  3. Right now I'm pretty much stuck with a smaller bedroom system and probably will be for about another year and a half so I've been experimenting with various smaller speakers that will fit my space. I've went from Klipsch RB-81 II's to the RB-75's to the Sunfire CRS-3 Ribbon speakers to my current set up of a pair of KV-4's. All of these speakers have worked very well for TV and movies, absolutely no complaints there at all but when it comes to music each one has had it deficiencies, maybe I've just been forever spoiled by my Chorus II's? Anyway, just sealed a very sweet deal on a pair of these P-17's and can't wait for them to arrive next week!

  4. I'll help you. Please check PM and we can agree on the best way to get you what you want. Amazon had only four left, so I bought one. I also have a similar recording downloaded from HDTRACKS you might like. I'll investigate the cost to mail physical media to Iran.

  6. Imagine being Rodney, I'm absolutely sure that he busted his ***, all his life, and at the end of that, it all comes down to being able to do what we did for a few days, every day of your life. I truly believe that he's a happy man, and I'm sure he could be driving the "look what I drive" cars, "look at my magnificent home", "do you see the label on my clothes" but he's one of the real ones, and that's what I appreciated about him most. I'm sure that there was a wide range of income and "status" participants at the gathering, but there was a common thread which was very refreshing, hell, there were even a few liberals that I liked.

  7. Enjoy a safe Memorial Day. Please, whatever your feelings about the policy makers who make the difficult decisions to put our sons and daughters in harm's way, be grateful for those who sacrificed so that we may be free to disagree.

  8. Ceptor maybe you can add to this, I heard on a local KC sports show that since this year the race is an official "sellout" it will be the first time in decades the race is televised live in Indy and being so long ago the first time ever to be televised live and in Color in Indy. Is this true? If so what an odd tidbit.

  9. I'm getting ready for a huge weekend. There's a huge buzz around here for the Indy 500. I'm gathering things for a big cookout tomorrow….steaks burgers, chicken, brats, ribs. My wife is taking care of everything else, my job is to get all the grill stuff cooked. Sunday I'll be at the race, along with 350k other people It's actually the first time they've ever called it a sellout. Years ago they would just completely fill in the infield. At one time there were 425k permanent seats, and 200k in the infield, so basically the whole city of Indianapolis was at that track. I will recuperate Sunday! I hope everyone has a great weekend.

  10. I'm glad everyone like the sausages. It helped that I could cook them low and slow on Rodney's wood burning smoker. If you're ever in Austin, you have to make the trip over to Lockhart and try Smitty's brisket. It's even better than their sausage. I just love those pictures of the smokers that Smitty's Market and Kreuz Market use. I was in Austin, TX for a couple of days back in the late 1990's and people were telling me to visit the Iron Works BBQ and Salt Lick BBQ. I'm curious if you have tried the following and have an order of preference? Smitty's Market Kreuz Market Black's BBQ Iron Works Salt Lick .

  11. Mornin' gang. Getting geared up for 4 day weekend with Better Half Unit. We've had house guests but they leave tomorrow. No comment on the little 'tire.' He, he. Happy Friday folks.

  12. We can't keep up with SE TX with rain, thankfully, but since arriving home from Hope on Sunday I have had 7 inches in the rain gauge in W KC. Emptied it full at 5 in. last night and 2 additional overnight. Might dry out a bit early and more later tonight. Just maybe a dryer weekend? Kinda soggy 'round these parts.

  13. Happy flooding Friday to all. I was doing about 50 mph in the 75 zone this morning as it was raining so hard. Such is south east Texas. I hope the rest of you are high and dry and have a great day leading up to the 3 day weekend.

  14. Chip is maybe 20 % of the situation. Power supply, op amps, transport, firmware and others. A forum member I cannot recall brought his Jolida 100 over about ten years ago. It was excellent for attack, decay, depth of soundstage and non fatiguing. 12ax7 is a sound I prefer.

I just read through the posts back a couple pages. HA! soon as I saw that little tire, I KNEW it would start again............MKP' fault, but I still laughed my arse off when I saw the 'leaf' comment............HERE WE GO

  20. Morning my friends...... and a happy Friday to all..... Yup the long weekend is here for sure.....yes The BOSS has the shop closed Monday....there are some shops open.... My old shop helper is having a party at his house Sunday and he wants me to bring some Klipsch. I'll be hooking up some KP's and giving them some Carver power....should be fun... Well we got a few jobs in the shop today....kind of a laid back day....we have been jamin most of the morning.... We have a little issue at the shop. It's been going on for the last few weeks. There is a hole in the outside wall of the shop. Every year little birds make there nest in it. For the last 17 years it's been little sparrows and they are really not a problem. One year I came in the shop and there were baby birds in the bay. They fell through the other side of the hole. They could just fly. So I put on some rubber gloves and caught them. I was able to stick them back in the hole out front. Mom bird was not real happy but eveything worked "OK"... and yea I blocked off the hole that led to the shop. Anyway..... this year some Black Starlings have taken the hole over.... These birds make a real mess... There is a huge pile of crapp out side of the bay... I was thinking how in the he!! is this pile getting there. Earler this week I was out side the bay looking at the hole and pile of crapp. I could hear them in the hole. As I was looking up one of the baby Starlings stuck there a** out of the hole and squirted out crapp. Man it was nasty... Now I can't kill em....cuz that's just not me.....but once they fly out of that hole I will be filling it in. I will not have this mess happen again... A happy Friday to all..... MKP :-)

  24. I've had mine for three plus years and love it. Tried several sets of tubes with it and finally settled on Electro Harmonix 12AX7 Gold Pins. Quiet operation and nice smooth detailed sound. Comments about the remote are accurate, it's very heavy and one could probably brain a home invader with it. Regards, Sam

  25. No need to bi amp or bi wire anything. Run speaker wires from your receiver to the respective speakers. Run an RCA cable from your receivers sub out or lfe to your subwoofer plate amp.

  26. This is a test run, I think I can get 200 people for an eKlipsch event, Musuem fundraiser, hosted by a Klipsch dealer. It that goes well, I am going to get 400 people in Hope at Rodneys, or at the plant/musuem, and 800 in Indy @ a place TBD in April, 2024. It goes from Texas to Maine and hits Hope and Indy, and Paducah but only on very fringe. With that money I hope we can build an addition to musuem that includes a small theater, classroom and additional exhibit space. So I need 2017 to be a decent showing.

  27. One more day and finally, I get a break and some time off. Oh yeah, I just got back from Hope on Monday, worked Tuesday, took off Wednesday and now it's the two days in a row grind! Not sure what I'm having for dinner tonight, but I sure wish I was back at Rodney's.

  34. Lets do this again! So without further ado, I'm looking to sell my oil oak Chorus II's in sequential number. I am not looking to ship these, so I wanted to give local forum members first shot before I put them on Craigslist. I would say there are in very good to excellent shape. No major dings, or scratches to speak of. There is a little bit of chipping near the base of the speakers, but it isn't very noticeable. Grills are in excellent condition as are the badges, all woofers front and back are in great shape with the exception of one passive that had a little penny size tear that looks to have been repaired well and works and sounds amazing. I was able to get the original receipt and documentation that came with the set if you are interested in that. Asking price is $700. I can audition them as well. Thanks for looking!

  39. Really nice sounding receiver! I owned one. Looks super cool with the lights on in the dark. It definitely holds its own when compared to the other big boy monster receivers. I didn't have room, and traded mine away. Good luck with your sale!

  40. 4 day weekend starts in a few minutes. Have to finish mowing the Panama canal mosquito swarm. I started yesterday with two layers of clothing, 35% DEET and mosquito netting draped over me under a pith helmet. I'm sure it was a sight to my neighbors but their yards are still 6" tall.

  41. Woke up this morning to find I had no coffee. How could this have happened? I replaced the roof on my camper a couple of weeks ago, that was a lot of work. Note to self, don't cover fridge vent. Now things are dry and momma is happy when we go camping. I haven't been down there in about two weeks, so we will see how things held up with the rain we have gotten.

  42. I would give the Yamaha 3050 a fighting chance first before switching to a pre/pro. From my understanding, the Yamaha RX-A3050 preamp/processing section is near but not exactly the same as in Yamaha's praised CX-A5100 pre/pro. Your 3050 is Yamaha's flagship AVR and is packed with just about all the bell's and whistles you can get. Add the XPA-5 and see/hear what you get and tweak accordingly. Remember, there will always be something "better" out there. Bill

  46. This is interesting. I imagine they sound pretty similar as both are 2 way with similar horn and dual 10'' woofers, I think the KG 5.5's are cheaper on the used market now though. The KG 5.5's are front ported so you can place them against a wall too.

  50. I don't know quite where to begin. Not sure if the OP is complaining about the mix (the blend of the various instruments), the overall amplitude of the sound at his location, or distortion in the sound system. Modern sound systems in concert halls are complex. Really complex. There are generally several systems in place. Mains, outfills, infills, delay speakers - each designed to integrate into the whole, and to provide satisfactory sound mix from anywhere in the hall. Most rooms will have areas that are not covered by the main sound system 'hang' so these other ancillary systems are in place to fill in. In my experience, sometimes the seats up front don't get enough attention from the front fills, so the stage noise (drumming and guitar amps) are still heard overly loudly over the vocals. Front fill mixes should be a separate mix to contain instruments not providing already ear-bleeding levels on stage (acoustic guitars, keyboards, voices etc). As to overall volumes, this has been addressed somewhat by the introduction of line array speakers. These are the vertically long systems of similar shaped boxes that act together, but also are 'steerable' by use of electronic digital signal processing. Each speaker box has it's own amp(s) with built in DSP to control volume, eq, even phase, which can all be utilized to give very similar volume/eq to any seat in the house. Used to be that the patrons up front were bludgeoned to death so the folks in the back could have decent sound levels. Not so much any more, we've conquered that. However sometimes it's too loud for me, so I take my custom -15 db earplugs to ALL shows, and wear them probably better than 50% of the time. Our auditory sense is a funny thing, and the brain can make up for a lot of shortcomings, I highly recommend wearing good quality ear protection at shows, after a song or two you won't notice anything different in the mix because your brain has 'made up' the missing frequencies. A reasonably priced set of non-foamy types are the Etymotic brand. They don't mess with the high frequencies as much as foam EAR type plugs, but not as expensive as custom molded. I know some guys who love the fit of their Klipsch Image in-ears that they just wear them, not hooked up to any source, as an alternate means of hearing protection. Sound guys DO care, they have a lot to do in a little time. Generally I've seen them with multiple microphones through the hall prior to a sound check, running pink noise through the systems to get a good balance and check frequencies for room nodes, feedback etc. They then usually run a few favorite and familiar songs through the system and walk the room/hall. I've done what you've done in commenting to them from time to time during intermission, sometimes to good effect. Take into account that you must get to the dude while he's at the desk, NOT actively mixing, and they take breaks at intermission too, so usually the dude you see there at break isn't the mix engineer at all.
