  1. That's surely true, had no idea what or who he would turn into, forgot all about that. From the road all we could see was jeeps running around the desert filming the rat patrol, a few people pulled over to watch but only for a few minutes, it was hot, they had a rough job filming that. When in San Francisco we watched as they filmed The streets of San Francisco, it was right by the bay at a streetcar turnaround at the bottom of a hill, those guys had it easy compared to being in the desert. I guess they filmed alot on the streets back then, we just happened to run across both of them by accident. For being 11 or so it was all kind of strange to me, I had never seen streets so steep, it is flat where we were from. My mother was not happy when we had to jump on a streetcar, she couldn't believe they didn't stop, it really is a beautiful state, strange but pretty. One day I would like to the the Northern part of the state.

  2. We average mid 90's but with high humidity. I do remember going through the Arizona desert in the summer as a kid, it was so hot you couldn't touch anything metal outside. Looked forward to the hotel pool but then the water was closer to a hot tub temperature, stayed in the room waiting to leave the next day. Got to see them filming the old TV show The Rat Patrol", it was the late 60's so we went on to California. My dad wanted to see some hippies so we went to Haight and Ashbury street for a walk, don't know why he was so interested in hippies, or maby it was the hippie girls ? Had my first Chinese food in Chinatown, my dad thought my mom was trying to kill us with that stuff, this was before there was a chinese restaurants everywhere. Things were different back then.

  3. I'd take that over our 100 with 50% humidity that lasts until 11pm any day. Way I understand is it's a dry heat out there 🔥. 115 I don't know, not at my fighting weight now, when I was strong and 38 106 in FL was pretty bad!

  4. that sounds about right for Kona. It was $25/lb in the early 90's. Lappert's average high [for Tucson] is 102` for this date. it takes 115` for record

  15. D@m= Straight Man! I remember the Rat Patrol. One of me and all my friends favorite shows! Late 60 & early 70s stuff we loved it, Green Hornet too didn't realize how profound Kato was then! Built tank, half-track and jeep models and killed rommel a hundred times over in all the yards around here. Weren't allowed to watch The Green Berets until years later.

  16. No certified dealers within 250 miles of me. My wife and II did travel 50 miles to a Klipsch dealer a few months ago to audition the Forte III. The setup was horrendous and I actually had to instruct the salesman how to better set them up so we could listen. We had to move them from the foyer of the showroom into one of their HT sound rooms. No one in his right mind would drop the cash to buy those speakers the way they were being demoed. There should be some sort of screening process to ensure that dealers take the time to showcase products with some semblance of thought, even if they are not "certified". Shakey

  17. @YK Thom are you trying to hear tv and music from your receiver at the same time or are you trying to just watch a tv and listen to a different source at the same time? If it's the latter, it could possibly be done through the receiver with input assignments. If not, you could always pickup a HDMI splitter so your tv could be used independently from your avr. This splitter takes in 1 signal and outputs it to 2 devices. Monoprice 108204 Mini HDMI Splitter with 3D Support https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008CR10K2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_DY8kBbZ3P5EBB

  18. And here I've put off the yard work all week because of five days of a hundred all over this side of town. NWS for us is over 100 miles away @ GSP airport while the metro area here has been over 1 mil since the 1980 census. I use weatherunderground stations around here and they match our non-mercury thermometer more often than not. It's 10:15 here and not 90 yet the little wave has broke, it's been 90 by 8:30a all week. About to finish off my birthday beans, this year I didn't have to pay for my yearly Kona this time, it was on the porch two weeks ago from my brother! Just <$45/lb is more than twice as much as I normally spend for my fix, but this is very good 3/4 dark with 1/4 med roasted and perfect with a smidgen of dk brown sugar.

  19. Speaking of service altitudes this was in the news today. Well it seems the only people who noticed were the people who filmed it, and they do not seem to be very upset. https://nypost.com/2018/06/19/horny-couple-joins-mile-high-club-in-full-view-of-passengers/ http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2018/06/20/silver-airways-passengers-catch-couple-having-sex-in-seat-behind-them.html

  20. "I see a red door and I want it painted black... No colors anymore I want them to turn black..." JUST a thought...Trust me it's just a THOUGHT but it MIGHT fly... Pray for someone w/more knowledge about veneer than me sees this BUT... IF the bottom of your speaker is good and the same color would it be possible to NEATLY & CAREFULLY surgically remove a strip the exact width for the lower front of the cabinet from the bottom rear? Lil skin graft??? I dunno though... Just thinkin outta the box... Could be sweet and could be a disaster if it splits. OR possibly just get a close match on the stain and stain it? OR just leave it alone and blame the previous owner? HAHAHA!! Beats a strip of purple duck tape!!! 😂 😂 😂 😎

  23. That was funny, I thought they were joking when they said "that's what we want", you were right there you heard them, they were not joking, that's the daughter that got the spud and some Forte's recently. Time passes, it does not feel like it's been that long, over 10 years. My original plan was to build another Spud, or that other similar model that used a bigger driver, can't remember the name, but I never did add another. I know about the out of room problem, no room left here, the living room has the MWM's, 1502 sub in the center plus 6 Forte's 2 different versions, it only works because the back three are hanging from a beam and the front mains sit on the MWM's with the center in front of the 1502. The Cornwall lll's got kicked out of the living room to the bedroom. I am glad my wife is abnormal or this would have never happened.

  25. For wings only the classic buffalo style, at whatever heat level is desired, is acceptable. Otherwise why are you just eating wings? If you want your chicken prepared a certain way then prepare your chicken that way and eat it, don't just limit it to the wings. Of course they have to have bones! Oh yeah, none of this breading stuff on them either. What is the matter with people?

  26. I'm your huckleberry. Mixed feelings about your rant. Yeah it's hard. Hardest thing I have ever done. If it wasnt, there would be more than 11 of us in that link above. At the same time though, it's partially a matter of who wants it bad enough. Most simply arent willing to sacrifice what I have. For example I have seen a dealer have a solid lead from a guy wanting some Heresys on the phone just to tell the customer that he doesnt know what they are and could they provide an item number. In the meantime I'm working multiple 18 hour days per week for a stupid long time trying to make it work, to learn all I can, and to grow my brand. I just dont feel sorry for some of these guys. This isn't the 80's anymore, you dont get rewarded for simply existing.

  29. It was a big deal for me, not gonna lie. It isn't just the speakers, we had to get fancy turntables and nice tube amps plus furniture. One of my amps alone was $3,200. Then there were space considerations as I already had a Jubilee setup which was taking up my only two good corners that K-horns could have used. Just a huge investment in time, money, and effort, and I still need to work on the syndicated content. It wouldn't be for everybody but yeah I felt like it made sense for me.

  32. So U2, as always, did not disappoint. Sonically and visually top notch. The crowd was a bit lame, but D.C. is often a stuffy crowd. On the other hand all the wheel chairs, Amigo riders and cane/walker crowd were out in force whooping it up in Philly. I had to be one of the 100 youngest people there and I'm half a century plus. No joke there were some seriously old people up past their bed times and missing from the nursing homes. Roger Daltrey, his band and the Philly Orchestra killed it. They did the entire Tommy album hardly taking a breath. Roger did not stop to talk to the crowd for the entire performance. It was as if all 4 sides of the LP were stacked up and let loose. After he thanked the orchestra and just him and the band played Who are You and Baba O'Riley and a solo song from his latest album. One of the highlights was an almost local (Delaware) girl, Katie Jacoby, playing the violin solo at the end of Baba O'Riley. Turns out she won her high school battle of the bands playing it at 17 and now at 28 she is playing it in all 12 cities on tour with Roger. Check out the below starting around 43 seconds. Simon Townsend (Pete's Brother) was never on my radar but that guy can play guitar.....and sing. Simon is the bald guitar player on the left, the guy Frank on the right is no slouch either. Very fun show. A few cities left, all with local orchestras. Catch it if you can.

  33. I don't think so, they don't even sting or bite. They are about as big as a silver dollar. The only way I get rid of them is by knocking them out of the air with my racquetball racquet. Usually a backhand.

  35. Shipped them through Team World Wide Freight out of New Jersey. Those guys know what they were doing. They were an integral part in getting this serial number mixe up corrected. I called their main office in New Jersey and had them go out on the floor to verify the serial numbers. On the second screw up they verified they had the wrong serial number. Team World Wide sent a message to the Adorama warehouse tell them the customer was not happy with what they had shipped out and they should return the speaker back for the correct serial number. Adorama then put a few more folks on it and they obtained the correct serial number shipped that one and again I called Team World Wide . They(Tony/EJ) verified the serial number to be correct. We were all excited and they shipped FAST! 1 day from Jersey to Dallas. Once in Dallas they scheduled time , two days later a pallet with both pieces arrived. . If you dont call , no matter what TWW freight will ship the product. What they received from Adorama is out of their hands. Which I understood. But the fact that they sent message to Adorama to explain the issue was pretty good of them. Very customer friendly and professional. Dont get me wrong all the above is B.S. way to run a company... But what you have in Adorama is a company that deals in everything from hair dryers to high end audio equipment. And they do deals all over the world. So they are by no means experts in the customer service department on all the items. They are robots. Considering the sweetheart deal I received, I was able to work around the ineptness. Took 1.5 months , but now the only pain/pleasure being dished out is coming from some finely tuned horned speakers.

  36. Their data doesn't look quite right. The definitive source for music sales in the US is the RIAA. It is free, and you can get alerts. The peak for record sales was about 2000, since then downloads have taken over along with streaming. They track all of it. https://www.riaa.com/u-s-sales-database/ The point on vinyl sales is that it continues to grow (up another 5%) while the CD continues to plummet (down another 10%). Here is the key, there is a direct correlation between the continued vinyl surge, especially during the last 5 or so years and the sales of speakers of the golden age like Klipsch. That is why KGI did joint limited ed. speakers with Capitol Records https://www.klipsch.com/capitol-records-speakers Look at the price point of those products and who they are trying to attract. Look at their powered speakers and which ones offer built in phono preamps. Their first turntable project was with Pro-ject 4 or 5 years ago and they sold out in a week. This is all studied, all tracked and looked at and they make adjustments. Keep buying new vinyl, it 8s fueling the market for new Klipsch Heritage buyers

  44. For surround duties, I don't think timbre matching is quite as important. Don't get me wrong, you'd be better off matching when possible, but surrounds generally handle effects. That being said, hanging floorstanding speakers sounds like a pain, and you may honestly be better off going with the R-14S, since they're designed to be surrounds.

  46. In the post directly after this one, you asked me if the kids should be pushed. Mark, given your common sense and life experiences along with your comments in the above post tells me you know exactly what to do. You push a kid, they push back. I think it is FAR better to engage your students, empower them, encourage them to find what they are good at and to be their best, always. Your role will be as a mentor, a teacher and to provide your technical knowledge and expertise to keep your student healthy through proper mechanics. I was a pretty serious dad while raising my two boys. The oldest was a pretty good pitcher and at the age of 12 he could throw a curve ball no other kid could hit. I told him if he continued to throw curve balls I would take him out of baseball. That's because there is a thing called a growth plate where the two bones in the arm grown towards each other. Throwing too many curve balls can damage that growth plate. I told him WHY I didn't want him to throw curve balls and I had him read the same information I did. He understood and developed his mechanics and threw fast balls. He didn't win every game, but he developed and instead of chasing the major leagues, he chased "next level." That was a good short term and long term strategy. I always engaged him in the decision making process. My son got a lot of attention for being such a good pitcher and he said he might want to be a big league player some day. I told him that 'yes" you can throw curve balls and everybody will say how great you are, but nobody has ever got a major league contract for striking out 12 year-olds. I asked him to become a good athlete and I sent him to pitching camps, I didn't know anything how to throw a baseball. I taught him to think long term and let his body grow. He ended up being a solid 6'2" and he could pitch, ending his career as high school pitcher. He choose to leave baseball to concentrate on college. He was good enough he could have gone on to be a college pitcher, but he made his own decision not to do that. He had a full academic scholarship and wanted to study to become an attorney so that is the path he choose for himself. As a parent I did the right thing by raising him so he would have options. He was athletic, musical and smart. He picked his own path and I could not have been prouder.

  47. I saw and heard this second setup of JC's of 600s, subs, and the rack of driving equipment. It is all in fantastic condition and sounds awesome and as it should. This is the same speakers as JC is using for his main system. Although used, someone cared for these incredibly well. They were all covered. In fact, I think the price is less than half of what it should be for what you get. If I didn't have a house full of Klipsch this rig would have been mine last summer. I have never seen a deal like this anywhere.
