  1. You are all talking about what is more important, an old person or a young person, living or dying. When I was young the pool was set at 25, when I made 25 they raised it to 30. At 30 they figured out I'd outlive all of them. ( I think I now have 14 surgeries with at least 2 more to come) I've had a great life, if I could change places with an 80 year old lady so she could finish her life, or a child so they could live a life, I would do it in a second. I've had a nice life, death is something that doesn't scare me at all. Everyone discussing which is more valuable, is missing it. For over 20 years I taught a group of kids from the CampOneStep program in Lake Geneva. Everyone should come and spend day with these kids. Doctors and nurses who use their vacation time to be with these kids. Some of them have full time doctors and nurses because it's just a a matter of when. Kids I saw for a couple years were no longer there, cancer had taken them. Other kids showing up with scars all over the heads from the brain cancer, kids who I saw the year before missing limbs to stop the spread. Kids I grew close to knowing that the next year they might not be there and they weren't. AND the kids with no chance of making it and now they are counselors. They come up and hug me, tell they love me and how much it meant to them to be treated as normal kids. If you want to be humbled and quit making a farce out of it, feel free to join me, usually it is in mid July, PM me if you are interested. AND have the balls to see so many kids who are crippled by this deadly disease. We might spend half the day with 50 of them and then serve lunch to 300 more kids. Maybe, it will make you reflect on what you have, or had and appreciate how your life has been special. When 300 kids sing and dance thanking you for spending such an insignificant part of your life trying to make their lives a little better, MAYBE THEN YOU WILL GET IT Mark

  15. Well summer is here and time for another project. I planning on replacing to subs this year. I'm getting geared up for the BackBum Buster sub. I will use this nearfield behind a sectional sofa couch. The ideal is to get the driver within 4 inches of the sectional. The subwoofer height will be position where half will be firing under the seat and the other half at the lower back. The candidate driver will most likely be SI DS4, 1200 watt RMS.

  16. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/viewpoint/0616/Eighth_Graders_Fifteen_Questions_About_Music.htm "Q1: a. How many hours a day do you listen to music? A1: a. 5 hours, 3 hours, 7 hours, 2 hours, 4 hours, and 8 hours. b. Why do you listen to music instead of doing something else with that time? b. It keeps me in a happy mood; it helps my emotions; it helps me focus; it cures my boredom; it motivates me; it can change my mood from bad to good. Q2: What's your favorite kind of music to listen to and why? A2: Rock and Punk, the Beatles, everything 60's, Alternative, Classical, Rap, happy or original; music lifts me up (classical) or helps me match my mood (punk)." Chris

  17. IIRC, the filter in the CA-800 was 12dB/oct at 70hz, or -3dB at 20hz, not a true subsonic filter (but better than nothing). Harman Kardon (actually the vice-president of JBL was the person visiting) changed their filters after visiting my shop in the late 70's. We were the largest JBL dealer in the mid-west and had the fewest warranty problems, and they wanted to know why. At the time I designed, built, and sold a 30hz, Q=1 (0dB down at 30hz) filter to go in the tape loop.

  19. Met with landscape guy. Think the proposal may be high but it needs to be done once then we can maintain it. He is thinking 3 guys for 1 and 1/2 or two days Bathroom floor demo is suppose to restart Saturday. This guy that lays tile all day and does crossfit at night says he can break it up with a sledge hammer and haul it away for $1120 I was thinking $750-$800. LF is cleaning up her new screened porch in this humidity She loves to clean Picked out cabinet hardware and got the granite slab temp plated. Kitchens going to be nice

  22. Thanks Derrick. I realize my sub setup will have cost more than the rest of my system combined...but thats largely because i got great deals on each component. Coming to the realization that almost all subs at stores are not sufficient and one of any sub wont make a HT great is a process. Its been surprising and eye opening to realize just how difficult it is to fill a ht room with enough low end bass to really reproduce a movie properly. I told a friend I was selling my RSW and his reaction was "oh? Was it overkill in your room?" shows just how far ive come in 6 months. Full Bass Addict

  25. That so depends. The longest human life isn't significant in time. Hardly a flash. Given a thousand years at 999 we'd be wanting just another day. My daughter died at 13 but had, in my opinion, a more happy and successful life than most. It has been this observation that makes me believe that a successful life is not a matter of years at all. Very difficult subject without violating TOS, but I did my best. Dave

  36. Thanks TWK. We are all pretty excited to see it come together. Shaun texted me yesterday to say "I'm DONE!" There are a few things he can either do at his house or at mine and since he has a few days left, he will do whatever he can at his house to save some time on the build. I'm not a morning person but I got up early this morning to climb in the attic to run 12/2 romex from the garage to the theater room as we will be installing a dedicated circuit for the HT. I got in the attic yesterday around 2pm and was up there for about 30 seconds. Not in Florida. LOL I considered them a long time ago and may look into it way down the road but this project as well as the recent purchase of my Phantom 4 Drone has consumed enough of my disposable income. After we finish the HT, my wife has a list of things she wants to focus on (enclosing 1/2 of our lanai to make a bedroom for my daughter, swimming pool, jacuzzi etc.....and her list is getting longer and longer Haha)

  38. Beautiful. I think you should take this time by loading up this thread with sultry pictures of your current Genesis and Pre. Speaking of the preamp, what tube combo does that use. Did you try your Genesis alone and then with the pre? What were your thoughts?

  42. Make sure to take a look at the dust cap on the driver and see if it is glued down and sealed. That can make a noise at higher volume as it starts to vibrate against the driver if an edge has come loose.

  44. In my limited experience, home theater equipment will always lose just a bit of performance (compared to a similarly-priced two channel component) to make room for all the home theater-related features. It'll sound good, but at either amp's limit, I think something more two-channel dedicated will perform better. Personally, I own an Adcom 7607 7-channel power amp and an Adcom GFA-535 stereo amp, and while the 7607 has stronger bass and more power (125w per channel as opposed to the 535's 65w), it loses its composure much faster approaching its limits than the older 535. Either amp will distort when pushed hard, but the HT amp loses its dynamics and musicality while the 535 stays much more neutral. Perhaps someone who knows either component better can give better testimony, but if I were shopping for myself, I'd be after the Harmon/Kardon or something else more two-channel focused.
