  1. Sincerest condolences. I still think of our last pet every day and it has been years. The good memories will never leave you.

  2. That had to be difficult Chuck. I am also very sad to hear of the Jake's passing. As said before , I cry more for animals here lately than people sometimes. Not the news was hoping for.Thankfully we have the memories and the photos. Alright then, glad you had help with the burial. Take care. Would say more but can't...

  8. The fundamental frequency of low E on a bass guitar is 40hz. For the contra bassoon and harp it is 29hz. Even when full range speakers are rated at 30hz, there is something about a good subwoofer (mine is a ENTEC SW-1) that adds impact and air that most full range speakers just cannot reproduce. I have Klipsch Forte I with Crites crossovers and tweeter diaphragms. They have great bass; but even they need my ENTEC SW-1 as far as I am concerned.

  11. In a rare moment of rational thinking, I took a vow and swore that I would not start any more speaker projects. Otherwise I would be all over these.

  13. A good friend worked at the local record store, and they sold concert tickets. He would hooked me up hundreds of times for tickets, never had to stand in line. A few notables...Led Zeppelin when I was 14, drank a beer with Van Halen when I was 16, before they made it big. Saw a band I've never heard of in their store playing acoustic guitars....Supertramp. Thanks Mike....nice site. Today is my wife's birthday. I played her the #1 song on this day in 1973, Carly Simon, You're So Vain

  15. I drink a lot of 8 o clock also. Drinking some now with almond milk but every now and then I add fresh cream. I also grind my own beans using a bodum burr grinder and drink a Jamaican blend from fresh market very often also. Going to order some from New Guinea when I run low because I hear its very good for the money spent. My only thing to add is try a french press. Very good coffee!!

  19. The most popular song in the year I was born was Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs....Sugar Shack, I've never heard of either one of them. It was in 1963. The Beatles and the Stones were the following two years. How many times did we see McCartney on there, 5-6? I will say, since around 1990, the music kind of sucked

  20. My thoughts are with you my friend. When I was 8 my Shepherd followed me everywhere. Took me to the school bus and awaited my return. Sat at my feet while I fished and chased wolves and coyotes to me while I was on horseback. Yes, I shot them to protect the cattle. At some point he was hit by a car and paralyzed in his hind legs although he continued to drag himself everywhere I went. That was so sad but I didn't want it to end. My grandfather took my dog out of his misery with a gun and I have never gotten over that moment. Our love continues as does your's with Jake; they know that and grins at you (and me) from above.

  21. Im so sorry! They are such a big part of my life I don't have kids so dogs get treated real good around here also. I can tell your the same way. I know there are so many animals that are not treated well and all we can do is to know how much love we gave them and how much we got in return. RIP Jake!!!

  23. Thanks for that Paul..............I see by our time that it is 1am. MONDAY morning for you! I will be back in the Hall this evening to spin up more music..... It was a quiet but nice evening over in RTM last night (Saturday) and after that live concert (as mentioned in above post from last night) from our own Symphony Orchestra and a discussion about the Bartok piano concerto we were listening to and how Keith Emerson may have been influenced with some of his music... Sure enough, Bartok was one of those influences.... So, what better way to continue my evening but with a classic ELP recording from back in the day right ? See you in the morning (yours).... .................Gary

  27. I've had large bookshelf speakers on stands in the living room. Honest to goodness they take up the same amount of floor space as large floor standers, but I fully sympathize with your efforts to accommodate the wife. But hey, if I can take those Pallidiums off your hands for a couple hundred bucks, let me know. I'm always willing to help a guy out for the sake of domestic tranquility. You DID say you were going to make sacrifices... +++ I'm thinking of heading over the the Solid State sub-forum to learn about building a DIY Type D amp. I'm pretty happy with my Marantz 6011 but I bought a fancy soldering station last year and I'm in need of a new project to justify its existence.

  32. Just returned from a convention at Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine, Texas. The coffee in the hotel was very good, as was the food. We’re kept busy so we usually never leave the hotel but we played hooky on Thursday and took a cab into downtown Grapevine. In the space of an hour the temp dropped ~15 degrees. Winds of 45 mph at 38 degrees made strolling Grapevine quite unpleasant, even for Michiganders. To catch a 7am flight home on Friday, we had to leave the hotel at 5am with no breakfast or coffee. After navigating TSA, we hit McDonald’s for coffee — my wife likes their coffee — and breakfast. Unfortunately, they put cream and sugar in mine, which, for me, makes it undrinkable. My first coffee was then on the plane. The best that can be said is that it was hot.

  38. this thread moves right along ... How you all are? hope all in the weather affected areas are safe. Things can be replaced. Yeah, cliche .. but true Went thru Hurricane Iniki while I was on Kauai. MKP, My 80 has 125K. I bought it from a little old lady for $600. Did the cv joints/axles, clutch, brakes, timing belt and water pump. Shop looked at me a little funny when I asked how much to rebuild the CARB. "Ummm, we're gonna have to pull one of the old guys for this". The sheet metal is good. Has some pocks from a freak hail storm. The rubber needs to be replaced. the pic of the cuppu I'm a purist. I would need a cup of coffee to wash that down. I get Peruvian from our roaster... It can be very good. I drink a lot of varietals. I enjoy a good blend, too You see me going for cream and sugar, the coffee is bad. My drink, sippin' whiskey - neat. I spose it would figure that I roll my own cigarettes, too. ...say WillyBob How much coffee have you had this AM?

  42. If someone makes a deal to purchase, I can pick them up for you. If you want them delivered anywhere between Atlanta and Michigan or Atlanta and MPLS, I would deliver them at no extra charge.( as long as you don't think Texas is between Georgia and the frozen North. This is a sincere proposal.

  44. Eight O'clock.....use to grind that for folks when I was a bag boy at the A&P in the mid 60s. Always smelled wonderful. I do have a small grinder and have recently ground (or is it grinded?) some Trader Joe's cheap beans. Okay.....for you serious guys....I bet you drink yours black? No cream, sugar, artificial sweeteners? I neglected to say I use coconut cream and Stevia. That's got to go....right?
