  1. I wrapped a newspaper 'round my head So I looked like I was deep I said some mumbo-jumbo, then I told him he was going to sleep I robbed his rings and pocketwatch And everything else I found I had that sucker hypnotized He couldn't even make a sound I proceeded to tell him his future, then As long as he was hanging around I said the price of meat has just gone up And your old lady has just gone down

  3. I agree with the above. If it made that much of an impact on you..... will you ever really be able to scratch that itch with something less, regardless of the name stamped on the front? We all have choices & compromises & limitations.... I get that. So if you are choosing to let something be between your goal.... if it's something you can overcome well.....then..... If it is something that is insurmountable, well.....then..... I personally drove 12 hours (1-way) to get mine. Point being a 100 mile radius might not be big enough area. What if someone had a pair 150 miles out? If you're buying used, you can find them (at what I feel to be) a reasonable cost. Yeah, a pair for $500 on the west coast isn't going to do you any good so you have to find/strike that balance. That said, I think I sold my pair for around $1,800 and they (like most) had a beautiful walnut pattern on the front. Others sell for more....and others for less. Only you know how bad that itch.....itches..... and what it will take to scratch it. Don't ask any of these guys on this forum though..... they're all freaking crazy nuts....every last one of them. Except of course, for me.

  5. When first being introduced to horns, the following helped me. '"A crude analogy of the direct radiator loudspeaker would be a "baffled" piston on the surface of a lake. It could agitate the waters but it would not be much of a pump. But put a cylinder around the piston, and it becomes capable of lifting the water. This is analogous to the driver unit coupled to a horn. The cone is forced to work at higher pressures with lower velocity. Another analogy is the gear ratio of the automobile which transforms the "low impedance" engine - low torque, high speed - to the "high impedance" drive wheels - high torque, low speed. The direct radiator speaker is a low impedance device - low pressure, high velocity. The gear box is an impedance transformer. The horn acts as a transformer to increase the pressure and reduce the motion of the driving system. Modulation distortion is directly affected by the amplitude of diaphragm motion, and would thus be greatly reduced by horn loading."' Paul W. Klipsch, "Loudspeaker Performance", Wireless World, February 1970

  6. He just got a new rider w/2 cans on the back... He blows them out to the street first w/his 2kMPH back pack blower THEN mows and bags the clippings! I'm like "seriously?" He'd NEVER use a mulching blade! lol Early spring here when there's a wind out of the East (rare) I fire my blower up and get the remains outta my pachysandra/bushes... Inside I just smile as his grumpy a)# wife stands, hands on hips, glaring out the window watching them blow back into their yard. Bwa ha ha! Now that's a patriotic idea for reveille here in the hood!!! 😂 😎 No NIN here! Will Zappa work? 😂 😎

Just about time to open the other french door and piss off the neighbors here in the hood! Too wet to mow this early... Too early for the Stones so maybe some James Taylor for 'em... I'm so thoughtful... NOT! 😂 😎

  10. this ain't no retirement community. it 40 miles away That where we call "town". Tucson is another 20 miles ... Have to behave there. I can only keep the facade so long. The HOAs and I would not get along. I'm a little on the noisy side, too. Make sure my neighbors are hard of hearing ...............for a block radius.

  11. Blaupunkt? Is it tube or solid state? If tube, definitely restore it - i.e., preserve it for what it is. Even if it's solid state, and it works, I'd preserve it.

  18. "They make miniature tubes and miniature loudspeakers, but they have yet to come up with a miniature 32-foot* wavelength." PW Klipsch * A 32-foot wavelength in air has a frequency of 35 Hz at room temperature. Most people don't know that they already listen to loudspeakers that are far too small to faithfully reproduce the low frequencies that they like to listen to on their music tracks and movies. The trend toward "small loudspeakers" in the home started in the early 1950s (Ed Villchur, et al.). It's been downhill ever since--with everyone wanting smaller and smaller loudspeakers, but expecting the same performance as if the size of the bass section of their loudspeakers were actually some reasonable fraction of the size of the low frequencies being reproduced. Those original companies that first started making small loudspeakers have all bitten the dust--but Klipsch survives. I wonder why. Chris

  19. It seems 2018 can't go wrong anymore for us. We replaced our Parasound A21 by a McIntosh MC 275 and a few weeks ago the P 5 was replaced by a C2600.

  21. Ha! David Bowie attracted the landscaping crew to come next door! Gotta love kids on rakes looking at their cells every five minutes. Can't believe she is spending $$$ on a crew to come in and trim. I used to do it for free until she went ballistic on me over oak leaves in her yard last fall when I don't even have an oak tree. Neighbor across the street has 9 on his lot and they're all 40'. They fall, he blows them to the side of his lot facing our places. Great guy! 😂

  24. Did you know that you can dredge your rain gutters with a magnet and pick up hundreds of meteorites? Pro tip: Put the magnet in a plastic bag first, then turn it inside out to keep the meteorites in the bag as you pull the magnet away.

  33. He appreciates my understanding and offers a 50.00 refund Paid 700 for an amp and shipping, the amp sold for less than 1000 new. Shipping was 25.00 I ask myself If I looked at a product for sale and the description was : "For sale 1 amp, Chassis Tweaked will not set level, Surface rust on transformers Otherwise great sounds wonderful etc...etc...etc..." Would I buy it, My answer is "NO" I would not buy it, It is obvious someone did not take care of it and I dont want to deal with there issues. I countered with that information the only saving grace is the amp sounds fine and I can make it work in my headphone / bedroom setup. However I am eternally stuck with it because I dont see anyone wanting it knowing the defects

  36. Welcome to the forum! If there is any way to get Klipschorns, do it. If not, really not, then three Forte IIIs would be great. Two Forte IIIs and one Heresy III would be good, just not as good. Be sure to experiment with toe in of the FL and FR speakers, and be sure to point the Heresy or Forte center right at your ears. I have 5.1 with Klipschorns, and a horn loaded modified Belle Klipsch center, and movies sound great, if anything, better than in the theater. I use Heresy IIs for surround, and they are good enough. P.S., The QUAD SACD version of Dark Side of the Moon sounds great on my 5.1

  38. What am I missing? It was 50 KM above the base, that is the mesosphere, which is where meteors burn up. It was tracked upon entry into the atmosphere, it was smaller than the threshold of detection for an earth altering event. All of THOSE sized bad boys are tracked by NASA. This was too small to worry about, as was the one in Russia a few years ago that blew out the windows of thousands of homes and offices. They are too small to detect until they hit the atmosphere, and at that point they can be detected with special radar, but there is nothing that can be done to react by that time. Those that hit the atmosphere are tracked in real time. We are right smack dab in the middle of a major meteor shower called the Perseids, you have all heard about that in the past. Unfortunately, every once in awhile one hits the ground and it's called a meteorite. The one that his Russia Are you sure you want.to know about this stuff? Join the Meteor Society, yes there is one. It is all out there, if you really want to obsess about it you can watch a live monitor of them. http://www.meteorscan.com/meteor-live.html
