  2. Rain this morning....very much needed. LF has a 7:30 am appointment at Volvo after I noticed her XC60 pulling to the right following tire rotation. Working on LF's new place. Took up 3 large rooms of carpet and gave it away. Two more rooms to go. Found a couple of cigarette butts under the padding Keep an eye on subs Getting estimates for roof replacement from three contractors this week. An old friend, a fireman, is coming by to see about doing demo on the kitchen cabinets and appliances....actually rehanging some cabinets in the garage. He did the same job for me in 2010. Short and strong as a bull I came home to find him picking up the range and carrying it out by himself Gary....the news keeps getting better. Keep it up my friend It's good to have Chuck back and posting Have a good Tuesday Gents....

  4. Had a cup of Peet's coffee out of the Keurig last night, the last swig tasted like burnt plastic and had to run outside and try to puke it up. If you ever smelled plastic burning it tastes just like it smells. Between that and my sister trying to drive me nuts it was not the best evening. Tomorrow the 8 O Clock grounds goes into the Mr Coffee.

  8. Mornin' guys. Thanks for the welcome back. You are appreciated!! Speaking of nutty weather, we had 3 (count 'em 3!!) fricken' days of snow this past weekend and now it's sunny with temps maybe hitting 80 by the end of this week. Springtime in (or at least near) the Rockies. Anyone for late season skiing? Come on out. Happy Tuesday to all and, of course, cheers.

  9. I hope you checked her tire pressures first! You'd be better off going to a tire shop (which is where the problem lies). All the Volvo store will do is move them back. All repairs paid by Volvo. Apparently a slight alignment problem. She took the service department banana nut muffins

  10. More crazy weather. The south side of Indy had 8" of hail Sunday night! Plow trucks were busy. Thanks for showing the Pilgrimage article Gary, that's very cool. I can't believe the continued flooding in eastern Texas, I hope everybody is ok.

  15. Hey folks ...back again after an extended absence. Had some medical stuff (kidneys) to take care of and may have some more. BUT ...no excuses. Been negligent in staying in touch. Thank you again - so very much - to Tarheel (Chuck) and MKP (Mark) for getting in touch and expressing concern. I owe ya. Feeling pretty chipper these days and even cranking up the 'ol B-3 again. Good to be back!! Chuck

  16. The 70th Anniversary Klipschorn is a soul-stirring tribute to Paul W. Klipsch's original design. As the only speaker that has been in continuous production for 70 years, I don't think I need to go into more of it's history. It's the American original. 17. Greetings all! Happy Tuesday, I caught up a little reading all around the forum today and I realize I have a bug of upgradeitis, I need to turn this stuff off!! Mac Amps - 70th anniv Khorns, Palladiums on sale!!! This is at war with my present contentment! Thankfully I have cup #2 and I will get back to work now and settle down. Really enjoying the JS Bach station this week on Pandora - anyone have any high end streaming service they use yet regularly for music? Have a great day! Chuck - glad you're better! I can't believe that miners pic back a few pages! Talk about no claustrophobia allowed!!

  18. Odd that the alignment would change after a rotation???? The banana nut muffins fixed it

  19. Odd that the alignment would change after a rotation???? An oddly worn tire from the camber being off can cause that or tire pressure. Could even be a combination of the two. Caster is the only angle that will not cause tire wear but is the most likely to cause a pull.

  21. For this to be a subwoofer forum, there are far to few members posting measurements. modeling graphs, ect.. There is a lot of talk and referring to database.com or other source is OK but, forum members room measurements would go a long way in helping others see what is going on in certain size rooms, basement vs upstairs, ect. Ground plane measurements are of some value with horn subs. The Gjallarhorn and some Danley subs have been measured at database.com and still kick but. The subwoofer forum should be picked up a notch by our members. We talk a lot about builds but, leave other educational things wanting that would be of help to new comers and people looking for solid info on designing their bass system for HT or music.

  24. OK, unfair...but it IS a music reproduction device! Took delivery of our 1928 Marshall & Wendell AMPICO player piano today at the future home of the Regional Music Heritage Center. She's a beaut, and in prime condition. If you have Facebook access you can see the delivery video here. We had a power drop installed today and hope to have power available tomorrow PM or Wednesday. Cannot WAIT to hear it! So many great AMPICO rolls, which was one of the most sophisticated and accurate systems ever built. We got over a 100 rolls, mostly AMPICO, with it. It has full dynamic and pedal control, auto replay and auto rewind, and mixes martinis. We are going to have it playing with the doors open on Friday and Saturday for the Texarkana Railfest which will draw thousands downtown. Bit of "see and be heard" for us. We are making really great progress and are shooting to be open by next spring. Dave

  25. I've owned stock Klipschorns for a number of years and have been very happy with how they sound. This past weekend I decided to do try some upgrades; replaced the AK-2 networks and K-77s with B&K A/4500s and CT120 tweeters from Bob Crites. I was expecting a subtle difference in sound quality but was blown away by the improvement. The low end feels tighter, mid/highs are clearer and everything sounds more cohesive. Stereo imaging was much more focused. I don't have any measurements but I did some listening comparisons by playing mono through the left (pre-mod) and right (post-mod). I asked my wife which she preferred and she was quick to chose the one that had been upgraded. Not scientific by any means but I'm very happy with the results. Having lurked here for many years I figured it was time to contribute something back.

  35. The SR-120 is a 70 pound beast and the sound is fantastic. Emotiva has worked with me and treated me like gold, so that alone is a good reason to pick one up on the used market if it can be found. My use of the SR-120 is still a work in progress. The lack of a remote is a PITB for most applications, but as long as its beside me in the computer room it's a minor inconvenience. Now that I've decided to work with it, I've found some work-arounds for the glitches, and it truly does have some critical glitches as Mustang Guy said. I've got more work to do setting it up properly, but some other projects have jumped in front of the SR-120 so I will have to live with it the way it is for the time being. I can tell you this, it's a lot of fun when it's running full tilt!

  46. Forced medication saves the herds, while a few individuals are adversely-affected. That's the underlying rationale. Some people are good with that. Others are not. This is not much different than the concept of democracy (majority rules), coupled with something like the Bill of Rights. Some people think the herd is more important than the individual in these types of scenarios. Others think the individual is the most important. It is good to have strong advocates on both sides. For best results, somebody has to be involved and vigilant.

  48. Over the years I have gained some experience (e.g., either own, owned in the past, or had opportunity for extended listening session) with the following tube-based preamplifiers that I believe would fit well in a quality music reproduction system. I do not have much “shoot-out-type” comparison experience with this list as I tend to acquire based on the goals I have for the specific system implementation. The usual mentioned on the forum: Juicy Music Peach Juicy Music Blueberry (early version, "on-steroids" version, and extreme version) NOS Valves NBS preamplifier Examples not typically mentioned on the forum: Convergent Audio Technology (CAT) SL1 (IMO, one of the classics) Audio Research LS25 (6922 tubes) Audio Research LS25 Mk II (6H30 tubes) Audible Illusions Modulus 3A (IME, need quality tubes and eats weaker tubes for lunch) Manley Labs Shrimp ModWright SWL 9.0SE Cary Audio SLP98 (Line Stage uses 6SN7 similar to SLP05 and suspect sonic signature may be similar) Lamm LL2 Tube Research Labs (TRL) The Dude (IMO, nice implementation of 6SN7 tubes) Audio Research LS26 Audio Research SP10 (uses twelve 6922 tubes, and IME, needs quality tubes and it seemed to devour weaker tubes quickly) Audio Research SP11 Harman Kardon Citation I (complete restoration) Disclaimer: In relation to any forum member or anyone reading these threads and lurking; I cannot determine, and do not profess to know, if you will experience any system synergies; I have not performed any type of analysis to determine if my list of preamplifiers will be appropriately gain matched and impedance matched when used in any music reproduction systems other than my own. In addition, I do not remember the model of VAC amplifier that eth2 ultimately purchased and is currently using, I do not remember what loudspeaker (e.g., horns, direct radiators, combination, etc.) that eth2 is driving with the VAC amplifier, where the loudspeakers are located in his room, the dimensions of his room (length, width, height), how loud eth2 typically listens to music, what kind of music that eth2 typically listens to the most, and have not done any evaluation of preamplifier specifications in relation to eth2’s music reproduction system. Hopefully the list is informative and thought-provoking, prompts further research and investigation by anyone looking to purchase a tube-based preamplifier, and is not intended as insult or otherwise in relation to anybody’s choice in music reproduction system components!!!

  49. I received an interesting request from someone looking to purchase all (6) of the 8" woofers and the grilles. Apparently he has a mint pair of RF-83's, but he had a party recently and some "genius" decided to see what happens when you poke them. nice! I am considering his offer and wondering if anyone would be interested in the cabinets or the Tractix horns or both? Trying to decide whether to do this or not.
