  7. I don't care what anyone says, I have and had both Emotiva 3 pieces and Yamaha one. You can not make blanket statements about any company, not all models are the same as with any company. The 3 Emotiva pieces worked as well as any for twice the price, the Yamaha is about 18 years old and works 100%. I'm not talking about on junk speakers. Yes there are Yamaha's that are not good usually the cheaper models, like most companies. Better, of course there always is, but sometimes higher prices means nothing, each model can sound different. If you read here you can see certain models stand out and it's not always the most expensive. Sorry, just don't like blanket statements, it's false and misleading. If you remember at one time Yamaha had a terrible reputation for sounding flat or thin, but as people tried them they found it was not true and they got a better reputation almost immediately. You just can't call a brand bad because of "the one you tried in your room, with your ears and speakers", yea that makes sense, must be all bad. Maby I will get up on the other side of the bed tomorrow in a better mood ? we will see Rakkmutt, I am not trying to talk you into either of these brands, go to your dealer and listen to different models for yourself, with the speakers you have if possible. If not something that sounds close or at least on the same set of speakers, and decide for yourself. You are lucky to have a place like that. r

  10. Yes it's official, the British offshoot of inbred minor German princelings that ended up running Europe for a long while ,have elevated Ringo Star to a Knight of the Realm. He joins Sir Paul, Sir Elton and Sir Mick. Combined they make up the four ugliest looking people on the planet and easily out-butt-ugly the British royals, something I thought it was impossible to do. I can only assume his contribution to music rests on his participation in "I Am The Walrus" . I've always wondered why that song never gave rise to more mass murderers. I know I've always wanted to throttle someone whenever I heard it.

  13. I like a good Yamaha amp, they in general tend to have a good clean neutral sound with a bit of muscle. I also like how robust and reliable they have been for me personally over the years. I have not used/listened to Emotiva. Seems like good bang for the buck. I have read many times that Marantz typically has good synergy with Klipsch, so maybe research that a bit since it is an option for you. Rotel ... costly IMO, and the sound of the Rotel's I've heard were thin sounding to my ears. Perhaps not a good match for Klipsch. Happy to be wrong on that Anyway of your options, my list would be shortened to Yamaha and Marantz. Can you demo them in your space on your speakers?

  14. No Dirtmud, those are not the one. Sometime being patient and waiting is better. I put a wanted ad on Canuck Audio Mart, and 2 days later a nice man from Montreal send me a message telling me that he’s got a nice pair of KH for sale. I saved a two day trip, 300$ of gas and lodging, and 1000$ on the price. I’m so happy!

  16. I don't own a cell phone. I have a landline at home. I refuse to be part of the brainwashed masses that have to constantly stare at their phone. But you've got to admit selling millions on the idea that they need a cell phone that they constantly have to upgrade and pay associated monthly fees has got to be one of the greatest marketing ploys ever devised. Back to watches. Keith

  17. The good is that we all have clocks built into our cell phones. The bad is a wristwatch is duplicitous and adds no utility to life. The ugly? Spend your money on some earrings.

  19. I power my KLF-30's with Emotiva 500 WPC XPA-1 monoblocks and with every step up in amp power the speakers seem to react better each time. The control over your drivers and low end will be much improved over a receiver in most situations. If you are looking for a three channel amp, check out Ebay for used Emotiva XPA-3's. They can be found in the vicinity of $600 with remainder of the five year warranty so you can have piece of mind with your purchase. 200 WPC will do wonders for your RF series speakers. Tim

  20. As you know, the exact same here except for the locking of the doors. I came home from work the other day and realized I left my garage door open all day, some summer nights I may forget to close it as well. My subdivision of 22 houses is carved out of a farm field off of a county road with a cow pasture across the street. Now if my neighbor would just get rid of that damn rooster It is a nice place to live as long as you like the sight of corn.

  21. well, currently living in metro Jackson MS, 2010 count 173k. having lived in a small town of 2000 before moving to Jackson, it wasn't bad. but - having lived in B'ham AL for 40 yrs before, and now living in a similar metro area - I do enjoy the conveniences of the bigger cities. and like Neil said somewhere - medical care has become more important as my GF & I both age and need slowly increasing medical monitoring, checkups etc. but I did enjoy the small town & country life. I've always been one to make the best of what I have - when I get lemons, give me some Stoli or Grey Goose, ice, a shaker and some cane sugar & I can have a nice time.

  26. I'd have to agree with Youthman regarding your pricing tip request. You have already agreed on price AND he is delivering them to you. San Diego to downtown LA is what, a 16 hour drive with traffic??? Ok, maybe not that long on most days, but still -- LA traffic?? I know I would be pretty upset if someone tried to re-negotiate after we made a deal and I just spent a good part of my Saturday delivering those large speakers. My suggestion to you would be to be a man (or woman) of your word and follow through on your commitment.

  27. Welcome to the forum. I'm all for negotiating but IMO, when you decided to take bass bins home, at that point, you have agreed to the $1000 asking price. If you try and negotiate after you have part of the product in hand, that could be considered a ransom. Regardless, best wishes on your acquisition and possible sale of them.

  28. Remember brotha, it's a "system". I think that at times we buy components based on specifications and reputation only to find that those same components do not mesh well with each other. I think you probably have a component mis-match that is not very synergistic and is contributing to the room issues in compromising the sound. The formula for getting Heritage to sound wonderful is pretty well known, but that doesn't mean you can't do things your own way...I surely did as a early adopter of Class D/Heritage however you need to be prepared to have compromised sound. You spent ALOT of money on a pair of Belles... if I had spent that much I'd surely try my best to get them to sound pleasing. Spending more money at this point might be necessary to get the sound you are looking for, but you've really pushed yourself into pretty lofty territory monetarily... there is a lot of really outstanding equipment for that same dollar figure.

In a special meeting of the Women's Secret Society they held a vote and decided to bring back swooning just for me. Just so you know, I was not surprised at the outcome of the vote.

Drinking a cup of coffee and watching Snake City on television. This dude is grabbing Black Mambas with his bare hands. I wouldn’t want his job.

  42. I have heard all of these, in at least one of their versions. Interestingly, the Belles always sounded a little milder and less harsh than the La Scala I. At one point, a dealer, without prompting, told me, "He [PWK] toned them down." In 5 dealer rooms, and in 2 rooms of mine, the Klipschorns always sounded great, and when paired with them, better and more balanced than La Scala I, Belle, and Heresy 1 & II. The Khorns, La Scala, and Belle sounded more "open," "transparent," and dynamic. When I listened long and hard in 5 dealers' rooms, the Khorns seemed more realistic than any other speaker (in 1982, no, I don't think speakers have gotten better since then, generally), so I bought them. They have been given stock upgrades once since then (AK4 upgrade, approx. 2005, made them sound a bit better, perhaps). The best of all was a pair of Khorns (no center channel) very widely separated -- perhaps by 50 feet -- and they wiped the floor with all other speakers present [including B & W 801F, at a much higher price, and requiring a much more powerful amplifier]. Since that time, I've used them for hours almost every day, and they "Rock Out" quite well with all kinds of music. Since rooms make such a difference, I should say that my current room is large (> 4000 cu.ft.) has absorbers and diffusors, a carpet, firm walls, high-ish ceiling (8.5 to 11.83 feet, sloped up toward the back), and the Khorns, at least in my set-up, are even better with Audyssey.
