  1. Happy TGIF evening my friends.... Looks like things are going well, and happy B'day from our home to your mom's, I trust she had a wonderful evening out ((0; Ok, I am taking a night off from RTM, as it is CRUNCH TIME for the Los Vegas show!! We have a rehearsal Saturday afternoon which never happens, but due to the SNOW storm Monday, we had to reschedule... So, working in the studio tonight. Here is my new rig which is identical to what is being rented and delivered to the SunCoast Hotel/Casino on the 21st. That is the actual setlist printout for the Diamond Mountain show for Saturday 23rd... NEWS! Today, I spoke with Kenny our front man, and he talked with the movie producer and it seems that Neil Diamond just may show up!!!! If he does, he will be asked to join Kenny on our stage to sing Solitary Man which is the second to the last tune of the show... I just know the audience will go ballistic over this, and we will all be beside ourselves for sure ((((0: .....and for sure, King Errissin (Neil's) percussionist will be with us for the finale singing his own music with Kenny, a very cool tune called "Mountains of Love" .. I believe the full cast from the movie including the Vegas Gospel choir will join us once again. This is just too cool to believe !! Here is the 'symphonic' gear for the show... Enjoy your evening everyone...

  10. Morning gang.... Getting ready to roll out to the shop...... I got the Pilot in before we rolled out yesterday..... Picked the heads up from the machine shop.....they look really good.... the head repair was a bit more than I thought it would be. But my guys at this machine shop do some super good work. Ya know it's been years and I mean years since I've had to take anything to the machine shop for engine work. So I think I'm out or touch of reality of how much machine work really is. I think the last time I took a 4 cylinder head in for a valve job it was around 200 bucks.... My two V-6 heads were almost 600 bucks and I supplied all the 12 bent exhaust valves ..... Now they are Honda V-tec heads and there is a whole lot going on in that valve train.......anyway it is what it is.... I'm just glad it'll be going back together this week..... Yea Carl your right it is time to get that thing running....... There just so little "free" time..... we still got so much going on with The BOSS's mom and the passing of her dad....it's just never ending.... but things are coming around... Thanks guys for all the birthday wishes to my mom..... yea we had a good time at dinner last night. It was just me, The BOSS ,my dad and my mom and my youngest daughter stopped just to say hi... good times for sure Tigerman....really cool stuff my man........ keep us posted for sure....Ya know The BOSS has been keeping up on all the posts hear and she said to me "hey Tigerman is up in Mass, that's not too far away.... we should go and see him and his band"....... yea that would be cool... Chuck..... glad you got your R2R back...... good luck getting those scratches out.... Neil.... glad you had a good time at opening day..... man it's been years since I've been to a ball game... Rog...... Good to hear your helping your friend out.... Hey depression is some tough shitt.... I've been known to get my head real deep up in my a$$ now and then..... As Carl mentioned, at least some posts that were migrated from older platform had triplicate attachments, which hogged storage space. Phone photos are often smaller files than camera photos. My new phone takes hi-res photos that need to be resized to be attached.

  17. Got my R2R back today. The good is it seems to work okay. The bad some light scratches on the top of the wood case and a slight scratch on one VU meter. Was missing the take up reel so I had to take 1800 feet of tape off a reel to try it out. Actually walked down my road with the reel in hand and the other end of the tape tied to a tree Hooked it up to a similar vintage Pioneer SX-950 and it sounds okay. The tape was recorded at the slowest speed 3 3/4 ips so nothing special. So now I have 3 R2Rs Suggestions on how to hide/remove the light scratches?

  31. You should not only elevate your cables, but sit below them. It is best to put them about 6.5 feet off the floor, and arrange them in the shape of triangle (from the power amp to each of the two front speakers, and with a cable across between those two speakers, which is connected to nothing on either end ... this is arrangement is called "tri-wiring"). Of course, wear a pyramid on your head. If you wear glasses, like the individual in the video, be careful to not turn your head while listening, because reflection of the lenses will adversely affect the imaging. One way to prevent this is to use a head clamp. Clamps made of titanium get good reviews, but those that are gold plated restore the warmth of the music. As Linn recommends, do not have a telephone, or anything else with a diaphragm, in the room that may vibrate in response to the sound waves. Listeners can hold their breath to prevent their own diaphragm from moving, no matter how high the SPL.

  41. I've had my Mac MC2105 and MX113 for just under 20 years. The AM tuner has been giving me grief for a while and a noisy phono channel recently gave me enough reason to send the MX113 to Terry. Knowing the history of my MC2105 back to the 80s, I knew it never had been serviced, so I knew the caps were overdue for replacement in it, too. My gear arrived at Terry's house on March 1st and I picked it up at FedEx today. Everything you've read about Terry is spot on: he's kind, thorough, incredibly good at his craft, and reasonably priced. Both pieces were treated to his audio path upgrade and Terry includes some personalized notes with his work. He noted that a previous FM tuner repair to my 113 was done incorrectly (this repair was done by a WELL known Milwaukee-area McIntosh guy), which plagued my tuning capabilities for the last 8-9 years. He also pinpointed the problem with my phono channel, which now is dead quiet. After updates, my 2105 benched at 140 WPC in Terry's shop. It's a completely different sounding amp, which is taking a little bit to get used to. It's like a veil has been taken off my speakers, but it's more pronounced than the improvement from crossover recapping. I've dreamed of having my McIntosh equipment gone through by Terry for YEARS, but held off out of fear of the equipment breaking in transit and thinking the cost would be more than I could afford. FedEx handled my factory boxes with care and the trip to TN and back to WI was completed without issue. On the cost side of things, even with shipping, Terry is competitive with local Milwaukee-area shops. AND IT'S TERRY EFFING DEWICK DOING THE WORK! Three things to beware of: I caught Terry at the best time, coming off his winter vacation. I coordinated the date to have my gear arrive with his back to work date, so my gear was on the bench within a few weeks. When I called last summer, Terry was 120 days out, which is much more common. For me, the time away from the McIntosh was time for me to play with a Marantz unit I've had in a closet. Two, Terry has at least one cat. If a few stray cat hairs in your box will give you fits, just pretend they're not there. Lastly, I think Terry or his wife might be a smoker. I have a good nose and noticed a faint, but noticeable, scent of smoke on my gear when it returned. It's nothing like the stink of some of the gear I've purchased from estates over the years, but it needs to be mentioned. Would it stop me from sending gear to Terry? Absolutely not, as I know it'll diminish quickly. So, friends, the bottom line is if you have some Mac gear that hasn't been recapped or professionally gone through, do not hesitate to send it to Terry DeWick. I think you'll be blown away by how reasonable it is to have this stuff gone through. I don't want to talk prices in a post, but feel free to PM and I'll share both invoices if it'll convince you to have some work done. Enough typing, I have music to listen to Jeff

You cannot get the flu from an in-activated virus (a flu vaccine). If you sister was sick with the flu (i.e. same strain) after getting a flu shot she was in already in process of getting sick before the vaccine took effect (i.e. less than 14 days post vaccine). She also cannot get pregnant from a public restroom's toilet seat. You might want to compare notes with her to give her some understanding of just how ill you can really get from a seasonal flu virus.

  46. Must of gotten at least 20 shots while in the hospital some even in my stomach, blood pressure and temperature checked about every 3 hours even though it was always good.pills galore Tamiflu, Potassium supplements and others. electrical cables and monitors all over my chest at all times, IV in one hand and always on several different oxygen masks that were as uncomfortable as can be, two kat scans, x rays every morning about 4 AM, weighed every morning at about 6 AM they must have taken about 1/2 a quart of blood from me everyday though none was ever put back in. Nurses or doctors doing something to me about every 2 hrs. Absolutely NO SLEEP. Only good thing I had about 30 very cute & sexy little nurses all in their 20's while I as in the hospital. I had to ask and be escorted to the bathroom every time. I believe you are missing the point (get it). If you'd gotten a preventative Flu Shot early in the Fall of 2015 you would not have got the flu this year. If you had not got the flu you would not have had this very subject to post here. I learned I was not actually immortal at age 29, my father found out he was not immortal at 91. Guess who was the most surprised? Once you'd had a single serious bout of pneumonia, especially double pneumonia, you are at a higher risk of future reoccurence.

  49. In full disclosure I am looking for the best sound possible. The means to get there is unknown to me at this time. Maybe I have arrived. AS you know I had a P/P 25 watt EL84 mono block set up. It sound a smidgen better than the yammy 1030... but only on a very few songs. 3 days and 3 sets of ears could not tell one from the other. 1. I have no idea who else sells tubes or SS that I could try other than the Pass30.8. Six moons review of that amp simply said ( in my words here) the 30.8 is over the top good. And that was against mega buck tube and SS Power AMPS. Like the review I linked to above, and my electronics background, prove that listening at 1 watt you need at least 20 more to pull from during dynamic passes. I am not up to building anything. Mike Sanders of QS fame and Nelson Pass are far more accomplished than I in that realm. There is nothing wrong with having a 30 watt SS amp playing at one 1 watt. With out question some music will dig into the 25 watt mark. That is the reason for that pass 30.8 At Best buy they have $50,000 worth of Mac amp preamp etc playing into $15,000 martin logans. Horrible compared to my khorns. When my K horns were puiing 1 watt the ML's were pulling 75. Point is the 30.8 power wise is certainly not to much power. If I never use the last 5 or so watts, all the better. The more power you pull from any amp, the more distortion it makes. I love my horns because they address the issue of efficiency. The Folded Bass is a wonder of the universe. ( there may be others, but they will cost way WAY more than what I paid for these 20+ yr old Khorns. I do not want or need to spend ~4 Large on a used 30.8. But if the sound is way better, then that is good. Same thing goes for tubes. I would try A&S casablancas but once you buy they are yours. NOT going to happen for me. I would posit to say, your definition of the sound you are looking for is not specific enough. "I am looking for the best sound possible” is a purely subjective call and if you interview 15 people and ask them to specifically describe “best sound” and what it means to them, you will probably get 15 very different answers. For example, some people look specifically to measurements as an “objective” tool to help them determine “accuracy,” which may be an important aspect of their “best sound.” However, “accurate” to what benchmark? Are we looking for accuracy when compared to the original studio session, accuracy in relation to the engineer’s mix, accuracy in reproducing “compression,” accurate in reproducing the tone or timbre of certain instruments, or accurate in that a Fender Stratocaster doesn’t sound like a poorly tuned banjo, or something else? Also, if audio gear is “too accurate” it will reveal every flaw in the recording itself and every flaw in the audio gear chain. Given “human nature” being what it is, people then tend to jump to unfounded conclusions that it must be the “amplifier” or the “speaker” (in general, people have been notorious for blaming the Klipsch speaker for poor recordings and poor choices in audio gear), which in turn, tends to impact the sales levels of the item. Others would claim that more bass, more punch, and more excitement from playing music is the “best sound.” Given the state of over-compression in music, the most accurate gear is not necessarily the best in playing heavily processed rock music and expecting more bass and more punch. Think of it this way, sometimes, a person just can’t make a cartoon look real by using a high resolution television. Some claim that a nice crisp high frequency is what they look for as being instrumental in the best sound, while others believe that the crisp high frequency makes for an etched and mechanical listening experience. In general, I believe that most manufacturers (especially those making mass-produced products) will go to extraordinary lengths to “claim” accuracy, to give consumers some level of “assurance” they are buying products that are accurate since the general consumer wouldn’t want their friends questioning them on why they bought an “inaccurate” stereo system (whatever that actually means). Personally, I’ve put together various systems to meet different listening objectives. For example, I’ve tailored a system for the bedroom that will create a surreal, lush and romantic tonal experience for my girlfriend rather than have an “accurate” system playing poor recordings, piercing her ear drums to the point where she has a headache and killing the mood. Another system involves my Klipschorns and is designed around a very detailed and highly resolving system of very minor details that are captured in good recordings where the criteria of very low noise and very low distortion levels using equipment with very linear circuits that need either none, or very little negative feedback. This system is my "evolution" system for experimentation where I swap various tube and solid state based components in an out of this system. My Jubilees are in another fairly resolving system that will probably also end up doing home theater duties, in addition to the two channel listening when I move to a bigger space. These are extremes on the continuum for me, but I have also put together other more general systems that fall somewhere in the middle of my continuum for general listening, general entertaining and occasional parties.
