  3. I contacted a guy that I have bought from in the past because I remembered seeing a pair of B&W's he had. Turned out he still had them and he was willing to sell. What he had was a pair of CDM 1NT bookshelf speakers. I googled the speaker and came up with nothing but positive reviews. I went, I listened, and after I picked my jaw up off the floor I brought them home. He also had the actual B&W stands the speakers bolt to so that was a bonus. I'll be honest, its been a LONG time since I bought speakers that could ride up front with me! These things are crystal clear and sound at least twice their size. They are a little light on bass, at least for me but I have a sub so that's a negligible complaint. The Nautilus tube tweeter really sounds amazing and the kevlar driver is just tough and sexy. The overall design I feel, is very easy on the eyes. I like the modern look. At 88db, they are not near as efficient as our beloved Klipsch, however, even at lower volume I still feel like I get the full compliment of sound and when I give them the business they hang in there, get louder, and sound better. No, I am not abandoning Klipsch, I just decided I needed to open my mind and let some different sound in, thats all.

  4. Hilarious. My husband definitely wore the pants, but his specialty was building/fixing, etc, so he happily left me in charge of the music system. Now thanks to Michael, I've got a pair of Cornwall III's prominently displayed in my living room, and I couldn't be happier. They are the most important piece of furniture I own. Keep your hands and beer cans OFF the Cornwalls, please.

Gotta get caught up after all the rain and then travel. Steve .. hope you're feeling better. So far dental pain is the only pain resulting in my taking pain meds. Take care. Later guys and cheers...............

  7. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, I got my amp! The owners of the delivery home got back from vacation tonight and called me. Apparently the girl watching their house took the amp inside on Thurs. shortly after it was delivered. She did get the note I left that evening but didn't call because she didn't want anyone to know the owners were away????? When I picked up the amp, the note I wrote was taped to the box directly under the shipping label. My note had my name, address and phone number with a brief description of what happened. Guess what, the shipping label that was right above my note had my name, address and phone number on it, WTF??? I didn't bother to let the owner know what I thought of her friend. I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet. Mama's leaving tomorrow for a couple of days. The Yammy' will be broke in nicely when she gets home! Thanks for all the props guys, you're the best!

  8. So the lady and I saw the movie "Amy" yesterday, which documents Amy Winehouse's rise to fame and eventual death. Having never really listened to her music before seeing the movie, I was initially drawn in only because of the Rotten Tomatoes rating of the movie (98% at the time). The movie is excellent for a number of reasons. It presents the content without comment, letting home movies and interviews speak for themselves. However, what makes it really spectacular is how it weaves her music in with her personal story. Her lyrics were not just clever and her vocals were not delivered with flare. There is an emotional rawness and pain I didn't expect and her vocals land like that of a much older and more mature performer. I never knew Amy's music, but I feel like I know it much more intimately now having seen the film. I went out and bought an album. I had dismissed Amy Winehouse as a pop star junkie only to discover some incredible, raw talent that was lost too soon. Tony Bennet, at the end of the film, says she is one of the true legendary jazz singers--to be put alongside Sarah Vaughn and Ella. I plan on digging deep into her records this week, but thought I'd at least share my thoughts on the film. Regardless of experience with her music, the film stands alone as a truly remarkable music documentary. I feel that even those who might know and ultimately dislike her music might find themselves enjoying the movie. I highly recommend seeing it if you can find a way. It's playing at a number of places around here in Chicago. Cheers.

Work day over. Partying with regulars. You guys aren't working on a cabin...you're building bridges! The copper connector caper culminates in calamity. Once swollen, crap. As mentioned, the cabin really needs a shut off valve that will allow a gravity drain of the house to near the level where the pipes come up out of the lake. Other than someone remembering to do it, pretty goof proof for preventing freeze ups. The food sounds amazing. How are the speakers sounding? I'll bet that pool feels awesome after a mid-summer southern Arkansas day. Few really know the absolute beauty of the back country and wetlands of the Arkansas delta, and most of them are more interested in the ducks. Dave

  15. Amy was a fantastic nouveau Jazz singer. I caught her early on and fell in love with her music. She was Trouble(d) and new it. If you get a chance, check out this DVD/BluRay.... The bonus features are good and there is a "demo" she did in a producers office (IIRC) of "No Greater Love" with only a guitar accompaniment. Fantastic! Also, check out her first album "Frank", it may be her best album.... Thanks for the heads up on the new Documentary, I'll keep my eye out for it. Dennie

  18. I owned both the RB-5's and the CDM 1NT's simultaneously. They both sound fantastic but overall, I chose the RB-5's. Different ears for different measures. both are great brands and both speakers have their positive attributes. Congrats on the new purchase!

Turned water off, cut hole in upstairs floor. fixed broken pipe, turned water on, created secondary waterfall. Cut hole in sheetrock, found secondary leak. Copper pipes! Did I say dtel hates plumbing. Partied with regulars last night to celebrate creating waterfalls. As always, dinner was excellent. Rodney cooked center cut smoked porked chops, smothered potatoes, fresh crowder peas from the garden, fried green tomatoes and fried eggplant. Fresh from the garden tomato salad and hot water cornbread.

  27. hey everyone... Keeping in shape Chuck--well done. Ride safely though. Rock on Gary-wish i was there. Glad to hear that the intro to Fat Bottom Girls is part of the set. Battling a hefty infection in a tooth that previously had a root canal. i hate going to the dentist. Was talking to a friend that was the Pastor of a church i attended in Michigan--he made a comment (talking about surgery in general) that sometimes the pain gets so bad we toss our fears aside and tell the doc to do whatever it takes…i got to that point yesterday, only the dentist said i need to see a specialist to have this fixed. he did give me antibiotics to start fighting the infection, so hopefully as that begins to clear, the pain will reduce as well. I’ll be taking it easy again today--probably stare at the idiot box and try to keep my mind off the pain. Have an enjoyable day folks.

  31. Dr. Dru fielded a question on this. He said, "Watch a child dying of Whooping Cough and you'll have a different opinion on vaccination." On a related matter, I had some older colleagues who had been stricken with polio. One walked with braces and canes, the other with a limp. Of course we know about FDR, but may others died or were crippled. Baby boomers like me were the first to get the vaccine. It was a wonderful thing for us. The naysayers just have no memory of the beast and how Salk slayed it. WMcD

  32. Time for these Bad Boys to find a new home, complete refurb (Tested to spec and rewired, then painted) after purchase just a year ago. They have done their job well, easily pizz off a neighbor. The ONLY reason for selling is i have TWO pair of MCMs for my retirement at our soon to be new ranch. I simply do not need them. aprox age is 1989/93 Currently running them Bi-Ampped 250 Bass, 100 LF/Horn per stack. through Carvin electronic crossover. MC4973X is the top section including the large 2" Horn, has built in Two Way factory crossover (for top Horn) MC4973LF is the lower 15" X 4 Push Pull Bass Bin. Fresh coat of Dead Black paint as when new. Added 800Lb casters (nonlocking)on both Bass cabs (a kid could push these) These weigh in at 500Lb per stack, they split in two, (One on top of the Other) handling with two or more people. These will fit stacked in a standard P/U w/8' Bed. These are factory made without grills, no need because who see's them behind the screen? I paid well over $2K and went to LA to fetch them, $2K OBO. These will remain hooked up and ready to Demo untill sold. These will be listed elsewhere, sale could be pulled at ANY time. Had factory support on every call/email i made to EAW, pretty nice guys to deal with tech support. I could assist w/load/move, just as long as you have bodies on the other end at home. Have truck, PM w/ideas.

  37. Agree 100%. The reviews had my expectations very low, and the movie turned out ok. Plot is not its strong suit, but the visuals and sound are very good. Very nice film, though not one that will tax your sound system.

  41. I wouldn't mix the two models in the front three speakers, if you are talking about a 5.1 or greater configuration. I find my CWs to be good for surround duty. 45. I'm sorry Twisted but what I said is not crap. Every single loudspeaker is compromised in one way or another. That's the nature of transducers as we humans currently understand and subsequently design them. So with that in mind, the only fair way to evaluate a product is to facilitate it's idiosyncrasies. To help you better understand what I'm talking about, let's use the K-Horn as an example... I think most of us here will agree that the K-Horns are fantastic loudspeakers. I'm also sure that most of us will agree that these speakers were designed to fit into the corners of the room, or at the very least have some kind of wall re-enforcement. They also tend to respond well to being positioned far from one another, and also respond positively to generous amounts of toe-in. So what does this mean? It means that the K-Horns, like most other loudspeakers, have specific needs that should be appropriately facilitated *if* you want to get an idea as to what they are capable of. There isn't anything BS about this approach. To hammer that fact home, here's a follow up to my example: What do you think will happen if we took those coveted K-Horns and pulled them far away a wall, positioned them close together, and gave them absolutely no toe-in? Do you really think that's a fair way to evaluate a K-Horn? Now what if we suddenly brought in 3 or so other loudspeakers that were designed to work in that kind of open environment? Odds are, the K-Horns are going to get absolutely wrecked (or rekt) in that comparison. Now does that suddenly mean that the K-Horns are a "flawed" design and boast of "no fidelity" because they have more specific needs than other design? Remember, this is EXACTLY what you're saying. You can write this post off as nothing more than "theory" and a case of "what if's", but in all reality, it stems from both common sense and a WHOLE bunch of experience. Disregarding it won't make it any less true. Oh, and by the way... spoiler alert: I've actually done the comparison listed above. As an aside, I'd love to get to Hope and meet the fine folks at Klipsch, but it certainly wouldn't be to gather definitive conclusions on their product line. I'd be in it for the people experience.

  47. Yes, I called Crutchfield but they have to wait until the UPS inquiry is finished which can be up to eight business days. Once they get the resolution from UPS, then they can send me another amp. I insisted it be sent via FedEx with a signature required for delivery. I received a shipping confirmation from Crutchfield at around 3:00 PM PDT. It said the amp was left on my porch at 1:55 PM? Funny, I was home all day and didn't see or hear UPS pull up? In fact, I was watching ESPN at that time sitting about 15' away from my front door. Another bad thing is now some s**t head has my name and address and may figure out I have other audio gear. I'm probably giving the jackass too much credit. He/she has probably traded it for dope by now. I'm not sure why my response is underlined?
