  1. Yes it was,he had to think about it a week before. Very Nice Not really, it's everyone else. I went to hang some signs in the front, not saying a word to anyone. I climb up a 12' ladder to tie off some rope and looked down and there were 4 people holding the ladder. I was shocked when I looked down, I have never had a safer ladder before, not used to that. The talk started inside with Paul Jacobs, I thought it would be a good time to put up a few more., Carl May helped me put up 4 more signs, I never asked he just grabbed them and started running rope through the grommets and thying them off. I get up Sunday morning after sleeping 2.5 hours and went to take them down, and when I walk out there Otis and I can't remember who (sorry) has taken down the biggest one and has rolled it up perfectly. This was great, I didn't feel like wrestling that sign, it's 6'7" tall and 26' long, heavy plastic. This is the kind of things that happened all week, it's everyone.

  2. Quite the generous man ol MM is, very cool move. Mark (MKP) glad to see you here, has your business picked up? I think spring/summer is finally here. Eldon, you and Christy create an atmosphere around here that people just want to join in and help any way they can.

  3. Chuck, I am a mason, grew up with it, it's in my blood! Even though most of my work now is concrete. Mortar can be colored, I do a lot of custom colored masonry repairs. The key is knowing how much the colored mortar will fade while it's curing (which can take up to 30 days) There's a lot of variable....humidity, wind, sunlight, aggregate size can all effect the final mortar color. The number one reason for mortar turning a different color than the same mortar used previously is the time allowed for the mortar to set before you tool or finish the joints. Even the texture of the mortar can affect the color. A smooth metal tooled mortar joint will be a little lighter in color than a wire scratched joint. Try to find a mason that knows how to fill small mortar voids, most guys use WAY to much mortar and smear the brick. A hairline crack should be filled with a mortar colored or clear silicone caulk, mortar won't stay in a small crack, or have that mortar joint grounded out. Make sure they use zinc oxide coloring, the liquid stuff will fade, and will look blotchy. They might have to combine more than one color to achieve the correct look. Pre-colored mortar in 70 lb bags works better than regular mortar with the color added later. Pressure wash the steps to completely clean the mortar, or they'll be trying to match mortar that's colored from dirt. A lot of people think all mortar is the same, but it can change from day to day. Got any pics?

  6. Im watching youtube videos to get me through my concrete work. Trust me grouting/pointing is in my future. I had a couple trowels laying around for 20+ years, hit the swap meet for a couple items and bought the rest at HD. Will be posting pics of my on-going, (keep me at home) project.

  7. Any brick masons here? LF has brick steps at the front of her place and some of the mortar has disappeared. She met with a guy that does small masonry jobs and he could not promise that if he tuck pointed the brick that it would be a perfect match. I have seen walls on houses that have settled and the mortar has been replaced and the repair is like a magnet to your eyes. Since this is the front entrance and a focal point I am concerned. Suggestions?

  8. This is the time of year again, hot and cold mixing. It's easy to see here, when the clouds are out of the South from the gulf moving North quickly someone is going to get bad weather with all that moisture.

  18. Concrete slab. Whoever was the guy that poured the footing for the retaining wall, left "Flashing" an inch higher than the sidewalk. A real chit job 30+ years and 3 owners ago. It's been nothing but a dog outhouse for 30+ years. We gonna fix that. Once slab is done (Both Sides) then, we start the eval on the R&R on the wall. P.S. this is the short side, on the other side im looking at a 70' + run......

  20. All manufacturers new car sales pretty much across the board are lagging. There's a bunch of theories as to why but I'm not entirely sure which one to believe. You would think that with new car sales down, service would be up but that's not the case either. Dealerships and independents around here are slow. The quickie oil change places seem unaffected.

  21. What about new car sales? Never being in the auto business does one segment trend for the other?

  22. spend your cash on top of the line AVR's from the last 1-5 years. You can either find them on sites such as accessories4less.com or craigslist. You'll still have support for all modern HD audio formats, often times 4k upscaling, 3D, top tier room correction, etc. You'd potentially be lacking in whatever the latest fad in audio service may be, or stuff like Atmos support, but otherwise not missing out on the core technologies that are present in 90% of the available media. You're not going to be keeping this thing forever, but buying TOL older models should keep you relevant until all of the fringe features of today's TOL models actually becomes standard requirements with the source media.

  23. I'm cautiously optimistic. Last months numbers were absolutely abysmal but the last week or so of the month we started seeing a little glimmer of hope. Yesterday was actually a good day but the jury is still out on this month. Glad to see it's picking up for you.

  27. I think 2 things. One you need to adjust your sub distance to max the crossover range. Alter it up and down a foot at a time you will find where they best crossover sound is. That may fix part. Then consider moving fronts around a bit. Placement is most important...more than how it looks best. Dont spend more imo I doubt that will fix it. 280s are plenty. More power would be louder but not better imo.

  28. I started in the forum with a different name and used it for a while and changed it after about three months. I picked my first name thinking people would get a laugh from it. Not a single response from anyone. The same thing happened to me on the Bay. I personally do look at peoples chosen names ( handles ) and often wonder. We all choose our name for our own reason. For some our name choice has personal references and others appear to just be picked out of the air. While raising my children, I always told them to be careful of what and how you say things to people. You never know how the things we say to others will impact them in their life. Every one has something that was said to them at one time in their life that has stuck with them in a positive or a negative way. So for me, I choose a forum name that I heard someone say years ago on a talk show. It stuck with me all my life. My current name ( stay groovy baby ) ( music related ). Just curious, any idea anyone? But then whats in a name.

  34. Precisely what I said, but you reduce it to comparing with seat belts and such? We're talking about profit to all, right down to us retired folks, that is the biggest opportunity I can think of. End of new road construction not associated with new building, regaining incredible amounts of time lost in traffic, eliminating billions in litigation, cutting travel times by 3/4 or more, no downtime for sleeping on the road, and those are only the big ones that come to mind. When it's about money, HUGE money the likes no one has seen since the Gold Rush, it will speed things up. It simply hasn't sunk in yet. They're still talking about high speed rail. Rail is dead and doesn't know it. It will be autonomous trucks that lead the way, and cars will follow. Just the conversion to autonomous trucks will drop prices...and increase profits...like nothing since interchangeable parts and the assembly line. Don't know why I try to convince folks. History will take care of that. If I were a young person I'd be betting the farm on this paradigm shift. As per "The Graduate," "I have two words for you: autonomous vehicles." They will make plastics look like chump change. Dave

Those of you that saw me this past week...need I say more??? Lord forbid if I accidentally disconnected something while dusting, I would never hear the end of it.

  40. Violent microburst Monday evening Tuesday, May 2nd 2017, 5:15 pm EDT by Bill Kardas Parts of Central New York had extensive severe weather damage from powerful thunderstorms that rolled through on Monday night. Over 5,000 people were without power in Chenango and Otsego Counties. Widespread tree damage closed several roads as crews worked to clean up the damage. A large tree crushed a mobile home in Norwich. The owner was home at the time and was lucky not to be injured. The National Weather Service was in the area during Tuesday surveying the damage. A violent microburst with 90-100mph winds caused massive tree damage in a forest along route 23 outside of Norwich. The primary cause of wind damage was determined to be from a line of violent thunderstorms. Wind speeds were in excess of 70-80mph.

  42. Haven't had much time to catch up reading here, but will soon I hope. I first posted pictures here because everyone who could not make wants pictures, I would think there will be more pics. Then I need to make a post to Mark telling him what happened with the voltmeters, well I actually slept for like 10 hours first and made some real coffee...... Shockingly I only had 4 cups of coffee the whole week, Roy gave me two, I made one cup in Kevins bus and a very nice lady seen me wandering around looking really rough, rougher than normal and went and made me a big cup of coffee, after that I had a new name for her, it was the coffee angel.

  45. Anybody know what the story is? These look like Jube Bass Bins. http://www.stereophile.com/content/janas-day-3-axpona#MtKcJgDuVihQRHrF.97 After many years of experimenting, he finally created Destination Audio's eponymous three-way, fully horn-loaded speakers ($95,000/pair). And, as implied by his company's name, these are the only speakers he will ever create and sell, because he's reached his final sonic destination. Each pair takes Wisniewski and his five-man team a labor-intensive six months, so only two pairs are born a year.
