This is great, like minded people to talk with. I have a pair of here sets that my son uses with a vintage marantz receiver and I have a pair of khorns with a macintosh c26 preamp to a dynaco st70 amp, a very sweet setup. Like all here we love our klipsch, I am listening to some ROber Cray right now and man those khorns sing. Any way, it's good to be here.4 points

Yep, a/c went out again at home last Friday. Compressor and blower not lighting up. Instead of troubleshooting it, I preoceeded to install a 10,000 btu window unit in about 15 minutes. Kept most rooms closed but kept the humidity down enough with the box and ceiling fans until tech arrived Monday AM. Different tech this time and got us going in no time. An ant(?) he said got between contactor points. If I had known that, but was still burntout on a/c sales/techs from last year.to even consider it as, last tech wanted near $700 to put new schrader valve inline and recharge of course. This tech thought it was good enough for an old unit and detected no leak at valve. Tech thought replacing the valve, etc. was a little extreme per same company estimate. Told me we were a bit low on coolant so, he topped it off So thought Freon was too low to engage for me to fool with. Much less than half the $700, and restored my faith in people again. Priceless! Heck, I have done well keeping Nancy's Volvo A/C going w/diy from youtube and other. For a 25 year old unit with a small leak in the inside air closet, amounting to 1 service call per year, I can live with. Thinking of doing a ductless system like my brother did when the inevitable could happen. He did most of the work himself minus an A/C company service call to check his work so warranty. would be valid. Mowed the yard a bit today so a little tuckered. Ya'll stay cool out there. Will try to rest up some before replying to all the cool items here by others. It is sortof fun for me to catch up after a bit of away because of the chores. Like a lady's work, mine is never done! The best to ya's... Edit: Sorry but nothing for it but to elaborate little. First tech could have been inexperienced or driven to make money for company., not necessarily dishonest.4 points

Had a great lunch with Odilia. That is a pastrami beef rib. Soaked in brine for 3 days and smoked for 14 hours. You can pull the meat off the bone with your fork.3 points

One news outlet said there are "no swimming" signs posted. Apparently the toddler was standing close to the edge, maybe in a couple three inches of water when the gator struck. His father went in and struggled to pull him free but lost the battle. Can you imagine? I have two grandsons that very age and can't fathom how you would ever be able to get your head around this. And yes the radicalized comments were stupid; try to put yourself in those parents shoes while cracking wise.3 points

Glad your AC system is up and running without too much stress. I'm sure Florida is warm right now, most of the country is under a heat wave.3 points

I would first suggest loosening and retightening all the screws at the crossover terminal.3 points

The PAW and I are doing final pack out of our Seabrook house, right at 10 years to the day from when we moved in. Thomas is at scout camp in Arkansas. Mixed emotions. This house was never really "me." Too "Pleasantville" and uniform. However, many memories. We lost our daughter here a month after that picture was taken so locking the door the last time will certainly involve tears. Some of our friends will be dropping by tonight and we'll toast. Then, it's home to Texarkana. We are planning to have our building downtown ready by first quarter of '17. It will be my last home. My final journey will be out old US 67 to join my parents and daughter at East Memorial Gardens. My travels are done. OTOH, the Regional Music Heritage Center will need me for quite a while so I don't plan on that trip out 67 anytime soon...though, of course, that isn't my call. Dave2 points

They still serve "throwed rolls?" Funny you said that just went there for the first time last week with friends, I thought the food was good, and I did catch a very good hot roll,.2 points

I think it's rewarding when we bring an item back to life, or remodel and update an older item. It can be as rewarding as buying something new.2 points

I've been using an H5 for about 20 years, the older ones had metal bearings. https://www.safetyspeed.com/ They claim a basic .005" accuracy, but it is more dependent on the blade you use. They also have scoring saw options, adjustable stops, mid-level fences, etc. Bought two to get a good price, the other one went to a sign shop. The H series is what you see at most cabinet shops and lumber yards. The C series used to start out under $1000, had one of those in our car stereo install area.2 points

You should see my son now. Six feet at 14. Trombone, viola, and piano. And wants to be an architect. Closing in on Eagle. Very proud and grateful. Dave2 points

She was sweet, had a great life, influenced a lot of people, and went almost instantly with no pain. I can grieve, but I can't complain. Given her 100% mortality prediction within 10 days at birth we had a great blessing for 13 years. With that knowledge, I said always that I was prepared, but not ready. Dave2 points

I did not hear "They pulled 4 gators out of the pond" If that's the case, maybe there should have been more than a "No Swimming" sign?? ?? ?? I mean , even though gators travel, isn't this "lagoon" like totally within public frequented Disney property? Maybe he was "radicalized" Lars1 point

Absolutely NO, NO, NO, on Murphy's Wood Soap. I believe there is no Murphy's Wood Oil which is why you can't find it probably. We've had a couple of go-arounds on this. One of our members did great damage to his lacquered speakers with the stuff. You should read the label closely. It is only for cleaning a floor with a very thick finish on it. And I wouldn't recommend that. Read closely and see that it is not recommended for bare wood and our speakers are just oiled wood in most cases. You can read the MSDS and see that it is a type of soap made with potassium hydroxide and oil. These are stand ins for other soaps which are made with fats and sodium hydroxide (lye). But pretty much the same. Also, it is mixed with water. Water is terrible for any fine wood. Using Murphy's is like lathering up a bar of Ivory and slathering it on. There is lots of advice on the forum. Ordinary "lemon" oil furniture polish will be okay. It is just a little lemon perfume and a lot of mineral oil (motor oil is mineral oil too but that sort of overstated the case and people took me to task on that, but you get the picture.) Other people like Watco oils including Rejuvenating Oil but there can be fire hazards. So read the labels. Again. NO Murphy's EVER. WMcD.1 point

Quite a few years ago my wife's great aunt Kathleen visited their old home in Donegal. It was about 10AM, and the old female relative that greeted them at the door of the crofter's stone cottage immediately pulled out a bottle of whisky and glasses. Kathleen said "Isn't it a bit early?" The old lady glared at her suspiciously and stated "If you aren't a boozer, you aren't a Duffy." Kathleen had a drink. Dave1 point

I like the Type A and AA. If you like to jack on the volume a bit, go with the AA. The Type A sounds better to me overall - but you really can't get carried away with the volume. I built an A/4500, and there was too much tweeter for my tastes. Realize that this is a very individualized kind of thing - there is really no way to predict what you'll like. I always tell people to do the networks first. The K-400 isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Cleaning up the network really improves the sound. You should still do the horns though - definitely.1 point

Joe, we don't know each other, but please know how delighted I am--for you and for your wife. And the good thing you have done for your relationship! Just last night I was watching 'The Intern', a movie starring Robert DeNiro. One line I remember (closely, not exactly) is something like, "It is never wrong to do the right thing." P.S. I'll bet those speakers will sing especially sweetly now!1 point

I especially like this part. This forum HELPS people. And that will keep me here. I didn't take any comments personally, just as help. I think we should all do the same. As a follow up, the wife knows everything at this point. The cash, the speakers, the intent, she's good with it all. She realizes that I like what I like. And if it makes me happy, she's happy. And vice-versa. I bought RF-7IIs - they are being shipped later this week and I am giddy with anticipation. Thanks all for your input.1 point

Holy Mackerel!! Chuck's going fishing. Let us know if you have any luck. Good day yesterday ... we went to a downtown art fair where Better Half Unit's dad was exhibiting. He's a successful western artist and usually sells out at these shows, even though he's getting up in years. The only downside was the heat but glad we went. Have a good Sunday folks and cheers...............1 point

Good morning, The LAVAZZA Gran Selezione Dark Roast was used up this morning. It did the BUNN proud. Next we'll try Perfetto Espresso Roast. I expect it to be strong. Today's forecast is 77. That's a big improvement over the 93 of yesterday. We'll be driving ~1.5 hours to East Lansing to attend the 1st birthday of a nephew's baby daughter. Everyone stay cool and safe.1 point

Got in last night and this morning i get to enjoy my coffee on yhe deck with a wonderful scene. I know it probably just looks like a bunch of trees. However it is very relaxing.
