  7. tell her the simple truth; that this is a process of finding that one special speaker that you want to spend the rest of your life with so you can be satisfied and never have to buy another set again. Remind her of the importance of finding that special one just like you found her. That ought to hold her until you buy your next set.

  9. Just an update This video converter works great, the part they call EZgrabber. It's the part than connects a VCR to USB for a computer and the program you install on your computer. You press play on the VCR and the running video is on your computer screen, when you want to record you press the REC button on the device and the video shows it's recording and has the running time of the recorder. They also give you a separate program for editing and organizing but on my computer it's very slow, but does work. I think it's just my computer, instead i use a program that came with my photoshop program which also does video and it's much quicker. This is not a Mac but I would guess it should work with the device made for mac's. It works great, as it plays it's recorded to the computer, that fast no problems. This is what I really wanted, to get the analog video to digital on the computer, dealing with it once on the computer really has nothing to do with this device. Probably done at least 10 hours of video so far with only one little problem and it was not because of this device. I had one old video that was a little over 2 hours, after it was on the computer the computer had a problem burning it to a disc being 5.75 GB in size. this was the computers problem. I had to go back and cut it in half to make it workable for the computer. When recording to the computer if you want to edit out part of a a video all you have to do it press the REC button on the device. This stops the recording part to the computer but it still shows the video running on the computer, when you get to a part of the video you want to continue just press the REC button on the device again and it adds it to where you stopped, easy. I say all of this because like with many things instructions only explain certain things to get you going, and to say it does work great. It can also do the same straight from the camera.

  22. Have a couple old lamps you could rip the wire off of ? I just use #14 from Monoprice, my electrons are not picky, good thing, plus it's short runs. Way more wire than any amp I have can push in volts. I know volts are not everything but #14 is about 3 times the gauge of anything on a crossover. I don't get the whole overkill thing with audio.

  23. I use 12ga for everything, including Khorns, La Scalas, Chorus II's, etc. The KnuKonceptz wire I referenced is very good and very flexible, easy to use.

  24. Your amp puts out 90wpc before it starts getting audibly distorted, which is definitely enough for you r28's to play very loud, probably too loud to stand in the room for an entire song. I doubt you would notice any difference in sound quality between 18 to 10awg with those wattage numbers and those distances. Banana plugs are great for ease of use, but bare wire to terminal is one less transfer through, again not audibly noticeable. So I'm saying you will be fine in whatever you chose to do. For the record I use RCA banana plugs from Menards, 12awg c2 monoprice for wire on everything in both my systems. Keep in mind the 12awg is harder/larger to hide and doesn't bend/conform very well for running in tight places/corners.

  25. Those are in great shape. Nice. BTW, the Pre-1980 Heresys, Cornwalls, etc. used the same Poplar Core Veneers as the Khorn fronts. FYI, and NOT crappy, cheap MDF. Also, my first pair of Khorns, as a "kid" were KCBR's 1977 which were made of Baltic Birch inside and out and weighed 20 more pounds than the older fir plywood Khorns. I sold them to a friend with the option of buying them back someday. I put some Formby's Tung Oil on those things AFTER I had polished the raw wood with #0000 Steel wool, the most beautiful birch finish you ever saw. But these Walnut Heresys really are super nice. Pun intended.

  29. OK, so I woke up this morning and realised that, based on intuition and experience, using the Dayton PA310-8 woofer, not only save you money, but PROBABLY, you can just do a woofer swap with the original K-22, cut a hole in the back, glue in the port, and you PROBABLY won't have to do anything at all to the E network. You will just have better BASS, which is the #1 issue with old Heresy 1's. Talk about "too easy." So thanks to Karlson3 for the discovery. It might become a really good solution for some DIY modders. It's my hope that if any of you do this, you will report here with measurements and listening impressions. Thanks in advance. That being said, the original Heresy is 3 db more efficient and probably the better of the two mods, I guess one gets what they pay for, but this may be better AND good enough of an improvement for the budget conscious.

  30. Another happy 904 owner here. Buy them you will be hard pressed to find something better for the money. As others have said they are voiced to go behind a screen so the 510 horn is 3-4db hot. Best scenario would be to ditch those passive networks and go active. However until then enjoy them in stock form. Looks like those have the B&C compression driver in them, another bonus!

  31. My advice exactly. Don't fix what ain't broken. I've only been following Klipsch for a couple years and from all I've read, the kg3 far over-performed for its price and therefore was an extremely popular speaker. If sound's coming out of the drivers, don't mess with them; enjoy them.

  32. Get the RF-7s to match the rest of system. The 7s really do a bang up job for HT. Though I do think you should negotiate that price down a bit. Find another pair of Forte IIs down the road and have yourself a nice separate stereo rig. Bill

  34. @Kdenn011 Thanks for posting. @teaman Does this mean that 1/2 of msrp is the new acceptable market pricing for Klipsch offerings? Seems like not too long ago a post for largely discounted speakers got all tangled up in here. At 1/2 off nearly all Klipsch items are palatable financially to the masses, but someone somewhere must be getting hurt with the loss of profit.

  40. @dtel that is a very good goal. The legal system is completely broke, and I an sometimes ashamed to be part of it. I am kind of a different lawyer. I grew up in Idaho, and my dad was a lawyer. They are way behind the times. Over there, lawyers are people who help solve problems. I spend a lot of my time giving people free legal information because a lot of the time they think they need a lawyer and don't. Not having problems, worrying or getting nervous helps a lot as a lawyer, but it also gets me in trouble, because I am myself no matter who I am talking to, and I can be a smartass. Their problem, not mine.

  42. I have been happy with Klipschorns for 35 years, with a stock upgrade in 2006, then the addition of Audyssey in 2012. I would be happy with them for the rest of my life. If I had the room, money, and grille cloth to cover them with, I would try Klipsch Jubilees, because they are supposed to be even better. The Klipschorns are incredibly clean, with snappy bass that is probably because of low modulation distortion (I think it is 1/3 of that of the Cornwall II, even though the Klipschorns were measured at 10 dB higher SPL!). What our ears tell us is much more important, but, at one point, I compared distortion measures of the K-horns with those of other good speakers, as reviewed in Audio magazine. The K-horn had about 1/2 the IM of the AR 98RS (a 4-way, which may have helped), 1/4 the IM of the Platinum Studio 2 and 1/5 the IM of the Fried Studio 4. As to harmonic distortion, K-horns had about 1/10 of the nearest competitor I looked at. Dynamics are incredible! Microdynamics, too. They reach movie industry peaks of 105 dB in our 4,000 cu.ft. + room without strain, 16 feet away. This takes about 16 watts. They can reach 115 dB in this room with 88 watts. Of course, I wouldn't permit either of these levels for more than a moment. With careful Audyssey (Audyssey FLAT option) set up (about 4 tries) I get about +/_ 2.2 dB 550 Hz to 16K Hz from the main listening position, as measured by REW and a calibrated mic. Below 550 Hz, I have imposed a gradual bass rise, a la the Harman Curve up to about +9 dB at 40 Hz (without the subwoofer). Then the response drops rapidly, but can be heard as low as 24 Hz (adding my subwoofer can maintain response to 20 Hz at -1 dB, with the help of Audyssey). With good CDs, SACDs, DVD-As, and Blu-rays, the K-horns sound very much like the orchestras I have played in, or listened to; with distorted sources, they reveal flaws ruthlessly, rather than veil the sound the way some "high end" speakers do. With magnetic stereo soundtracks of films of the '50s, '60s and early '70s, which tend to have a little high frequency distortion, the other Audyssey option, Audyssey Reference, helps a great deal, by starting a downward curve at about 8K, proceeding to -2 dB at 10K, and about - 4.5 dB at 16K.

  43. Absolutely fascinating @RoboKlipsch. I very much appreciate the information. I particularly enjoyed your statement "it worked well I think everybody would do what you are wondering about." I don't mean that in a mean way, just that statements like that are what get me motivated. I now understand the whats and the whys much better. Imagine a single speaker that ranged from 20 to 20,000 Hz. I mean a real full range speaker from 20 to 20,00 Hz with the ability to control levels across the board. Might be a waste of time, but if you think about it, why should we need separate subwoofers? I appreciate your discussion of the complexities and the room effects. That would seem to make it hard to have a single full range speaker because the perceived sound would be different at different locations. I also appreciate the fact that things are done the way the way the are because a lot of very smart people worked very hard to figure things out. I will never have the abilities or skills they did, and I know that. But I find that goofing off with goofy ideas helps me to learn the parameters of new areas. Then again, sometimes a novel or crazy idea actually works. I had an LED project that everyone said would not work, but did. And I was consulting with some really sophisticated people. So I figure it is always worth a little effort to try my crazy ideas.
