-75's new in unopened boxes at an auction for $30. Fifth best was a pair of original fortes for $150 to finish off the Ht. Other great deals from forum members like the 402/k69 and Ev Dx 38 at half price or less from JC and Mark, picked them up from JC near ATL and took them on vacation to TN for a week with us. Also some MWM single bins from Mark in GA, we stayed the night at his beautiful home ( thank you and the lovely wife ) and drove back the next day. These were used to copy and make our 2 Ch we use today. The ones copied are now used for the yard with diy split LaScala tops. But really the best part of all of this was getting to meet all these people and many more, we have stayed at many members homes and some have stayed here, it has always been better than expected. Thank you all

  42. LOL! Perfect! +++ I almost hate to ask this, but why ask us? Why not ask Bill Fitz? He posts on AVS.com frequently and his is very active in answering questions of all kinds, I bet he knows exactly how that slight mod would affect his Tuba design. Or email him directly at: http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/

  43. Unless the price is very good I would build one yourself or get Jason Str to build you one. The plans seem well thought out and I would have reservations about one that deviates that far from them.

  44. Can you explain in more detail what you are talking about ? The extra inch of space for the driver depends on where that inch is located. An extra 14 feet on the horn would make this thing huge.

  47. I am hoping you use one of your soon to arrive JTR Captivator S2, dual 18" subwoofers with your new La Scalas!Well I definitely wouldn’t want to place a Cap S2 in the Lascala setup. That kind of output in a garage would clearly piss the neighbors off lol. Right now the plan is to have both JTRs up in the theater Co-located under the screen. I don’t want to have huge output in the low end region in the garage so maybe a small sub would be nice. Realistically I won’t be able to hook these up immediately as I need to finish up with the electrician for the JTRs and I want to do the Lens for the projector first. This was not a planned purchase but I’m not unhappy with the unexpectedness of it. I feel totally within my right to blame Youthman.yeah good luck with that! Once you see how huge these caps are compared to the "toys" you just sold, you aren't gonna be able to wait on that lens. Besides you might have to rethink the whole lens anyways as your house is about to be able to reproduce it's own earthquakes. Lol
