  2. Thanks Carl, No it's not easy..... but it's out of my control.... all I can do is be there for Dawn and do what needs to be done! Dawn is one tough woman!! But under that tough shell she's mush. The other day Dawn was talking to one of her dads closest friends.... keeping her posted on things. Well she told Dawn how much Dad loved and admired me, she went on and on... it really brought tears to my eyes. Over years of owning the shop Dawn's dad would pull me aside every so often and ask me "how ya doing for money?? do ya need any?" I would always chuckle and tell him were good Dad thank you. With out the help of Dawn's Mom and Dad we would not be were we are today..... No shop and No house that we live in. I am for ever grateful. MKP :-)

  3. Fine but you have to be here when it's 98 degrees outside with 90% humidity as well.

  4. was a nice day here ... hit the 40s. Can’t believe I’m actually calling that a nice day ... checked the weather of my former homestead and it was in the 70s.

  5. 20s in the AM teens at night here. I moved out of Michigan for this exact reason. Sucks here. Driving me to drink. I'm sure I've had lots of coffee posts and a cable or two. Not sure about cocktails. Beer will have to do. Check out the date on the beer. It was very harsh in 2005/6. Like butter tonight. Expensive coaster for that Belle! At least it is not a plant.

  6. Dang, I thought I had it bad but you have me beat. We were on our way to IHOP to eat after candelight service on Christmas Eve when my phone rang. It was my daughter who had just gotten off of work. She was forced into a curb and blew a tire on her way from work to the restaurant. I had to find her and change her tire (son in law in tow) in 40 degree weather while it was drizzling out in my church clothes. My son in law helped greatly and we had her back up and running in no time.

  8. Way too cold here. Freezing tonight. For a real southerner, if it's too cold to be naked outside, it is too damn cold! Love snow. For about 3 days, then want it to warm up ASAP. Dave

  10. Time for an update on the Secura 997 coffee roasting. Video and image of the final product attached. To read a dark roast required an hour and 45 minutes for a pound. Since there is no work involved the length was not an issue. I realized I really don't know how long a drum roaster takes since I've never owned one. My roasting has been in cast iron on the stove, and I used a Melitta hot air roaster for perhaps a decade. Got rid of it due to small capacity and I eventually decided the hot air carries off too much of the oils. For an audio comparison, it's sort of like the deference between CD and vinyl...took me years to decide that there was simply something slight more "living" about vinyl compared to most CDs...though the difference only becomes profound when you finally hear it. Anyway, both hot air and stovetop took about 20 to 25 minutes for a dark roast, so this was much longer. However, good oil cover remaining and no smoke. If you look close in the video you'll see the chaff flying around. The agitator was perfect with beans flowing over it constantly. A pound is just about the perfect load for this thing. Going to set up a recurring order on Amazon and roast my own for every day from now on! Why not? Livin' LARGE!!! Dave Dave Coffee.mpg

  11. If it was 44 up here, I'd be outside getting things done. I froze up my water source after a 9 degree Saturday night, didn't get the heat tape or insulation over the main valve. ( which is 12" up from the main connection, everything is contained and buried in a 6-8" diameter PVC tube.) Christmas morning I was investigating why it was frozen...reached in there to check the valve, moved it with a bit of a crick and busted the PVC to galvanized connection below the main valve. Instant mess...wide open main to the trailer park...22 degrees outside. Try to find the current manager, sure...called city utilities to turn off the main valve, they are closed of course. Emergency line calls the cops, "broke a main line, gotta turn the main off." "Okay, we dispatched a guy" Took about an hour and a half, poor guy...ripped from his Christmas presents. Fortunately, there is a dip and a creek behind my place, so I made a trench to the creek...but it's a wide open one inch main, so it won't be long before it floods behind other trailers. He get's there and shuts the main off. "You better take care of this before the other places start freezing up." Alrighty then...by now other tenants are finding out they have no water, thinking maybe their places are freezing up AFTER their source. It's not long before folks turn up wanting to get their water back on...one guy and I tore into it an dug it up. Took a bit of bailing until the main line was drained out, and exposed for repair. Another neighbor turned up with proper parts to fix the issue, (nothing was open) he cut the line, glued and capped it off so everyone else can have the water back on without freezing problems. Yesterday the maintenance guy showed up, (we had one?) and I had already been gathering needed stuff for the repair. He could tell I was going to fix it whether he was there or not, and he was getting paid, so he took over. I helped, and worked on my connection from the valve to the trailer, a couple other folks helped as well. One neighbor donated a perfect round slotted fiberglass piece that fit perfect in the PCV tube, and I made sure the heat tape was over that valve. Sort of ruined Christmas day for a few folks, mostly my GF who is a bit upset for missing Christmas with her kids, but what could I do? I couldn't leave... But on the positive side, the water around here was the sort of the color of urine, and kinda tasted bad. That busted line flushed the system rather well, the water is sparkly clean and tastes better! For now anyway... Another positive is we have a next door neighbor, Mr. Happy as my GF calls him. Last Summer I would be at work, and the GF would have her dog out doing his business, and the guy would harass her; "Why hasn't Mike done this?" "Why hasn't Mike done that?" She eventually told him to GFH...a real d*ck, this guy... Well Christmas morning when the utility guy turned off the water, Mr. Happy was right in the middle of his shower...Hah! Hah! He just scowls at me now...what's great is his wife thinks it's funny.

  12. I get emails from the Spotify forum as maybe some of you do, too. This one came across amidst all of the usual crap that caught my attention in regards to voting for the lossless streaming need from them. So, my vote was cast. I've tried Tidal and I've tried Deezer. Out of those two, Deezer was my pick for their "Flow" section that played various things based on your Artist likes. But, I still like Spotify better because of the UI and everything else it does. No, it doesn't sound quite as good in comparison but I guess I'll just go with it as my hearing isn't near what it used to be because of tinnitus, etc. And, I still mainly embrace the ability to control Spotify on my desktop that's tied to my stereo from my phone...like the Gizmo app does with JRiver. That user interaction, for me, is the best. So whether they listen or not, vote for it if you feel it's needed! Here's the link... https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Lossless-Streaming-16bit-44-1khz-CD-quality/idc-p/701564#M42786 That is all. Happy New Year!

  13. It's entirely possible the box could have been dropped flat on its back or sides and had a strong impact without effecting the packaging. Those have gone a long way from Arkansas, so there's plenty that could have happened in transit. I'm sure Klipsch will make it right. I'd wait to get a replacement pair before doing too much critical listening.

We have visited the Hope,AR facility many times and I have difficulty believing this speaker shipped in this condition. Again, please provide a pic of the label showing serial number, etc. Thank you!!!

  25. I have the local one down to $500, but I am going to need a second at some time. I spent a very long time chatting with the guy at SVS and have been asking questions on their site. So it is not really shooting in the dark I hope. He said that based on my cubic feet, he would suggest a pair of PB1000 or SB2000. I am not really trying to make the house shake, but I do want some headroom, and if I understand people here, it is better not to stress a subwoofer. I am fascinated that this has 2 12 inch drivers, which seems like it ought to make an impact. And Ed at SVS just told me that a PB2 Plus and a PB12 PLus/2 are exactly the same so I can mix and match them. Hell, $500 is a deal for a PB12 Plus/2. I defnitely need ported with the room size and the dedicated home theater. So this is coming together very nicely and I have learned a lot.

  26. Got the new titanium tweeter diaphragms today from Bob. After about 15 minutes of installation, we're back in business.[emoji106] Breaking them in as we speak with a 500 watt Crown K2. Maybe I should do it right and speed up the process with the amp sitting right next to it.....a Crown Macrotech 3600vz, 1200 watts @ 8 ohms. Let's see if we can get er up to 170db. I'll let you know how that turns out.....[emoji5] Here's the one that fried..... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  28. Yeah.... I've really gotten used to controlling Spotify from my phone. Too slick. Bottom line is for me....lossless formats whether it was Tidal or a Redbook CD through a CD player really don't sound THAT MUCH better than Spotify Premium. They sound better but not enough for me to give up Spotify. If they go lossless I'll be jumping all over it and I've added my input there in the past. Of all the streaming services I've tried to date, none could match what Spotify has had to offer. They've even improved their radio stations. I stream from a Windows 10 laptop and it's scary how reliable it has been. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  30. My trusted dealer has already contacted the Italian importer and the speakers will both be replaced. This is to avoid differences in color / grain of the finish and have consecutive serial numbers. The important thing is to solve the problem at best, an inconvenience can happen to anyone. I think the quality control did not fail if the problem occurred when the speaker was already in its box in the warehouse.Strange that Klipsch does not provide in packaging a silica gel bag to avoid that moisture can in some way alter the wood or cellulose of the membranes. The sound performance is exciting but I'm disappointed by the choice made for some solutions. Still the grids: if I remove the rubber washers and the joints in the diffuser it is almost impossible to remove them easily and without damaging the wooden edges!

  32. Don't blame the speakers blame the recording and mixing engineers. I have the same issues and I have a hot rodded La Scala center with 200 watts feeding it and six other big Klipsch Heritage speakers. Not all soundtracks are like this but a good number are.

  34. Thanks for the tip wvu80, already done! I await response to the reopening in the afternoon. Obviously the speaker has to be replaced with a new one. The only thing that disturbs is that the serials are consecutive as suggested on the packaging.

  36. I'd love to :). I know it's kind of an odd request given that we don't know each other, but I have yet to find any other local members of this forum since I moved to MN 18 months ago. And to find someone who has a couple nice theater setups...well that's just what I'm hoping to experience before I make any decisions

  37. Supposed to be in the 20's here on New Years day with a high only in the 30's. At least I don't have to work that day. Gonna have to cover the pool pump and let it run till it warms up. Putting the pepper plants in the garage tonight as every night will have a frost for a while. Still better than where @MORE KLIPSCH PLEASE and @dirtmudd are.

  40. Can’t offer much help. When we first arrived here 8 years ago I saw a CList ad for seating. Yada yada, his wife bought 2 rows of 3 arced manual recliners as a present when he was on oil rig for months. They were in the garage and upon his return they discovered that the seats wouldn’t fit the room. I picked up one row for $300. After 8 years in the kids game room, they are still going strong.

  43. They are back together and in place for Christmas. Man, once that last coat went on and dried, then light sanding with 0000 steel wool, and a coat of Liquid Gold, they just came to life. They are all done except for bass bin grills and some minor black touch up paint. Man, they look and sound great! The pictures don't really do them justice on how the finish looks. Merry Christmas to all!

  44. I've done a lot of comparison of preamps, recording program material through them, and comparing. I've found even 0.2dB difference will skew preference. You really have to line up capture files and do a null test, adjust for greatest null, and then compare. Many apparent differences then go away, and it can be pretty hard to tell a difference.

  45. Sennheiser HD800 in the house, My expectations were I would find a bright analytical can that was weak on bass with an out of the head soundstage. This is what I was expecting based on the hundreds of threads / reviews / comments...........My reason for wanting to try them was I wanted a better presentation / soundstage Actually hearing them was a shock to the system, 1st they were not overly bright and analytical, though they could sound piercing I found that was more source related, in order to attribute that quality to the cans one would expect they sound the same on all material. They sounded sublime on some material and like crap on other material. I started paying attention to selection and using long time considered standards for QUALITY RECORDINGS and I was richly rewarded (dont confuse this statement with meaning high resolution 24 /192 etc...etc...etc... I am talking about albums that are well known as being masterfully recorded and mastered like Steely Dan Aha, all the resolution in the world will not cover up a poor recording and in fact may make it sound worse IME.) Next was the Bass, not sure where this reputation was garnered for light on bass perhaps it started with people comparing them with planers or bass heavy cans, I was nearly floored by the impact the HD800 presented, Listening to Sometimes God Smiles Prism track and the superb Sheffield Drum Tracks, and SMV Thunder albums proved anything but lacking in bass. Bass was deep with texture and impact, not Bloated or exaggerated. I is true they dont dig down in to the sub bass regions as well as my HE500 they also dont muddy the waters. color me very happy with the Bass Soundstage, My expectations of some miraculous out of head experience was daunted It has been my experience that headphones do MANY things correct, soundstage is NOT one of them, I feel like all the press concerning the soundstage on the HD800 is more about the spatial imagery and not what I consider soudstage, I came to headphones out of necessity from systems that consisted of SET amps and Horn Speakers those systems presented an almost physical image of the material in front of you allowing to to Hear / imagine the individuals and instruments in there perspective places. while headphones can recreate the space in the material it is all still firmly inside your head, I have heard only a couple examples of material which can create that out of head experience Chesky Records Ultimate Headphone is one of those. While I dont see the HD800 as having a true soundstage experience I admit its spacial separation and imagery is better An unexpected Benefit The Hd800 is SUPERB at low level listening, while my HE500 tends to need quite a bit of volume to really shine and open up the HD800 seems to care less, it plays very well at about any volume. My Wife & Ears thank you Sennheiser As I see it the largest drawback to having the HD800 is now something like 25% of my music is unlistenable unless I keep both the HE500 and the HD800, suggestions on how to break that news to the better half will be appreciated.........I have long said I see no reason for multiple cans the HD800 has shown me I was wrong
